L2L: I am glad I Didn't hurt your feelings sometimes support is a hug but sometimes it needs to be a kick in the butt!! You can do this girl..quit playing the weight loss game and just do it!!!
I am in for the turkey challenge.I was so close to making the Halloween one but I messed myself up by quitting smoking(but so glad I did!!) and then having that huge gain.(still tryign to figure that one out) SO before I give you a number I want to wait until next Monday and see what my loss will be for this week so I can get a more realistic view of where I am at. Does that make sense? I still want to be in onderland by Thanksgiving but I want an honest...where do I start. I will make me a tracker to do it with on Monday after WI. Anyone else ever make WW VEggie Soup?? I made some over the weekend and I LOVE IT!! It has been my lunch all week. I have that with a rice cake and 1 tsp of peanut butter. VERY FILLING!! |
omg, lisa look at that lil cutie on ur av!!!
|
That's my baby!!!! and my inspiration!!!!!
THose are the fall leaves in Wyoming..IT has been beautiful here up until today...raining and cruddy today. |
howdy everyone!!.. just wanted to thank you all for the support.. I made better choices yesterday,, we went to Applebee's for dinner, and I had one of their Weight Watcher meals.. with like 6 grams of fat and 600 calories.. today I'm making steamed veggies and T-bones on the grill.. I need to get back into the good habit of keeping a food journal.. and excercizing and drinking water.. but one step at a time right? Well I would love to get in on the "Turkey Ticker".. and I'm giving myself till Monday to get back on track.. I did really well with the plan I started on, until I decided it was okay to put it on pause for different social events.. but not this time.. I'm still a little hesitant of my self, but I know with you great gals I have the support I need.. Thank you...
|
Dear L2L, please don't be down on yourself, I know that you can get back OP, you have done it before. That :df: *must* have meant something!
Why not give TOPS a try. If you don't like it you don't have to keep going. I agree with Lisa_WM that motivation has to come from within, but friends don't hurt either, :D and you have a lot of friends here, all pulling for you. We all fall down, the way to success is in getting back up and trying again. :) Dee, you started this bunch right? We need your posts and like Petra said, you will get going OP again when the time is right. Hi to all, zoey |
thats the way to think Dee!
|

WELL GIRLS FORGET THAT IF U ARE ON SOUTH BEACH CUZ PUMPKIN IS ON THE HIGH GYLCEMIC INDEX, WOULD MAKE NICE CHRISTMAS GIFTS THO.. Glycemic Index: 75 Glycemic Index Rating: High |
Lisa...very cute picture in your avatar!!! And as for the soup? I make it ALL the time, no seriously....almost every week!!! I buy a frozen veggie that has aspargus, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms.....I LOVE IT!!! I make another one that is just chicken broth and cooked carrots, puree in a blender, then add a touch of ginger. YUM YUM....so thick and hearty!! Those soups with a 1 pt ww bagel.....can't ask for anything better.
Whats for dinner tonight? We're eating on the run, as religious ed. classes are tonight at our church and the boys are dashing right off the school bus. But I'm going to have some vegetable eggrolls. Only 2 pts each. Lisa, have you had these yet? they are by Kahiki and are in the frozen food isle. They even come with a sweet n sour sauce packet. Gotta try them!! |
Hey Curly...we seem to be posting at the same time!! My only pumpkin recipie that I have is for chocolate pumpkin muffins. Take a choc. cake recipie and add a can of pumpkin. Think thats it...and bake. Just to be sure I'll go hunt down the recipie, just in case. They are 2 pts each I think. I'll have to make these soon as its the season and its been awhile.

It's me at work
I have a funny to share. I was telling Deerod that I was so happy that we had two of our stragglers back in the herd and then realized that "herd" was quite possibly a poor choice of words and changed it to flock. Since we're chicks-n-all. ;) Sometimes I amuse only myself with my warped and twisted sense of humor.
