  • WELCOME BARB!!

I know exactly what you mean. I am now just doing lower calorie and thinking of it as a lifestyle - not a diet. I guess I would call myself a 'flexitarian' - and nothing is absolutely forbidden. I used to do Atkins and then it just stopped working. I used the ketostrips and everything. I know think that is because I didn't eat enough. If you don't eat enough calories your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to every bit of fat ya' got

Hi to everyone else - no, Freda, haven't heard of that magazine - i will check it out. It is a little cold here and I think I have a little cold too. Really tired. I don't think I will go work out because I don't want to get anyone else sick.

Here's a recipe I picked up on another thread that sounds pretty good. Oh heck, it might have even been this thread!! You know, the mind goes sometime!! -

    Chocolate eclair dessert

Instant Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding (make according to package)
Instant Sugar Free Chocolate Pudding (make according to package)
8 oz. tub of lite Cool Whip

Mix sugar-free vanilla pudding with an 8oz tub of lite Cool Whip. Layer the vanilla pudding/Cool Whip mix in between reduced-fat graham crackers in a 9x13 (or 8x8, which will give you a 'higher' dessert) baking dish, then when the vanilla pudding is used up, add one more layer of the graham crackers, then top the whole thing off using the chocolate pudding as icing. Cover and put in the fridge for a few hours (or even overnight) so the graham crackers can soften and there ya go.

Don't know the exact calorie amount, but because it's lite Cool Whip, reduced-fat graham crackers and sugar-free pudding, it's not much per serving.

Oh, you change the colors by going to the underlined A next to fonts & sizes - pull down the menu and there are all the colors.
  • Hey Chicks!

Boy....I've been reading thru the posts and it looks like many of you are REALLY freezing your butts off! Our daughter lives in Woming up near Cody & Yellowstone and it's -11 there for a high today! Too bad it's not possible to literally "freeze our butts off"!! If that were true I'd be moving North! Well....since it's not true, I'll be staying here in the tropics!

Today we rode our HOG over to the beach and rode along the coast from New Smyrna down to Cocoa near the Space Center. Saw eagles, dolphin and a couple of manatee along the way! It was EIGHTY today....we had lunch at the end of the Cocoa Beach Pier as we watched the surfers and beach-goers down below. I stayed on-plan except for those 2 Mich Ultras I had Nice day! Guess we rode about 250 miles. When we went across the causeway at Port Canaveral, the Sovereign of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) was in port. I always love to SEE the ships if I can't be ON one!

That Eclair recipe looks like a keeper Thanks!

Hope ya'll have a wonderful Saturday Night....cuddle up and STAY WARM!

Here's a cute joke that maybe some of you can relate to!

    Dear Tide:
I am writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've used it
all of my married life, as my Mom always told me it was the best. Now
that I am in my fifties I find it even better! In fact, about a month
ago, I spilled some red wine on my new white blouse. My inconsiderate
and uncaring husband started to belittle me about how clumsy I was, and
generally started becoming a pain in the neck.

One thing led to another and somehow I ended up with his blood on
my new white blouse! I grabbed my bottle of Tide with bleach alternative,
and to my surprise and satisfaction, all of the stains came out!

In fact, the stains came out so well the detectives who came by
yesterday told me that the DNA tests on my blouse were negative and
then my attorney called and said that I was no longer considered a suspect
in the disappearance of my husband.

What a relief! Going through menopause is bad enough without being a
murder suspect! I thank you, once again, for having a great product.
Well, gotta go, have to write to the Hefty bag people.
  • Hi gals, Finally left for Fargo at 11 am, but I sure hated to leave the nice and toasty warm car once we got there. It was a quick trip to get a few things at Sams Club, and buy track shoes and a swim suit for our foster daughter. Wish the town that is only 25 miles from us had a better selection of shoes and clothes, but they don't, so it's 80 miles to Fargo.
I had a good day and stayed in my points. Had lunch at Qudoba Mexican Grill, yummy chicken burrito filled with black beans, rice and pico de gallo salsa.

Sounds like you ladies all had a good day. Here's to the weekend. Hope we all stay on program and not get tempted with goodies.

Jill...I loved the joke. Sounds like you had a really nice bike ride. 80 degrees...Oh that would feel so nice.

