Hey all no big update here, TOM and a crazy food weekend because of it and I am up a touch because of eating wheat. Hopefully should be no big problem to get back down over the next few days and start losing again. Hope everyone does great and keeps it up for the final push!

Default Monday 4 weeks to go!

Hi all:

well--it is monday again and we have completed 13 weeks on this challenge and have 4 weeks to go! How is everyone doing? I have lost another pound since yesterday so I have lost 3 lbs this week!

Maybe for our checkin this week we should write:

1. how we feel we have been doing over the last 13 weeks
2. if we learned anything
3. and what our goals are for the next 4 weeks!

1. How have I been doing--I think I have been doing great--I dont know where all this motivation came from but it is really wonderful. My body feels stronger because I have been pretty consistent with exercise, I feel lighter and slimmer.

2. I have learned that I can keep my eating habits consistent and that the two times I went off plan I liked the food but it wasnt good enough for me to feel any desire to do it again--particularly when I gained a pound rather than losing for the week. I have also learned to increase my exercise slowly or I will get hurt. So I have decided to increase my walking 5 minutes a week for the next three weeks to get up to 45 minutes, rather than doing it all at once.

3. My goals are to lose 8 more lbs by Labor day! Yippee!

Okay everyone--I cant wait to hear how everyone is doing

Hi Ed:

I was taking my time writing my post so I didnt read yours until after I wrote mine.

Anyway good job in identifying what doesnt work for you. That weight will come off fast for sure--I think weight gain due to allergies like that are mostly water weight.

Have a great week!

Hey Snow- I know I have been MIA for way too long, but I really need to rejoin the challenge. I am acting in a play right now and last night I saw myself on camera... not pretty! Not pretty at all!!! Plus my husband bought me a new scale for my b-day and it weighs me in exactly 5 pounds higher than my other scale, but on account on it is digital and shows water and BMI and body fat %... it is probably TONS more accurate than my old timey one. Therefore I am resetting my ticker and am aiming for reaching my goal weight of 130 pounds by October 1st.

Hi Snow!
First I want to say thanks to you for managing this long term plan! I really appreciate all the work you've put in updating our weightloss goals and what not!

Now on to your checkin questionairre!

1. how we feel we have been doing over the last 13 weeks

I feel like I've been doing pretty well. I've worked hard these past few months and I feel like I have a stronger and more lithe body to show for it. It's very empowering and I feel like I"m on top of the world some days.

Most days I'm trying not to beat myself up becasue I didn't get in my cardio (as I've been getting a LOT of NO Cardio lately)

2. if we learned anything

It seems so simple but I've learned simple things. To be mindful of what I put in my body and to be aware of why I'm eating as well as What I'm eating. That and I actually like exercise! Who'd have thought?

3. and what our goals are for the next 4 weeks!

I would really like to make my goal for this challange but would be happy with five more pounds. I don't know if that's even goign to be possible for this month because I have been really lacking in exercise lately.

But, I've committed to yoga again and have been on plan with my weights and crunches. Plus, I dance with the children....

Hi guys! I think I am going to change my weigh-in day to Monday. I weighed 193.5 this morning ( -1.5). I am so close to the 180s I can smell it LOL.

Questions:

1. How I feel I have been doing over the last 13 weeks: I feel like even though my progress has been slower than I liked, I have accomplished so much. It's been slow, but atleast it's been healthy.
2. What I learned: I have evolved in this short time to understand better what eating healthy really is! I really feel like I am learning what it takes to keep this weight off for good. I don't want to be another statistic.
3. Goals for the next 4 weeks: To be on plan more often than prevoius weeks..I have alot of splurges here and there. Of course, I would also like to reach my goal of 187!!! But anything in the 180s would thrill me! I weighed 180 when I graduated highschool...

1. how we feel we have been doing over the last 13 weeks
Well you let me start late but for the last 8 or 9 weeks I feel like I have developed a real focus and having a goal out there for short, long and longest is working great for me.

2. if we learned anything
I really do rely on food too often to soothe myself, and that while trying to get rid of the crutch I also need to plan for it and other events that may arise to prevent my perfect eating plan.