I brought my walking stick to work with me today and it's gotten me a lot of looks from sympathetic or possibly disgusted on lookers. "Oh if she'd just lose weight, I bet that leg would heal.:( " (they're probably thinking) Well, bite me folks! I'm working on it. But eating a whole stack of popcorn cakes is probably not the best choice for a first step. Of course, I told myself I didn't want to take Tylenol on an empty stomach. That doesn't give a reason to eat ALL of them. Do we have a rolling eyes smilie? Yep, guess so. I didn't bring any water with me today, but I at least planned my food out (with the exception of eating ALL the popcorn cakes I brought) and I've got my new "Exercise Balls for Dummies" book to lay out a ball/weight-strength training set for myself to work around my knee problem. One step at a time, baby steps. How is everyone doing? I'll probably check in again later this evening. I've got some threads and posts and WW recipes to cruise through. Lisa WY, I tried that WW soup once, by the letter and didn't like it, but found after I doctored it up, it was better. Maybe I should try again that could have been a long time ago. I forget. But it's worth another try. I do love soup. (Just not TURTLE soup! ) |
turtle turtle turtle.....
Turtle am i gonna have to come up there? Girl u weigh 230 and some change NOT 450!.. thats a lil heavy but its not enormus.. geez i myself think i look quite sexy at 240.. lol
Hey guys have u read the "biggest loser thread" Jillian the trainer from the show is actually posting in a thread there.. answering questions about her new book! cool huh? P.S. doesn anyone ever use the chat feature? Oh and i had to go buy a top to wear for an interview cuz none of my clothes (nice ones) fit! lol |
Wow, what a busy day on this thread. Good to see our lost flock members finding their way home.
L2L-I'm like Lisa and more of a butt kicker than a hand holder. Have you considered Overeaters Anonymous? It's free, and the price doesn't get better than that. The best plan for any one person is the one you can stick to FOR LIFE. You need to get out of the dieting mindset and remember that you will be eating differently forever so take some time and decide on a plan you can think you can do FOREVER. I would also venture a guess that your real problem is with refined sugar and not all food. I doubt you are bingeing on broccoli. You may want to page back and read some of my diatribes on refined sugar. Curly-pumpkin may have a high GI but it is not all that high in carbs so I can have it. How about that? However, you lost me with the apple juice in those recipes. I made a pumpkin custard/pudding recipe over the weekend that is awesome. Lisa-I made that soup several times when I was on WW. Like Turtle, I had to doctor it up. It was too bland. I don't know if you have that WW cookbook or not but there is a spanish pepper soup in there that I really liked and made it several times. I think it was quite low in points. Went to power yoga tonight but I think I have tendonitis in my foot. I'm really challenged with ticker making. It took me about 10 tries to make the one I currently have so I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to make a new one. |
now custard sounds really good!!!!
ouch hope your foot is soon feeling better! i am fightin my heel spur again... its fine as long as i keep going! ( and just when they upped our insurance deductible to 800$) |
Petra: I add a can of tomatos juice and all to my WW magic soup..plus I used fresh thyme and something else I can't remember right now. THere is one posted on the website and one in our 1st week book..I sort of added them together to make it.I used broccali, califlower, tomatoes, celery, cabage, shredded carrots, green beans and a can of tomato sauce(I didn't have any paste) I also added some other spices. LOL FIgured they were free. LOL I liked it..I had it for lunch all week...very filling and ZERO points. LOL
I have some fresh pumpkin.. ANyone know what to do with it? Dh wants pumpkin soup?????????????? I think I might just throw some stuff in it and try to make it. I bought some squash soup..Campbells makes it..it is good but I couldn't figure out what else was in it..it was a sweet soup. I also love the tomato basil soup too. Oh Peta that is what I used fresh in my garden soup..was basil. LOL Turtle: You only weigh a few pounds more than some of us.. I feel sexy.. I feel good...even with my gain.. I am actually smaller. On a WW board that I am on..one of the posts in the "men's" section but mostly women posted... umm...do you have more drive. LOL.. Umm..most answered YES!! They found it easier..men said they found it easier if both of them were on WW. Try the soup..it is good. Curly: I watch teh biggest loser. Just started this season. I downloaded both the diets from Bob and Jillian and the exercise..OMG!! His is only about 800-1100 calories and hers I think is a no carb type diet but around 1400 calories a day. The exercise..is about 3-4 hours a day.. THey actually think you can do that???? I did follow some of Bob's advice today on the treadmill. I am doing the walk/jog thing. I even put it to 9mph..LMAO..I thought I would die..but he says to do that for as long as you can. LOL MY long was 30 seconds. LOL I am wondering if I can puree my pumpkin?? Why not. LOL I love splenda.. Have you bought the brown sugar kind? Angel: Before when I was on WW..I was doing the WW the fast food diet. LOL I never cooked. MY ex hubby would of never eaten the soup so I never made it. Actually how I ever lost 65lbs on WW before..with only fruit and very little veggies. My ex was one of those people we all hate that can eat anything and no gain..he never ate a veggie in his life. But I do get the last laugh because last time I seen him. (he was a 27/32 when we met.. yes waist was 27 and the heaviest he ever was a 30 waist.. now I think he is a 34. LOL) I shouldn't laugh..but I can because he is an EX. LOL Zoey: I wasn't saying that friends don't help any but it does need to come within first..but real friends will give you a kick in the pants. Ok..now that I am done with my trip down memory lane..I will have nightmares if I don't think of something besides my ex husband. LOL Lisa Wyoming |
Yeah, Lisa_WY, I understood that. Friends can give the best pants kicks because they are given with love!
