Petra: which is better soy protein powder or whey protein powder?

when i went to GNC, there was a really young girl working and she wasnt sure.. so i looked for the one with the lowest carbs and no sugar and only .5 grams of fat .. so i ended up with the soy

petra65 11-12-2005 07:50 PM

Most people prefer whey protein for lots of reasons. I think it tastes better but also there are reasons you shouldn't eat too much soy. It can apparently hurt your thyroid for one, it also causes infertility in men. If you can take it back you might want to switch. The brand that most people think tastes best is Optimum Nutrition and it has about 1 gram per tablespoon. A lot of people also like one called Designer Protein. I don't know if they have that at GNC but they definately have the Optimum Nutrition (I use this one). Are you becoming a protein power girl?

Louie 11-12-2005 08:46 PM

Curly - congratulations on hitting the 30s .. YAHOOO!

Angel - glad that you had a wonderful time with your GF and we are happy to have you back.

Petra - I hope your days isn't too hectic tomorrow. Glad that you got a chance to get your domestic goddess chores done today :D

Hubby and I just got back from getting groceries and dinner is in the oven. I should do more work on my tax module, but I spent the better part of the day on it, so think I will just kick my heels up and relax for the evening. Tomorrow I will be right back to it.

Hope you all have a great evening and a relaxing Sunday.

iwmonn 11-12-2005 08:55 PM

Petra~ Yayyyy for you in ONEderland!!!!! Another PIC Milestone :) :)

Curley~ Yayyyy for you too!! You've been stuck for so long you deserve to take that later reading! Keep it up GF!

AngelEyes~ It's so nice to see you back! Glad your feeling better too. Hopefully it's out of the way for the winter now ;)

TLB~ Relax tonight... that sounds wonderful. Have a wonderful evening!

*grouphugs* Ya'll have a great weekend.

Valerie Joy 11-12-2005 09:35 PM

Hi everyone,

I've been very bad today. I worked an adoption show and was upset and very hungry afterwards so I stopped for a mc donalds cheeseburger. Even worse for dinner I at 1/2 a 16 inch pizza. 4 big slices. Any idea how many calories in that?

I hate eating when I'm upset. Thats how I got this way in the first place. The day is so gloomy and rainy *blah*

Hope everyone is doing well!

curlylocks 11-13-2005 04:31 AM

well valerie.. just let yesterday be the past and start fresh today!!!
we all hit a lil bump in the road now and then.. just dont give up!!
Do better today.:cheer:

heading back to GNC today to pick up the whey protein.. I will just mix the soy into it to spread it out and not waste it..

petra65 11-13-2005 07:31 AM

Curly-Our GNC will actully let you bring stuff back even after you open it as long as it is within a week I think so you may be able to take it back. Call them and ask.
You didn't answer my protein power question. I'll give you the addy for the bulletin board if you are interested.

Valerie-everyone has days like that. Just don't let it become "oh well, I've blown it now, may as well forget about the whole diet." You just forget about it and move on. Hopefully, those kinds of days get fewer and further between as time goes on.

curlylocks 11-13-2005 07:50 AM

The 5 D's

Yep I'm a "protein power girl" or soon will be when i get my other protein powder! Ive been giving it a try with protein naturally found in food but i am really not much of a meat eater so i think the supplement will be a big help to me.. i found a yahoo group but i am not sure if its the same one u are speaking of .. so yes I would like to have the link..

i found this quote somewhere in my net travels and thought it was sooo true.. so then i had to play with the graphics>> if anyone wants one just right click and save..

curlylocks 11-13-2005 08:25 AM

OMG I am in shock here.. yesterday i bought a pair of size 16 lee jeans .. they have a lil strtch to the denim.. i said i will save em for later.. so this morning i say to myself lemme see just how much too smal they are.. so i try them and OMG.. they fit like a glove!!!!

happy dance!!

