Just back from the run, and it was lovely. 62 and cloudy with the slightest breeze. However, it is very apparent that I need to do it out there more often. I am a total cheater on the treadmill. I stopped before I could have because I realized that continuing would be a detriment to my overall ability to walk tomorrow. I probably got in a mile straight and some other shorter for a total of 1.75. I need to look at mapmyrun again and see where my mile markers are.

Good morning ladies. I weighed myself this morning a I lost a pound......of course it's the day AFTER weigh in!! Grrr.....sorry. I think when I work 2 twelve hour days, I don't drink enough and I retain water. Damn work!

I took my 15 year old to the doctor yesterday, they put her on concerta...which is a med for ADD. I refused to put her on medication all these years because I thought I could help her control her impulsive behavior and lack of focus on my own. I have literally cut my hours in half to be home with her, but she is still failing school and making bad choices. It killed me to finally give in after all this time of trying alternative methods. I think some of the reason is my ego, like putting her on medication meant I couldn't fix my own daughter. I think I saw it as a failure on my part. Especially after seeing ADD meds passed out like candy by the doctors when I worked in our clinic. I don't know....I just hope this helps her. She is otherwise a great kid and has started doing my couch to 5k training with me to keep me motivated.

vixjean: OMG...that book is huge....do you have to study that whole thing? Yikes! Good luck.

Onthetee: LOL....your post about the treadmill made me laugh. I can't wait for this miserable weather to go away and for spring to finally get here. I want to go outside and walk/run! The other day this guy was on the treadmill beside me and he stunk of armpit!! I mean ....BAD!! I just want to walk outside and listen to the birds, but it won't stop RAINING!! Grr.

Ginger: Kids are like human petri dishes! They bring EVERYTHING home to us! Gotta love em! Hope you get better soon.

DixieDieter: Hey, did you ever go to that restaurant in Alabama where they throw the rolls at you? Lamberts? OMG... my Dad took us there last year and the food was so good. He has a house in Pensecola that his MIL lives in part of the time (my parent's are obviously divorced) and a house in Dauphin Island, Alabama that he lives in. I love it down there, and we will probably go down to visit sometime this year. We won't go in August like last time though, because the air feels like someone is holding a wet towel over your face! OMG...I have never felt humidity like that, even when we went to the Bahamas. Does it bother you?

Chellez: I'll be on the lookout for the book and I'll get yours out to you today or tomorrow. You should put a disclaimer on it since it seems to get everyone all hot and steamy!! Thanks again.

Rhonda: 7 chapters! Either you are a speed reader or that book is one of those that you can't put down! Your husband must love you reading these steamy books! I can't wait to get mine.
I can so relate to you about the exercise....I swear, I spend more time thinking about going. If I would just get up and get dressed and do it I'd be fine, but I put it off and then I force myself to go. Once I'm there I'm fine and I actually enjoy the time alone. Lately, I put out my workout clothes the night before so I see them first thing in the morning and that helps.

missingmyerica, try not to feel bad. Remember that some people, even some children/teens, have a true chemical imbalance and these medications are literally lifesavers for them! IMO there's no sense struggling with something if there is a medication that can help you (assuming the side effects are not too terrible). I hope it helps your daughter.

I maintained last week. I think I actually gained because of hormonal stuff, but then lost because I got really suddenly sick Sunday night, so it evened out overall.

I'm struggling to find time to work out. Those of you who are SAHMs, when you exercise? My husband is in grad school FT and works FT so he is gone a lot. If I wanted to work out in the early morning I'd have to get up about 4 a.m. to do it. I used to be able to exercise during my younger 2's nap time (and let the oldest play pbskids.org or starfall while I exercised) but now my 2 year old is thinking he no longer needs a nap. And I'm inclined to agree because he doesn't sleep well at night if he's had a nap during the day.

Will exercising late at night (after kids are in bed) make it hard for me to sleep? How long do I need to wait before bed time after exercising?

Hmm... I mailed it Thursday so I would think it should have shown up by now. Maybe it'll come today.

I hope so... I don't want the mail man stealing my books!

Good morning, Blueser!

This is the first workday morning in quite a while that I've been bright eyed and bushy tailed. I actually went to bed early last night and got a full 8 hours of sleep. Wow...I can't believe the difference that sleep makes in how I view my world in the morning! I'm getting tons of work finished and I'm actually looking forward to working out today. Maybe this night owl needs to change her feathers.

