Evening! The kiln turned out super! I will post some pictures when I get them taken!

I have three meters...I just got the new Ultra One Touch mini which I carry in my purse, and I have the Ultra One Touch II that I use most of the time.

I never ate dinner tonight...we had a late large lunch, so I only took my Byetta this morning. My bg was just 174, so I took a whole Amaryl in stead of a half...I hope the bg does ok over night.

I have a doctor's appointment to go over my labs in the morning...I am anxious to see what the A1C was...I am sure it was not as good as my last one of 6.1. I just hope it is not a lot higher.

LYNN: I agree with Meowee on the caffeine issue. I have read it does, and it doesn't. All you can do is experiment and see how it effects YOU.

Blah, I woke up at 2:30am and felt like I was delirious or something, fever, nausea, pains in my stomach. Tried to go back to sleep but eventually went to the washroom and was sick as a dog. It's3:30am now, feeling better now that I was sick. I wish I could figure out what caused it.

Hi there . . .

Yuckie day . . . cold and pouring rain . . . Spring is just about officially over and I think I can remember maybe 5 or 6 nice days. Oh Well.

That brings me to a completely non-diabetes question for today . . . What's your favourite season of the year and why? Mine is definitely Autumn -- I love the colours, the temperatures, even some of the smells (burning leaves, for example).

MONET . . . Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Good luck on the A1C.

THIN . . . Aww, poor you -- sounds like a little 'food-flu'. Hope it does not flare up again.

Nothing too exciting for me again today -- my life is so boring -- I really need to get some bills paid and do a little grocery shopping . . . but I forgot to build an 'ark' yesterday. So maybe I'll just hibernate and try to keep doing the good stuff as much as possible. At least the BGL was a cooperative 5.3 (95) this morning.

Have a great moving and shaking day, gang . . . see you later . . .

Morning! Back from the doctor's. I was irritated that they did not tell me I was seeing the PA instead of the doctor. I don't usually like that switcheroo. I did not like it today. The PA was very nice, but did not know what Byetta was. My cholesterol was high (duh! I was not fasting...) and she wanted to give me lipitor. Sorry...I do not do those kinds of drugs. After consulting with the doctor, they decided to increase my thyroid meds a bit to see if that helps. How I wish I could go back to the doctor I used a few years ago. I liked him, but hated his office. I thought I was going to like this one...but today was not as pleasant as the last visit...

Oh and my A1C was 6.7. Not out of range for a diabetic, but not as good as my previous 6.1. I am not surprised, but I am sure it has gone down already.

Off to get prescriptions and do some grocery shopping!

Hi everyone. Thin - so sorry you are feeling bad. Hope it goes away soon. Be sure to test often when not feeling well. Your bsl does wierd things sometimes. Meowee - We only have 2 "seasons" here - summer and not-summer. LOL. Summer starts in May and goes to early November, the not-summer goes from Nov. to April. Needless to say, I love the "cool" season. Of course to some of you, our cool is a nice spring day. Altho we did have frost a couple of times last January. Hope you all have a good day.

Morning All,
Basics first: 99 bsl this am. I always feel like i miss so much over the weekend here lol. i ate kinda poorly over the weekend, but i didn't affect my bsl much and i stayed in normal range. well maybe it wasn't as poorly as i thougt it was. i've been fighting a monster of a headache the last couple of days.. must be stress over the wedding. and its not even my wedding lol.
Meowee: ohh those kitties look soo cute. wish i could have one, but the apts i live in don't let ya.
Thin: sorry to hear u were sick.
As for the question of the day.. im gonna have to go with winter! I love gray cold days where u just cuddle up in a blanket and watch the rain. well thats all for now.. ttfn

Cool

Hi, all. The fog came in Friday night and cooled everything down, thank goodness. I have not been able to put the brakes on my eating and feel like a slug. Will try again this week, although I have to go to a lunch tomorrow to a place that doesn't have any healthy food. Oh, well. To catch up on the questions, I have two blood glucose meters, one at work and another at home. Both were sent to me by my insurer. I have a mini meter coming free from Lifescan. Guess I will carry that around with me. My favorite time of the year used to be fall - I love the light here in the city. But that's the warmest time of the year and since I've had the air conditioner noise problem, I am now preferring winter, with its gray days and rain. Never get enough rain.
Meowee - those sure are cute kitties. Wish I could have pets. How can you keep that skinny cow in your reefer and not eat the whole box. I bought a box a couple of weeks ago and went through them in one night.
Rosey - congratulations on your bingo win! I bet you'll clean out that casino!
Monet - sorry about your having to put up with the PA. I don't mind seeing one if I just have a cold or something, but not for a regular visit or for prescriptions not related to something minor. Glad your pots turned out well.

