I guess what I do would also technically be considered circuit training. I have a group of weight machines I do in a certain order. You crank up the weight so that you completely fatigue within 3-6 reps and you lift the weight SLOOOWLY 10 seconds up and 10 seconds down. Thus the name, Slow Burn.
Curly, thanks for posting the pictures. Now everyone knows what I look like. How scary is that? Got on the scale today and all that nasty Christmas weight is gone. YEAH!! Back to work for me today. Have my personal training session at the gym tonight. Have a safe flight and a great time in Denver Dee. We'll be looking forward to hearing all about your trip when you get back. |
Morning all.....:coffee: I can't remember who was telling me about the JennieO turkey bacon but I bought some and its pretty good!! I'm surprized. Lately my breakfast routine is 2 toasted lc whole wheat sandwich with a cheese slice in the middle. Well, the turkey bacon is a nice add to that and extra protein to boot!! Thanks for the idea.
Well I am off to the gym in a minute, I haven't been in a while and although I'm loving my walks/ipod....I feel like I'm letting too many days slide. My food as been great and OP, but I gotta go or else... I don't know. I bought some new workout stuff yesterday; a cool XL....thankgod the 1X's are gone!!! Petra....Great job on making the scale move!!! I knew it was just a temp thing. How is Kobe doing? any word yet? Enjoy your killer PT session tonight, feel the burn baby;) Forgot to mention your pics Petra.....very nice sofa!! Very nice pictures of you and Kobe. I think I remember seeing you before in some of your website albums. Hey? how did your nuts go over as presents? Iwmonn....good luck on your trip and have a great time!! Curly.....How cool is that, Curves does a boot camp? Awesome!! You're doing such a great job. |
Ack!!! At this time we are stuck at home. The slide has the highway closed south, and the river has it closed north... there are a couple of routes we could still try, but they are semi paved and very likely slides and/or trees down. I have a feeling we're gonna give my new truck a workout ;)
Thanks for the info on the circuit training Curly. Your workout sounds really interesting Petra. Does it burn more cals, or just build more muscle quicker? What's the purpose/difference? ok girls, i suppose i'm just doing a waiting game today so I may be back. I've got that nervous energy lol. Hugs to you all again!!! D~ |
Hey isnt this cool? i just ordered it from avon... the entire front (the purple) is reflective and it has a pocket across the lower back that velcro's shut to stash your stuff when u are walking!! they have pants also but the vest is really all i need.....
p.s. butterball turkey bacon is good also |

Hi PIC's!
I just got back from curves. I had a good workout today. Curly your place sounds very similar. I wish they would sometimes put the weight up on our machines but I don't think they're adjustable. I love curves but the workouts are becoming almost easy for me! Dee I can't believe you're stuck! How fustrating! Good luck getting out! I'll be thinking about you! |
Curly I had a very bad experience with Bally's. I joined about 10 years ago and went everyday for about 2 weeks when I found out my location was closing. They knew full well that this location was closing but they never bothered to tell me when they signed me up for a 2 year contract! I had been riding my bike to the club and then they were telling me that I had to go 10 miles away. I just couldn't do it.
So after tricking me into joining they wouldnt' let me out of the contract and I ened up going into collections because of it. I wasn't going to pay for a club that I wasn't able to use! I ended up getting a bad credit report because of them! I just got the feeling that they didnt' care at all about my health.. they just took my money and ran. |
Curly..... I tried your link about the DH channel and I didn't get to any sign up page. I'll try later.
Iwmonn.....Hope you get out GF!!! The weather must just wreak havoc...rain, wash outs and mud slides!!! :yikes: Valerie......I know of a few people that have been burned with memberships and then the gym closing. Sounds like a pretty mean thing to do. I mean, they most times know about a closing (well the owner, mngr) more than 2 weeks into it. I'm in the process of highlighting my hair.....doing ds also. His is so easy, nice and short but mine has alot of wave to it. We'll see. I wanted a fresh new look .....almost 30 lbs lost.....inlaws coming and they haven't seen me for 1 yr......new clothes and a NEW YEAR!!! Wait till dh comes home...;) hehe .....who knows what will happen then!!! I finally made it to the gym today....woohooo:carrot: , to quote a famous singer..."IT FEELS GOOD" Hope everyone is OP for the day. __________________ |
haha i kept looking for it also u cant sign up till dec 30th so i guess they havent posted the info yet!

I think the point of my slow burn is to build muscle faster.