zoey |
Lisa- I have several pumpkin recipes because it is considered a low carb fruit. Lots of fiber too, and beta carotene so it is really good for you. If I have time tonight I'll look them up for you.
I'm wearing my sneakers to work today. I hope I don't get any grief about it but my foot hurts. BTW, I like turtle soup! LMAO! It's quite popular in new orleans. |
Hey Gals,
super busy board, I love it! To anyone trying to make pumpkin soup or squash soup, I make some and its so good, what I do is sautee some onions and garlic, then pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil. Then add to that the pumkin in cubes and let it simmer for a while, until the pumpkin is tender and falling apart. At this point, you can either blend it in a blender or while a hand blender, or just mash it with a potato masher. Some times I put curry in it if I want it spicey, or sometimes, sweet kinds of spices like pumkin pie stuff if I want it more sweet. It becomes very creamy and thick and oh so easy. I think we all benefit from the kicks in the butt once in a while. It seems like its almost a dialy roller coaster ride for me. One day I'm like yeah I can do this, the next, I'm sad and bloated and like oh I should give up. But i'm not, and we're not! I'm down for the turkey take off challenge but its very soon, and I lose so slowly that I'm not going to guess to much will come off but its a good motivator. Yeah, I'm so happy to see so many people back and all the others full of steam! Jennie |
i tell ya the challenges really do help .. cuz i was thinking here i was see sawing but .. looking at my spooktacular ticker.. i have lost 11 lbs since we started.. so i am making progress.. no where near what i had stated as my goal but .. i'll take it .. lol
|
Good afternoon ladies!
My real name is Margo and I think that maybe by the time I get to goal, I will be saggy maggie or maybe baggy maggie! Sixty-eight year old bods don't tighten up very well. People don't call me maggie but they do call me meg. I should probably join the TG challenge because we are going to our daughter's for TG. This is the daughter who is a great cook and who looks a bit like Mrs. Santa Claus. ;) I hope that you are all doing well and OP. zoey |
Hey everyone!! How we all doing today? Just got back from grocery shopping and taking ds to the dr. again. She still doesn't like the wheezing in his lungs, so we are to continue using the nebulizer treatments and next week when PE starts up again; I need to drop off an inhaler before he goes to class. Holy cow!! He has never been like this before,...never even had bronchitis before.
Lisa....I was thinking about you and the ww's soup. Just made some, yum yum!! I was all out of bagels, so I had some crackers and cream cheese with it. I was thinking about the little blip of a gain I had, and I wonder if I wasn't eating enough. Gotta keep an eye on that. Question for you Lisa....??? Where were you able to download the stats/diet on The biggest Loser? I'd be interested to read up on that. There's another thread here I've been reading on it, and just like curly said....Jillian Michaels has been posting on it. I went to class this morning, the iso-ball. Gosh, thats a killer!! Yesterday I thought I would start using the weight machines.....oi oi oi....am I feeling it today or what!! I ache just about everywhere, very tender to touch. No pain no gain though, or so the saying goes. I'm sure it'll subside by the time I do it again. Curly......Good job girlfriend!!! 11 lbs is awesome!! Zoey.....I know the feeling!! Sometimes at 44 I feel the same way!! Things just seem to go downhill at 40 for me...let alone 68!!! Jennie......I 'm still up and down motivation wise. I just try not to slip up too much during a day and hope for the best some times!! Slow and steady!! Petra.....Hope your foot feels better soon. Nothing worse than standing on your feet all day and having intense pain. |
Pumpkin Recipes
I'm back with Pumpkin Recipes as promised. I've not tried these so I can't tell you how they taste. Apparently, people usually only cook with the smaller ones (the pie ones or "sugar pumpkins") They usually weigh about 2 lbs each.
