One thing, that doesnt help is the change in seasons.. its really hard to make yourself get out and walk or run when its too dang cold.. tho i can remember when i took this journey before I walked no matter how cold it was outside..

Last night i snuck and and walked without chai :) but it was in the 50's..

as far as the Jillian program.. when i started, that was when i ended up with bronchitis.. so that went down the pipes.. but I am still happier with my own program.. walking and my circuit/resistance training at ladies workout express..

I guess my program would be called "Protein Beach" its a combination of south beach and some ideas from protein power.. I guess its mainly south beach.. but i have added the protein powder.. and i havent given up my old fashioned oatmeal.. tho i do rotate my breakfast with boiled eggs & the whole wheat waffles...

i got really egged out for a while.. and i figure i am better off having the oatmeal then skipping breakfast all together...and the oatmeal really fills me up... so i am not picking at snacks..

But i also can see where i have slacked a bit myself as far as my exercise, i was doing my workout and walking 3-5 miles per day...

I still think its hard to believe that they (biggest loser) could possibly lose that much weight in 6 months..

Valerie Joy 11-30-2005 06:08 PM

Hi everyone! I went to curves today and found a SBD book on the loaning shelves! So I brought it home. I find that it's very similar to the zone and think I could probably interchange the recipies.

It's been cold here again today. I find that I really get more hungry when I'm out in the cold? Anyone else have this problem?

Good job everyone! Hang in there!

Dee good luck at WW! I know you're going to find something that works for you!

~~Sunshine~~ 11-30-2005 06:32 PM

Hello everyone!!

Wanted to let ya know I have posted my before and after pics in success stories if any one wants to see them!

jennie934 11-30-2005 06:43 PM

Hey Everyone, so good to see people back, not that I'm a constant poster but you know what I mean. I didn't get to see the biggest loser do you think it will get played again? I wanted to tape it but when I moved I got rid of all of my video tapes.
Hi sunshine I'm gonna check out the pics. I took some of my self, not quite before but I guess half way and then I'lltake some again once i"m at goal.

Lisa, good to see you back and posting. I cna't believe the leader said that to you. I would have reported her to some one the WW police or something. Keep going girl you can do it!

Curly, I bought some L-carnatine, doyou still take it? it kind of made me feel like I had a bit to much coffee do that happen to you?

TEB, have funin the white stuff! I like it when it first falls but I hate it when it sticks around for so long.

Petra, Iwonnmon, val, and anyone I'm missing, have a good evening I'll drop back in soon. Its hard since i can't surf the net at work ;(

curlylocks 11-30-2005 07:48 PM

i was taking it but ran out @ week ago,, no i dont get the jitters from it.. petra takes it also, but shes never said she had any probs with it..

petra65 11-30-2005 09:08 PM

Jennie-what kind do you take? I haven't had the jitters from mine either. At the moment I'm using a powder I can mix in liquids. I put it in my yogurt/protein smoothies.

I went to power yoga again tonight. It was a great class. I"m glad I went. Good to see you posting again Lisa.

Dee-Is your husband refusing to give up certain foods even if that is what you need to do to lose weight? One of the things Dr. Phil recommended in his book was that if someone in the house HAD to have food that was not on your program, that you put it in a separate cupboard or put it out of your reach (like you would have to get a step stool to get it). Maybe that is something that would work for you guys? I'm fortunate that I don't have this problem--I don't eat dogfood.

curlylocks 11-30-2005 10:14 PM

:) lol i have the opposite problem at my house...a dog who doesnt want to eat dogfood!

jennie934 12-01-2005 08:43 AM

hey gals,
I picked up the l-carnitine at target so its their brand, it is 500. I also had a crazy day and might have just been hyper. I took some again this morning so I'll see if it happens. do you take it in the am?

curlylocks 12-01-2005 09:40 AM

i took 500 mg in the am and 500 in the pm.. i found mine at walmart for 10$ it can be a bit pricey

angel-eyes 12-01-2005 12:00 PM

Hi girls....