Tina - I'm sorry that you've decided to stay on the "dark side."
Ginger - You should be very proud of losing 15 pounds! Congratulations.
Lisa - Congratulations on your pound loss! Better late than never, right?
Heather - I hope you find the time to work out. Hopefully, some of the SAHM's here will have some great suggestions

Hope everyone has a great on-plan day. I'll check in later for some chat time.

Chellez: I'll message you the minute it arrives. The mailman could probably feel the heat through the package and is sitting this very minute on a pile of mail reading the book and getting all worked up!!

I am with you on the ADD culture, but worst case is that it does not work and you take her off and try something else. Best case is that it is just what she needs. If she were younger, I would question the MD's motive, but at 15, it may just be time to see if this helps.

My dad goes golfing in MS every year and they stop at Lambert's on the way home.

Not easy. I have had to do a variety of things.

For a while, I tried to get up early to walk, but Pooky was still nursing, so that went back and forth. I finally had to join the cheap gym and go right after dinner while DH was doing his nightly things with the kids. It was only three nights a week and weekends. (DH works two jobs and has a million other projects going.) I had to say, "We need to make this a priority, when can you watch the kids?" He said Monday, Wed and Th nights.

Can you join HPER as a spouse?

I had to accept and convince DH that I was not going to ever work out if I was home. I had to physically leave. And he had to understand that while all of his time suckers were important, my health was important too. I have no problem using guilt, "When I am dead and you are living alone in the retirement home, remember that you took minutes off my life because I did not get to exercise."

I also hired a neighbor to come for an hour two afternoons a week.

When the weather was warm, I used my walk to get Meara to sleep. I put her in the stroller about 15 minutes before I wanted her to sleep, then I let her fall asleep and I finished my three miles.

At least when it warms up in a few weeks, you will have a lovely city in which to walk.

I am having a weird hormone thing. I was expecting to ovulate this weekend, and everything seemed ready for that. All the signs were there. Then I woke up this morning with three of my very reliable PMS symptoms. Either I am going to have 10 days of PMS....fun for the whole family....or I am having peri-menopausal symptoms which just ticks me off.

Hey, Chellez...Did you get my PM saying I got your PM saying you were writing me a PM? That sounds funny, funnier to anyone else, but I am sure it will make sense to you.

What's up, girlie?

Here's the NSV Scale-free challenge I started, for those who are interested in celebrating all the changes we are making that aren't related to numbers on a scale! There's no reason we can't participate in many types of challenges, and so many people expressed they wanted a way to not focus just on the numbers on a scale as a measure of worth and progress.

Lisa- I hope your DD gets some relief from the meds. I've been both for and against medicating children for ADD and such, and I think since you've tried other methods of helping her, that trying the meds is a good plan.

I get so angry at parents I've known who drag their kids to the doctor and demand the ADD meds when the core problem is something else entirely. Gee Mom and Dad, Little Johnny has had 6 sodas, 2 candy bars and some cake today, you say he's hyper and needs Ritalin? These were good kids who had almost no supervision and the parents didn't discourage bad behavior or lousy eating habits. I don't think meds are going to solve the problem there, unless they medicated the kid into a coma. (Okay, the child-free person is stepping off the soapbox, sorry )

I love Lambert's. Thankfully we rarely go over that way or I'd have even more to lose. I'd say you get used to the humidity, but you really don't. You just learn to avoid it. During the worst part of the summer I only go outside in the early morning or late evenings. Once I get to work, I stay in out of the heat for the most part. The first summer I lived here I called my mom and told her I'd inadvertently moved to Hades' steam room. The humidity does do wonders for my hair though. It went from board straight to wavy.

Anna - Good job getting in your run outside yesterday. I love to exercise outside.

Chellez- Your book is on it's way back. Thank you. I stayed up way too late last night reading. DH wants to know if it's even legal to send vampire porn thru the mail?

Go team!

DH just came in and read over my shoulder for a minute last night. It takes him forever to finish a book. Once I start I don't put it down until I'm done. I'm the only person I know whose parents took away her books as punishment instead of the phone or tv.

I'd be your friend but we can't download messengers at work.
