Hello everyone
Bobbi I would have to eat in the car, which is something I am going to have to start doing. I don't think that we have enough snow yet to try and go accross the field, but maybe by Sunday we will, at least that is what the weather man is saying. You must have burned a lot of calories doing all that shoveling, or you built some muscle? Maybe that's why it's not showing.
Well I was low on my calories again yesterday at about 789, dh made a frozen pizza and it was the store brand, well needless to say we won't be eating them again. I had one bite and was like I can't eat this. Not because of the calories because I had enough left to cover it, it was just a horrible pizza. But the scale did go down a little bit more. Today though I have to eat at least 1100 I don't want my body to go into shock. I did get 20 mins on the Gazelle not the 40 I wanted but my son was wanting me to do stuff with him.
Yes Bobbi the Hazelnut creamer was the liquid full fat version!!! Someone had it at work!! Oh well - It didn't tempt me today!!! We did however order lunch from Panera Bread Co and I want to say that I am TOTALLY shocked that such a "fresh food" place had no fat free or low fat dressing and all their salads had nuts or fried wonton stips on them!!! Anyway all I ended up getting was a bowl of low fat chicken noodle soup and a fruit cup!!
I am only at 720 calories right now and am ready for bed!!
B - Oatmeal 130
L- Soup/Fruit 215
D - LC Santa Fe Rice n Beans 290
S - Pudding and cool whip - 85
I didn't get a work out in either today - but I did drink 185 ounces of water which I never get in!!!
Total calories for today were 955 with 35% coming from fat. (All of those came from the 2.5 ounces of unsalted peanuts I ate on the way home from the gym.)
Worked legs and glutes and ran 3.8 miles, but the kicker today is that I have been weaning myself off cigarettes since late December and I'm supposed to be at seven a day for two days, then six a day for two days, all the way down until I get to to zero (February 1). Yesterday, I couldn't get a handle on it and oversmoked. So today I'm at my seven for the day and trying to figure out how I can hold this.
Everyone says you gain weight when you quit smoking, but the truth is you eat more when you quit smoking, and THAT'S what makes you gain weight.
My food and exercise are definitely under control day in, day out... now it's just a matter of tackling the nicotine.
Bobbi, I think you'll be pleased with the monitor you mentioned. Let me know how you like it once you've gotten it and started using it.
Thanks Valerie Joy, I've been tons and tons better on the cookie front, but these suckers were HOMEMADE and that's what got to me a couple of days ago. Happy to say my kids finished them up and they're out of my house, not a minute too soon as far as I'm concerned.
Diva, I wish you tons and tons of luck quitting smoking. You CAN do this, you've overcome a lot so you know what you're capable of, and I have no doubt you'll conquer this as well. Good luck!!! I'll be pulling for you.
FLMOMOF2 - that's A LOT of water, and a LITTLE calories. Whoa! And I love those sugar free puddings with the fat free cool whip. yum.
Hey everyone
I had about 1050 calories yesterday, I don't have the exact count infront of me but I know that it was about that. I got about 10 mins of exercise. The bad part of it is that about 12:30 this morning, my son woke me up for the 2nd time and I was so hungry that I had to get a bowl of oatmeal. So when I weighed myself this morning I was up .8 lbs. Ugh! But it could be worse! Good luck to everyone this weekend!!
Mary
This thread is something, most people have a hard time staying under their calorie goal, we're having the opposite problem. Mary, Fl-Mom, Diva and I have all had low calories the last day or two. Mary, you're right about not wanting to shock your system with too few calories. I think we all need to get those calories in. It's hard sometimes, yesterday was a really low calorie day for me and I need to stop it. So I shouldn't be preaching! I only had two meals, a large breakfast, no lunch because we ate at 3:00pm so we could get to grandsons basketball game at 5:30. Friday's menu: Calories...892 Fat...42%
Vitamins/salmon oil, etc., Fiber One, Large egg white omelet with crumbled turkey bacon and left-over stir fry vegetables. The olive oil I used to stir fry was 9% of my fat. Breakfast calories...286 Roasted Chicken, Winter Squash, Celery sticks/Radishes. Total calories...376 Evening snack, I was only at 662 calores before going to bed so I had one of DH fully loaded bags of garlic popcorn @ 230 calores and 13% Fat. I don't think it was good fat either. It was so salty I just about didn't eat it. I told DH I'd be up on the scale tomorrow, but was pleasantly surprised. I was down 2 lbs., but I only changed my ticker to 1.5 pounds down. I hate when I sometimes hit a low weigh only to be up again the next day. Well enough about me, Robin... You mentioned Fl-Moms high intake of water (185oz.) Yesterday I heard about a lady that died because she drank 2 gallons of water. That's all I heard about it (I think it was on the View), does anyone know the story? I'd be interested in talking about it. Hi Valerie-Joy! Diva... What do you think about all that water, I know you drink lots of it? You totally blew me away when you admitted to smoking! You are such a health nut and guru about your body. I'm so glad that you've cut down to 7 and like Robin said, you can do it all the way. Show us all what you're made of! Fl-Mom... Are you running low on toilet tissues? A couple of years ago I entered a cooking contest and won 1st prize for my Veggie Casserole, the prize was $100.00 gift certificate to Panera Breads. We had to travel to Rochester, Mn. to cash in on it. I was in heaven, all those breads (my down fall) You did a good job choosing the chicken noodle soup. Sakuya...Hi to you too! I figured the fat in almonds were o.k. Dr. Weil is always telling people to eat them daily. Susan... My aim for March 1st is to be at your weight right now.(142) I'm very competitive by nature and since we're the same height, I'm going to catch up to you! So, what da ya tink about dat? Phyllis... Thanks, I finally can call you by name! If you like Butterscotch pudding, try drizzling SF Chocolate syrup over the top and run a fork through it to marblize it. It looks pretty in crystal sundae dishes and tastes ever better. Mary... All the snow shoveling finally paid off this morning. Like I said earlier, I'm down 2 pounds but my arms and wrists are so sore I can hardly type. Of course that doesn't stop a gabby person like me. Well, DH just got up, he's such a sleepy head. It's 7:13, I've been up since 4:00. Catch ya all tomorrow, Bobbi
There seem to be quite a few people on this thread eating way below the recommended 1200 calories a day. 700-950 calories a day would seem to me to be setting yourself up for trouble in the future when you are ready to maintain your weight.