First recipe is from George Stella who is the low carb cook on the Food Network. It is for a Stuffed Pumpkin 2 tbsp vegetable oil 1/2 cup chopped onion 1 1/2 cup chopped celery 1 lb ground beef 1/2 lb ground pork 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/4 cup beef stock 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 2 tbsp brandy One 2-2 1/2 lb pie pumpkin 1/4 cup brown sugar substitute 1/4 cup sugar substitute (splenda recommended) 1. Preheat oven to 350. 2. In a large saute pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium high heat. Add the onion and celery and cook until tender. Remove and set the vegetables aside. 3. Place the same pan over high heat. Add the meats, salt, pepper, and garlic powder and cook until the meat is thoroughly browned. Drain off the excess fat. 4. Turn the heat off and stir the sauteed veggies, beef stock, cloves, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and brandy into the meat mixture. 5. Prepare the pumpkin as you would for Halloween: Cut off the top and set it aside for later. Scoop out the stringy fiber and seeds and discard. Mix the sugar substitutes together and sprinkle inside the cleaned pumpkin. 6. Fill the pumpkin with the cooked meat mixture and replace the top. 7. Bake in a shallow pan for about 1 1/2 hours, until the pumpkin is tender when stuck with a fork. Remove the pumpkin from the oven, take off the top, cut into 6 wedges and serve the pumpkin and meat together. He says 4 net carbs per serving. Next recipe is from Dana Carpender's 500 More Low Carb Recipes for Chili Lime Pumpkin for those of you who like spicy food. 1 little pumpkin (about 2 lbs) 2 tbsp butter 1 tbsp oil 1/2 cup shelled pumpkin seeds (buy these separate, don't try to use the ones from your pumpkin) 1 tsp chili garlic paste (located in the Thai food section) 2 tsp lime juice 1. Whack your pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds. Peel off the hard rind, then cut the flesh into slices about 1/4" thick. 2. Put the butter and oil in your big, heavy skillet over medium heat. Swirl them together as the butter melts. Now, lay the pumpkin slices of pumpkin flat in the butter/oil mixture and saute until lightly golden on both sides, and tender, yet still al dente. You'll need to do this in more than one batch. 3. While this is happening, toast your pumpkin seeds in a dry skillet over medium-high heat until they swell a bit--about 4-5 minutes. Remove from the heat when they are done. 4. When the pumpkin is all cooked, put it all back in the skillet. Mix together the chili garlic paste and the lime juice, and gently mix it in, coating all of the pumpkin slices. 5. Lay the pumpkin slices on serving plates, top each serving with a tbsp of toasted pumpkin seeds, and serve. 8 servings, each with 89 calories, 5 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, 10 grams of carbs, 1 gram of fiber. Third recipe is for Baked Pumpkin Wedges from Saving Dinner the Low Carb Way by Leanne Ely 1 small pumpkin prepared and cut into four pieces (although I suspect one pumpkin really makes 6-8 servings) 1 tbsp olive oil salt and pepper to taste 1/2 tsp nutmeg Preheat oven to 425 Lightly oil the pumpkin on the fleshy side, salt and pepper to taste, then sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake for 30 minutes or until the pumpkin is tender 4 servings each with 61 calories, 4 grams of fat, 1 gram of protein, 8 grams of carb, and 1 gram of fiber. Dana Carpender also has a recipe for Chicken Sancocho which is a carribean stew that includes fresh pumpkin but takes all day to make. I doubt anyone is interested in that so I didn't include it. That should give you some ideas of what to do with fresh pumpkins. If anyone finds an easy way to whack them open and peel them let me know. Too much work for me. I just buy the canned stuff. |
whew!!! Lots of posts in the last couple days. It really really does help keep the inspiration flowing :)
I went to the city yesterday and got a new car!! We stopped at Marie Callenders for lunch and to see a freind there and I did good (I think) with a salad and slice of quiche. I DID NOT eat the crust hehe. Then we got to the Honda dealer and wound up having to wait like 7 hours for the car cuz they had to go to another dealer near Oakland to get it. We got really hungry so wound up going to Applebees for dinner and I didn't do so well. I saw the awesome ww meals, but opted for deep fried shrimp with garlic mashed potatos :( I ate all the shrimp, and my veggies but left most of the potatos. Anyways.... i can't let myself get so hungry. Soooooo today has been good. chicken, squash and green salad for dinner! Nice to meet you Dee!!! Welcome back. I was hoping to see you post someday. This is such a great group of Ladies. Thanks L2L~ Welcome back to you too! Keep coming back ;) Lisa_WY~ Great words of wisdom all the way around :) I'm glad we have such a straight forward speaker among us... Tell it like it is, with love and kindness thrown in. Curley~ The pumpkin cake thing was great. Hubby liked it too! 'cept i messed up and bought a pumpkin pie mix instead of 100% pumpkin so it already had nasty ickky sugar in it. I'll try it again the right way next time. Petra~ So the carbs in the pumpkin are ok? I was a little concerned cuz they seemed a bit high...... btw thanks for all the great info too. everyonje else~ dinner is about ready so i'm gonna get going. Congratulations to every one of us, for losses or for just being here! :grouphug: |
