Hi Jenny, about the salads ... I'm pretty much eating 2 salads a day [one for lunch and one for supper.]

With the lunch one, I make a couple of veggie burgers and cut those up in it and also a slice of fat-free cheese, along with dressing.

As for my supper one, I usually just have the salad and dressing is all.

I'd actually thought of that [starvation mode] and figure that is why I haven't lost any in a few days but also then decided that it has to come off if I'm careful of what I eat, so ......

I won't add meat to the salad ['cuz I don't eat that stuff] but may consider getting some eggs and adding a boiled egg to it. [Good idea ... thanks, Karis!

I am so envious of you for having 2 horses, Karis - I love horses [I grew up with them] but don't live where I could have one now and also, wouldn't be able to afford to keep one either.

Well gals, gonna get for tonight but did want to add that I finally walked enough steps today to get a whole 1 mile to show up on my pedometer. Yippee!!

Have a good night, friends!

Love,

Jennelle

LadyJenelle - I'm no expert, but that sounds like you aren't getting enough calories (though I don't know how much the veggie burgers have in them), but I think you should be aiming for no less than 1200 cals/day. Also, one thing to consider is that your body gets used to a certain amount and then you'll start to maintain, then you have to go lower to lose. So, if you're only eating three salads per day, eventually, you'll need to eat less than that. It sounds like you're a vegetarian, am I right? If so, you might want to add some more veggies, beans, etc. I'm in no way trying to cut you down, and hope you don't take it as that. You've done a great job so far!

sirak - ah, Texas! Makes total sense why you're warming up. I hope you enjoy it now, before you're roasting.

My neice turned 1 recently, so we had her party to go to on Saturday. I did okay, all things considered, but I know I probably went over my points for the day. Which is fine, I still had all of my 35 flex points for the day. It was hard to guess at points. I guess that's why I like making my own food, I can figure it out a little easier. I had some stuff that I hadn't had in a while, but I had very small portions. A few bites of cheesey potatoes, a very small piece of cake and a very small scoop of icecream. Just enough to taste. Before, I'd have eaten a way too large portion of everything. I just wanted to taste things so that I didn't feel deprived. And, I didn't!

Down 1 pound for the week!

Good Morning Friends!

Well, I got up this a.m. and am down 1 pound from last week [needless to say, I'm happy about that! ]

Jenny, honey - I don't take that as cutting me down at all but as good advice from a concerned friend. [Thank you!]

And, you very well could be right about that because I know my caloric intake has most likely been under 1,000 calories a day.

I always estimate calories high so chances are - they are even under 1,000 a day.

As for my veggie burgers - they've each got, I think 160 calories in them [for the veggie chicken ones anyways which is what I cut up in my salad.]

Oh 'n yep, you're right - I guess I'd consider myself a vegetarian and the reason I am may sound silly but it's [now don't laugh! ] ...

'cuz the thought of eating something dead makes me sick just to even think about it. Eeeeew!

Have a good day everyone!

Love,

Jennelle

Well Lady J- One pound is ONE-derful ! It's better than gaining or eating salads all week and nothing on the scale changing !
The other thing I do with salads is that I make up a recipe of stuff I found over at Bootcamp Buddies and I use a cup of it on lettuce with 1 slice of cheese and an egg(plus salad dressing). It was called "Save My Life" salad- but it is more like "Save my Soul" as it has all these really good eye candy colors in it from the veggies. In a carrot and celery world it was a huge relief.
I measured out nine cups of the stuff and then ran the recipe through Mastercook.I am sharing it with everyone I know as it is so simple, but a nice change of pace.
If the figures are right there is only 107 calories per cup and it has 1 gram of fat. There is a whopping six grams of protein and 21 carbs- but it's big on dietary fiber(20% RDA/2000 calories). With the red bell pepper and the tomato it is rich in Vitamin C, which is a nice thing to have.
Beyond all the nutritional mumbo jumbo, it taste good. You could add dressing and take it as a dish to pass or serve it with Tex Mex instead of beans and rice.
My 13 year old son loves it and even my husband will eat it.

SMS Salad
(9) cups
2 large cucumber chopped
3 roma tomato seeded and chopped
3 stalks celery chopped
1/2 onion minced ( I used 4 green scallions as we have a bunch in the garden right now)
1/2 red bell pepper chopped
1/2 green bell pepper chopped
1 can black beans, rinsed
1 can corn, drained
Mix all together and put in a big bowl in the fridge. Drain as needed. Should keep for a week, if it does not get eaten before then.
I really like it hot- the cold weather is hard for me to cope with. As a child I was terrified of snow.I stood in a box and cried. It's hard on the animals and my garden last year barely survived, but I had tomatoes ripening in my window still until the day before Christmas. The fall garden was the best garden I had.I just did not plant enough onions.I'm getting ready to plant in the next week- I am doubling my size.
I saw 206 this morning- but it's not Thursday so it doesn't count.

Good day everyone!!

I survived my birthday! :P I didn't eat any chips or soda even though I did eat some extra stuff but I managed to stay under 1700 cal, is a bit high but then again, considering there was cake and pasta, I think I did ok. No walkig yesterday though, I was busy all day long.

Congratulations Jennelle! one pound is great! wow, less than 1000 cal? that sounds harsh, I aim for 1400-1500 and when I fall under 1400 I get so hungry!

