Default Anyone doing Sugar Busters?

Is there anyone here that is doing Sugar Busters? I think I have got to try this.I have got to get the white stuff out of my diet. Any advice on this way of eating would be helpful. Thanks, Patricia

Yes I am and so are the people on here. Some change it around a tiny bit. Staying away from the white stuff is great. And picking lower GI foods too.

Hello! Today was Weigh in Wednesday. I stayed the same. I was hoping for a loss, but maybe next week!

Today was Open Pool Day here, and I have a ton of moms and kids in the pool. I love it, but it wipes me out! They all were gone by 4, and I just vegged until Tom got home. Then I had to go into over drive figuring out a quick dinner. I broiled a couple Dr. Praegger's patties for me, and made Tom curried chicken patties.

PATRICIA: I do a vegan Sugarbusters... I watch the GI of foods, but I am following a special program that is supposed to help Type 2 diabetes. We have a few on vacation right now, but there are a small handful of us who are the old Sugar Busters crew. A few years ago, when SB was popular, we had our own large forum area. They down graded us when our numbers dwindled. Its a nice group, so I hope you will join us. As a diabetic I am totally sold on the concept of Sugarbusters. I learned about it years ago from my doctor. (the best doctor I ever had! Wish I could still go to him!) Give it a try! I seriously think it is the best diet for health. Its not too complicated to follow. You just avoid white flour, white rice, white potatoes, beets, and corn. And of course sugar. Don't eat anything that has more than 3 grams of sugar per serving. You can have brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat flour in moderation. You can find a list of the glycemic index of foods on line. Mendosa's website has one. Choose foods that are low in GI. Beans and lentils are good- chana dal, a type of chickpea is really low, high in protein and filling. Most veggies are low. Fruits you have to watch. Bananas, pineapples, watermelon are high. They convert to sugar in the blood stream very quickly and raise insulin levels. Berries, peaches, apples are better. Feel free to ask questions...we love to help!

TONI: Do a web search for your area for farmers with pick your own, or farm stands where you can get fresh produce. You don't live in a big metropolitan area, so you should be able to find some. I live in a very urban area, yet there are TONS of places to go for fresh produce all around me. Most farm bureaus post the info, and there are Pick Your Own websites galore. Good luck! Most of the pick your own places will also pick it for you for a slightly higher price.

Oh darn I forgot to weigh in. I'm kind of not looking forward to it. I've had a rough week and made poor choices. I did get lots done today. Including the laundry. Tomorrow I have some bell peppers to chop and put in the freezer.

Ellen- Staying the same was good. I guess you had a really busy day with all the swimmers. How nice of you to do that. We don't have a farmers market close by. You would have to drive quite aways. I did luck out and some friends are having us water there garden while they're away a couple of weeks in return for produce. I can't wait.

Its really hot here with no rain for us..... Its so very dry.

Morning! I got up early and walked today. I am trying to psych myself into getting into the habit of doing that every morning again. I need it. I made a tofu scramble for breakfast with onions and mushrooms and some nutritional yeast. It was better than I thought it would be! I put half of it in the fridge for tomorrow's breakfast. I think I need some toast or something with it, so I will have an elevensies in a bit!

I am having some computer/internet issues...things are not loading very quickly. Drives me nuts! (oh, wait...that is just a short walk for me...)

TONI: Check online! There may be farms around you that you don't even know about. Seriously! I could not believe the places I found when I was looking online. There were small family farms where you could go that have no signs up, they just advertise on the farm bureau web sites.

Ellen- That you I found a place about 40 minutes from here. Hope I get to try it soon. Thank you so much for the information. That site you found is loaded with good stuff. I need to get up and walk on the treadmill and get in a routine too. Its just to hot out to try it here. And will be like that for a couple of months. Do you still go for your swimming work out?

Well I weighed today and am up a lb. Darn it..... I knew it wasn't going to be to good. Another week now to do right.

Hi Ladies!

I am still around. I was on vacation for 2 weeks and got some rest. I went to the Dr. yesterday and all of my numbers are great except my A1c. This is crazy for me. I walk 3.6 miles 4 days a week. I am getting frustrated. I decided along with my doctor to watch everything I eat and to write it down. She gave me some suggestions hoe to change my meds around. I was having lows because of all the walking but I have lost weight and everything else has improved dramatically. I am going to start to exercise everyday except Sundays and see what happens. Sorry to get on here and rant. I just needed to share. I hope all is well with everyone hee. I will talk to you ladies later.

