  • Man, I love this thread. I know I didn't run today, but I just gotta post, haha. Did have a good workout of biking and swimming.

I've been talking about C25K a lot, and am so psyched that I'm on week 5 and going strong. And yesterday I got an awesome surprise text from my best friend saying "Okay, just finished C25K day 1". Haha, she didn't tell me she was even thinking of trying it, but then confided that I'd been talking about it so much she watned to try it and see if she could finish. We are planning on doing our run on Wednesday together.

Happy to hear everyone is doing well!

Fit dad - way to go! That is aweomse. 20 minutes is no small amount!

mamabear - i know what you mean. I try to stretch a lot on my 'off days'. Especially sitting at a desk all day it doesn't help.

elvislover sounds like you are doing great. I can say that I'm kinda watching you to see how you do after finishing the program, lol, no pressure! C25K is so nice because it provides that perfect level of motivation and guidance to keep me going, I'm actually nervous about finishing. Though I have a plan to go almost immediately to the 10K trainer. Keep up the good work! Our poor dogs, lol, they get subjected to some interesting stuff, don't they!

Silverfire Sorry your foot is hurting, but I know that you'll conquer that run soon!
  • Well...once again I feel I'm gonna have to take a break!! Arrgh!!!! My knees felt fine Sunday when I finished W4D3..... But the next morning I woke up with pain on the inside of my left knee and it is still there. I desperately want to keep up with the program but I don't want a serious injury. Same thing happened after doing week 3 and I played off for 5 days then repeated wk3 and moved on. Guess I will have to do the same with week 4! Did anyone else have this when they started??

JMKO I've only had the pain after running either later in the day or the next day...everything I read says to rest and not continue or it will get worse! Have u googled your specific type of pain? Where the pain is can tell a lot about what is causing it.
  • Ran again today as it's National Running Day, did my 20 minutes again today! 20 minutes won't get me too far but it's something. Hopefully I'm back and better than ever!
  • Congrats Elvis! I just got back from doing wk1d2. I have a tomato face still :P the total run/walk was 40 minutes and 2.3 miles. I was still sore from Monday and now Im going to be half dead tomorrow. I can't imagine getting through week one, I'm impressed with you ladies who have gotten so far into the program. I think I might bed hubby for a massage tonight
  • ds so sorry to hear that, but it is probably best to rest! I hope you feel better soon.

elvis - way to go! 20 minutes is definitely something! You should be proud.

Finished W5D2 today, and wow. I have been feeling kind of off health wise this week, but I felt pretty good this afternoon getting on the treadmill. The first 8 minutes were good, I felt strong. But the second 8 minutes....wowza, felt like I was going to throw up and was running a fever. But I just had a few minutes left of running, and I knew if I stopped I'd just have to do it again tomorrow, haha. So one step at a time I finished it! Looking forward to NOT running tomorrow, haha. Even though I'm enjoying it more than I ever have, it still isn't my favorite exercise. In fact sometimes I fantasize about swimming or biking instead! Haha.

    Happy running day every body!
  • I didn't read through all of the posts since I've last visited but scanned tried to catch up on everyone's progress as best I could. I had been asked way back (May 15th when I last posted ) what my pace was. It was around 6min per km but I've slowed it down. The club is running longer now and I can't sustain a faster pace and I think it was leading to sloppy technique as well. Since I've slowed it down a bit (I run at around a 7:30 min/km now) I find I'm not in any pain and can run quite comfortably. But...the last run I did was on Sunday. It was 4.4 km. I've been battling a cold for about two weeks now. I was running through it since it's just a cold but then it seemed to get worse. I'm really congested and I'm coughing a lot and finding it hard to catch my breath at times while doing regular activity. I'm taking a bit of time off to try to recoup. I'm hoping this weekend I can pick up where I left off and start running again. I feel really bad about taking the time off but I think I should. I worry that I will be set back though. I know in my head this is silly and that recovering is the goal here. I can get my running back after that. It still feels bad not doing it though.
  • Angelic, hope you're feeling better soon!