Curly.....What is the purpose behind taking L-Carnitine? ...I can't remember. I don't think that its a stimulant. Funny you mention about your dog, not wanting to eat dogfood. Dh always leaves on the floor by the couch....various munchies most of which are wrapped candies (ie starburst, jolly rancher) He finds this helpful to curb some of the smoking craves.....Anyway, no sooner than he opens a big bag and has a few, he then goes to bed and leaves them on the floor. Mindy our dog, always finds them and polishes off the entire bag WRAPPERS AND ALL !!!! We were really worried one year as dh got a huge chocolate bar and she found it....ate the gold wrapper and all. Chocolate is supposed to be poisonous, but nothing happened. We all thought she would do little wrapped gold packages of poo in the back yard....

Petra.....good job on the power yoga class.

Hi Valerie. Good job on reading up on the new book and working out.

Jennie.....How are you doing? How are the workouts? Keep at it GF!!

Sunshine.....Nice to see you again. Your pics are fantastic!!! You look great, I love that coral colour on you !!!

Iwmonn.....So? How did your first WW meeting go? Forget about the icecream....its in the past. What happens is now....journal, journal journal!!!

Louie 12-01-2005 01:57 PM

Hello Partners !

Just wanted to quickly drop in and say hello

Studying is going pretty well..only 2 more days to the big exam :dizzy:

However, I have somehow managed to gain a couple of pounds this week. I have not eaten anything unusual, so the only thing that I can put it down to is that I have not been eating as regularly as I had been for the past few weeks. Goes to show that eating too little is just as bad as eating too much :?: Oh well, I will get it back next week when I get back to regularly scheduled programming ;)

Well I best get back to it. Hope you all have a wonderful day

Valerie Joy 12-01-2005 03:24 PM

Hi PIC's!

I woke up to see a white yard this morning! I can't believe it's winter already. I did my 3 mile WATP today.

I skimed through the SBD book yesterday. I saw that they recommend drinking some metameucal (sp) a bit before eating. Does anyone here do that? One thing I was not real clear about is how do you know how much to eat on SB? Do you count calories?

SB from what I could see is very similar to the zone. It focuses on low glycymic carbs and healthy fats. I think I could probably use recipies from either book.

Angel eyes.. my dog once at a whole box of chocolates and our vet told us to give her hydrodgen peroxide with a turkey baster to make her throw up. That was not fun.

Dee... My husband has not given up all the food I can't eat. Like rice. I still make some rice for him for dinner but I don't eat it. It just takes some determination. Its hard to have the food you love around and not eat it. But once you get in the habit of it it's easier!

angel-eyes 12-01-2005 04:04 PM

ewwww...Valerie, that is so gross!!! I'm glad your dog was okay though. I have given up eating white rice and potatoes. Not hard to do actually. If I really really want some, I give myself a tablespoon but can't say that I love them that much to miss them. Dh is a HUGE mashed potatoe kinda a guy. I would rather have more veggies anyway. I find it a rip off when we used to go to McDonalds'.....with the happy meals? both my boys never used to eat the french fries. They only wanted the burger and toy!!! hehe...about that white stuff. It must have been nice to see all pure white though eh? after awhile it get old REAL FAST!!! Back home, we'd have winter/snow for 5 months. Can't say that I miss it :D

curlylocks 12-01-2005 04:32 PM

shhhhhhh that is my fav fast food junk>>> cheeseburger happy meal!! maybe i will have one when i hit onederland! i dont like the fries either

petra65 12-01-2005 07:27 PM

L-carnitine is supposed to help you burn fat more efficiently for whoever asked. I usually take mine in the morning but not always.

Curly-did I hear you say you were going to reward yourself with junk food when you get to one-derland?

Val-you hit on my issue with Southbeach-no structure. I think the forum here is very good though and if you were actually interested in doing the diet they could probably give you some advice about portions.

curlylocks 12-01-2005 09:24 PM

yep i am gonna go to mcdonalds and have a plain cheeseburger!

but no fries.. lol and i am so trained now i probably wouldnt eat the bun either.. and more than likely it will probably taste like crap to me now!

iwmonn 12-01-2005 10:32 PM

Hey There PIC's,

Well 3rd time better be a charm... Since last night after my meeting i've written 2 posts and lost them both before hitting that send button so maybe that means I'm not supposed to tell you what I was telling you, which I don't know why not so I'll tell you one more time. LOL