MEOWEE: My favorite season is spring! I love the 'rebirth', the flowers, etc. It helps that my birthday is the first day of spring too!

What are you ladies doing to get such low BGL numbers in the morning? I'm limiting myself to around 40-50 carbs/day - NO simple sugar/rice/pasta/white bread - taking Januvia - and my waking BGL averages around 130.

I'm getting so frustrated. Yesterday was really good numbers. Today I'm eating the same foods & numbers are over 120 again. I just can't figure this out.

Lynn . . . Are you checking the numbers at bedtime? How about the middle of the night (about 3 am). Try to remember to check for a couple of nights so you can see the total picture. I know I'm famous (infamous) around here for always suggesting you might be having a hypo during the night and that is why you are so much higher in the morning; but it happens to me so very, very often that I cannot help but think about it when someone else mentions being high in the morning.

Monet . . . Sorry you had a crummy experience at the doctor's. Sounds like nobody in the office is sharing your file with anyone else.

Rosetta . . . It isn't always easy to limit the Skinny Cow intake. For me, though, it isn't as hard as limiting my peanut butter, or chocolate . . . so I'm thankful for the lesser of the evils.

Later . . .

PS: So right . . . we are having what some you lucky ones call Winter right now. But . . . when all is said and done, I'd rather have our sub-freezing winters than your boiling hot summers, anyway. Spring or Fall all year . . . thaz' all I really vant.

Some days I'm glad I have a job where I can be quite physically active, however, today was almost overboard. I work in manufacturing. Today I was wrapping pallets of finish goods. In 8 hrs I wrapped 50 pallets and walked 10.5 miles. Man I'm bushed. I did manage to keep my blood sugars stable and drank 256 oz of water.

Hey Lynn,
The only way i have been able to manage my bsl is with insulin (i take humilin 70/30 twice aday about 16 units). im not sure what januvia is though, but i do know that the pills (used to take glucophage) never really worked for me and since being on insulin i wouldn't go back to pills.

Meowee: Ok so u have to explain this to me. i have seen u mention that having a low in the middle of the nite can give people a high in the morning.. I don't get why u would have a high bsl in the am if u are running low in the middle of the nite, unless u treat the low close to the time when u are going to be getting up and testing the am bsl. is there something im missing? Let me know because i have always been curious about that.

Talk to ya'll later

Hi gang . . .

About to take myself off to bed . . . so here's the food log for today . . .

B -- 2 coffee; HF cereal, strawberries, skim milk
S -- skinny cow bar
L -- chicken breast; big salad
S -- dry puffed wheat cereal
D -- bean salad; romaine, tomato, cucumber
S -- skinny cow bar

W -- 88 oz / 2750 ml

MICKEY -- Your liver stores glucose in case of emergency. If your BGL dips too low, your liver can give you a shot of that stored glucose to bring it back up to a safe level again. Trouble is, the liver usually goes a little overboard to be on the safe side and your BGL goes higher than you'd like it to be. The closer the timing of the low (and therefore the automatic infusion of glucose) is to your normal time to get up, the higher that morning reading will be.

Anyway, everybody . . . have a great evening . . . See you all again tomorrow.

Mickey - I'm not meowee, but I can answer your question. When your bsl gets low, your liver pumps out glucose to keep the body functioning. This is automatic body function, sorta like the flight or fight thing. When your body doesn't make insulin or doesn't use it, of course you bsl goes too high when the low is corrected, hence the high bsl in the morning. That's why when my dr is adjusting medication levels, I have to do 2 and 3 hr after meal tests and also set my alarm (altho these days my bladder is a pretty good alarm) for 3am to do a blood test to see what it's doing in the middle of the night. Here's a link for an explanation.