Fantasy, welcome to our group!! It's a great program!

ds072793, Have you been professionally fitted for shoes? If your knees are hurting, the culprit is most likely not your knees but your feet. I am in school for physical therapist assisting and just yesterday our instructor was explaining the kinetic chain and how each joint affects the next one. When I first started running my knees killed me. I got fitted a couple of weeks ago and my knees have not hurt since. I pronate my foot when I walk and run and my shoes have extra support on the inner side of my foot to help stop that. I know I rambled a bit but I highly recommend getting fitted.

elvislover, good for you being back! And don't worry about speed. I keep telling you, it will come!

Hlthgrl, Hope you're feeling better soon!!

I was totally not feeling my run yesterday. A friend of mine in my class asked me a couple of times yesterday if I was ok. I kept telling him that I was disappointed about the test we had just taken. Eventually he said that he didn't think that was it. I had nothing to give him. It finally came to me while I was running. I have too much on my mind and I am finding it hard to concentrate on any one thing. We have 2 finals coming up in a little over a week, a paper due, an extra credit paper (that I really need to do) due, and a really big project due next week. Plus, my sister is in town and there is really bad blood there because of a situation with my nieces. I have no idea how I'm going to get all of this organized and finished. I can't wait for my week and a half off school! LOL
  • I'm completely freaking out that I can't run! I'm scared I'm going to have to go back to Week 1 when I start again.

I don't feel it's a serious injury. I think if I took some Advil I probably could run, but I'm so scared of making it worst! I don't know what to do. I don't really want to go to the doctor. I think I may have to if it doesn't go away.
  • I totally feel your pain Angelic! I tried to run again last night and made it for 90 seconds, but 90 seconds in to the 3 minutes, my foot hurt soooo bad I had to stop! I don't want to have to go back to the start!!! Monday I will give it another try! Angelic, take it easy for a couple days and go again, no point in making it worse right?
  • Do any of you have problems with taking too short of strides? I've slowed my pace a lot during week 4 because the 5 minute runs are so difficult for me, but I've found that I'm taking even shorter strides than I do when I walk! I feel like its causing me more shin pain and making me work harder. How do you guys run at a slow pace but keep your stride long? I need suggestions :/ going out after work to do W4D3
  • Mamabear: Thanks. I think I'm on the mend. I feel a bit better now than I did this morning even. Two weeks of this I think it's time it goes!

Angelic and Silverfire: That's what I'm fearing now too. I'm afraid time off has set me back. But I also know if I run while I'm not up to it, it WILL set me back or at least not do me any favors. Your situations are more serious because since you're injured you could seriously set yourself back. I know it's frustrating but please don't run while you're in pain.

Lotra: It's funny that you mentioned stride length. I think mine is naturally very short. Which is funny because I'm not a short person and my walking stride is very long. When I run I seem to just take small strides. Is that normal or am I doing it strange?
  • I had to cut my run short because the pain in my right shin was just too much. I'm really feeling bad about myself now. I tried from the beginning to take longer strides (not too long, but longer) and I think that's what did it. My nike+ watch was showing 6.5mph when I normally jog at somewhere around 3.8. I got through the first 3 and 5 mins but quit a minute into the second 3 min. I'm feeling like such a failure right now I can't stand it.
  • mommabear thanks for the advice! I have thought about it...when I started I bought a $110 pair of Brooks running shoes. With all the reading I've done I'm thinking it may be more my weak quad muscles causing my patella not to track right despite the fact I wear braces on my knees. It is only one knee though. I'm certainly not discounting the shoes and have done the water test on paper and although it wasn't conclusive I could have some pronation problems but I feel like I have good support. I don't know...I go back and forth on it.
  • I know what you mean ds. I never would have thought shoes would make such a difference. I am so glad I went and got fitted and got my gait analyzed too.

Ok so for those of you who have finished week 5 and beyond, do you notice that you do better with one longer run than breaking them up? I feel like the 20 and 22 minute runs are easier than when they're broken up. W6D2 was two 10 minute runs and W6D3 was one 22 minute run and I think that was easier to me. I did stop twice for about 15 seconds each time but going back and forth kills me.