First, I did go to the WW meeting last night. It took a lot for me to walk in the door. LOL I don't do well in stranger situations. I'm kinda an internet gal ;). First they were all weighing in, talking about their Thanksgivings and just looked at me and smiled a little, then they more or less ignored me.... I really had to work hard not to stand there and cry or just leave. After they all weighed in, the leader came over and gave me some materials, then my friends showed up and introductions around the table were made, and I had a nice time. They don't seem like strangers anymore. I'm a bit confused tho. Like Val w/SBD, I don't feel the structure with the points. A burrito is X points, but doesn't say what's in that burrito re; calories, fat, carbs etc....
I am journaling tho.... and will keep working on it :)

Also I used FitDay yesterday. It's definately a time involved program but WOW, I was really surprised with the results I came up with as far as calories, breakdown of the foods etc... I was way over what I thought I was. I'll keep working that program too.

I'm gonna start my Christmas Challenge today. My weight has stayed the same for a couple weeks now. Thankfully I haven't gained anything (according to my scale and the WW scale)....

I was answering everyone seperately, but this post is (as usual) long enough lol so I'll be taking my leave. hehehe... YOu all have a wonderful day and :grouphug: I'll ttys.

Valerie Joy 12-01-2005 10:59 PM

Dee I think it's great that you're using fitday! Once you get all your foods put in it's not that hard.

I'm doing a combination of Zone/SB/calorie counting and ti's working for me!

iwmonn 12-01-2005 11:16 PM

(((((Val))))))!!! Thanks

Imagine the Christmas you guys will be visiting Bings folks, and I'll be visiting my family and we can hook up again... we won't even recognise each other.... WooooHOOOOOO!!!

~zoey~ 12-02-2005 12:46 AM

Greetings PICs

I am just checking in for a minute. We are off for Iowa and cold weather in the early AM.

Talk to you next week.

zoey

petra65 12-02-2005 08:25 AM

Zoey-have a great time in Iowa and keep warm.

Dee-congrats on getting to your first meeting. Fitday can take some getting used to but once you do learn to use it, it is great. It is an eye opener when you first learn what it is in your food. I know it was for me. Didn't they offer you a choice between points and core at your meeting? Also, if you ask what is in that burrito they will tell you. As far as low cal/low fat dieting goes, weight watchers has a well designed program. I'm just not a big fan of that approach although I did very well on WW-I actually lost 50 lbs with WW. As you may have noticed, you lose points as you lose weight--that didn't go over well with me.

curlylocks 12-02-2005 04:54 PM

were's all the pic's?

iwmonn 12-02-2005 08:57 PM

Hey All,

My, it really is a slow day here. Getting close to the weekend I guess. At least the weekend for everyone but meeeeee. lol.

I"m having an ok day today. A headache for 3 days now, sinuses I think. I don't get headaches, but it's less now than this morning.

Petra~ THanks for the support. I'm going to really give WW a shot, but my reservations really do seem to mirror yours. I know I can find out what's in that burrito but regardless- it's still worth X points.... My fitday stuff was better last night, calories were good, but yiikkeeees at the carbs! I'm surprised it doesn't figure out the net carbs tho. Haha it still wouldn't have put my carbs at 50- but remembering what my first diabetes counsouler told me 30g per meal was the goal for me...... not weight loss advice, but blood sugar advice... uh ohhh here I go trying to mix my diets to suit my reasoning again...
I asked about the core plan and the only person on it is the leader who said she didn't recommend it until maintainence. I'll figure out the points eventually. it's kind of a guessing game right now cuz so many things aren't in the book. If I find it too frustrating, I'll work it along side the 4 corners- as I become familiar enough to do that. I kinda don't want to give up the WW no matter what cuz I really think I need the suppoer, ya know?

