Well it sounds like you are doing good....there is nothing better than doing cardio and weights (light).....What kind of machine does your sister have. You could use your husbands hand weights and barbells....great workout! Before we downsized and sold our house I did all my woking out at home, with handweights and barbells with bench. Also have treadmill, recumbent bike and tapes.....
I have been working on my arms for a year and a half and finally they look good....The hard work does pay off.....However it is more apparent with the weight loss.... |
I don't know what kind of machine it is.. It has the stations like the overhead pull down bar, the leg lift one, and I think the one that you squeeze your legs or arms...and you can adjust the amount of weight by moving the pin
|
Is it big and takes up quite abit of room? If it's what I'm thinking those are great machines, you can do many body parts on them.....I would just go over there and play around with it....all the gyms use (and still do) have them....
|
yeah thats the one...I told her i would like to try it...thanks for the encouragement
|
What would be great is if Curves and LAWL hooked up and we could go there for free! LOL
|
Beanie - It sounds like, if you get working out at your rate and keep pushing you would be too advanced for Curves anyhow....JMHO
|
well walked the 1+ mile with husband yesterday...he really pushes me we did it in 23 minutes!
We will go again later today! |
mrs beanie - You did better than me.....I had grandbabies all weekend and am exhausted today - I need a couple more days off....lol
Will go to Jazzercise tonight....... Also would like to comment on DH involvement - I love that!!! I wish my DH would like exercise more, it just makes it so much better when you do it together... MY DH went to the doctor last week, had to weigh, came home and had a pout on his cute little face and said "Honey Bubby, I'm fat" I looked at him with a smile and said "Oh really?" Only becuz I'm always the one on a eating plan and workout plan, always begging him to join me.... ;) |
Hey fit chicks....it's been a while, but i'm back on track. I allowed some out of town guests to give me an excuse to fall completely off the wagon (plan wise and exercise wise)...but my lapse will not become a relapse. Even though I was exhausted last night I managed 2.25 miles on treadmill and another 3 miles through neighborhood with DH. Tonight will be more of the same!
Star-Way to go, your ticker looks fantastic and I'm using as my inspiration to drag myself back to my stats....i'm going to be in denial until then ;-) Take care, Jen |
Hi Jen - Have missed you......we all fall off from time to time. You know the drill.....lol
Last night - Jazzercise - Cardio Quick....with some hand weights - oh-rah - one hour This A.M....Gym - treadmill 40 minutes (the opening employee was late today) Back to gym tomorrow......tonight - REST.....oh-rah |
Yoga this afternoon - 45 mins with a new instructor. She was on some kick about "opening us up due to the full moon tonight." I got charley horses in both feet during the class and both of my legs fell asleep. I can hardly walk. Plus, I didn't break a sweat, didn't even have to shower. I don't feel as though I have worked out. :?:
|
Well I have been sidelined due to injury...ARGGGGG...Sunday night I stubbed my little toe...OUCH.... I know I must have broken it.... I didn't know something so dadgum little could hurt so bad....it was so swollen I couldn't even tape it to my other toes....Went to the dr and she just said well I can give you pain pills or we can cut it off...UMMM Cut it off please!! LOL
|
Carmen - I know what you mean, I like to sweat and to feel the burn. But the fact that you got cramps in your feet and legs isn't good. I have the same problem. Mine isn't due to working out as much to not enuf water and potassium, plus my bunions add to the problem....cramps are no fun and when I get them I try to think why that happened. I don't mind soreness but not cramps....ouch......
You can do a streach workout that is very benificial without sweat though...I think it's just a matter of what we like and don't like. And your finding all that out now - so good for you chick! mrsbeanie - hope your injury heals soon...the important thing is to know when to give it a rest and heal..... |
I find that taking my multivitamin helps to keep away the cramping. That and cooling down from the excersize instead of just stopping all of a sudden.

Welcome back Star!
FormerSkinny - Thanks for the tips. I think I spoke too soon about the yoga. I didn't sweat true enough, but yesterday I was sooo sore I literally couldn't move without whimpering. Today its not so bad, but it still really hurts in my thighs and chest muscles. I was wondering about the cramping. I don't take potassium supplements, but I do have my Morton's salt and a banana every day. I got cramps in my feet when she had us balancing on one foot and 2 hands, then she made us lift one arm over our heads so we were balanced just on the one foot and one hand, like the ice skaters do. I think my weight was too much for the single foot? Dunno. I couldn't work out yesterday (actually couldn't even walk) due to the soreness in my legs. It probably would have done some good just to try anyway, but my thighs were inflamed. Still are a little bit. But I am going back to yoga today, then for a walk this evening. Wish me luck. |
Carmen- Why don't you mention the cramping to the yoga instructor...she surely would have some answers......I still don't think cramping is normal or a good thing like soreness is......Good for you for going back - bite the dog that bit you right?
|
Yog-ilates today - 50 minutes. My legs feel so much better after having worked them out! Spoke to the instructor about the cramping in my feet, and she said that when I feel that coming on that I should break posture, and stretch.
Worked up a MAJOR sweat today, plus I can really feel the tension in my abs and arms (where I really need it the most). My dad and DH are Navy men but... OOH RAH! :D |
Oh-Rah....
Today - Gym :tread: 50 minutes
Eliptical - 10 minutes.... :carrot: Surgery is Monday won't be in the yard for atleast 3 weeks - I will miss it here......Just remember I will be here in spirit and will be :drill: :coach: you chicks from the sidelines of my sofa...... ;) |
Missed Yoga today due to work issues. I do plan to get down there and hit the elliptical though, which I probably need more than the yoga at this point. I can go down there in a half hour, then do my thing, get showered and back up here with enough time to wrap things up at work and still catch my bus!