Valerie Joy 11-13-2005 03:02 PM

Thanks for the support everyone! Pizza seems to be my downfall. Whenever I was tired or not feeling like cooking we always ordered pizza. I need to figure out a way to NOT order pizza anymore because once it gets here I have no control.

It's ok. Today is a new day and I'm back OP!

Curly congrats on the jeans :cp: Soon I'm going to start buying some new clothes. I'm still wearing such baggy clothes. Pants with elephant legs that NEVER fit right. Its no wonder that no one can see my weight loss yet. Once I get those smaller clothes that FIT everyone will be noticing :)

Have a great day everyone!

curlylocks 11-13-2005 04:35 PM

u can take whole wheat pitas and make pizzas on them, just use ff cheese...

Valerie Joy 11-13-2005 06:24 PM

That sounds good Curly! I had a SB pizza the other day on a wheat crust. It was pretty good and only 350 calories!

Louie 11-13-2005 09:37 PM

am I ever glad that this day is almost over... I have read and read till I can't read no more. there is so much information in this tax book then I am going crossed eyed :dizzy: and the worse part is that I am not done

Another quiet day on the PIC board..

Petra ~ hope your day was too hectic
Valerie ~ good job at picking yourself up and carrying on. I know for me that one day can sometimes end it all, you done good kid ;)
Curly ~ you are having a hot dang of weekend  first the 30s and now your "little" jeans.. we bow to da :queen: of victories !!
Dee ~ how you doin ?!?! Hope you are having yourself a wonderful weekend.

Deerod, L2L, Mom, Turtle, Jennie, Lisa, MoonRay ~ Don't make us come looking for you :drill:

Okay Chiquitas, I am off to feed the belly. Have a wonderful evening and I will see you tomorrow.. same bat time... same bat station.

Ciao !

curlylocks 11-14-2005 07:37 AM

Monday Again!

Well me and chai got up and took a nice walk this morning.. now i am sitting here procrastinating.. instead of getting dressed for work.. Its gonna be a LONG boring day.. as most of the people in my office took off for an extra long weekend..

we might have @ 5 people comming in today.. lol think i will take a book along to read,..

had my protein powder & a serving of oatmeal.. i like to have my biggest meal in the am .. to fuel up for the rest of the day..

tomorrow i have an interview for a job.. but i am also in the process of interviewing for a job with the state.. (i would rather have the job with the state) so im not to excited about the one tomorrow...

ok i guess i better get moving here.. Have a great day pic's! & remember the 5 D's

jennie934 11-14-2005 10:15 AM

hey Ladies,
I had such a busy weekend. Saturday I did a craft fair and sold my clothes, it went well but took up the whole day. Then Sunday was my big move in day. OUt of my sisters house, and into my own. Whohoo, it feels good to be able to unpack and get out of the limbo I've been in for the past 2 months. Its like Christmas, I am unpacking all kinds of stuff I forgot that I had.
I got the kichen unpacked, and our beds set up but that was about all I could do yesterday after the moving. I did take a long soak in the tub. yeah! my own tub!

No movement on the scale for me. What is going on? I will have to figure out a new excersise routine now that I moved from my sisters, I'm not sure if I'll be able to jog in the AM or not. I am teaching kickboxing this week because my teacher is going out of town. I'm a little nervous, I'm going to practice my routine tonight.

Petra and Curley, good jobs on the losses!!! Once I get off of this platue, I'll be right with you.

TEB, how's it giong, sounds like you still have tons of school work. I don't envy to much, I do miss school some times...

Val, sounds like a rough day, just try and learn from what you have done. I try to do that but then I still slip up but luckily, its less frequently than it used to be.

Angel, I hope you feel better soon.

Iwmon, Lisa, Deerod, L2L, Momx3, Turtle everyone else out there have a good one.

Louie 11-14-2005 11:37 AM

Good Morning !!