I"m feeling much more optomistic about myself and my choices again. :)

I hope you all have a great weekend!!! Good luck!!! :grouphug:

angel-eyes 12-02-2005 09:05 PM

Iwmonn.....So many things are not in the little beginner book because they want you to buy the companion food list book and the dining out book. You really should buy these (if they sell it at your meeting) because it literally has thousands and thousands of items. I can imagine how frustrating it is to look up the points only using that little manual. I think for the both of them and a handy dandy purse to hold them both, is only $20. Good job on making it to your first meeting!!!:carrot:

iwmonn 12-02-2005 10:58 PM

thanks AngelEyes, I'm going to keep my eyes open for those books. We have a very very small group so I'm not sure they sell the WW extras. (They don't even charge for membership or weekly meetings!!!) I have found some very useful info online in the last couple hours tho.

curlylocks 12-03-2005 08:06 AM

maybe u could find them online? ahhh just checked ebay has tons of WW stuff!

was it angel or lisa who posted the link for the list of weight loss pages? ya know peoples personal weight loss stories? could u plz re post the addy? i really enjoy reading them helps me focus...

momX3 12-03-2005 10:41 AM

Morning All! I know I keep going missing. Sorry about that but life seems to get in the way sometimes.

So I started my third week of Body For Life on Thursday. The first two weeks I lost 2 pounds but I am still tweaking my eating to figure out what is going to be best for me. Also TOM decided to visit during my second week so I'm sure when I step on the scale again I will be down some more.

The really great news though is I am in a size 14 jeans!!!!:carrot: I went out the other day and bought a size 12 to help motivate. Size 14 was the smallest size I had hanging out in my closet.

So that's pretty much it for me. I will try to get on more often. TTYL

Louie 12-03-2005 11:11 AM

Curly - if you look back to page 147 there is a post from Lisa with that website that you are looking for.

petra65 12-03-2005 11:46 AM

Dee-There is also a pretty large WW forum here so you may be able to get quite a bit of info there. I believe Jennie is doing Core and she is still in the active losing phase. I'll also warn you about those little WW purses-they must put something in them that smells good because when I did WW I only had Buddy and he NEVER chew things but he completely chewed that thing up! LOL

Also, I have the Fitday for my PC so I don't know if it is different from what you are using but down at the bottom of mine there is a little menu in blue with things like calories, nutrition, %RDA, etc. If you click on Weight goal it will actually give you net carbs and fiber separately. I just leave mine set that way so I don't have to do the subtraction all the time.

angel-eyes 12-03-2005 04:32 PM

Great job Mom!!! That is such fantastic news!!! Good to hear from you. Hey?...don't be a stranger ....okay?

Hey girls....I've been struggling today for some reason. I'll blame bordeom and PMS. Either way I felt compelled to have a deliciously sinful chocolate bar. When my GF came a month ago, she brought me 3 of my favourite bars from back home. They have sat in a drawer all this time and wouldn't you know, one was calling my name!!! I have to get it out of my head now, and let it be another month or two before I eat another!!!

Today was Breakfast with Santa at my son's school. Always a crowd pleaser. The pancake chef was quite surprized when I said I wanted only one....he gave me two regardless. I should have just put one in the trash but I ate a small portion of the second one and 2 little sausages.

Does everyone have their tree's up? We have still yet to finish decorating ours, but will do it later on this afternoon. ABC Family channel has all the old time Christmas cartoons on today. Rudolf, Frosty, Little drummer boy....**sigh** those were the days!!! Have a good day everyone!!!

curlylocks 12-03-2005 05:28 PM

thanks T!

petra65 12-03-2005 07:46 PM

Yep my tree is up but not completely decorated yet. I seem to be doing it in stages. I've been working on more nut recipes today. I did the barbecued peanuts today. They turned out great. I combined two recipes. It's actually a barbecue rub for meat that I put on nuts. I also tried to do the honey barbecue thing and I can't tell if it works or not. The peanuts taste good but I can't tell if they taste like honey barbecue or not. I'll have to get someone else to try them. I've also made some today that I don't like-I made ginger soy pecans. I don't know if it's just me or not so I'll take them to work and let people try them. Maybe it would taste better on a different kind of nut? I've also tried some pumpkin seeds today and the first batch ended up in the trash. They smelled great going into the oven but they tested like crap. I have a second batch cooling. Hopefully they turned out better. I also did some maple glazed walnuts. I tried these before. They are good but they burn easily. I did better with them today.

I finally got my containers ordered so they should be here soon and a friend from church is going to come over and help me make the official ones one afternoon. I imagine this will be a more than one afternoon project but it will be nice to have the help. These will actually be somewhat expensive Christmas presents-nuts aren't cheap and I had to do all this experimenting this year. If I do this every year it might not be so bad because I at least have the recipes down.

curlylocks 12-03-2005 07:51 PM

lol i could put up a tree as long as i decorate it with chai's toys... he only chews up my stuff not his!