    Till later,

    Cheryl
  • Morning ladies. Thanks for those that responded to my post and made me feel welcome. Its kind of hard finding this particular thread because there are so many posts to keep track of. Well Ive decided that Im going to read the Sonoma Diet book that is on the way and maybe try it or the Core plan. I will see the pro's and the con's of each plan and the one that suits me the best I will do. Will keep you updated on my progress and you all have a great day...barb
  • Good News For Me, Chicks!

HH and I have decided to turn our x-tra
    bedroom into a work-out room!

We're going to buy and elliptical or gazelle trainer.

Need input on these. Does anyone here have one at home that they love or hate??

    Thanks!!
  • hi
Good Morning everyone, I had to go for my 2'nd roung of steroid epidurals yesterday. I was dreading it to start with but had a bad reaction! I went in at noon and didn't get home intill 8 last night. The ER doctor said I had a "Severe steroid reaction". My left arm got heaby and numb and my fingers were tingly and it started to go up my neck. Usually I'm pretty calm about these things (i'm an rn) but that kind of shook me up. My BP was 189/110. No more epieurals for me. AND, on top of that I couldn't eat or drink anything while I was in the hospital, so had nothing to eat or drink since 11. By the time we got out I was starving!!! Stopped at a burger place and got burgers and fries!!! Broke my all time rule, don't wait intill you're starving and don't do fst food. I guess this proves that there are exceptions to every rule.

Barb. Glad to have you join us. It will take you awhile to learn every one but after awhile you will just be part of the family! I hope you find a diet that suits you and that you can stick with. Almost any diet works, it's staying with it. Adding exercise, of course.

Meow, We like the same kind of books! Give me blood and guts any day. Do you read Dean Koontz too?

Cheryl, Guess I can stop complaining about the cold here! It's warm compaired to where you are! Stay warm!!

Surf, That Chocolate eclair recipe sounds YUMMY! And so easy, my kind of recipe! I hope you didn't come down with a cold. Take care, but if you do, see me for a hot toddy recipe. It may not help the cold but you won't care!

Jill, Good one!! You're turning your spare room into a guy!! How great is that! No more excuses not to exercise. Really, it just makes it so much easier. Be sure there is a tv in there too, or a radio, which ever you prefer. makes it so much easier. I don't know much about either machine. I do have a bike and a treadmill and a lot of other equipment, but i have to say the treadmill is my choice. What ever you choice, make sure it's something you can do for awhile and don't mind.

Hope everyone has a good day, Freda
  • OOPS, Jill, I just re-read my post and saw that you were turning your spare room into a GUY! Heck, if he's cute I might try that too!
  • HELLO . . . I was getting a little panicky. We had a terrible wind storm overnight and I guess it's what knocked our my internet connection. It just came back. Wow did I ever feel cut off from the world.

Heard about three really bad accidents caused by all the ice and wind along the southern edge of the eastern half of the country (i.e., between Toronto and here). We're talking 50 and 60 vehicles in each and some very serious injuries as well as a couple of deaths. I'm concerned that I haven't heard from many of my on-line buddies along that corridor yet. Hope everyone is OK.

The sun has been out all day today, making it look a lot warmer than it really is. At least we haven't had any new snow (too cold to snow) although they are still telling us to stay off the roads because of the black ice which the day of sun hasn't been able to melt.

Oh, yeah, I definitely like Dean Koontz. Some of his stuff is so intense, he makes King look like a romance novelist. Unfortunately I don't have any thing from either one of them in the house right now, but I am reading a good mystery/intrigue thing by Michael Chrichton . . . about global warming or, at least global weather change. The kind of winter we've been having really makes you wonder??

Anyway, time to go. Keep on keeping on everybody and we'll see you all soon.
  • Hi
Thank you for this group, I think it's what I need to help motivate myself.

I am 56 (last November) and trying to lose weight yet one more time! I have tried WW and Atkins with excellent results as far as losing the pounds, but as soon as I get bored and start eating "normally" they all come back. I don't have any health problems, but I want to prevent any down the road, plus let's face it--I want to look good.

