Wow, I've been away for just a couple of days and have missed way too much to try and catch up on.
I will say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Elvis! You've graduated, that is absolutely amazing and you're an inspiration to us all. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next and I really hope you stick around. I'm looking at doing a 10K app once I'm done, maybe you can look into that, or increasing your speed if you want!
As for me, I had an amazing weekend away. However I didn't get home until after 1am Sunday night so I was not a happy camper when my alarm went off at 6am after only 4 hours of sleep. It was all I could do to stay awake until 8pm last night, there was definitely no running. Instead I'm going to go out and do W7D1 (again) tonight. I don't know why, but I'm worried about this run and it's still 5 hours away!
I just finished W7D1 again and while I went much slower than last Wednesday I finished it. I went 100m shorter this go around so it wasn't much less but my average pace was 19 seconds slower/km. Oh well. During my 20 minute run I totalled 2.78km, but realized that my app wants me running 3K over that time. My next run is the exact same so I'm really hoping to give it my all and hit that 3K mark.
Good luck everyone and good job on getting as far as you have.

I redid W7D1 today and it was a success! I'm so happy! I wanted to quit a couple of times but I thought of you all and how happy I'd be to write that I did it!
I'm getting faster too, though still super slow. The last three runs were 8:31/km, 8:22/km and today 8:18/km. I want to get under 8:00 so I can hope to finish the 5K under 40 minutes.
I've just finished W1D3 so I'm still a newbie, but I love the run! I was always one of those people that thought runners were CRAZY! Never thought I'd turn into one! On my off days I have thoughts of putting on the shoes and getting out there! I know I shouldn't, so I've started walking or hiking on my off days instead. I'm so glad someone here suggested that I do this!
Wooo! I finished W2D1 yesterday. I have to turn my phone over on the treadmill or I am constantly watching the time. If I can't see it, I focus on something else and hardly notice that 90 seconds has passed. (OK the first a couple of 90 seconds runs maybe, but I felt every second of the rest lol) Going to do W2D2 today as it was a long weekend and I didn't make it to the gym on Monday!

I completed W9D2 today (yep, I know there is no such day but that's how I logged it in my journal LOL, I repeated W9D1!). Today's run was A.W.E.S.O.M.E. I don't know if it's because I'm a good runner now or if it was because I didn't "have" to run today since I'm done with the program or if it's because I just felt like running my heart out! Regardless of the reason, I loved loved loved it!
I'm not ready to try for a 10k yet as I don't have the distance part of this 5k up yet. I think next week I'll add on 3-4minutes and keep doing that each week until I get the distance up.
elvis, thank you! i cant wait to be where you are now! I am thinking of starting a 10k program after this but i got 4 more weeks to go and i don't want to jinx it!
I did w4d1 yesterday, and I feel like I'm starting to turn a corner. I was really apprehensive about 5 minute intervals, and the fact that the total run time jumped up to 16 minutes for this week, and by the end I was tired, but a good tired.
I've still got that 20 minute run staring me in the face at the end of w5, but for the first time since I "noticed" it was there, I think I can do it! Thanks all who post their progress here - it really helps to have virtual run buddies!

I was thinking about you this morning, fit dad, but I didn't want to call you out! I'm so glad you are doing great (and you are!).
How fast do you run? I was told by my doctor that slower is better than faster as far as a 5k is concerned (it's not a race, it's more important for us to build up our distance endurance vs. speed--I hope that makes sense the way I wrote it). I only run 3.8mph so fast walkers would do laps around me. The important part is I'm running/jogging.
Most of the 9 weeks of training I never read the lesson ahead of me, I just let the lady tell me when to walk and when to run (and yes, there were weeks that I got the bleep scared out of me!). I just kept telling myself all 9 weeks that I could switch to walking at absolutely any time I needed to if I had to. Guess what, I never stopped! But knowing I could made me more comfortable.
You can do this, look at how much you have done so far!! This time last year I couldn't walk 10 minutes at a time. Now I run for 30 at a time non-stop? Who says miracles can't happen?!?! I'm living (running!) proof!
I'm not sure of my mph, since I run outside, but by measuring the distance from one of my 5 minute run intervals, I can see that when I jog, I was going at a pace of about 11:30 per mile yesterday.
Yesterday, I really made an effort to slow my jog pace, take shorter strides, not land on my toes, swing my arms a little lower, and control my breathing. I got all of these "tips" from this thread and links people had posted, and I think it had a lot to do with my success yesterday, and my building confidence. As you say - it's not a race, and the build up and endurance is what's important (for me, at least).
I'm not going to lie and say I'm not anxious about the 20 minute run at the end of w5, but one step at a time! This is the first time in the program that I really feel I can do this. I've committed to the Color Run at the end of June, with my goal being to jog the entire time, and that goal is starting to seem achievable.
Angelic Fruitcake - Congrats on NOT stopping. I bet you felt super proud when you finished! I also have a goal of finishing a 5K in under 40 minutes. We'll get there.
Silverfire - I had a friend who started on the program with me and she watched her phone the whole time. No way can I do that! Haha. In fact, I don't even like knowing how long I'm going to run. I tell myself I have to 'TRUST' the voice, and just run when it tells me to run and walk when it tells me to walk, haha. Sounds kind of crazy, but it takes the guess work out of it.
elvislove - Good job on keeping it up even afte ryou have graduated the program. I definitely think that is a good goal to shoot for the 5K amount. Excited to see you get there! I have no doubts that you will!
My Update - Okay so did W3D2 today, and was a bit of a challenge, haha. Definitely wanted to quit a couple of times, but I kept going. I know one thing is I've beeing thinking about what is 'coming' as in 'OH GOD I HAVE TO RUN 3 MINUTES!' The first two weeks I litereally didn't even read the description of how long I would run or walk, and I think that really helped because I didn't psych myself out. So I've decided NOT to read the description of week 4, haha. I just don't wanna know. Funny how over thinking it is usually my #1 problem. Also, I am going out of town this weekend, and I am going to challenge myself to doing an extra day of W3 just to give myself an extra boost of confidence going into W4.
