Julie and Valarie - don't worry I was high too! I was around 2400 today. But this is my high day for the week, I allow myself one higher day and then it averages out.
Eiluj, don't be so hard on yourself, those numbers aren't so bad at all. Now the headache, yeah, that's BAD.
sakuya, I gotta tell you - you are unbelievable!!! You're a college student right? Amazing what you've done. Really amazing. Your menus and your planning and everything. Spinach and onion quiche sounds yummy - if you've got time I'd love the recipe.
Susan, yes you certainly are on a nice roll. I very much like calorie cycling. It's been working nicely for me.
Soon2bfitchick, I was at Modells the other day looking for a pedometer. It said something on it about the size strides you take and it turned me off. What kind do you have and how do you set it up? Just how accurate is it? Does it measure distance as well as steps?
By the way, I do EXACTLY the same thing as you - I sneak in extra exercise EVERYWHERE, brushing my teeth, blow drying my hair, laundry (I don't use a laundry basket anymore, I walk it all back and forth), washing dishes, etc... I just keep moving constantly. I always add extra movements to everything I do. When I watch TV I just started using a resistance band, GREAT for the arms. My kids think I've lost my mind. I tell them, "NO, just the opposite, I've finally gotten my brain together"
I have given up eating at night, although I will admit funny enough snacking at night was NOT a big issue for me. I sometimes find that when it comes to dinner I'm not even hungry. I have been very fortunate and was able to retrain myself. I'm just not nearly as hungry as I used to be. I am satisfied on so very little. A real true blessing. If I have eaten particularly light for the day I will add a small snack in the early evening. This has nothing to do with hunger though. It's more like a little treat. I have a 60 calorie sugar free jello pudding with a squirt of fat free whipped cream. Very satisfying.
Wednesday's calories - about 1150. The weekends coming. Those numbers WILL be upped.
I am going to start logging what I eat daily so I can see why I am not loosing. I hope this is OK with everyone. Snow day for me so it will tough being home all day, by myself, and trying not to eat too much. Hope everyone has a good day.
Yesterday must have been the day of high calories. What insanity. I ate 1965 calories and 51% from fat. What did me in was the 4.75 ounces of unsalted peanuts. Over 800 calories just on that treat. Took me two whole minutes to eat them.
Almost 2000 calories and it wasn't even hearty.
Anyway, jumped on the scale and NO loss. Going to the gym to work my arms and jump on that treadmill for a good hour. It'll take more than this to kill the peanuts!
rockinrobin - I think that almost all standard-issue pedometers rely on your stride-length to give you a "distance" reading. In reality it's just taking the amount of steps you take (determined by a motion sensor) and doing some math with your stride length. An accurate pedometer would let you calibrate and put this in manually, if you wanted distance.
There are also mini GPS chips in some devices that you can get, which transmit back and forth from a satellite and that is supposed to be the most accurate as far as distance. However, if you go into a wooded area or in any area that the satellite can't see, you'll lose the signal and it won't record your distance.
I bought the Nike+ chip thingy for your shoe (fiance bought me the little pocket it goes in if you don't have the actual nike shoe) and my ipod Nano gives me feedback on how far I've gone. I calibrated it using a treadmill at the gym and it's fairly accurate, considering that everyone takes different stride lengths when they are jogging, walking or running. It's close enough for me I guess.
Did anyone see the Bodybugg they came out with? It has a mixture of a bunch of different little sensors that supposedly calculate the calories you burn on a daily basis (and i mean all - it takes into account when you're laying down, when you're standing up, your heart rate, your body temperature...its crazy) and then you enter your food into their website, much like fitday, and it (allegedly) gives you a calorie reading that is 96% accurate, higher than any manual calculation. Sounds neat, haven't tried it.
I'm on a nice roll this week. I'm just under 1500 for Wednesday. That's four not bad days in a row!
Calorie cycling is actually pretty popular. Having a hihgish day or two is fine as long as your average is good. Like sakuya3834.
Go Susan!
I don't really plan on calorie cycling, it just ends up happening. Yesterday was disappointing because my high calories were from things I really don't need--like a doughnut. I don't even like doughnuts much, but I ate one because I had a headache and was feeling really sorry for myself!
Yesterday I ate the following:
B: Oatmeal, 1/2 apple, 1/4 c. milk, 10 almonds
L: 1 c brown rice, chicken curry with lots of veggies (homemade,) 1/2 c. yogurt (homemade)
S: 1/2 c. yogurt
D: 1 veggie burger, 1 bun, salad w/ dressing, oven fries
Good Morning everyone...
Well I am having a bad time, I weigh myself every morning ( I know I should only do it once a week, but it ususally keeps me motivated). Sunday Morning I weighed 169.6, Then Monday it was 171.6, Tuesday 171.0 Wednesday 170.8 and Today 171. Today was at first 169 again, then I took the kids out to the bus hopped back on and it was 171? I am not understanding. I know I ate more calories than I ususally do yesterday, 1290 but that still is not high, in fact it is right where I want to be, the days before were in the 800's. Does this happen to anybody else? I think I really need to get the motivation to start excersing more. I am doing about 20 mins on my Gazelle, and some sit ups and that but I don't think that is enough. Well I am off to see how I can change my schedule to fit in more excerise and change the ticker.
I don't mind folks weighing themselves everyday ... for tracking purposes. And for accurate tracking purposes, you have to keep the variables to a minimum. Your best bet is to get up in the morning, void your bladder and step on the scale. Then stay off the scale until you can do exactly that again.
We're assuming you got dressed to run the kids to the bus maybe had coffee, a drink of water etc.
Can anybody find a link to Ann's Demystifying the Scale thread? You'll find it very helpful.
I went to the bathroom before I got on the scale the first time, threw on a sweatshirt took them out and then came back in, got down to the exact same thing I was wearing before. That's why I am not understanding it? I didn't eat or drink until after the 2nd weigh in??? Crazy I know... LOL