3. and what our goals are for the next 4 weeks!
I would really love to be 182 by labor day because that means I would have lost 20 pounds in 3 months although I will take what I can get! I know I can make the initial goal I set of 187 but I think it would be great to go on our disneyland trip 20 pounds lighter!

You guys have been great to whine to and listen that we are all in the same boat most of the time! I can't wait for our Christmas / My birthday challenge (12/26 bday). Once I see where I am on labor day weekend I will set my goal. Its hard to believe that I was so pessimistic about losing weight and setting goals like 3-4 pounds a month just 2 months ago. Now I am thinking if I can just push myself and stay on this track I could lose my 60 pounds in 9 months! Even if it takes me longer I can now see that as long as my health and choices change and move in the right directions I will be improving.

Well for my check in I am down another 2 pounds.. Yeah!! So total weight loss is about 10.5 pounds, I am very proud of that!!

1) I am disappointed though because I will not meet my labor day goal but I also know that I have not been trying my hardest. It is upsetting to know that if I would have pushed myself where I could have maybe been on Labor Day. I am looking forward to the next challenge though!

2) I kinda answered that above. I know it is going to take A LOT of hard work and I am now motivated than ever.

3) Over the next 4 weeks I am going to just push myself! I am going to consistently exercise. I am going to start running just slowly adding it into my walk. My goal is to lose 8 pounds over the next 4 weeks! It is only 2 pounds a week I can do it!

Sorry that I have not been posting as often, I just started a new job in the past couple weeks and I am on my feet A LOT so I am tired and drained when I get home. The past couple weeks I have also been slacking with exercising.

Hey everyone! I didn't lose anything this week..but I'm okay. As long as I'm not gaining, I'm happy. I haven't exercised in a while and need to start again. I know it will start coming off once I start exercising again.

1. how we feel we have been doing over the last 13 weeks
I have been on my weight loss journey for about 8-9wks and I feel really great about the weight loss so far. I thought that I would've lost more by now, but I am completely fine with what I have lost.

2. if we learned anything
I learned that ANY weight loss is a GREAT thing. I don't mind losing it slowly anymore. I learned NOT to weigh myself every day. It's too discouraging. I have also learned that I CAN do it! I have shown myself that I am strong, determined and have a great will for change. I also learned that I have to keep up with a regular exercise routine.

3. and what our goals are for the next 4 weeks!
My goal is to lose 8 pounds.. which would put me at 209. I hope to be in onederland by the start of my new job in 8wks... That would be great!!!! I was hoping to be there by labor day, but that's okay=)

Congrats to everyone on their weight loss so far!

Hey Everyone!

Well i'm back from the island, and I neither gained nor lost which I consider a tremendously good thing as I at ALOT of food, I guess all the exercise I got made up for it, and while i ate lots of foods, i ate small portions. TOM is also coming up for me in two days so this may be my last weigh-in until next week. So far no loss at all this month, but i expected that with my vacation. So here's to getting back on track!

Questions:

1. How I feel I have been doing over the last 13 weeks: Awesome! Other than this weekend, and two nights of binge drinking I haven't cheated at all. I haven't even had a hankering for pizza or other greasy foods. I just need to learn to stick to the weight training part of my plan, which I haven't been doing.

2. What I learned: After the first hump eating that well isn't really that difficult, especially if you're the one doing the shopping. Buying only healthy foods, eating small portions off of small plates and maintaing an exercise schedule isn't really all that hard. I've also learned that the support and motivation that comes through the 3FC forums is not something to take for granted! I truly believe that 30% of my success comes from checking these forums daily.

3. Goals for the next 4 weeks: To actually stick with weight training as apposed to sometimes only doing it once a week. To push really hard since it's already been a week and i haven't lost a pound of my 8 pound goal. To check the forums regularly and officially start a food journal. I also plan on ordering Turbo Jam with my next paycheck.

159!!!!!

I havent seen the scale start with a 15-anything for at least 10 years!
What I am doing different this time is snacking. I have a yogurt or granola bar between meals, I dont go more than 2 hrs without a snack. Eat more, lose more, could have knocked me over with a feather, it works.

1. how we feel we have been doing over the last 13 weeks
I started slow but determined. Its still not easy but people are noticing and it feels good.