Petra: the nuts sound yummy...

mom: way to go!!!!!!!!

Valerie Joy 12-04-2005 03:14 PM

Hi PIC's!

We're having a nice sunday here. I need to get some more hula hoops made today. I'm selling them at a craft sale at curves tomorrow. I know everyone there thinks I'm crazy but they are really fun.. and good exercise!

My husband brought some laughing cow cheese home today from the fruit market. I've been looking for it for a while. I've been eating FF Kraft singles which are pretty nasty coming from a cheese head like me.

I really like the laughing cow wedges. I spread it on a slice of rye toast and it was yummy!. 50 calories but kinda high in saturated fat. I wonder if I got the right kind that most people here are using. It was swiss flavored.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. We're going to Lush in a bit to buy a christmas present for my sisterinlaw and hopefully a little something for me :)

angel-eyes 12-04-2005 05:28 PM

Hi Valerie. I buy the laughing cow cheese all the time. They make a regular wedge and a 'light' wedge for 30 cal and 1 Sat gr fat. I have a herb flavour right now. They are good aren't they? You might like to try Borden's Sharp slices. They are made with 2% milk and its not so rubbery as some of the ff slices I've tried. They are low in pts also. Good luck with you hula hoop sale. Never could do those blasted things!!!

curlylocks 12-04-2005 07:18 PM

i dont know if u have "food lion" grocery stores there .. but their store brand ff cheese is far superior to the name brands in taste..

petra65 12-04-2005 08:51 PM

It's interesting how you can tell where you live geographically by what grocery stores you have. I think Food Lions are only below the Mason Dixon Line, LOL. I've lived in the south so I"m familiar with Food Lion and Kroger and Harris Teeter, etc. (My dad worked for a grocery store) We have Weis/King's which I bet you never heard of either.

iwmonn 12-04-2005 10:35 PM

You mean there are other stores besides Anchor Bay Village Market??? ;) hehehehe

iwmonn 12-04-2005 10:59 PM

Hi PIC's!

How is everyone this fine Sunday evening? We're doing well here. It's been cold'ish too... I needed to use an ice scraper on my car windows this morning, if I owned one, but heck.... i didn't even bring a coat with me when I moved to California. Who knew?? lol...

Val~ I was wondering if you were still doing the hula hoop thing... I'm laffing thinking about the last time I tried one. I'm sure I looked even sillier than I felt. I am SOOO uncoordinated. Good luck with the sale!

Curly~ Thanks for the look on EBay tip... For the time being I'm finding some great info on different websites. One has a calculator to figure out WW points based on cals, fat & fiber (i think).. Good luck with your tree;)

Mom~ Congrats with the size 14!!! I think I was about a Jr. in high school last time is was in a 14- swimming 3-5 hours per day at the time. I've always been 'chunky' but I was solid back then. YOu must feel soooooo good.

AngelEyes~ Hey GF... breakfast with santa? You lucky lady lol... I was going to have a tree this year but when the plans changed to go to CO for new year, I kind of got out of the mood... it's been hard since my mom passed away to get into the Christmas thing. She was a complete Christmas freak!! It was always special. Now, since we don't have kids, there just seems no real reason. *sigh* maybe next year.

TLB~ Hey woman! How's your snow?

Petra~ Your nuts sound soooo good. The honey bbq- yummmmmmm. But I'm not gonna get me started lol.

And to the rest of you~ :grouphug: I hope you all are doing well!!! We'd love to hear from you.

Valerie Joy 12-05-2005 12:59 AM

I have a lot of people say to me they could never hula hoop and I say to them with my hoops you can!

I just love to see the look on peoples faces when they start hooping for the first time! It is so much fun! So even if I don't sell any hoops hopefully we can at least have some fun at curves with them!

I don't have a Food Lion by me. We have Dominicks (safeway) & Jewel. Both have a really poor selection of LF and FF cheese. I talked to my husband and apparently they did have the lite Laughing Cow cheese at the fruit market but he bought the full fat one. Guess I don't have him trained that well yet:lol:
