  • Andrea - that's a tuff one...control does kinda go out the window after a couple drinks...maybe try keeping it to one and plan what you are going to eat before you start drinking?

That's kinda hard, too with the kind of grub people have at bars and parties and such...drink lots of water before, try and keep the calorie count down before you go so you have some calories left at the end of the day...hit the gym before, too?

There is nothing wrong with relaxing the rules every once in a while. All work and no play....etc.

    sorry about the student.

Fall is one of my fav times to ride, too...along with spring, summer and winter when it's warm and not raining
  • Hi All I have been reading your posts for hours and you all sound like so much fun. I am always excited to talk to other ladies who love to ride! The guys all call me mom so I am premantly stuck with the nick name. I have a 1997 HD Road King. I tell my hubby it is like riding the cadillac. I am spoiled now that I am getting older I don't like the feel of all the bumps and such in the road. You still get that vibration with a Harley no matter what! I live in Colorado so we don't have helment laws here but I usually wear one for saftey sake. I got a bump on my head the size of a softball several years back after an accident and don't want that again. My dh and I have twin daughters who are 14 years old soon to be 15. So one rides behind myself the other behind thier Dad. We take them almost everywhere we go on rides. I like the long 8 hour rides although you know you've been riding after that many miles in a day. Did Sturgis and 4 corners this summer. What a blast. Dh is old school and loves to ride we have 4 scoots in the garage. Mine, dh has two, and 21 year old son owns his own HD. We are a riding family. I can remember a time when you just didn't see women on motorcycles. I have seen it more often in the last 2 years than ever before. You go girls!!!!! I have been doing JC (Jenni Craig) now for 8 weeks and have lost 25 lbs. I still have 80 more to go but I am working my way down. It has been a great start and I am hoping just to keep the scale in the down ward motion. I need to increase my activity but I am having a hard time with that part. I love reading about your sucesses and failures! I hope to send more posts in the near future and read all your lovely posts too.

Keep the wind in your face and stay upright ladies! Have a good one. Donna
  • Welcome Harleymom! I'm pretty new to 3FC as well - but the chicks here are great!

Congrats on 25 lbs...you are well on your way to your goal!

I second you on the importance of the vibration factor...if more women knew about it they would be riding as well (tongue firmly planted in cheek)...
  • Hey HarleyMom! I'd really really like a VRod! I can't beleive there are places where you don't have to wear a helmet! I couldn't imagine NOT wearing one! There are so many on the road!

Oooh good vibrations! I only noticed with my Rebel - never used to get it on my NS!

Andrea and I guess with the drinking I can't really help cos I cut it out completely when I was 17. Maybe try going cold turkey for a day! It's refreshing! I know I can just get "merry" on the atmosphere if I'm out with other people drinking!

Oh my! Lacrosse yesterday - remember my post about school changing rooms and the like! Well playing lacrosse was JUST like being at school! I was the worst! Hooray! We played a small game after random left-handed training and I think I got the ball once! The other girls there are TOTAL "games captain" types and they were all obviously really good at it when they were at school!
I'm not up for playing in matches yet - although there's not many people so they really do need me! But I will go back next week, even though I'm the worst and even though it reminds me of school and even though they're really really girlie girls! I will do it, because I have been wanting to do it for a couple of years and if I don't I will regret not going! Also it's a great workout - and hopefully it will build up my running stamina which is sorely lacking!
  • Welcome HarleyMom......glad you like our thread...
Wow my husband wants a Road King, he has a Ultra Classic now. I have a Dyna Low Rider , 97 same year as yours.
My hubby wants to go to Sturgis next year. some of our friends are going, some bikes are gonna be trailered and some are riding all the way (from Michigan). I am still thinking it I want to deal with helmet hair for 3 days of riding. Plus one couple is taking their 12 year old grandson along. I'm still undecided.
We did go to Milwaukee for Harleys' 100 anniversary afew years ago, that was a blast. But we went thru the UP to get there and took our time.
I too remember when not many women rode. I learned to ride on a Triumph in 69 back in Phoenix. The cops use to stop me just to check me out.....it was funny!
have to run, talk to ya'll later.
  • Good morning ladies!

Welcome HarleyMom! We're so glad you joined our little thread here. I agree, I have noticed a ton more women riders in the past few years than ever before. I think that's really great that your family is into riding together. Its fun to share that time with those closest to you. My husband has been riding for over 30 years and I am just learning. I have an '85 Honda Rebel, but I STILL don't have my license yet. I practice (shoosh...don't tel the police!) going around a few blocks in my neighborhood.

Gina- You are so right about the awful foods at bars. One place we go to advertises it's chips as healthy because they are made of sweet potatoes (not white), but they are still fried! lol. Normally, if they serve food you can find a salad that's decent, but its just brain (at that point) doesn't want salad.

I decided that I would just order Diet Coke when we go out with friends for the next several weeks, then maybe allow myself some drinkage on Halloween! I can go without drinking...its not a huge deal...its just that it can be fun, but...hey...I'm a natural born PARTY GIRL and I don't have to have the booze to make me fun.

    Good morning Star!
  • Rebel: "I'm a natural born PARTY GIRL and I don't have to have the booze to make me fun."

Let me say AMEN to that sister.......you rock!
  • Sometimes it's more fun to be the sober one - you get to laugh at the drunks...
  • Hat Chick - good point. I remember all too well, when I quit drinking but still hung out with the drinkers, I got bored of listening to the same stories over and over.....lol
  • Star - Wow back in 69 riding you go girl! I have a picture of my aunt on an old triumph back then and she was diffently a rebel back then. I love it! I think some people still get a raise out of seeing women on a bike. Especially when you ride a HD. It is apparent I am a women with my fire engine red hair (it is from a box these days) going down my back blowing all over the place as I ride down the road. The guys that ride with me say it looks like fire going down the road. You might be a little older than I am as I was not of riding age in 69. I started in the very early 80's. Your only as old as you act though so you keep acting young and it will be sooo! My hubby wants an Ultra and yours wants the Road King. Thier never happy with what they have. Boys and their toys.

    2Frustrated-
Yep no helement laws in Colorado. I mean non kids aren't even required to wear them. I think there are only 3 other states in the US that don't have any helement laws. A VRod hey do you have a need for speed or do you like the sleek look of it? It is a beauty! You'll get plently of vibration on that one! Wow you play Lacrosse I am interested in learning more about that sport as it looks like fun. It is not a big sport here but several of the high schools do play. I am trying to talk my daughters into giving it a try this year. Girlie girls is right, they wear skirts to play in for cry'n out loud. Don't give up on it and have fun with it!

    Gina-
A lot of women are so afraid of the machine you just become one with it and there is no other feeling like it. It is a feeling of freedom like non other. Right about the vibration factor as an added plus Thanks for the congrats on weight loss.

    Rebel-
I am with you who has to party tell you and do things you might regert later. I don't care what people think of me but I do care how I might feel the next day. My JC consultant told me that drinking is the biggest weight gain people have because they don't realize how many empty calories there drinking. I always order a diet coke when I go to the poker runs or what ever we might me doing. Water is even better sometimes becasue you get so darned dyhadrated on rides. I also don't want to be inpaired when I am riding. They just changed the laws here in CO and you can get a DUI for one drink now. My son is a fireman and the department warned all those boys not to drink at all and drive if they want to keep there jobs. I know there are times when your not driving and go to a party and want to have fun but I think when your trying to lose weight it is almost best just to aviod the acholic beverages for the most part. I love that your starting to ride. Have you thought about taking a course. They are so good and teach all the safety factors. They have gotten a little steep in price here but I think it is well worth it. A Rebel is a prefect thing to start on. You don't want to start on the full dresser and crash that puppy. My DH says there are two kind of riders those that have crashed and those that are going to crash. Don't ever let fear keep you from riding. Go get your M endorsement and hit the roads.

Thanks all for the big warm welcomes
Keep the wind in your faces and Stay Upright!
  • HarleyMom- I am super psyched now about the motorcycle safety course. At first I was afraid b/c I could only ride around the backyard in first gear. Now, I know how to shift gears. Or I should say did. It's been awhile since I've been on my bike and that is really a shame b/c once I learn something it doesn't become as ingrained into my head like it needs to be. My goal now is to take the course this coming spring. I was going to do it this fall, but with my Dh being laid off...money's a little tight now. I figure by then there will be excuses. It gives me plenty of time to save up for it. In fact, I think that after work this evening I might go for a little refresher spin on it...
  • Harleymom,
oh yes, I'm the oldest chick on this thread by far and **** maybe on the whole site. I don't know how I got to be this big number, but it is only a number. My picture is in my profile.....
Guys still do make a big deal about chick riders. Everytime my hubby see's a girl on a bike he goes "Biker Chick" real loud.....so then I started saying "Biker Dude" everytime....lol
Like you I would never drink and ride - no way! I like to have all my marbles rolling in unison...lol
I think my DH is on his way over here to my work on his bike right now. It is 74 and sunny out - really awesome riding weather....
    later..

P.S. I just looked at my profile picture - there I am, the non-drinker with a huge strawberry margarita as big as my head......
  • Star - i reckon attitude-wise yer still a kid...just smarter...that's too funny about the profile pic. You are lovely BTW.
  • Hat Chick -
Thanks for the compliment - when I first started posting on 3 fat chicks we were always joking about how much we had to drink (water).....so the picture fit..lol

Hey, I can't remember, besides being older than dirt I'm also blonde. How did you lose all your weight?

I'm on LAWL, still have 15 pounds to go and I am sooooooooo stuck.....
  • Biker Babes - Don't forget - Biggest Loser comes on tonight.......see ya'll tomorrow - bye