The nuts were a big hit. I think they will be an annual event You guys are not going to believe this. I went to pick Kobe up this afternoon and while I"m waiting for them to get my $800 bill together I'm looking at the bulletin board they have in the office and I see this flyer about a dog food recall. This brand of dog food has been contaminated with a fungus that makes a toxin that causes liver failure. There have even been fatalities reported. Guess what brand of dogfood Kobe eats? Remember he got sick a couple weeks ago too? I bought a new bag of dogfood right before that weekend and this recall just came out. Unfortunately, I've already thrown the bag out so I can't check the lot number but I'd bet you that is what has been making him sick and why Buddy hasn't gotten sick. Buddy eats a different brand because he has bad allergies. Now I have to dispose of all this dog food and clean out the container I keep it in before I get new stuff for him. He's on chicken and rice for a few days anyway. Good thing I found out before I started feeding it to him again. Unbelievable! I could have killed my dog accidentally. |
Wow thats crazy Petra! You think they would be more careful with the food they're making! Good thing you stopped giving it to him!
|
Can you imagine the lawsuits over the dogs that died? I'm just grateful Kobe looks like he is going to be okay. He's not himself yet but definately a big improvement. The chicken and rice is staying down, although you should see Buddy's face when I serve chicken and rice to Kobe and he gets his usual dog food. It's priceless!
|
what brand was it petra?
|
omg!!!! That is CRAZY!!! Now why wouldn't you have heard anything in the news, flyer recall notices at the grocery store by the petfood, tv ....anything?
Kobe is a very lucky dog!!! The boys old busdriver told me one time that he bought a bag of dog food at a flea market (really cheap) and then 3 days later his St. Bernard dog died!!! This is more common than we think, he was heart broken. Lamb and rice is very mild for his tummy....poor thing, hope he starts to feel like his old self soon!! Food Journal Dec 28th: Breakfast......toasted sandwich, cheese slice, 3 pc turkey bacon, coffee Snack......protein shake (carb countdown, powder, strawberries) Lunch......high fibre tortilla wrap, egg salad, lettuce, south beach granola bar Snack.......soy crisps, 1T ff cream cheese, tangerine Dinner......ham, cheese sandwich, ff pudding Snack....(very snack-y).....1/2 C cereal, added fibre one, carb countdown milk Total calories......1308 36%carb/33%protein/29%fat gym workout....... 25 minutes weight training/45 minutes treadmill |
Hello all my name is Gwena. Valerie Joy is my friend and invited me to be a partner in crime. I'm 33 years old, married with two young daughters. I go to school full time and work part time in the college book store.
I've failed at diets in the past mostly because I obsess about food, and I think that I have to starve myself to lose weight. So this time I'm going to use fit day and some supportive friends (you lovely people) to get my butt in gear. If you have any questions or recommendations feel free to ask. |
Hi Gwena....and welcome!! Well any friend of Valerie's ...is a friend of mine!! Post often and tell us more about yourself along the way.
I'm 45 yo and a sahm. I have 2 boys, ages 12 (going on 16 :yikes:) and 8 yo. I've been pseudo following ww's and a combination of Jillian Michael's book, Winning by losing. Nice to meet you!!:carrot: |
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I had originally planned on doing the WW points, but I obsess about food as it is and I don't want to go overboard. I'm just going to make wise food choices and track my intake on fitday. My oldest daughter is 7 going on 17 and there's never a dull moment around here. :dizzy: |
Hi Gwena! good to see you here  I think using fitday is great because it holds you accountable for what you're eating! I've gotten some great ideas and support from my friend here. I don't know if I would have made it this far without this site!
BTW with this group you get one flashing flower for every 5 pounds lost *points to all my flowers* :) |
Hi Val!
I'm growing to love fit day! I even used the journal on it this am. :D Look at all of those flowers! You go girlie!! :carrot: |
Hi Gwena!!!
welcome to the PICS! ummm i would suggest south beach cuz u still get plenty to eat 3 meals and snacks... i am 45 single and live in maryland i have 3 cats and a rotten dog! yep i love fit day also! |
Welcome Gwena. I'm another fitday user. I believe in journalling religiously. I'm a hard core low carber. Probably the only one on this thread but they love me anyway, LOL. You have to find the plan you can stick with and that can't be starving.
