This is a big deal for me. A few days ago someone asked for everyones real name and I just couldn't do it. I have never owned up to the number on the scale and did't want anyone to be able to identify me. I can be honest here. Number is real no one knows that number. So for days I have wresteled with this. But guess what I am coming clean I want this to be true ownership so I will not remain at this number! Hello my friends my name is Dianne and I love ya all! This is my real name too for awhile I thought about using yet another alias! My daughter is a college proffessor and she told me they had a big discussion about people using fake identies online and psycologically what it means... Emmm well have a great day!

Good morning, dear Dianne!

You're right about anonimity, and no doubt we should all be cautious, but I would be very surprised to discover that the women and man on this particular thread are not who they say they are. I definitely wouldn't say that about other types of message boards, chat rooms, etc., but other than a cruise lover's website, I pretty much stay away from those other things.

There is comfort in hiding behind a computer -- you can be anyone you want to be. Here, on this thread, I am who I am, for better or worse! I believe I'm sharing with a fantastic group of women (and dear Reggie) who are all struggling with the same issues I am. Together, we will all become the best 50s people we can be.

Diane, I agree with Laurie, I think that we all have professed the truth here. To be honest I have been stating my real name everything about me for year with no problems. Gee, that is even a real pictures of me and Tom I think it just feels more personal being able to tell everything

OK, I weighed, it could have been really bad because to be truthful I have had this attitude that I really could not make much of a difference in the next week before the cruise. I have not eliminated the exercise but I also have not been the Bull in the China Closet Exercise Machine So it ends up when I got on the scale I was exactly the same as last Thursday, which was exactly the same as the Thursday before that. I guess this short body likes that number even though I don't Well at least I have not gained and the dresses I know will fit. I was feeling a bit stressed because only one pair of jean capris fit and I realized I needed at least another pair so I did go shopping last night and picked up another pair of capris and two tops so I think I will be OK. I can now mentally go thru each day and figure out what I will be wearing. Tonight I will start to pack

OK, Has any one seen the Cathy cartoon strip today it is really funny again.

Sara... 3 lbs is wonderful. Keep on trucking.

Linda...I'm glad the groundhog didn't see his shadow, I'm so ready for spring to get here. Unfortunately, March/April are not here yet, and we will probably get a spring blizzard. We just had our warmest January on record for North Dakota. I have just loved it! With the price of oil, it's been nice not having to run the furnace full time.

Marsha...Protion size for WW are as follow... 1 cup, size of tennis ball. Bagel, bread, large store bought muffin, the size of a CD. A small piece of fruit is the size of your fist or a tennis ball. A large potatoe is the size of a light bulb. 1/2 cup is the size of a computer mouse. Meat and fish the size of a audio cassette.
1 oz cheese equals 6 small dice. 1/4 cup of shredded cheese is the size of a golf. Snack foods, a serving is a hand full. Hope this help.
I measure everything using measuring cups, spoons and a scale since I can't trust myself by just looking. Either I have too much or not enough.

Dianne...I feel the same way as the others, but I feel very comfortable here. At first I wasn't going to use my real name or give my current weight, but I need to quit hiding behind the fat. Everyone here I consider a friend, that truely cares about each and every one of us. So it is a first step for both of us.

Well gang, got my exercising in and ate within my points. Made a real tasty shrimp stir fry with lots of broccoli, mushrooms and a few shredded carrots. Still have points left if I need a snack for later on.

Love to you all,

Cheryl

Happy Friday Chicks & Reggie!

It's a rainy day here in Central Florida, but will be 80...so it's ok

I got my 3 lb. weights yesterday & used them while I watched General Hospital. It's usually on, but I never actually sit down to watch it. I decided that doing the arm weights during that hour of the day would be a nice goal for me along with the reward of actually paying attention! I did a few different arm and back exercises with them and will do more today . Hopefully I can get back on my Pilates too.

Yes...I agree that anonimity is probably warranted most places on the Internet, but here & on our cruise-lovers board, we've used our real names & approximate locations. It's not like our street addresses & last names out there for lurkers to pinpoint us, so I feel safe in sharing personal info with all of you. I think it's essential for us to completely share our weight loss issues with each other so we can finally be successful...and it's fun to know personal things about each other so we can become true friends.

Yesterday I stayed on-plan and made a super dinner of swiss steak, wild rice & those baked apples cooked in SF black cherry sparkling water w/ Splenda & cinnamon. They tasted like apple pie and were sooooo legal! Today I am lunching with a friend and will order a salad.

My weight is coming off at a snail's pace but I'm hanging in there with your help.

Have a great day, Everyone!

Good Morning to all . . .

Not too much to say this morning. I burned the roof of my mouth and bit my tongue yesterday. Definitely one way to avoid overeating that I do not recommend.

Dianne . . . I definitely have to agree with the others who have mentioned feeling comfortable here. Yes there is definitely a feeling of safety in remaining anonomous when posting to a board like this . . . but I think the openess of revealing your true self to others also helps to keep you from trying to fool yourself and that is so very important on this type of journey.

Anyway, that's enough talking for now . . . my mouth hurts. See you all soon. Have a great day.

Good morning everyone, Well, today is the day! I have to go for my epidural injections! Not looking forward to that at all. I just hope it helps with the back pain, since nothing else has!

I can understand the reluctance to give a "real" name. But i think to be honest with each other is what this site is about. If we want to share more information we can always instant message. And to not give the correct weight would totally defeat the purpose! We have a great group of people here and I believe every one is honest about who they say they are.