2. if we learned anything
Usually I would eat once, maybe twice a day. I work nights, would get up at 3, fix dinner at 5, eat way too much and go to work with no other meals. I learned you must keep feeding your body or it will think its starving. A calorie in, calorie burned is not quite true. I am eating way more calories, and losing.

3. and what our goals are for the next 4 weeks!
I will be on vacation for the last week of the challenge, to see my parents. My goal is to lose 10 more by then, and see 140 something on the scale! (even 149 will do!)

I'm utterly confused. I jumped on the scale this morning (mondays are usually my weigh-in but yesterday had to be on account of vacation) because I was still a little upset, okay OBSESSED, with the fact my weight hadn't changed during vacation. Well what do I see this morning? 139!! What the deuce? Could it be all the physical activity I got in the last 5 days really did that? Well, i'm not going to mark it down on the tracker until tomorrow, so I can double check it's right.I got on and off the scale 4 times this morning in disbelief. We'll see what it says tomorrow. If thats correct I only have four more pounds to reach my labour day goal!! Fingers crossed.

Default Wednesday!

Hi all!

Wow--what a fantastic response to these questions. I really enjoyed reading them and learning more--I can relate to all of these! We are getting wise in this journey.

Aimin: :welcome1: great to hear from you! I wondered where you were. Good to have you back and of course you are always welcome. Let us know how things have been going!

Lekhika: thanks for the props--it is fun to do this and I am glad that people are getting something out of it--but I couldnt do it without all the wonderful contributions from everyone!

Mary: congrats on the weight loss--you have become a more frequent poster on the boards--that is great!

Ed: I totally relate to using foods to soothe--that has been a big problem for me--that is why this kinda cold turkey move of going on nutrisystem really works for me. Good Job on figuring that out!

helpmelose: thanks for letting us know how you are doing--a new job and being on your feet probably makes you burn a lot of calories anyway--tho probably some exercise might help make you feel better!

Neesy: I totally agree about any weight loss is great! After all, I could be gaining weight instead and i gain fast!

Elegant: good job on the small portions! That is really hard when vacationing. I am keeping my fingers crossed on that great weigh in you had! Keep us posted!

Barb: wow! you are doing fantastic--and remember how discouraged you were in the beginning? You have really learned how to keep your metabolism at its optimum while losing--what a break thru!

Have a fantastic 100% day all!

So, as reported yesterday the scale had read 139, it was hovering between that and 140, but settled on 139. Well this morning I did the double check and I weighed in at 140, so that's what i'm officially saying now. 3 pounds down this month! Meaning I've got 5 more to go and 3 1/2 weeks to do it. 12 pounds in total to go.

Snow, I just noticed you're two pounds shy of your labour day goal. That's absolutely awesome, you'll be there in no time. Keep up the good work!

Happy thursday everyone.

Default Thursday!

Hi all:

here is an excerpt from an article in scientific american magazine about losing weight and keeping it off.

"Hill and Rena Wing of Brown University have
established what they call the National Weight Control Registry to
collect data on people who have cut at least 30 pounds and kept them off
for a year. Many have lost much more--the average is a 70-pound weight
loss maintained for six years. "If you look at how they lost weight,
there's no commonality at all," Hill says. But "if you look at how
they
kept it off, there's a lot of commonality."

The key, he continues, is exercise. "Activity becomes the driver; food
restriction doesn't do it. The idea that for the rest of your life
you're going to be hungry all the time--that's just silly." People
in the
registry get an average of an hour of physical activity every day, with
some exercising for as much as 90 minutes a day. They also keep the fat
in their diet relatively low, at about 25 percent of their calorie
intake. Nearly all of them eat breakfast every day, and they weigh
themselves regularly. "They tell us two things," Hill says. "The
quality
of life is higher--life is better than it was before." And "they get to
the point with physical activity where they don't say they love it, but
they say 'it's part of my life.'"

Hill admits that fitting an hour or more of exercise into the day is
difficult, which is why he also focuses on prevention. Many of these
people might never have become obese initially if they had exercised a
mere 15 to 20 minutes a day. "I think you pay a price for having been
obese," he states, "and you have to do a lot of activity to make up for
that."

Kinda interesting.

Elegant--thanks for the kudos--we are both close to our goals--tho I have a way to go before I reach my ultimate goal!