Kobe ate Diamond Low Fat dog food. It turns out that people have heard about this sort of hit and miss. However, something this serious you'd think would have been on the news. Maybe it has been on animal planet recently but I haven't watched lately. I called the pet store today where I bought the food and confirmed that I probably bought a bad bag. They offered me a refund (like that would help). I entered my info on the company's web site so they at least know about Kobe's case. The pet store also told me that other people in the area have reported that their dogs have gotten sick after eating the food. I didn't ask about fatalities. I'm switching to Science Diet Lite. I have to find another container to store all this other dog food in, in case they ask for it back. |
Petra I've never heard of that dog food. I thinks science diet is a good choice.
Heres my food and exercise journal for today. Thursday, December 29, 2005 B: Zone Bar (210) L: PB & J sandwich on low carb bread, 1 wedge LC cheese lite (310) S: No Pudge Sundae cone (100) S: Okra, 1 slice LF provolone (71) D: Zone Curry chicken w/yogurt, red pepper, peas, mushrooms (260) S: No Pudge Sundae Cone (100) S: 2 slices ham, 2 Laughing Cow cheese wedges (130 S: 3 slices NF cheese on low carb bread, strawberries (210) Calorie 1444 Exercise 45 minutes Tae Bo I have to say this Tae Bo is really kicking my butt. Now my back is aching again so maybe it's not the best exercise for me. I like the attitude of it though and it's a fun workout. |
Hi PIC's
I'm just in an awfull funk tonight. My back is thrown out again I feel like I have a cold and my NYE plans just got ruined. I have tickets for the aragon ballroom in chicago which I've been to many times. I just found out that the balcony is going to be VIP only. I always had gotten there early to get a balcony seat and now I find out I have to be on the crowded floor. The truth is I can't do it. I can stand straight for about 3 hours tops before my feet really start hurting. This show is going to be like 7 hours standing just to get to NYE moment. It's embarassing to say but because of my weight I'm going to be left out from something I really wanted to do :( |
hey guys walmart has a cheapie mp3 player if any one is looking for one 39.99 and its an RCA
|
Val - that royally stinks! Don't let this get you down. You've come so far! You inspire me, and that isn't easy to do.
|
val skinny people have back issues also..... so plz dont get all depressed... u have made great progress.. dont put yourself down!!
|
GDay Partners !
I hope that you all had a wonderful christmas and that Santa was good to you all ! I am enjoying a few days off from work, although I have been hitting the books. hmm work or school, not sure which is the lesser of two evils  Petra - i am seriously thinking of joining you and becoming a low carber. When I lost that big chunk of weight before xmas I was really watching my carbs and it was working for me. Now that I have gone back to eating carbs I feel like I have a carb hangover.. foggy head, tired etc... We are heading to the mall tonight so I am going to pick up Protein Power and have a read over the weekend. I may have questions so I hope you can help me out !! I hope everyone has a wonderful new years and is able to spend it with family and friends. Cheers  |
Hi Everyone
Sorry for the pity party I was having last night. My back is feeling a bit better today. I guess I should make another chiropractor apointment. It's raining here today. Very dark and dreary. I might try and do a WATP (((everyone))) I'll post later with my food journal |
wooooooooooooo hooo i think my scale really is broken.. i weighed my self today after i worked out and i was 235 !!!
but i guess i will stay with my scale... i was just so excited to see a different number! |
Curly maybe your scale is broken.. try kicking it a few times to see if it helps :) j/k
My daily food journal Friday, December 30, 2005 B: Zone Bar (210) L: ½ cup eggbeater, 1 slice Lf provolone, 1 slice rye w/LC cheese wedge (205) S: PB & J on low carb bread, 1 laughing cow cheese wedge (310) D: Chix sandwich & cauliflower (250) S: Yogurt & Strawberries (190) S: 3 slices NF cheese on low carb bread, strawberries (210) Calories 1565 Exercise 2 mile WATP :carrot: Happy New Year everyone! :balloons: I bet the board is going to get busy with new people with resolutions! |
Looks like I may have to go out and buy a new diet book to read. This one looks interesting and good. The Mediterranean diet only has one chapter in the whole book on weight loss.
Teri-if you read this before you go to the mall. Get Protein Power LifePlan instead. I think it is easier to read/use than the original. Less caluculating to do. I went to the pet store yesterday to get new food for Kobe and found out that there have been fatalities in our local area. How sad. I also called our local news station because I can't believe this hasn't been in the news considering the seriousness of it. The pet store manager said that it did scroll across the bottom of CNN for a day or so but obviously I never saw it. |
Petra....Good thing you brought in the media. I also am shocked that no one thought this was a newsworthy 'story'.....and some of it I'm sure could have been prevented or avoided!!! Thankfully Kobe is doing much better.