Jill, Yeah for you for getting your weights, and another YEAH for using them! I always use mine while I watch TV too, and after awhile you just automatically pick up those weights at that time! A GOOD habit. BUT, yu shouldn't exercise the same muscles with weights every day, just every other day! Arobic exercise is different. We need that every day! My weight is coming off at a snails pace too. Like the cartoon says, I think it's senile! But it is comming off and in the meantime I am eating healthier and getting stronger!

Linda, That is not a good way to lose weight!!! Hope your mouth is better!

Talk to you later, Freda

Hi Donna! Welcome to 50-Chicks! We also have a Rooster named Reggie

Oh....I can totally feel your pain about having to wear your shirt tucked in and I have to admit that I haven't worn a tucked in shirt in years. I'm sure someone here will have some good advice for you....but the only thing I can think of is to tuck it loosely so that the tuck doesn't accent your tummy rolls. I know how I'd be feeling in your position....and I think you're very brave to go ahead and try it! After all....you're down over 6 pounds....so you will only begin to feel better & better as time goes on!

So glad you're here with us to share your experiences, successes & also those little slip-up's that we all have. We've got a great support group!

I wrote and lost my message again! It says I'm not logged in but when I try to come back it lets me and it lets me check my private messages ... so, does anyone know what to do? I don't want to have to copy my message every time JUST IN CASE!

Donna, my advice for you would be to wear a belt or a scarf/sash ... I think it would make you feel more "put together" and maybe even detract people from what's around it. Believe me, I know what you're feeling ... looking in the mirror a hundred times to see whether this outfit made me feel fatter than the one before. But, I think the accessories can help draw people's attention away from the line around your middle when we think everyone is looking at, but they aren't. Do you have a Stein Mart around you? They have lots of accessories at pretty reasonable prices. And you ought to be able to find something that looks good with black and white ... not too splashy but just enough.

Blessings on your first day at work, Donna. And Dianne, thanks for sharing your name ... it's hard but I think we want to be a place where openness and honesty are exhibited.

If you are a praying person, I'd ask for your prayers ... I'm headed to a women's retreat where the infamous "snack table" awaits. It is loaded with stuff that is not good for any diet! They've done better over the years adding fruit and veggies and bottled water ... but there's still the M&M's to overcome (my downfall) and the trail mixes and the cookies SCREAMING OUT TO ME! I am taking South Beach snacks and another lady who is on the diet is bringing some too ... and we'll try to help each other along. But both of us have only lost 7 pounds and then plateaued ... and you all know what happens there!?!?!?!? Anyway, I'd appreciate your prayers.

And Lisa, you will be in mine. Hopefully we'll both be able to report back that we didn't go too far down the path of no return ... and that we're back ready to join the others in the path toward loss and not toward gain.

Blessings this weekend, my friends, Joan

Good Morning Everyone Well, I won't write much because I have Sooooo Much to do here at work before I leave. I am hoping to get out of here early today because I need to wash clothes pack and may be go buy some more Zicom at the store for the cruise but cause I keep getting hints of a cold wanting to start.

I want to Welcome Donna to our group

That tucking the shirt thing is has not happrned with me for about that past 3.5 months when I suddenly gained all this weight over th holidays. I seem to be getting this new buldge around the stomach. I guess that is why the Cartoon strip Cathy is another good one today.

Well, I hope Everyone has a wonderful week while I am gone. I am at the point that I am not stressing about the clothes any more nor am I going to worry about my weight on the cruise. Life is too short and 7 days on a beautiful cruise ship with enjoying wonderful food is what I plan to do

Good morning.

Donna, welcome!! I don't tuck my shirts in either, but I think the sash is a great idea, as is Jill's suggestion to tuck the shirt in loosely. It also depends on what style of pants you're wearing. An elastic waist may give you more "give," whereas a zipper front will not. Hope you find the style that will work best for you and make you feel the most comfortable.

Lisa, have a fantastic time on your cruise! The treadmill will be waiting for you when you get home, so it's great that you're not stressing about what you can't really control at this point anyway. You've cruised enough to know the drill re all the food temptations, so I know you'll make good choices and have a ball at the same time!

Freda, hope the injections do the trick for you and you get some relief from your pain.

Joan, it sounds like you are taking all the right steps toward preparing for the retreat this weekend. Yes, when I plateau my first impulse is to head to the fridge (or in your case, the infamous snack table ), but it's great that you'll have someone else there to partner with. Most importantly, it sounds like a wonderful opportunity to get away and be with nice people, so I hope you really enjoy yourself.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Laurie

Default Names

I just wanted to comment on online identities. JMO, but the person you should most be honest with is yourself and that is what is important.

My feeling is that's it's fine to use first names and I do and I also talk about my program and what my goals are here, but it is a public forum and I would never give out addresses, phone numbers or stuff like that...just like if I went to a WW meeting and just passed around my personal info to the entire group :-)

My goal is to be accountable to myself, follow the program I'm committing to, and to keep focused on what I'm doing here. The few days I've been here, I've enjoyed having people say "Hi!" and hearing from them that they too know the "rollercoaster" experience, but are working to return to a healthy place like I am.

Already, as I'm now in day 3 of Atkins, I like being able to post here that I made it through ANOTHER day and stayed on track (yea!) I'm very interested in reading about how other's are doing, what works for them and what doesn't, but I'm not really very interested in names, or that kind of thing. (Hopefully this doesn't sound critical of anyone here - that isn't my intent! Just an interesting subject and one I wanted to comment on )
