Okay, not a good day here. Suffice to say, a lot of stress. Which I attempted to salve with food. First I filled up on healthy stuff. I hit about 1600 calories around 1pm. Then I tried to quit eating and distract myself. Went out with my DDs to do some errands. Ate some M&Ms (purchased a regular size bag). Ate some peanuts (from my DHs jar at work). By "some" I actually mean almost a cup. Around 800 calories according to Fitday. At this point I was plenty full. Not hungry at all. NO HUNGER. Still stressed, though. Funny how that works. Only now I have more stress... the stress of overeating. I start feeling a little hopeless, kind of despairing, like oh-my-gosh, will I EVER overcome this battle with food? I chew some sugarless gum and move on. Say to myself, "Lindy, now is a good time to quit eating for the day!" I have one more stop on the way home at Walgreens. I see Christmas candy for 10 cents. I buy myself FIVE THINGS! (Not all are full sized, but isn't that a sad disclaimer?). I eat about half, and pitch the rest in a trash bag with Comet over it so I can't go back. I enter it all in Fitday. I'm at like 3,000 calories. My stress is now through the roof. The original stress from work and volunteer stuff is still going strong, but the food/stress makes me cry. Anyway, by evening DDs are at their activities and DH comes home. It gets worse. We go out to dinner (which I could have totally avoided) and I share a meal with him. I feel gross. I don't like "solving" my problems this way. It never helps, and I never remember how utterly terrible I feel. After dinner we pick up DDs. I want to be done for the day, I really do. But that stupid little voice in my head is reminding me that I am going to "start over" tomorrow. So I get an ice cream cone, double dip, on the way home. Honestly, it is a miracle I am not 1,200 pounds. This is so completely emotionally painful for me. I just want to have HOPE that I will CHANGE and not do this! I try and then... I do not handle stress well, that is for sure.

Awww Lindy stress is such a crappy reason to eat, yet we all do it. They call that stuff "comfort food" for a reason!

I will share this with you: at times in my life, I have planned to eat healthy, and by the time lunch rolled around and I was having a stressful day, I would decide to go to McDonalds. The entire drive there, I'm saying in my head "don't do it! don't go there! go find a salad somewhere! you DON'T want to do this! You DON'T want to eat this junk!! It's KILLING you!" and then miraculously my car arrives at the drive-thru at the golden arches. As I'm approaching the microphone to place my order, that voice chimes in again "Ok...just get a happy meal. Just get the SMALLEST thing you could possibly get...you'll be full and you know it." and then I find myself saying outloud "Yeah I'll have a large-sized big mac value meal and a m&M mcflurry". Then I get home and start eating all of it and that voice is STILL begging me to stop. And yet, I keep eating. Maybe I'm hoping if I eat enough that voice will shut up, lol.

Anyway, it's been a few years since I've found myself in that spot, but it was a very LOW spot each time it happened. You can't change what happened today, but you ARE starting over again tomorrow. Pick out some good foods that you enjoy but are good for you, and then FORCE yourself not to pick up everything that looks good. It is a battle of wills -your own versus your own. Tell yourself that today (tomorrow) you are going to win. Every time you reach for something that isn't on your food plan, as soon as it almost touches your hand, imagine yourself back at this moment in time, as upset as you are. You don't want to feel this way again.

I hope some of that helps. I'll send good mental vibes & strength your way for tomorrow. I believe in you!

Thank you so much for the encouragement, SmartButt! (It makes me laugh typing "SmartButt" into a totally serious sentence, which makes this moment even more uplifting!!) I think, SmartButt, that I just needed to hear someone believe in me. Do you know what I mean, SmartButt? (I'm giggling out loud now). One day of crappy eating doesn't make it my lifestyle. Even the healthiest of eaters has an off day now and then, right? (right, SmartButt?) So I'm back to it. I wish I could've handled today better, but I'll handle tomorrow better and that will count for a lot. And if I'm feeling down, stressed, or whatever, I come on here and type a little note to SmartButt. Or several notes to SmartButt. Or just a note that has a lot of SmartButts in it. That has got to be the funniest name! I'm getting loopy. G'night everyone! Thanks for being here!

Morning ladies. I also had a bad day yesterday at 2504 cal. Like someone said, smaller sized people also do this. When I was 128, which I maintained for a few years, I ate like this plenty and didn't gain because after a few days of over eating I would get back OP and eat a bit less for a few days. Also, I've always stuck to "mainly" healthy food when I have the munchies so its a little easier to get OP again. The problem now is that we're trying to lose weight rather than maintain, so best to limit these when we can. But no sense in getting upset as most people who like to eat (not those thin types like DH who could take it or leave it) have these munchy days now and again.

Imeandnonelse: Did you calculate the calories using the labels and exactly measured portions? Without knowing your portions or the types of bread, etc, I calculate around 1200 calories..I could be totally off but I've gotten pretty good at calculating from using fitday.

Total calories for January 10 - 954 with 35% coming from fat. (I am going to KILL the fat counter!)

Caloric deficit for January - 4757 calories

I find that when I train hardest at the gym, I eat less at home. But I do get my protein in.

Most people need or want the accountability. That's why daily works.

I think she meant have a new thread every week instead of every month.

Hello everyone
Well I defiently wasn't around 1000 cal yesterday, I have my count at 1455. I think fitday is about 20 higher. But I did a total of 40 mins of excerise. So I get on the scale this morning hoping that my body knows that I am not trying to strave it just make it slimmer but no I gained a little more, not a full pound or anything but still....Hopefully tomorrow it will go in the opposite direction.