Just a quick check in from the office cause I had to let you all know that I am down 8.1 pounds this PIC is on :flame:

Ok back to work for me.. I will be back tonight for my daily post

curlylocks 11-14-2005 12:23 PM

:cheer: WOOOOOOOO u go girl!!!!! that is fantastic!!! :cheer:

angel-eyes 11-14-2005 12:41 PM

WOOHOOO.....TLB is on :flame: ...wow GF.... :cheer: FANTASTIC JOB!!!

Curly.....Awesome job on the smaller size of jeans!!! Isn't that the best feeling? I tried on some pants (that I barely wore a few years ago) and they fit too!!! ...sadly though, tapered legs are no longer in!!! haha, goodwill is going to get them.

My weigh in this morning showed a 2 lb loss. I'm so happy, because of the fact I've been sick, not working out and had my GF for 5 days.....WITH APPETIZERS!!! LOL.... In fact, I even told dh that I don't want clothes for my bday, because we'll just have to go buy some more after NewYears!!!

Jennie......Congratulations on your new house!!! Did you get all those contractor problems sorted out? Its a great feeling in the world, to unpack and get rid of ALL THOSE BOXES!!!

Valerie Joy 11-14-2005 02:05 PM

I'm down 2 more pounds!!!

TLB congrats on the 8 pounds that is fantastic!!! :bravo:

Angel Eyes congrats on your 2 pound loss. Thats what I'm down this week also. :carrot:

Today was my weigh in day and I was down two pounds!! I had to strip down naked to get it so I guess the rest of my weigh in's will be done in the nude. I LOVE to change my ticker! One more pound I get another flower :^:

Have a great day everyone!

curlylocks 11-14-2005 02:13 PM

:cheer: way to go valerie!!!! :cheer:

petra65 11-14-2005 06:49 PM

Great losses everyone! Teri-you are on fire!

Jennie-congrats on your house. It's the best feeling coming home to your own house. Unfortunately, mine is kind of old and it seems like something is always breaking and needing to be fixed, lol.

I'm glad my weekend is over. Yesterday wasn't too bad. I got 6 consults, they just turned out to be inconvenient because it involved more driving around than I had wanted. Not too bad today either.

I don't know how to get myself motivated on this exercise thing. I'm practically obsessed with my eating but I just can't seem to get the exercise thing down. I really have to work on that. If anyone has suggestions let me know. I'm normally not a procrastinator but I can really procrastinate when it comes to this. What is up with that?

angel-eyes 11-14-2005 06:59 PM

Hi Petra. I can also put off excercising, heck....I can find anything to do RATHER than excercise. I don't really give myself the option of backing out of it. In the morning, I get dressed in my workout gear and then drive to the bus stop (4 houses away) and then when ds is safely on the bus.....drive to the gym. I figure, since I already am dressed and am in the car?, then why not. Can you set aside a chunk of time on a regular basis? Maybe change into your workout clothes after your last consult? Meet up with a friend/buddy at a reg. time? Or what about, marking in time like an appt. on your calendar? You've done sooo well, 42 lbs lost to stop now!!!! Hang in there!!!

petra65 11-14-2005 07:54 PM

Angel-at the end of my day I'm anxious to get home to my doggies who need to be fed and let out. That's the problem. Sometimes they haven't been out for 7 or 8 hours and putting them off another hour isn't fair. I'm not giving up. I'm completely obsessed with my eating plan--that's the odd thing. I've got that down pat! I think the problem is that exercise isn't making a huge impact on the scale so I'm sort of feeling like it is "optional" and I need to get past that.

curlylocks 11-14-2005 08:25 PM

how about walking petra? since u have to take the boys out anyways.. do a walk in the am and one in the pm?

Louie 11-14-2005 10:37 PM

Hi De Ho Partners ! Looks like I amongst a bunch of losers today :D

Thanks so much for all the congrats. I really stuck to my plan this week and it obviously paid off. So, now I just need to stick with it and I will be making my xmas goal in no time :carrot:

Petra ~ sorry I can't be of much help to you in the exercise department. That is one thing that I just don't have time for right now.