Mary, yes I've seen that breathing space yoga show. That lady has the most relaxing voice. Now I finally know where the phrase "WOOOO SAAAAAAH" comes from ! EWWW that laughin' punkin shore is freaky. |
Okay so...30 mins on the elliptical at the fitness center. I tried the "hills" program...BRUTAL! But I did burn 380 some cals. I almost quit about 1 million bazillion times, but I did feel so good after completing it. What I feel right now is a cross between exhilaration and exhaustion, with exhilaration barely winning out. I thought the more you worked out the easier it was supposed to get? :?:
|
Carmen - That is true, but it takes awhile. On the other hand, you don't want it to be too easy....You want to feel like your really working... YOU go girl - you ROCK!!!! :coach: :cp: :drill:
Pretty you will look like this :carrot: |
Tonight is my last night for Jazzercise until after my recovery. It just so happens that I am paid thru October 27. I will renew when my doctor says I can exercise again, hopefully not more thank six (yuck) weeks..........
Now I have to figure out how to not gain weight while recovering......I hope I just won't be hungry since I won't be doing anything physical......(cross my fingers) |
I had meetings yesterday afternoon, and could not workout after work because DS is selling popcorn for Cub Scouts and I had to go on "collection rounds". Today, I forgot my T shirt and extra undies. I am thinking about going down into the mall to buy a new T shirt and some undies. I REALLY need the undies anyway, but don't want to buy them at Lane Bryant ($$$), PLUS when I get the undies I will want the matching bra ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$). I'm funny that way, it seems my underwear cost more than my clothes. TMI I know and downright strange to boot. That being said, I have a lunch meeting, after which I will try to sneak down into the mall to get the things I need, and then I will try to get to the FC today at 4:00, after my last meeting of the day. I will miss Yog-ilates, but I can hit the elliptical.
I will not have problems such as forgetting my workout stuff once I earn my locker at the FC. Once you have a locker, they will wash and dry your workout clothes for you, which is GRREAT! In order to earn your locker, you have to visit the center at least 10X per month, for 2 consecutive months. I was short 2 visits in September, but I have made goal for October. Now to get November out of the way. Sorry so long...probably should have put all this in my journal. :o |
Star- We will all be thinking about you....take care
|
Swimming and Water Retention?
Hi Fit Chicks. Does anyone here know if swimming and sauna's will ultimately lead to water retention? It would seem that the sauna would reduce water in the body, but I've noticed that every week when I get home from the rec center that I am bloated. :?:
P.S. Star - I miss you already, Girlfriend... |
last night -
Apartment Gym - 30 minutes recumbent bike.....30 mintues elliptical......while watching tv.........oh-rah....... Carmen - I'm not sure about the water retention, but I vote to go along with Marys opinion on this one.....I love the steam room.......use to use it at Ballys all the time.... I will check in here on Monday, as my surgery has been changed to Tuesday..... |
OMG the Exercise Yard has slipped to page 2! Star would be appalled!
Well Star girlfriend, never fear... I went to the FC today and looked at the elliptical, and my lungs said H3LL no. So I opted for the treadmill, put in 45 minutes on it, and JOGGED for 8 of them. JOGGED! I have never done that in my adult life. Granted, they weren't all in a row, but I did it. I'd walk for 4 minutes, jog for 1. Walk for 5 mins, jog for 2 etc. I'm beat but...so proud of myself. |
Okay, Went to the FC and spent 35 mins on the elliptical at level 5. 420 cals out.
|
Yogilates - 45 minutes - the class was tough, but not ridiculously so. I thought it was great!
|
:sorry: Poking my head in looking around shamefully. :rollpin: ...:drill: I need some MOTIVATION as my marine hubby would say.. I pledge to go walking at least twice from now until Saturday. Hows that??? Chklit :thanks:
|
Too funny! Well I'm glad your foot is well enough to walk on. When I broke mine, the dr said to put as much weight on it as I can bear, BUT we are all different. I must say though it will be nice to have company again in the Yard. I'm no :drill: or :coach: and I certainly wouldn't :rollpin:, but I'm glad you're coming back!
|
So far this week...
Sunday: Easy Steps video (I modify it slightly by adding arm movements to all the spots where they have their hands on their hips) Monday: Winsor Pilates 20 minute workout |
This is weird...
Okay so I didn't feel like going to the FC but I went because:
- I want exercising to be a permanent part of my life - I really don't like to exercise but I am hoping it will grow on me - Went off plan like a mofo this weekend, need to get back in the swing of things That being said... I worked for 40 mins on the elliptical, and my heart rate was in the 160s the whole time. I wasn't very tired, but after about 30 minutes I was feeling it. Here comes the weird part: normally when I hit the elliptical, I am wanting to quit at about minute # 7 or 8, my heart rate is lower, and I am BEAT afterwards. Today I have all this energy. I wonder if it is because I went off plan over the weekend and had more calories to burn? If I could guarantee that I'd feel this good after every workout I'd really be looking forward to going more often. I pray that today was not a fluke... :?: |
Carmen~ wish you can bottle up that energy and send soem my way
|
Shennie I will trade you the energy for some of your consistent losses! ;)
|
we can go half, because the loosing isn't goign to mean anything if i don't get to the gym and do some toning ...almost 20 pouns gone and I still don't see any of it.
Plus don't worry about the scale as much. You are obviuosly getting healthier, look at the work you put in a the FC. |
Yog-ilates today - 45 mins. The class was pretty tough. My triceps will hurt later.