TONI: Since I did not have a car, I have not been going to the aquatic center for the class, but I HAVE been spending 30 or so minutes doing a workout in my pool.
MERCEE: I hear ya on the frustrations of the A1C. I was eating only lean meats and veggies and my blood sugar was still climbing. I hate the vegan low fat diet, but I have to admit it has helped me. Not as dramatically as I could hope for, but I am giving it a chance for a few more months. If nothing else, the walking and weight loss you are doing will help. Hang in there!

Default Shame shame shame

I can not seem to get it right this year. As you can see from the ticker I"m up a LOT. I'm gonna try to catch up with everyone and be a good participant yet again. ((Everybody))

By the way you can't imagine how hard it was to put that number on my ticker. A far cry from the 149 when I joined the group years ago.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Come on, ladies! You can do it! You recognize the problem, and want to make progress. Pat yourselves on the back and start moving forward. My father in law used to say, "Can't never could do nothin'!" when his kids would say 'I can't!'. Here is the thing- if what you are doing isn't working, change it up! Are you bored with what you are eating? Scour the internet for new recipes to try. Are you overly tempted by foods you can't have that are in the house for the family?? Don't buy them! They don't need unhealthy stuff either. Plan meals. Pull out a piece of paper and write in one column what you have on hand, then make meals to use that stuff in another. Post it on the fridge. It helps me to rotate stock, and not spend too much on groceries. Tell yourself, nothing tastes as good as thin feels. And move. Walk in the early morning hours when its cool. (I can say that cause I went for a walk the last two days...I need to keep taking my own advice there.) I am not an expert, and look how long I have been at it with only moderate results. What really is a motivator for me is the horrible health issues that are starting for me. I wish I had started addressing these things ten years ago in a real fashion...or even 15. Instead I played at Atkins, and justified eating bacon, and olive oil. I just hope I am not too late to see real improvement.

Ok, off the soap box. Love you two, and I want to see you happy and successful.

Got in another walk today. Having internet problems helped. There is nothing else I want to do but play a few games on Facebook, and I can't. I guess I ought to clean the house, and work on my new studio room. Wah! I have crops wasting online though....

Good morning. We were totally blessed yesterday with some fine rain. We're in a drought here in my town and we got some wonderful wetness. Not allot but some that wet the ground. Its a little over cast today, so here's hopeing. We had taco salads for dinner last night. I used light sour cream and only the salsa for the dressing.

Ellen- Thank you so much for the talk. You are right and I was so on track but have wondered off so it was like a kick in the pants to hear you. Back to eating right. Today I'm making a healthy macaroni salad with whole wheat pasta. So I'll have something as a side for our grilling this week end. You are doing great on the walking. Keep up the good work. Sorry about your Internet or computer being slow. Save those crops.....

Crystle- Hang in there with me girlfriend. Just keep coming here. That's the important thing.

Mercee- Been missing you. I wondered where you were. Sorry you're having trouble.

Well going to drink my coffee. Have a good day....

Default Good afternoon.

Not a lot to talk about today. Trying to move more and eat better. I did enjoy a nice hot piece of sourdough bread this afternoon. I had a fried egg sandwich made with one slice of bread for breakfast. A serving of meatloaf for lunch and the the bread a short bit ago. Drink as been coffee and one coffee milk made with skim milk.

There are sweet cakes in the house and I have ZERO urge to mess with them and haven't since they have been here. Now the chips that were in the house, a whole nother story. Salty foods are such a weakness for me. As much as I would like to not bring them in he house that is truly not an option. I just have to use self control and not take the first bite as I know they are triggers. Even eating correctly it is getting harder and harder to maintain my weight. Not sure if it is age or from poor eating habits over the years. Oh well, I guess I'll figure it out if I truly eat correctly for more than a day or two in a row.

Toni...so glad you finally got some rain. With the tropical things that came in below Texas we have had a lot of rain the last couple of weeks. But no complaints. We were getting close to drought conditions.

Ellen..awesome on your cucumbers. Do you ever make refrigerator pickles out of them? I love them with balsamic vinegar and a bit of agave or sugar and just let them sit for a few hours. Yum yum.

Hi Particia! Sugar Buster is a great way to eat. When I was on plan and doing things the right way I lost 85 pounds and kept it off for over 4 years and then I blew it. One suggestion that I have is be strict without little cheats as they will only set you back. Of course everyone is different. God bless and hope this works for you.

Solly...how are you?

Love and hugs,
Crystle