Angel ~ 2 lbs, well done :cp: Considering all your "obstacles" the past few weeks, ya done good !

Valerie ~ another loser..yahoo :cp: That :jeno: didn't get ya afterall ;)

Jennie ~ good to see you ! Congrats on the new house, I am sure it will be good to get back to your own routine and those lbs will fall off :goodscale

Curly ~ good job at getting out for a walk. Was your day at work as boring as you thought it was going to be ?!!? :dz: Good luck with the interview, keep us posted on the state job.

Dee ~ hope you had a good west coast day !

Well I better scoot and hit the books for a few hours before bed. Take care all and keep on keeping on  <--- love this new smilie

curlylocks 11-15-2005 06:54 AM

its official_ ive lost my mind...

Ok here's a lil story u guys will enjoy... (tho i really shouldnt admit to this) yesterday after work I was in a hurry came home to change into my workout clothes...

I am heading out the back door of my house.. and i am thinking ok lock the door .. instead of taking the door key and locking the door... I am pushing the lock button on the .. keyless entry for my car.... roflmao

just so u know it doesnt work on house doors ... i am thinking ok i have really lost it now!!

petra65 11-15-2005 08:52 AM

I did get to the gym this morning. Today is my nursing home day so I have so leeway about what time I get there. Did my weights and 30 minutes on the treadmill.

I started reading Slow Burn last night which is that really intense work out you only have to do once a week. I'm thinking maybe I can commit to that. And then do the yoga a couple times a week.

Actually I don't have to take the boys out. I have a yard and an invisible fence. I do try to take them out several times a week though for at least a short walk--good for all of us. When I used to live in a townhouse, I did have to walk the dog but now I don't.

jennie934 11-15-2005 09:17 AM

Hey ladies just a quick checkin, I have a ;meeting in a few minutes.
:bravo: to all the loseres. I'll be with you next week.
I'm trying really hard to watch my food this week. I have been doing so much unpacking and setting up, I havn't had much time to work out so I have to be diligent with the intake since there isn't much out take ;)

Jennie

curlylocks 11-15-2005 01:10 PM

lol try the protein powder u will have a lot of "out Take" lmao

Valerie Joy 11-15-2005 04:11 PM

Hi PIC's! I weighed another pound down today. So I'm at 235. I want my flower but it's not my official weigh in day :)

Gloomy and rainy here in chicago. I have a tutoring apointment this afternoon.

I did WATP 2 mile today! I love this workout.

Hope everyone is doing well. :)

Keep up the great work :carrot:

curlylocks 11-15-2005 04:44 PM

interview went well... and this job pays 5.00 more per hr then i am making now... the lady who would be my boss seems very nice.. so guess i wont know anything for a few days...

angel-eyes 11-15-2005 04:59 PM

ohhh, that is great news Curly!!! I'm crossing fingers and toes for you :crossed:

Today has been a bit doom and gloom with all the rain we've had but I still managed to get to the gym to workout. The kickboxing teacher was trying to convince me to take her class and was alittle put out when I said, not today. Why did she make me feel bad? I still worked out but could feel her 'eyeing' me. geesh!! Well its official.....ds is now a wolf in cubscouts!!! I went and sewed the badges on his new shirt and we have his first pack meeting tonight. He's going to be sooo excited!!! Good thing I've got dinner in the crockpot as it will be tight what with homework and all. tc

petra65 11-15-2005 08:17 PM

Good luck Curly-hope things work out for you. I haven't noticed that about protein powder.

Valerie-you are on a roll. Keep up the good work.

I had a terrible day at work. I'm almost tempted to drink. And I've already had 39 grams of carbs so I can't figure out what to eat. I"m in a terrible predicament but at least I got my exercise in for theday.

iwmonn 11-15-2005 08:58 PM

hey PIC's,

I've been lurking, watching, rooting ya all on.... but I just haven't been able to post. I'm not sure what's up.... I'm thinkin maybe hormones lol... seriously tho, really. TOM visited a couple weeks ago ( about 2 weeks early) and now is when my schedule says I should be hostessing, so I'm thinkin my body is just messin' with me. Anyways, I've been kinda down the last week or so, and not following any good food guidelines, or doing much of any exercise. I don't wanna go to the dr office to weigh myself..... I think I'm still maintaining (according to my very irregular home scale). Today is the day all that changes tho... we went to san francisco and I had a maple bar for breakfast then for lunch 3 pancakes and eggs and sausage. Tonite we're having bratwurst and sauerkraut and tomorrow is back on my plan! We're going to Colorado for Lee's dad's 90th birthday at New Years and I really want to be looking good since I have not met anyone in his family cept one brother lol.... So now there's new external motivation!

Back to important stuff now.... you guys are all doing so great... Congratulations to everyone of you losers!!!!! And good luck to all of us who are teetering. WE CAN do anything!!!!!!

Imma check back after dinner and TBL... :grouphug:

curlylocks 11-15-2005 09:08 PM

lol i couldnt figure out what i wanted for dinner last nite and ended up having sauerkraut.. filled me up tho!

Petra: I think i may be a wee bit lactose intolerant.. not real bad but just a tad today was better..

just watched the biggest loser... watching dr jeff go home and seeing his famly when they saw him ... wahhhhh tears streaming down my face..

lol had to laff when i saw valerie's post... now she has flower addiction hehehe

iwmonn 11-15-2005 09:58 PM

noooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not dr jeff :( It's not on here for another hour. I can't say anything to Lee cuz if he knows I know what's gonna happen, we'll have to watch Dr Phil instead lol.

btw.. I can't stand sauerkraut so I didn't really fill up on it lol.... i had lots of veggies instead. Wrong kind (Peas, corn, carrots) but better than the potatoes I made for dh (I'm hoping- can ya give me a thumbs up or down on that curley or petra? hehehehe) All I see when I look at potatoes now is sugar

bbl

curlylocks 11-15-2005 10:02 PM

im sorry i didnt even think about the time difference...

maybe u could make a bet with ur husband? about who is getting voted off?

iwmonn 11-15-2005 10:10 PM

hahah you came back while I was editing curley lol... you have a good idea there.... what do you think I should bet him?

Louie 11-15-2005 10:32 PM

Hey Partners ~ sorry I don't have time to post tonight...tax questions to do :p but I wanted to leave you with this for the day  Take Care !!

What you make it
You can speculate and guess and theorize and envision, and all those things have their place. Yet you will not know for sure what you can and cannot do until you step forward and make the effort. There are many things that might go wrong, and many obstacles you likely did not anticipate. Yet you must not allow the possibility of those problems to stop you before you even get started. When something comes up that you didn't plan for, you can learn from it and make adjustments. When a difficult challenge arises, that challenge brings with it the opportunity for even greater value when you choose to persevere. Everything that is easy and guaranteed to succeed has already been done. Real accomplishment comes from doing the things that no one else thinks you can do. Lift your eyes up and see the objective at the end of the path. Then lift your feet up, one after the other, and take the first few steps along that path. Accomplishment is not what is reasonable or practical or certain or without controversy. Accomplishment is precisely what you decide to make it.

-- Ralph Marston

iwmonn 11-16-2005 12:43 AM

awwwwww Dr. Jeff *sniffle*... we both cried here too. Lee said he felt Jeff was going to go tonight too, especially when he was on the block with andrea.... since he is the bigger threat.... I don't know. I really get encouraged by the show, but the biggest loser gets voted off cuz they are the threat... should be some other way huh?

Everyone have a great day and I'll be in for my daily dose of everything I get from all my PIC's!!!
It's a new day :) :grouphug:
