That graphic is cute Dee! Did you make it? I like your avator also :) :carrot:

iwmonn 12-14-2005 04:22 PM

lol thanks val. No I didn't make it. I def don't have the patience to do something like that. I found it years ago somewhere and I just 'tweaked' it for the birthday girl ;)

So today is a great day.

OK so it was a great day till just this minute when I freakin' burned my puffs!! :tantrum: 2 full trays of them. I will NEVER get used to gas cooking. Sooooo... maybe I'll just start over and make them at work in the next couple days :)

Anyways, it's gorgeous out, tho ya know maybe a little snow would make it feel more like Christmastime.... I guess i hafta get dressed here pretty soon lol. I love lounging all day in my jammies on my "Sunday" hehehee... and YUMMMMM I've been enjoying that eggnog today!!! TTYL :grouphug:

curlylocks 12-14-2005 07:40 PM

the egg nog receipe sounds yummy.. i typed it up and made copies to take to my workout place and everyone wanted a copy! lol

well i have a new receipe>>> I went to the store after working out and bought all the stuff to make it... then by the time i stopped by my mom's and let her dog out for a potty break it was 6:40 pm...

my 21 day challenge is to monitor every morsel of food that goes in and NOT TO EAT AFTER 7 pm..

so i will have to wait until tomorrow to give it a try:

South Beach Taco Bake

1 lb ground beef (lean)
1 pkg taco seasoning... low sodium
1 Jar Pace salsa ( it is sugar free)
2-3 cups fat free cheddar cheese
3 whole wheat tortilla shells

Brown meat and drain... add taco seasoning and mix well
add salsa and mix again

spray the bottom of a 9" pie plate with cooking spray and lay 1 shell in it
top with 1/2 cup cheese & 1/2 cup meat

top with 1/2 cup cheese and another shell

top this with another 1/2 cup of cheese and the rest of the meat

add another 1/2 cup cheese and the last shell

top with the last 1/2 cup of cheese and cover with foil

bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes

uncover and bake for 5 more minutes

let sit then slice.. serve with fat free sour cream

petra65 12-14-2005 09:20 PM

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. Very long day. Had my second personal training session at the gym and my limbs felt like jelly when I left which is how I think they were supposed to feel. Gotten a bunch of phone calls tonight and a few cards in the mail today--the usual stuff. Time to get to bed. We're expecting more snow tomorrow--won't that be fun!! NOT!

curlylocks 12-14-2005 10:59 PM

hmm very interesting>>> think u have mentioned this name b4 petra... "Schwarzbein Principle" she says when u are entering menopause, your body fights to hold onto the fat for the estrogen... hmmm

petra65 12-15-2005 07:21 AM

Are you reading the Schwarzbein Principle? She is a smart lady although I don't agree with all of her theories. However, I think she is right about menopause. Most women find it very difficult to lose weight after menopause.

Dee, as I was whipping up one of my smoothies this morning, I was thinking I might be able to come up with an eggnog one for the holiday. They make french vanilla protein powder but I'm not sure I would use enough of it to justify buying a whole container of it so I may try it with plain vanilla. I'm also not crazy about the idea of wasting a bunch of yogurt while I figure it out but I'll let you know.

curlylocks 12-15-2005 07:26 AM

:cheer: down 1 lb!!!

angel-eyes 12-15-2005 07:50 AM

:cheer: go curly go :cheer: That is awesome and with TOM!!!

curlylocks 12-15-2005 08:05 AM

lol i am gaining and losing the same 2 lbs..

think i better get my rear outside and get back to that 3 mile walk everyday! maybe the circuit training isnt enuff..

Valerie Joy 12-15-2005 01:11 PM

Congrats on the loss curly! Bet it felt great to move that ticker!! I'm going to do WATP 3 mile now. I've been turning down the volume and listening to my own music. All that chit chat gets on my nerves!

Have a great day everyone!

curlylocks 12-15-2005 01:48 PM

i have billy blanks tai bo but have yet to egt it into the dvd player lol not doing me much good on the coffee table eh?

Valerie Joy 12-15-2005 03:17 PM

I want to try tae bo curley Which one do you have? They have a couple of his DVD's on netflix. I've walked 18 miles so far this month on WATP and I'm getting slightly bored of it. I was thinking maybe with tae bo I might be able to get my husband into it. :ginger:

curlylocks 12-15-2005 04:40 PM

i got mine off ebay for like 5 bucks lol

petra65 12-15-2005 07:18 PM

Some people on the Protein Power board are really into the Billy Blanks Boot Camp DVD.

Congrats on your pound Curly. I bet that felt good.

We are having an ice storm tonight. I have a patient at 8:30 tomorrow morning and she said she would be there so I'm going to have to get up at 5 or something to make sure I can get there on time.

petra65 12-15-2005 07:56 PM

Curly-I don't know if you ever visited the protein power board at the link I gave you but I was just re-browsing over there and there are a couple threads that might interest you. One is on weight loss stalls and another is on weight loss and menopause.

curlylocks 12-15-2005 08:21 PM

o cool ty petra i will check it out

iwmonn 12-15-2005 09:58 PM

Hi PIC's,

Well.... I was up 1.8lb last night :( but considering I was SO off my program last week I'm not surprised. (Cost me a quarter in the jar even lol.) So today I've been tracking my water and every point I stuff into my face. I'll do my watp video tonight and ya know what?? I'm gonna feel much better for it all!!!!!

Petra~ I'm sure vanilla will work. I didn't have french vanilla pudding and just used regular SF vanilla. It was awesome! (I would cut back a little on the Splenda tho). How are your limbs feeling today, after your workout last night? :dizzy: You drive safe. yukkkkk ice!!!

Curly~ YAYYYYYY for your pound! And good luck. I hope you can figure out how to tweak yourself past those 2 boomarangin' lbs! BTW, did you do your taco bake yet? It sounds yummmmy too. Kinda like a mexican pizza at Taco Bell. :jeno:

AngelEyes~ Hey GF!! Howyadoin'?

Val~ I know what you mean about the talking on the video's. It is annoying sometimes. What music are you listening to when your walking now? I'd like to try the Tai Bo too, but these friggin' hips. I'm afraid they'll hurt. It'd be cool to get Bing into it too. Is he getting any "benifits" from your whole program? Lee lost like 13 lbs since I've started lol.

Lisa, MOM, TLB, Turtle, and allllll you other PIC's old and new... Ollie Ollie In Come Freeeeeeeeee! We miss you all. :tree: :candy: :tree:

Everyone have a wonderful day and I'll ttys :grouphug:

Valerie Joy 12-15-2005 10:29 PM

Dee sorry to hear about the weight gain. Just be good next week! You know you can do it! I created a playlist on my ipod to do with the WATP. All upbeat fast songs! It matches up fairly well.

What Tae bo is the easiest. Or the best to start with. I put Tae bo Live on my netflix list.

Keep up the good work everyone!

iwmonn 12-16-2005 12:14 AM

Hey again,

So I found another great site for nutrition facts. www nutritiondata .com. Lots of great info and a really great feature is it has a Firefox Plugin to add the search engine to your search bar. Just thought I'd share another find ;) y'all

petra65 12-16-2005 07:44 AM

Okay Dee, I tried to make an Eggnog smoothie this morning based on your recipe. It was fair. It probably needs some tweeking but this is what I used. 1 cup plain yogurt, 1/2 cup carb countdown milk, 3 tbsp vanilla whey protein powder, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, 1 tbsp splenda, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg. I would have added imitation rum extract too but I didn't have any. I'm wondering if I should just skip the yogurt and try to make it with the carb countdown and the whey protein. Wouldn't that be interesting to serve to guests, LOL?

iwmonn 12-16-2005 09:53 AM

hmmmmmm would definately be interesting lol. Use the real rum and they probably wouldn't even notice hehehehe.
Just out of curiosity, what is it the pudding has that you are avoiding? Cuz I really think you would need it for thickening. I really wanna know how the carb countdown works, altho at the store that carrys it here only carrys chocolate now.

Have a great day everyone!!! :grouphug:

Valerie Joy 12-16-2005 12:59 PM

Hi PIC's!

I just got back from curves. I did the circuit 3 times and worked up a good sweat! I sold another hula hoop today and I have a survey for SBD at 4 so I'm keeping busy!

I hope everyone has a good day!

Temptations

Arggghhhhh  There are temptations  everywhere!

We had four Christmas parties to go to this week. The last one is tonight. I actually did fairly well, but I am sure that I won't lose any weight again.

Being post menopausal *and* post sixty!:p just adds to the challenge, but I will get there eventually.

It looks like you all are hanging in there and staying OP over the holidays. Good for you!:carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

zoey

iwmonn 12-16-2005 09:20 PM

Gooood evening PIC's!!

Not a very busy board today. I hope you EastCoasters didn't get caught in the nasty storm I'm hearing about.

Val~ You are doing so well!!! I'm wishing I had your zeal. I don't know why I can't find that motivation. I'm trying to talk Lee into seeing the valid reasons for a gym membership, but he's seen me pass on WATP for days at a time. We just don't have the extra $$$ these days, what with the new car payment, and the impending trip to Denver... So I'll keep Beatin' It On Down the Line ;). I guess I just really wanna say GF, that your posts inspire me. ((((((Val)))))) 'til We Meet Again!!!!!

Zoey~ It's good to see you back :) These Holiday gatherings can sure be tough. We have 2 to go to tomorrow night. I have to make my Salmon Puffs tonight and am still going to stick to my challenge of only having 3 TOTAL! For me, it's still the everyday that is hard for me. The special occasions have (so far) been fairly easy to get through.

Good Luck to Everyone!!!! http://www.quiknet.com/dks/!pics/AN1288.gif

Valerie Joy 12-16-2005 09:36 PM

Evening PIC's!

I went to the South beach diet survey today and they had us eat linguine with chicken in alfredo sauce. I ate the whole thing. I figure how many calories can it be if it's a frozen diet meal. It threw me off plan though and now I'm hungry with no calories left!

I have to say it was good to eat pasta again. It was whole wheat pasta so I guess thats lower glycemic?

Dee how sweet of you to say  It's REALLY easy for me to go to curves. One opened a block away from me and I took it as a sign!

Zoey I hear you about the temptations! Stay strong!

Have a great night everyone! :carrot:

curlylocks 12-17-2005 03:43 PM

what are all the pics up to today?

angel-eyes 12-17-2005 04:16 PM

Hi girls....Nothing much up today. I had my nose in a really good book today and I finished it. It was the 5th book in a series,....by Dianna Galbadon. Dh is away working and the boys are busy being boys!!!...ARGH!!! Boy scouts dropped off the chocolate covered toffee popcorn today....GIVE ME STRENGTH!!! mmm that is sooo good but they are xmas gifts!! Food is OP today but sadly no workout. I still did 5 workouts this week, so thats alllll good.

Valerie Joy 12-17-2005 08:13 PM

macaroni grill

Hi PIC's

I'm in a foul mood. I look forward all week to my cheat meal and it was ruined. My husband wanted to go to macaronii grill so I went to their website, checked the calories and planed on having the plain salmon with asparagus.

When the food came I was eating and noticed it was a bit cold so I looked and the fish was raw in the center. I was so grossed out. I sent it back and when the new piece of fish came it was almost burned on the outside but still raw in the center. I was so fustrated I ended up not eating and got a subway wrap on the way home.

I really look forward to my cheat meal and now I feel so depressed that I didn't get to have anything good tonight :(

petra65 12-18-2005 07:42 AM

Hi everyone. Our storm turned out to be a big nothing. I am working on my Christmas nuts this weekend and have also been writing a weight loss curriculum for work. I've been inspired this weekend and even though Ihave a lot of other stuff do, I better write while the spirit is moving me. My first session has what I call "the five commandments of dieting" LOL. It's catchy so hopefully people will remember them.

Val-I have a question for you. I'm going to do a review of diet plans as part of my curriculum and am classifying diets as either low carb, low glycemic, low fat, or other. To be classified as low carb by me it has to contain less than 60 grams of carbs/day. I'm not sure if I should put The Zone in the low glycemic or the other category. What do you think?

angel-eyes 12-18-2005 12:37 PM

oh oh oh....Petra, are you teaching a course in diet 101 ? Sign me up!!! That sounds fantastic. A while ago I was looking through some cookbooks, and believe it or not.....some recipies were touting that they were low carb and they had over 100 carbs for the one meal!!! definitely a no no...:nono:

Valerie.....Sorry to hear about your dissappointing meal. Doesn't that just suck? Hopefully next weeks 'cheat day' will be so much better!!

Curly....How you doing? You've been very quiet lately.

Iwmonn....How was the party? salmon puffs? Hope you survived both parties.

Zoey......Glad to hear you're hanging in there!! 4 parties in 1 week? You are the ultimate party girl. ;)

Last night I took the boys to a buffet restaurant since dh was away. I was amazed at how high many of the customers were piling their plates!!! And although some of them were with salad....you can bet that they were'nt low calorie and or healthy!!! I did good with the main course, simple fresh green salad with low cal ranch, steamed green beans/steamed carrots/roast chicken breast without skin, and then since I ate really well,.....I had a pc of carrot cake and a small serving of icecream. Not too bad considering what was available. The cake put me over for the day by 65 calories, so I'm okay with that and back to a good OP day. Later on today after church, we've got a gingerbread decorating party to go to. I've been told to bring some hor'deuve cocktail foods, so who know's what we'll be eating. I'll have something to eat before I go just in case. Talk about strategic planning!!!

Valerie Joy 12-19-2005 01:00 AM

Petra I would describe the zone as being a low glycemic, low calorie meal.

Angel eyes I haven't tried a buffet yet. I don't know if I could trust myself at one! Speaking of eating out When I looked up the calories for Macaroni grill I was shocked. All the meals were well over 1000 calories. Even the spagetti and meatballs was 2400 calories! Add a 800 calorie soup, some bread and possibly a dessert and I can't believe how many calories it would be. I use to eat out all the time and it's no wonder I gained so much weight.

I hope everyone is having a good day! I've been back on plan today :)

curlylocks 12-19-2005 08:06 AM

UGH! monday again... well at least i only have to work a 1/2 day today Then i have to take my mom to the dr she's having trouble with her knee...

then another 1/2 day on wednesday!! we have our christmas lunch that day... i figure if i leave early i wont be tempted by all the goodies! and i can go workout early!

have a great day everyone!

Valerie Joy 12-19-2005 02:00 PM

Weekly Weigh in!

Hi PIC's!

I had my weekly weigh in today and I was down 2 more pounds! I also got a new flower! :carrot: I'm so glad because I've been feeling discouraged this last week for some reason.

I saw the woman who signed me up at curves today after many months. She was my inspiration when starting because she was about my size when she started and lost 35 inches. When I saw her today she had gained back 25 pounds. I felt so bad about it. I can't imagine going through all this work to lose weight only to gain it back. It scares me that the same thing might happen to me. I'm so thankful that I have a good support system here!

angel-eyes 12-19-2005 04:11 PM

YEAH!!! Valerie got another flower!!! :carrot: I know what you mean about serving sizes. A good tip is to order your main course but tell the waitress to box up half of what you ordered. I find most restaurant meals very large, no wonder that guy did the movie on SUPER SIZE ME. 2400 calories for spaghetti? mama mia!!!Thats more than enough for a full day.

I took ds to Burger king for lunch today and really enjoyed their grilled chicken salad. Had to read the lite dressing pak though....almost half calories/fat was from it. 120 calories for salad dressing!!! I used about 1/3 of the pack.

I should have weighed in this morning, but the darn scale kept giving me about 5 different readings all varying from -.5to+3.5 pounds. ITS DAYS ARE NUMBERED!!! So I'm choosing tommorow as my weigh in. Can't see that it makes any sense just to pick a number when it was going CRAZY each time I stepped on it !!!

petra65 12-20-2005 07:29 AM

Congrats Valerie. Maybe missing your cheat meal had a pay off. I have a lot of anxiety about how difficult maintenance will be because of all the people I have seen like that and even my own personal experience. I lost 50 lbs at weight watchers and gained 30 of it back. That's why I was reading all those articles on the National Weight Control Registry. If there is anything I can learn now to help me, I want to get myself on the right track so I'm not doing this again in a few years. I'm determined this is going to be the last time. I just started on book on maintenance the other night called Thin for Life. I'm still on the first chapter. I've also read the Eades maintenance book which is pretty good.

Angel-good for you at the BK. I haven't been to a fast food restaurant in nearly a year. I don't trust myself to even walk into one. I think there are many ways in which I am blessed not having children or a husband on this journey. I don't have to worry about what anyone else is going to eat.

curlylocks 12-20-2005 08:11 AM

Im here... still stuck... But i have been monitoring my calories faithfully for the past 2 weeks my average is @ 1280... so ... the only thing missing from my program are the 3 mile walks i did each day in the summer.... I guess the circuit/resistance training just isnt enuff....... BRRRRR

its too dang cold to walk at nite! & too cold in the am but i guess i am just gonna have to bundle up and "Get R' Done!"

angel-eyes 12-20-2005 09:29 AM

GRRRRR.....you and me both Curly!! I am stuck also. My calories have ranged from 1250 to 1600 with a couple of 1800 (sim to the wendie plan) but my excercise has been really good. I have never never been able to run on the treadmill and now I'm doing 3 miles. SO THATS SOMETHING!!! :carrot: The only thing I can say is that I haven't been this weight for a LONG TIME and my body wants to hold on to it!!! Never mind though.... I feel great, clothes are fitting so much better and I've even discovered new 'old' clothes buried deep in my closet....I've given away to charity, larger clothes but I can feel a sense of frustration wanting that number on the scale to move. I know it will, but still ?:?: Okay, move on......just having my coffee :coffee: and then heading to the gym. Everyone stay warm and on OP.;)

curlylocks 12-20-2005 09:54 AM

yep i think at this weight my body is waiting to see if it gets to go back up or i am gonna keep at it... if that mankes any sense.. i guess like a set point.. and when i get past this "gate" it will continue to drop??? crossing fingers.. either way with 50 lbs gone... my health has to have improved 100%...
so...

Valerie Joy 12-20-2005 01:08 PM

Curly & Angel Eyes keep up the good work. It sounds like you're doing everything right! Eventually those scales are going to start moving again!

Petra I don't think you're going to have a problem with maintaince because you're preparing yoursef for it. I think to many people think their diet is over and go back to their old ways. But you're to smart for that!

I hope everyone is having a great day. I'm going to do my WATP DVD now .:wreath:

curlylocks 12-20-2005 01:18 PM

O geez i just realized this will b the first time i have lost nothing!!!! on my challenge :(