Val......I hope you're back is getting the much needed medical attention and some TLC. I hope you are still able to go tonight. You've done so well to stop now!!! Curly.....WOOHOO GF!!! What a great way to start the NEW YEAR!!! I knew you could break through!!! :carrot: TLB.....Nice to hear from you!! Enjoy your holidays from work and school. Gosh...you work sooo hard!!! ..... Have a Happy New Year!! Well my visit with the in-laws is going well....onto Day 2 today. And we haven't had any food issues yet. Yesterday we went to Whole Foods, a smancy fancy organic food store and she bought all sorts, then last night we ate out. Tonight for dinner is going to be rack of lamb. Of course, I'll have to do hers in a seperate pan and start it much earlier as she likes it ultra cooked well done but thats okay. I went to the gym yesterday for a 3.5 mile run....:carrot: hehe...still can't believe I can do that. When they arrived, my FIL (I was shocked) noticed my weight loss almost immediately (and he went on and on)....to which my MIL only said, 'good job dear'. hmmp, apparently its not as a 'big deal' as when her daughter lost 30 lbs and she couldn't shut up about it ......okay angel.....DEEP CLEANSING BREATHS!!!! |
I think my scale is broken too! Today is the day that I've appointed my "official weigh in day", and I'm down 10 pounds from last week. I won't be looking for any big losses like this one anytime soon.
|
Petra - thanks for the info, that is the book that I picked up and I had a quick glance through it last night. Tomorrow I may find time to lay on the couch and have a read !
|
Wooo Hooooo Gwena! Great Job :cp: I see you changed your avator. I liked the celtic one also!
I am going to go to the show tonight. I'll just try and stay as long as I can. Another problem is I'm diabetic and they don't sell any food there.. unless you consider beer a food. Happy New Year everyone! |
Well I think my husband would consider beer as food. :D
I hope you have a great time Val! I haven't added my flowers yet. For some reason I feel like it wasn't an actual victory b/c it was mostly water weight. Yes, I'm goofy. :dizzy: I'm making arroz con pollo for supper (well I'm actually winging it) and the chicken in the crock pot smells so good! :D |
Fantastic job Gwena. Who cares if it's water weight. Weight is weight.
Angel--sorry about the MIL issues. I wish we had a whole foods here. The store I shop at most of the time has a decent organic section but not as nice as whole foods. I got the Sonoma Diet today and read the majority of it. It's pretty good. No scientific hogwash in this one. It's sort of a cross between southbeach and schwarzbein for those of you who have read those books. It has the structure Southbeach lacks, but I kept thinking about the Schwarzbein square as I was reading the book. It definately restricts saturated fat and allows alcohol which is different from Dr. Schwarzbein's philosophy but the proportions and kinds of foods are quite similar to her plan. I think it is a plan that even a low carber could like. The basic "get back to nature" philosophy that is at the core of most low carb diets is also at the core of this one too although she doesn't promote eating organic as much as a lot of the low carb authors do. I think the author would even label it low glycemic although she tries to avoid those kinds of labels in the book. My only criticisms are that she says you don't have to weigh and measure and you clearly do have to at least measure some things. Not a big deal--I think anyone who tries to lose weight should be prepared to do that, she should just be honest about it. Yes, you will have to measure some of your food. The other is that she has little testamonial blurbs in the book and none of them were people who had lost what I would call "substantial" amounts of weight (>50 lbs.) which might give some people the impression that this is not a diet for the seriously overweight. In fact, I don't think there were any over 30 lbs. |
I would like to join your group. :D I found this site ealier in the week when I did a search. I do not even remember what I was searching for now. :dizzy: I would like to introduce myself. I am 35yo, I have 3 children a son 12yo, another son 9yo, and a daughter who is 7yo. I have been married for 14 years. I work full time as an accountant and my husband is a truck driver. I also started an online school in hopes of earning an MBA. :?:
I have been trying to lose weight forever. My biggest problem is a do really well and then just get bored and stop? I am energized and excited and hope with the New Year comes a new me. :D I have been OP for two days (I know not long but a start) I belong to a gym called Circuit Works, it is just like curves. I have to say my contract includes a clause about if the gym closes, so I should not get taken like I read a few of you have, course mine is also month by month. |
Welcome Trudei.
So ladies, are we starting a new thread for 2006? |