This is just my opinion, but it worrys me that new calorie counters will see these low numbers and begin the dieting journey consuming much lower calories than their bodies need. I read such low calorie counts and feel almost pressured to lower mine. I am sticking to my higher calories as long as it continues to work for me. Once I stall in the weight loss, I will lower my calories by about a 100-200 calories a day at most.
webweevil, yes those ARE low calories for any given day. Every now and then I stay at those numbers, but not often at all. But I gotta tell you, I let no one influence me in what I do with my life and my body. I don't feel any pressure whatsoever to match those numbers. Everyone's gotta do what works for them. You are your own person and you make your own rules and you should certainly be sticking to what works for you. And I'm glad that you are.
As far as new calorie counters seeing them and thinking that that's what they have to do, I hope they will take the same attitude and do what's best for them. If not, then they're really not in this for the long run. Following someone else is a recipe for failure.
Yesterday our power was off all day AGAIN so not a great day but I did better than usual so I'll post it anyway.
Pre-workout - 2 protein bars (388) Breakfast - 40g fiber one /w 4 oz light vanilla soy milk (109) Lunch - Wendy's mandarin chicken salad, no crispy noodles, no dressing, 5 french fries, pumpkin spice ricotta creme I had made the night before (336) Snack - Kashi dark chocolate cherry bar, 15g dark chocolate (200) Dinner - Subway turkey breast and ham sub with all the veggies and no cheese, baked lays (!), 2 subway cookies (!!!) (886)
I've already voiced my opinion on the less-than-1200 thing, so I don't have much to add... except that yes, if you are a new person, you need to figure out your OWN intake, but everyone here supports that idea as well. I have found that a goal of 1500 a day is working awesome for me. I have lost 7 lbs in a month and I can honestly say I don't feel deprived at ALL. I've eaten pretty much whatever I've wanted, just smaller portions, and if I go overboard one day I make up for it the next.
I feel so little "don't fall off the wagon" pressure because to me, there is no "wagon".
We have a dear friend who weighs, what we guess to be, about 320-350 lbs. He's a tall guy but his doctor suggested recently that he look into gastric bypass surgery. Now, I wasn't in the room so I can't ask the doctor WTF he was thinking, but I can tell you this person has NOT tried hard or ever committed to a weight loss plan. He overeats and doesn't get any exercise, it's a very straight forward case. My fiance told him last night about how we've lost our weight (Fiance has also lost 7 lbs in this past month) and about FitDay, etc. For once I feel I can recommend something without seeming like I'm pushing some crazy half-a$$ diet (south beach, fat smash, etc.) Err.... no offense to those of you that follow those diets. I tried both, so that's where my opinion comes from.
Anyway, I feel great. 3 lbs gone this week. Looks like my body was finally tired of holding on to it!
The smoking IS a nightmare! I started gaining this weight (was always 123) five years ago when I first stopped smoking. Seems with every quit I gain ten to twelve pounds, start smoking again, AND keep the weight. Seeing the weight gain always threw me into a tailspin.
So when everyone says that weight gain is inevitable, I aim to prove them wrong. I got through the holidays without gaining weight (actually lost weight) and I'll get throught this quit without the weight gain.
Webweevil, the low calories are an anomaly... the exception rather than the rule. Some days you just don't need all that food. I am never hungry. Ever. That was the one thing I refused to allow. I have never been an emotional eater (emotional smoker) and I am glad to see that as I've slashed my nicotine intake by 2/3, I haven't taken up eating to replace it.
I do tend to eat throughout the day but it just happens that the foods I eat are not high in calories. Now the fat... that's another story. LOL
Yes those low calories are not normal - yesterday was a bad day all together, I didn't bring lunch to work since we were ordering in and it was either 100 calorie soup or a 600 calorie sandwich. Then my daughter had gymnastics from 3:30 - 5:30 and I didn't get home to bring my snack with me. Anyway - today already I am at 620 and that doesn't include dinner or my evening snack/dessert.
The water was rare too... but for some reason I just kept filling up my Dasani bottle and I mark it on the side everytime I fill up and I had 11 when I put it in the recycle bin!!! I never drink that much!!! I would hope it wouldn't hurt me????
Today -
B - Oatmeal- 130 OJ 60
S - 100 cal cheese nips 100
L - Tuna with egg and 6 triscuits 330
D - ??
S - ??
Anyway - I do not plan to go below 1200 calories a day but sometimes it just happens that way!!
I don't think we should panic because of the woman's death in my home town. She wasn't just leading a normal life and drinking water all day long and then dropped dead. She participated in a contest where you drink a ton of water all at once and then aren't allowed to pee and have to see how long you can hold it.
I would say 11 bottles of water isn't *necessary* for a healthy life, but it can't see it hurting you if drank over the day and if you're not depriving yourself of bathroom use.