I didn't like salads and didn't eat them 3 years ago, but now I'm becoming a salad expert hehe I like to add 1 tbs of dried cranberries, and some chopped nuts, but only a few. I found this great light salad dressing with cilantro flavor that is relly good and only 20 cal for 2 tablespoons which is great, it gives lots of flavor

I have to walk everyday this week to burn down that sunday cake, wish me luck! We'll se how it goes tomorrow at weight in.

Karis, thanks so much for the salad recipe ... it sounds really good!

My problem is that I'll have to find something to put in place of the black beans 'cuz for some reason - I don't think I could eat those.

It's kind of like when they had the "green" ketchup out ... eeeeew! *lol*

I know it's most likely the same taste but well - with it being green, there's just something that didn't seem right and no way could I eat it.

What is Mastercook - I'm thinking it may be a place to find out the caloric end of the salad? Just curious.

Way to go on the 206 [I hope it's there for Thursday's weigh-in [I'm sure it will be though! ]

Vega, good for you with being good on your birthday [by the way, I hope you had a nice one!]

Good luck with your walking ... that's something the past few days I've been lax on so guess I best ought to get on the ball, huh?

How's everybody else doing? I hope good!!

Love,

Jennelle

Black beans sound scary- but they are not so bad.My favorite black bean thing is rice, black beans, zucchini, cilantro and lime juice made into a cold salad- that stuff just gets me into trouble. Beans just get me into trouble. I did refried beans last night with a layer of sour cream, chedder cheese, tomatoes, olives and onions. They guys ate it with chips as a dip with enchiladas.I ate a salad .
It's those garbonzo things that make me run. I'm not sure about green ketchup- but fried green tomatoes and green tomato relish well- heck yeah !( not today I am on my diet).
Mastercook is a recipe program that acts as a database. You type recipes in it and collect other people's recipes. On the site where I moderate the food board we have a couple year's worth of recipe's done. It does alot of nifty things if you want to make grocery list or manage your food budget.
The really nice thing is when you type in a recipe it will give you the nutritional stuff like you see on the side of a can of green beans. It's not just calories, fat and carbs- but also micro nutrients. People on Weight Watchers use it to help them figure their points on stuff that is not in the book.
I tried to exercise some this morning, but the kids are playing chase so I am continuing with the mountain of laundry. I'm out of lettuce and abunch of other stuff so am thinking that soon I will need to make a run to Sam's.
Vega- I love those dried cranberies and walnuts on spinach salad. Tell me more about the salad dressing with Cilantro flavor ! Who makes it?( maybe I can find it over here at the import stores ) .

Good morning to you all!!

Just a small post tu brag a little, I went to my weakly weight in, and lost 2 puonds! *_* I'm so happy!! 5 more to go for Onederland

I just read an article about walking, I knew it was good for your health, but not that much :O

Walking can decrease osteoarthritis pain and improve stability, endurance, and agility, reduce the risk of colon cancer and possibly breast cancer, protect against diabetes in high-risk people and lower blood glucose and improve insulin action in people who already have the disease, lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack; also it helps reduce stress, and even helps your brian to think clearly, and all it takes is 30 min a day.

I won't skip my walkings anymore heheh well I'll try not to at least

Vega ... way to go!! I'm so happy for you. It feels great to have a good weigh-in, doesn't it?! Keep up the good work, sweetie!

Kiras, mmmm ... the refried beans and things that you made with it sound really good!

Fortunately I just ate my salad so didn't get hungry reading it.

While at Walmart today - I bought a dozen eggs and boiled some this evening and cut one up in my salad and it's amazing what a little thing like that can do to help change the taste of the salad.

To be honest, I was starting to get burned out with the salads but don't think I will now again for awhile.

It's funny 'cuz you were talking about calories and you didn't think I was getting enough ...

So, last night I thought after supper sometime that I'd make a couple of pancakes and eat them [with sugar-free syrup, of course] and I couldn't even go off my diet to do that. *lol*

I can't believe I am doing so good this time 'cuz trust me, before all the diets I've been on sure didn't last very long.

Vega - I didn't realize that walking did all of that either. Guess I ought to get busy 'n get walking, huh? *lol*

Love,

Jennelle

vega - way to go on the loss, you'll be in onderland soon!

jenelle - see, you did post a loss! I do think it's a good idea to think of ways to change up your routine a bit - I can't imagine surviving on salads forever, so different kinds would probably be a good thing.

sirak - hoping you see that same weight tomorrow (or lower!).

WI for me today, and I lost another 3 pounds! That makes me down 42 pounds since 12/27/06. I really thought that I might stay the same as we had a bday party on Saturday and I was just afraid that the food I ate was going to do me in, despite picking small pieces and smaller portions than I would have ever taken before! Thankfully, the scale moved this morning and I'm thrilled. Fifty pounds is suddenly looking very attainable.

Congratulations Jennylou! 3 lbs is great! Keep up the good job!!

I Didn't have a great day yesterday, I ate 3 slices of pizza, and even though I managed to keep my calories at 1500 I felt really bad, hada tummy ache last night. I haven't had any pizza since last year, I guess I'm not used to it anymore

Jenelle - thanks for the congrats. I've been taking the weight loss in small incriments. 2 pounds per week is my goal. And, I have many little mini goals. I never would have kept going in the beginning just thinking about that HUGE number. And that's just the first biig mini goal, I still have plenty more to lose!