On 1/20 I woke up and decided this is the day that I start losing weight for good and ordered the Sonoma Diet book. While waiting for the book to arrive I surfed the web and found this site, then decided on the South Beach Diet. I lost 9 pounds the first two weeks but got complacent--an extra tablespoon peanut butter here, a few nuts there--and have been stuck at the same weight for almost a week.

I know that if I want to reach my goal I have make the diet a lifestyle AND I have to get serious about exercise, but I SOOOO hate it. Any suggestions?
  • Hi
Freda...Oh my! So glad to hear you are all right!! You are so lucky that you had the reaction right a way, it could of been much worse. Hope you are feeling better real soon. Sorry, but after having gone through something like that, burger and fries would of been just the start Your back on track today, so no damage done, and if we can't have an occasional burger or fries at times then we will never stay on a program.

It's been a lazy Saturday for me. Did a little sewing on my quilt, took a much needd nap and trying to stay warm. Still feels like the Artic here. We are suppose to start warming up by Monday.

Try to check back later. Have a good evening everyone.

    Cheryl
  • Welcome jrnyc
jrnyc to the group Look forward to getting to know you.

A little bit about myself, I'm 52 and I'm doing weight watchers points. I've lost 11 pounds since the 4th of January. This site is wonderful, I love the support and motivation we all receive from each other. You will love it here.

    Cheryl
  • A big welcome for you, jrnyc. I'm sure you'll love this site as much as the rest of us do. Sounds like you are definitely on the right track . . . we have to stop thinking "diet" vs "normal eating" and start thinking "this is my lifestyle now".

See you soon, and once again, welcome to the "gang".
  • Hello everyone, its been awhile. I miss you all lots, but am stilll having trouble accessing certain sites on my slow dialup. I saw awhile back where someone asked about the quick-reply button...it is the only way I can post with a slow connection. But I am lurking to see what is going on, you guys rock!!!

Welcome Barb and jrnyc. glad to meet you. This thread has a flock of lovely, caring and inspiring chicks,(and our rooster friend .) Great ideas, sharing of goals, and lots of true support.

So, Hugs, Hello and congrats most everyone else. Too much to mention, so trust that you are all as ever so inspiring. Am not losing right now, but am working out and feeling better, and not gaining....so that is something. In fact it is ALOT!

Sounds like everyone had a terrific Valentines Day. I did too. Went to dinner, had a lovely Cobb salad. Yumm. And then 2 pieces of dark chocolate. double yumm.

Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone.
  • Hello Chickies.
Wow. My first time ever to post any thing anywhere. I found this thread and like it a lot. Finally people who could relate to my issues, maybe?

A little background info:Scandinavian born, married to a Texan, I live in Oman, a little known country in the Middle East, totally peaceful and friendly. I just turned 54, creeping weight gain, not too serious yet but I can't seem to loose any at all. That is the frustrating part.

I exercise 4-5 times a week, running and tennis alternate days. Run ca. 4 miles on the average, tennis practice and games ca 5 hours a week. Plus the occational walk on the beach. All that is good, but on the other hand I enjoy my dinners and wine, no desserts. A couple of times a week I go out for draught beer, my favorite, usually 1 or 2 pints. All this good living is tied in to a long marriage, a husband who does not have a weight problem, (he is very agreeable to whatever I serve, and we mostly eat at home).

I saw the Sonoma Diet review on this site, liked the sound of it, and am bying the book today from Amazon. Hope to stop the "creeping" weight, loose a few pounds to where my clothes fit properly again.
I want to be one of you ladies who announce that you have lost x pounds this week or month. Does anyone out there have any experince with the Sonoma diet and exercise, similar age, etc.?
greetings from Dollidot ( name of one of my cats)
  • Stopping by to say I've lost another pound. Down from 189 to now 177 and couldn't be more thrilled! I've had a hard time getting used to manuevering around the site, finding my posts etc. Have read all the "stickys" but guess I'm one of those that has to do it in order to understand it. Soooo, I'm experimenting my way around. Gosh, you may never see me again! lol

I've had a hard time with the ticker also. Seems I can't get from one page to the other without an error so...I've given up on that idea.

Will continue to try to figure out the site as I'd love to participate in more threads and discussions! I will also move forward going into my 7th week on The Beach...doing my WATP video's because it's so blasted cold outside...taking my supplements for the Insulin Resistance...and pray that I continue to move forward!

    Susan
