Belated Good Morning to all:

Not having a great morning myself. I had a hypo (hypoglycemic episode - blood sugar dangerously low) in the middle of the night so I guess I ate breakfast at 3 AM to get the BS up a little. I thought about calling it "medicinal" and not counting it, , but the weight-loss fairy made me feel too guilty to do that. So now, the day is all out of whack. Just have to do the best I can and keep my .

Wow, Carla, Welcome You are doing well with the weight loss. I have arthritis, too, so I know how you feel about needing to find some kind of exercise. I remember once, back in the dim, distant past, reading an article about something called "arming". Maybe I'll see if I can find something on the net. Has anybody out there heard about "arming", or any other forms of mainly seated exercise?

Good to see some of the "missing links" are coming back. I love this thread because it is so busy, there's always something to grab your attention going on. Let's face it, we all must be thankful for small victories. More time spent typing is less time spent eating

Have a great day, gang. See you soon.

Hi fellow achievers !

Hope everyone did good over the weekend. Sounds like most did pretty well. It's the hardest part of the week for me, as our schedule is pretty busy on Saturdays and Sundays. My husband is a minister at the Assembly of God church here, and that keeps us pretty busy.

I want to report my weigh-in this morning. I lost 2 pounds last week. HURRAY ! I was very happy about that. Today I plan to start a little walking routine. I will not go far today, or probably even this whole week, but I want to at least get my body use to going.

Welcome to our family ....Carla! Join in and get to know all of us. I am still fairly new myself, but I have really enjoyed the gals and guys who pop in and out to chat and report their progress and their struggles. We all have experienced both from time to time.

girlyyorky....Hope you can visit us often. This is a very nice group. Glad to meet you.

I will check in later to see what is going on, and catch up on the rports from the weekend. Never Say "I Quit" ! We will do this weight loss thingy .

Thumbs up

Good morning guys and gals, I am happy to report the loss of another pound! I know that doesn't seem like a lot but it makes me that much closer to my goal. And now I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. I am only 6 pounds from goal!!! Congrats to the rest of you that lost this week too. And the ones that didn't, don't worry, yu will. I went throught that plateau too and was getting annoyed and discouraged there for awhile.

CARLA, WELCOME! This is a great group and you will get lots of encouragement here. There is always someone available to give you a or a word of encouragement. Visit and talk to us often!

Meowee, Those hypoglucemic attacks aren't much fun are they? Do you get them often. Do you have a bedtime snack?

Carol, Yeah for you! You lost 2 pounds!! Way to go, Now start that walking program soon. It will help with the toning and the weight loss. Just chose a time every day that is convient and just GO! Start out slow. I remember the first time I tried, I got to the end of the block and had to sit down my legs were hurting so bad. But I pushed myself on and I can walk a LONG time now!

Sarah, I can relate, My husband is a food pusher too, but he's a closet pusher! He goes out and buys things for "HIM" that he doesn't even like, like butter pecan ice cream1 He knows it's my favorite and he doesn't even like it. He won't touch it and after awhile I just put it in the sink and run hot water or it intill it's gone. A waste I know, but better than on my waist! I know he loves me any weight but I get the feeling he is a little insecure about me losing weight.

Cheryl, It's easy to go out to eat and end up eating too much when you don't know the calories, isn't it? I try to have a menu with a calorie counter for most of the places I go. I keep them in the car so If we stop I know what I am going to eat. If I want something fattening, oh well, at least I planned for it, no surprises! Congrats on the weight loss!

Jill, I'm a night time eater, so I just plan for it. I think planning is the key for any diet. I know I'm going to eat at night, can't seem to brak the habit, but I can controle what I eat! I plan for snacks and make sure they are handy. popcorn, salsa and a few chips, cut up veggies and some low fat dip (that new carbwell has a low calorie buttermilk ranch that is great)

Yeah REGGIE, You are doing so well! You'e an inspiration!

Bunti, Exercise makes such a difference! It not only helps you lose weight, it makes you look better once you do lose the weight! If making posters help remmind you make an exercise poster and give yourself a check list (or a gold star) for every day you exercise!

Joan, Lifting weights will make such a difference and they are easy to do. I do mine while watching TV. I agree with the suggestion of starting with smaller weights and building up. And Target does have hand weights! Just go in and try some, see what weights you can lift comfortabally. They come on sale often and are so worth the purchase!

Flsunbakd, Enjoy your daughter while she's there! Sounds like you guys are having a great time! And you are managing to eat well too!

Laffin, I know you're getting excited about the trip now, it's almost time to start packing!

Life is often what we make it, so all of you Go make it a good day, Freda

Hello all

It's a nice sunshiny Monday here in Indiana and I'm happy to report that I lost a pound last week for a total of 8 pounds this year.

Congrats to all the losers and maintainers...and to anyone on this forum who is still here and sticking with it no matter if the scales rewarded you this week or not!

(Freda, I'm happy for you being only 6 pounds from goal!!!)

Howdy,

I see a few more of you are checking in this morning. I'm happy to see so many of you making good use of this forum. I have gotten to know a few of you now, and hope to learn more about everyone. I've discovered that when I come here, I seem to make a connection that helps me throughout my day. I am very grateful for everyone who shares their victories and the discouragments they are having. We all need to be close so we can help out each other with a few encouraging words. Everyone have a great day!

Hi everyone, well l am finally getting some relief from my illness. Diet went to the dogs last week, but l decided not to worry about it. Today starts a new day and getting back on track. Have not lost any weight this past week, but that okay. We had a cookout this Saturday it was Miss Kelsey's birthday, so we did a couple of Boston Butts, a Deer Ham and Turkey in the smoker and grilled chicken on the grill along with butter beans, tato salad, corn and more. l ate some but not too much, Yum? Thanks everyone for thinking about me while l was sick, you are all such a great wonderful bunch of friends. Bunti those are my grandsons in my avatar. Keirnen is 2 1/2 and Devlin is a little over a year. My 8 year old granddaughter,( my hubby and l are raising,) we have had her since birth and have adopted her. She is an angel, so tender hearted and loves people. Congratulations everyone who has lost weight, Cheryl and Freda 3lb weight loss is great, and cheryl sorry to hear about the hernia and you bleeding and hurting like that, hope you feel better. Lizzie hope your sinus gets better. Sarah my hubby is a food pusher too, everytime l start a diet program to lose weight he will bring home food l can't eat or want a pizza and tell me one piece won't hurt. Thing is he tells me l need to lose weight for my health, l am 4' 11 so l know l look like a little butterball. But l honestly think that there is a part of him that doesn't want me to lose all this extra weight. Sometimes its hard to figure them out? One good thing my 8 year old is my watchdog, can't eat any forbidden foods in front of her. Have a super day everyone, we have so many new people so l know l have missed some, so welcome and great day to everyone. Love Beth

WOW! What a great day! Welcome, CARLA! And congrats to all who lost or maintained! I am happy to report a 1.5 pound loss for a total of 7 since the beginning of the year. This is so incredibly great. I know I have at times lost enthusiasm because I think with as much weight as I have to lose I "should be" losing faster. But it is the "should"s that kill me ... and that lead to discouragement. So, no more. Any loss and a great loss ... even staying the same is great ... because the alternative is gaining and I've become much too comfortable with that option.

Freda and Linda ... I can't believe your attention to each one of us! What a blessing! Thanks for affirming each of our concerns and victories.

I think it is beginning to be very clear that we really are a support group even though we haven't been able to physically pat each other on the back or encourage each other face to face. Thanks for being there on Monday mornings and on Friday nights!

I think it is also really clear that exercise is critical ... and that, like Carol says, getting moving is the most important step (forgive the pun) we can make. So, Carla and Bunti, no matter how much you can do it will help just to do it. I've had bunion surgery and arthritis in one knee and it has made moving really, really difficult. But I have found that I can do 30 minutes on the treadmill with no elevation has worked ... and now I'm able to increase the speed and the elevation for a minute here and there. Let's keep encouraging each other in that arena too. Maybe arena is not a bad metaphor ... we're really fighting a battle! So, here's to slaying the dragon or the gladiator or the bull that is determined to knock us down.

Bye for now. BLessings, Joan

Yes! What a great day! I didn't weigh myself this morning....too much going on with trying to get Erin to the airport. Time for her to get back to her little family in Wyoming. They sure need her, and I am glad they were able to share her with me for a little while

I did weigh myself the other day and I had lost 1 pound...but am not going to change my weight-tracker until I see if that loss is real. So we shall see tomorrow morning. I'm OK either way

Welcome to anyone new and YAY to all the oldies who have lost or maintained!! I have been reading most of the posts, but no time to answer until a little later in the week when HH goes back to work.

In the meantime....Glad to read all about everyone and all that's going on! I still have to get to Target for those little weights to use while watching TV.

Hugs, Chicks!!

I will read and write later, I see I have a lot to catch up on. Not a good weekend plus did not exercise due to the body is really trying hard to come down with a cold and I am taking Zicam and lots of vitamins.
I did want to post this cartoon from the Cathy strip today that I thought said it all. Just click the thumbnail to enlarge it

Good morning, all!

Carla, WELCOME!! I'm glad you found us!!

Freda and Lydia, congratulations on your weight loss!! Sounds like everyone is doing their best to stay focused on the bigger picture and is staying on track.

Jill, I'm so glad you've had this time with your daughter. As for that dark chocolate, well, you know we can have a "bite" 3x a week. You just had yours all in one shot I'm also a dark chocolate lover, and at least there are some health benefits to those bites. I saw your post re barbells, and I agree that you should start light and work your way up. My Target does have 1,2,3 lb. weights, so perhaps your store will, too. Otherwise, even Walmart or another general store might carry them. Even when I was weight training 3x a week, the most I would use for my arms was 12.5 each. The reps are what's important.

Linda, I have heard of seated exercises, but didn't know specifics. I did a google search for you and found this site to start: http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/san...cription.shtml. Hope it helps.

Well...I had an up/down week. Thank you to those who offered condolences re my friend. The service was really wonderful and hundreds of people were there.

On Saturday, my son, the bottomless pit, wanted to go to Hometown Buffet for dinner. He's 6' tall, 150 lbs. and a baseball player (nope...doesn't take after me at all!!) I'm trying to be positive here, and overall, I do feel I did well: no fried foods, no potatoes, no breads/rolls, no desserts (still don't have major sugar cravings), no salad dressings other than what was already on the prepared ones I chose. My one real indulgence as, of all things, baked beans! Yes, they were no doubt in a sugary sauce, but at least the beans had protein and fiber! . I also kept the portions very small. So, no weight loss last week, but I did get right back on track yesterday and will keep plugging away.

Sure, I've noticed a lot of physical changes this month, and I'm really happy about them, but I need to see that number drop on the scale. Yes, sometimes I think it's silly, but it's just another indication that I've accomplished something -- maybe not as satisfying as getting into a smaller size, but an accomplishment nonetheless.

Hope everyone has a great day and a great week!!

Laurie

Oh that is SO me too....but one thing sticks in my brain from this group....someone has it on the bottom of their posts by their signature and it says,

"What do you REALLY want?"

I have had that pop into my brain as I was trying to decide if I could be strong enough to NOT order the fries or dessert...and IT WORKED!

In that instant I decided that I WANT to be thinner & healthier more than I wanted to taste those fries or ice cream!!

Thanks so much to whichever of us chose that for their "motto"! I wish I could remember who it is!

Default Got Room For One More?

Hi! My name is Marsha, and I'm in my fifties and frustrated. Hope you have room to add me to your support group as I have proven over and over that I can't do it alone. I need regular support and encouragement from women fighting a similar battle who understand how hard it is -- especially the older we get!

I'm 57, have been widowed for 10 years and live alone with a cat named Cupid. Out of state I have two stepsons, both married, and in a little over one year's time have acquired a daughter-in-law and THREE grandchildren. I want to be able to keep up with them and walk all over DisneyWorld when they get older. And I still have visions of myself in a sexy, slinky dress salsa dancing all night in Puerto Vallarta (my favorite vacation destination).

I have no excuses for not being able to stock my kitchen with healthy foods, follow a meal plan and get regular exercise, yet I continually make them for myself. I'm digusted with my lack of follow through (I'm a 3x WW dropout) and am recommiting to get fit and stay that way.

I just weighed in a 244.2 this morning and have a long term goal of 140-145. I have a long way to go but have to start and SUSTAIN the effort. I just joined Curves plus have quite a variety of workout tapes, a stability ball, stretchy bands, etc. at home. I haven't yet finalized an eating plan, but I'm leaning toward doing the WW point thing here at home since I have the materials. I'd rather, however, get my support online and through friends rather than sit in yet another meeting. So, can I be a part of your group? I promise to be equally supportive.

Marsha

Hi Marsha! There's always room for one more ... many of us feel the same way that you do. We don't want to go ONE MORE TIME to WW and sit through the meetings only to find that we really would be better served with friends who encourage us more regularly. A lot of this stuff we know very well ... we just have trouble making it work. So, come on in and join the party. We may not see each other's faces but that doesn't matter. So far I'm finding this is working better than anything I have ever tried before. I hope it will for you too.