Diva... What did you eat that brought your fat up to 35%? Doesn't building muscle need more fat?
Sakuya... I love sweet tators and often mixed them in with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and garlic. I put it all into a roasting pan and drizzle with olive oil and seasonings, Yum! I see you eat almonds, I just purchased a bag of smoked almonds. I always have a hard time reaching my 1200 calories at bedtime and I purchased these to help me reach that goal. The trouble is, I forget about them. Last night I filled up on popcorn, mocha coffee and hot chocolate to get my calories up and I wasn't even hungry. Maybe I put some almonds by my bed to remind me. I wouldn't have to eat many as they have 170 calories per ounce. 28g or1/4 cup is about 25 almonds. That's 6.8 calories each, no wonder there're so good! Geeeezzzzz, I just ate two, I'll have to add 13.6 calories to today's menu.
Julie... Great calories, 1,188! I agree with you about the lengthy thread, I think starting a new thread every Monday morning would be great. We will still post every day like Diva mentioned and who ever gets up first on Monday morning can start out the week. What does anyone else think? If you all agree, lets come up with a title like, "Calorie Counters Weekly" or something with a date in it? The original name had "Keep it Simple" in it, how about the simpleton's weekly! Just kidding!
Ooooooooooop SmartButt, I responded to you cutting one off in the Valentine's thread. I bet they're all wonding what we're talking about!
Charlene... Nobody expects anyone to respond to everybody, I just happen to have the time to do it. I'm up by 4:00am and usually putter around until Regis and Kelly show comes on then get get off my duff.
SlimLindy... Good suggestions about the long thread.
Mami... I'm cursed with a petite 5'3" frame but most people don't realize I'm short because I always wear 2" high heels, boots, etc. when going out. I wear tennis shoes while home, we live out in the sticks where nobody can see me except family.
I'm going to eat leftover pizza for breakfast this morning, then go work it off at the Fitness Center. Everyone have a healthy food day, Bobbi

Bobbi: Girl, that is alot of elk! hah I've never even tried elk, so it makes me find your menu all the more interesting... And I wanted to thank you for posting so many good things about flat out wraps earlier this month - you are the one who made me finally get out and buy them and I LOVE them! They are one of the best healthy foods I have ever bought and even my husband loves them. I really want to use them to make a yummy healthy pizza but I don't have the right cheese right now. I bet that would be so good.

SlimLady: You're not the only one who goes into a giggling fit every time you write about SmartButt. I am so jealous of the clever screne name as well. I always use the same name everywhere because I am not creative, and as we can all see, it's not very witty or interesting.
Also, I completely agree we should have weekly threads. It's a good thing this is so busy though! I love seeing so many people trying so hard to stay on track. It's motovatig to me to be surrounded by other positive individuals.

Imenonelse: Congrats on the new job!

Bobbi,

Muscle building requires more protein, not fat.

Egg, whole, boiled 11
Cheese, mozzarella, part skim milk 17
Coffee, NS as to type 0
Cream, half and half 3
Sugar, NFS 0
Cottage Cheese - Hood Low Fat No Salt 2
Progresso Black Bean Soup w/Bacon 2

That's everything I ate yesterday. The numbers next to it are the fat grams. Very few calories, but proportionately too many came from fat.

Once I run out of my Half and Half, I'm switching to skim milk for my coffee.

And I'm going to learn to eat eggs without the yolk. Not giving up the cheese, though. Uh uh - no way!

Hello ladies...
I hope you all are having a great morning. Thanks everyone for the congrats on the new job, I sure am excited!
Mami- My fiancee' is my dietician. By that I mean that he helps me out a lot on my "life change" plan. He can eat whatever he wants and stays skinny as a rail, but he is so sweet that he likes to help me out. We measure out all of my portions, and I use the labels on the packages because fit-day is innaccurate and I am too busy to put all of the individual things I eat everyday into the custom portion. My meal came to about 975 by our measurements, but if the calories were more I would be happy with that because I am worried my weightloss will hit a stand-still soon. It's just hard for me to fill up those cals when I'm eating healthily.
Smartbutt- I want to commend you on the advice that you gave to slimlindy. It was really inspiring and I love this thread because we are all here for eachother...
Slimlindy- :HUGS: I really hope you are feeling better, and remember, you can do this, we all have bad days sometimes...
Bobbi- yumm hot chocolate...

I'll check in with you all later! Take Care.

AnAbsoluteDiva- You are not getting too much fat. Your calories are so low, and totally devoid of vegetables and fruit (our main source of nutrient dense, low calorie, fat free food!!)!! If you were to add in even one piece of fruit and one serving of veggies, your fat percentage would drop down really low. I don't want to pick on you, especially since I'm having a hard time myself (but in different ways) but what you are eating looks like starvation to me. Not just because it is low calorically, but because it is very low in essential nutrients. You are getting protein and calcium, I see that. But what about all the other things your body needs? A few more calories from nutrient rich foods will also help you in the long run to avoid a binge or cravings!

Hi Lindy,

I don't feel picked on... no worries there.

But you're looking at one day only. Not a total picture. Some days I go meatless, some days I go dairy less. And it's only low like that because it was flukey. I usually get into the 1200 to 1300 range.

As for vegetable intake, beans are one of the best out there. And two cups is more than most people do on a good day.