PUMPKIN-RAISIN MUFFINS
1 c. pumpkin 4 eggs or (8 whites) 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 1/2 c. non fat dry milk 5 pkgs. sweetener 8 tbsp. raisins 1 c. whole wheat flour 1 tsp. vanilla Spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground cloves Add grated carrots, if you wish. Makes them fatter. 3 muffins equals 1 bread, 1 milk, 1 protein, and 1 fruit. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Makes 12. |
Iwmonn-I wouldn't exactly call pumpkin a "carb bargain" like raspberries, strawberries or blackberries, but I think it is an exceptable amount for 1 serving. You can make your own judgement call on that from the recipes above. You just can't eat half a pumpkin in a day. I'm not sure you'd want to either.
BTW, did anyone actually get The Four Corners Diet book yet? One of the secretaries at work is reading it and she is loving it. |
Drum roll please!! I lost 3 lbs this week. I may make my Halloween goal after all. Onederland, here I come!
|
:cheer: Go Petra! :cheer: that is AWESOME!!!

Personal Inventory
Good Morning Everyone:
Petra - you absolutely hit the nail on the head. Those are exactly my issues. I am an overweater, and it is the refined sugar. Years ago, my father went to an inpatient 6-month treatment program for those very same things, and many others, which he had made changes for life. I had a long talk with him last night, because I basically am walking in his footsteps. He asked me to do the sugar test. I don't know how many of you are familiar with this, he used to have my sister and I do this every once in a while just to show what we are doing to ourselves. Anyway, you pour your hand full of real granulated sugar, and make a fist, not tight, just enough to hang on the the sugar, then place your arm out to the side. Your arm will grow heavy very quickly and begin to drop because of the effect of the sugar . I forgot how eye opening that is. He gave me the number of a lady he went through treatment with, as they still keep in contact, and she runs one of the local OA groups in our city, and told me when I am ready, to give her a call...and take a step towards changing my life. Back to square-one. I need to make baby steps, and just change back 1 thing at a time. God bless you all, and I will post soon, Congrats to all the losers on your turkey take-off!!, and for all the things you do each day, that make you who you are. Hats off to you all. Love & Hugs, L2L |
Hi Everyone,
TGIF!! I had to take a few hours off this moring to get some of my out of work things done. I don't know why but I can't seem to get everything done lately and I'm feeling overwhelmed. All these yummy pumpkin recipies, I'll have to try some. My son has a few of the small pumkins but I dont' think he will let me cook them, we will probably carve them so I'll have to get some just for cooking. What do you guys think about using the canned stuff is it just as good? So this week I have been really good. Eating just what I should, excersisng, but for some reason, the scale is saying I've gained a lot. My official WI isn't til Sunday so maybe its water or something, hopefully. Petra yeah!!! You did so well. 3 Pounds that is great. I know you'll beat me to Onderland but I'll get there soon. L2L- It sounds like you are ready to take that big step. I have a big problem with sugar as well. I have to just stay away from it. which is so hard. I'm going to try that sugar test just to see what it does. Iwmonn- new car! that is so cool. I want a new car, I've always had VW but I think my next car (probaly not for a few years so this might change) will be a PT Cruiser, they are very afordable and comfy I'll keep dreaming. Angel- I want to go to isoball class. I love classes that make you sore and all. I did kickboxing last night hopefully I'll feel it, that is how I know I'm doing the right things. Lisa, Zoey, Dee, TEB, Turtle, and everyone else, Have a good friday and stay OP. Jennie |
Iwmonn....Congratulations on your new car!!! I love Honda's!! I've owned 2 so far and they've been really good to me and very easy for servicing. Love the new car smell.
Petra..... :cb: WOOHOO :cb: Way to go...another 3 lb loss!!! Keep it up and you WILL be in onderland soon. Awesome job!! Jennie.....I would think that the pumpkin can stuff would be just the same without all the hard work!! I read a little trick this morning.....after carving your pumpkin, sprinkly the insides with cinnimon and nutmeg and it will smell nice when the candle burns!! Kinda neat. Lisa.....How is the sewing coming? Didn't you need to have it ready for a recital tommorow? Good luck!! L2L.....I have never heard of the sugar test!! What happens if your hand/arm doesn't fall by your side? You take your time and do what is best for YOU....it will all work out. We are here for you. {{hugs}} |

L2L- I'm glad I was able to be helpful. Realizing that I was addicted to sugar was one of those AHA! moments for me this time around. Thinking that I can have an occasional cookie or brownie or whatever is just like an alcoholic thinking they can have an occasional beer. It inevitably leads to more and the next thing I know, I have fallen off the wagon and have gained half my weight back. Like all addicts, I have to abstain from my drug of choice. May sound harsh but for me I do believe it is the only way I am going to win this battle. Fortunately, splenda and sugar alcohols don't seem to have the same effect on me so I can have an occasional treat without falling off the wagon. I guess it's sort of like the alcoholic having an O'Douls.
Deerod-cleaning out the kitchen is an important first step. I did that when I started this last spring. I gave all my high carb junk to the food bank. You can't eat it if it isn't in the house. Lisa-thanks for the words of inspiration. This is completely off topic but I'm going to tell you something sort of poignant about my job. I made a house call today. I usually only do this for my patients who are on hospice care but I did this as a favor to a geriatrician in the community that I know. I went to see a lady who is only one year older than my mother but she has such severe dementia she doesn't even know her children's names anymore. We showed her her wedding picture while I was there and she didn't recognize it despite the fact she had been married to her husband for over 50 years. She was very sweet and kept telling me how pretty I am, LOL. Mostly she babbled incoherently the whole time I was there. Her children are taking care of her at home, God bless them. I can't imagine my parents in that state and hope I don't have to see it. It really struck me because she is so close in age to my mother--that could be my family! I see demented patients all the time but have never really been able to put myself in the family's place quite like this before, seeing them in their home and all. Obviously, it made a big impression on me. |
OMGosh! I literally got so excited reading the Jillian Michaels thread, I put my clothes back on and went to the bookstore and got her book. Does anyone else have it? I hope I like it better than the Denise Austin book! I think I should start a diet book of the month club, LMAO!

Winning By Losing
I see I'm being quite the loud mouth here lately.
I'm going to give you guys the Dr. Mary review of the book, at least so far. I read the first two sections last night. I give it two thumbs up! She has divided the book into three sections, Self, Science, and Sweat. In the first part, she talks about some of the psychological stuff that gets people into their weight problems and keeps them there. There are some biggies she omits but she deserves a lot of credit for even including as much as she does. Most diet books don't even try to do this. In the science section she recommends metabolic typing yourself as either a slow oxidizer, a fast oxidizer or a balanced oxidizer. Then choosing a diet that is best for you based on your metabolic type. This is very similar to Diana Schwarzbein's principles. In fact, you could probably figure out how these two correspond if you wanted to take the time to do it. I can tell you off the bat that the diet she recommends for balanced oxidizers is The Zone. Metabolic typing is still somewhat controversial but just based on what I have seen in clinical practice, we all know that not all diets work equally well for everyone even if they stick to them, so there probably is some truth to this. I haven't lost weight very quickly on low carb despite my faithfulness to it while I'm sure many of you know people who just about melted away on low carb diets. Certainly, not everyone is insulin resistant, and even those that are don't have the same amount of insulin resistance. You get the idea. The last section of the book which I've only browsed so far is Sweat, or her exercise program. Here she differs significant from Diana Schwarzbein! It appears to be intense and in fact, I might have to hire a personal trainer to learn to do it properly if I were to follow her complete program. Maybe others could do this on their own. The big difference between this and the Schwazbein principle from what I can tell is that Jillian is definately selling a weight loss program and Dr. Schwarzbein will tell you that she is not (she is selling a holistic approach to health) and that Jillian's book is much more to the point. In fact, if you want more info on some of things Jillian browses over, the best source would be Dr. Schwarzbein. I wouldn't be surprised if they know each other. I think I should tell Suzanne I like this book after shredding Denise Austin last month. |
Good Morning everyone!! What a gorgeous day. I was up and out of the house this morning by 7:45 heading to the gym. I had a great treadmill workout and then stayed for the body sculpting class. There is something to be said for all this excercising early in the morning!!! I feel so alive and pumped!!! :cb:
Petra......If you read the posts on Jillian's thread; you can't help but get pumped and excited. EVERYONE there is on fire!!! :flame: This book is catching on like so fast. Quite the thing, and whats really neat....is Jillian herself actually posts the odd time to comment or correct a statement from her book. VERY COOL!!! If I'm out Barnes Noble way today, I'm going to take a peak also. COME OUT COME OUT WHERE EVER YOU ARE??? What's going on? :yikes: Where is everyone? Hotcup, Zoey, Curly, Jackie, L2L, Dee, Iwmonn, Lisa2, Mom, Jennie....did I miss anyone?? WE WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!!! |
hi there!
i've been to the grocery store.. and the library.. put jillian's book on reserve... but i did find the four corners book... and a sugar busters boook, as well as a book called protein power... it looks like it will be a good one.. i really wanna just kick back and read my books.. but i deel guilty cuz poor chai hasnt had his stroll yet today.. ( not to mention the house looks like a tornado ripped thru) so i think we will head out for a walk.. then i can read my books and not feel guilty lol and later tonite i am gonna make the pumpkin muffins.. that way i can warm up the house also! |
Curly-you know I am a protein power girl, don't you? However, the more I read, the more I think that four corners diet is really a nice middle of the road plan. I was looking at the zone again today and boy is that a complicated diet but I have to say Barry Sears is a freakin genius!

O i am lovin this book>>>> "protein Power" by michael Eades. they have calculations to figure out how many pounds of fat are actually on your body according to your waist and hip measurements, your body fat percentage, along with your height, and age ..... DRUM ROLL PLEASE... according to these calculations my goal weight is @ 175 lbs which means i have 65 lbs of fat now to lose..
and my body fat percentage now is 27% which means even tho the scale hasnt dropped way down.. all the exercise has made me build muscle !! wooo hoo! |
I have the original and the second one "Protein Power Lifeplan" Now you will know all my secrets, LMAO!!
BTW, how's the L-carnitine going? |
Curly....Just how do you figure out your percentage of body fat? Don't you need one of those electronic caliper things?
The gym that I go to is having a special month program. The details are many, but the biggest one is a money back gurantee ($20 for one month) if you attend so many classes and 'check in' with the dietician. So I asked the front desk person....."what calculations do they do?". She proceeds to tell me the body fat, BMI, weight, and one other. I ask if I can do the body fat and BMI....and she says no. You have to belong to the 30day special program. I tell her.....I'm a member of the 3 year sign away your life automatic withdrawl PROGRAM!!! She didn't find that funny and said she would ask the manager, but hasn't gotten back to me. HOLY COW!!! :?: |
