Cardio was yesterday, with abs........love cardio days!
Today was weights with abs .......went really good, love lifting too.........
Only problem, everytime one body part starts to show real improvement, I find another one that needs attention - when will this stop? I guess since I love to workout anyhow it's all good.

#1 Way to speed up your Metabolism

:coffee: Read this article in "Fitness" magizine this morning at the gym (cardio day).....

In a nutshell, they put four women on different methods of workout/nutritonal plans to see which method supercharged metabolism. The program lasted eight weeks. Here where the four different plans;
*The Strength Plan
*The Cardio Plan
*The Nutrition Plan
*The Strength/Cardio Plan

Note: Since diet is a vital part of the metabolic equation, each woman alsor worked with a dietician (for weight maintenance, consume the same number of calories as your TMR each day).

The Winner - The Strength/Cardio Combo - :strong: :ebike: :cp:
The plan: Cardio 30 to 40 minutes three to four times a week. Weight lifting 2 times a week (alternate body parts).
She boosted her metabolism 61 percent, she lost inches all over and dropped her body fat by nearly 2%.

Note: It was noted at the bottom, if your already working out regularly, don't be surprised if your response isn't as overwhelming as this.

I thought this was worth posting ;)

buttonsinabox 06-10-2005 01:36 PM

Anyone do curves?? What do you all think of it??
Thanks
Beth

Star 06-10-2005 02:10 PM

Beth -
I checked Curves out just out of curiousity......I think it is good for people that are new to exercise. Also for people who haven't exercised in awhile (pregnant, sick, surgery, etc). JMO ofcourse.

Just went to COD - down one pound........

buttonsinabox 06-10-2005 03:01 PM

So do you think a reg gym would be better?? Im doing the deeptone and am seeing restults already in 3 weeks but I know I need the cardio as well... I have a 1000 dollar treadmill and I just can't seem to get on the beast... I think its because Its here at home and Im here all the friggen time looking at it... I need some 30 somethingish trainer to come crack the whip I think..

Good job on the pound by the way!

Star 06-10-2005 03:26 PM

Beth - What yu need to do is cardio, rather it's at home on that clothes hanger treadmill or at the gym with a 'hot young trainer.' ;) Only thing is you don't really need a trainer for cardio (unless you need the eye candy) :o

A habit takes 21 days to form, it could be free at home on the treadmill or at a gym where you pay and it could still be a treadmill :?: If I were you I would set a time, like 6 a.m. get up put on your workout clothes and get on the beast.....try it for atleast afew weeks, start out with like 15 minutes, work your way up. If you hate it, then go and pay at a gym. How does that sound?

buttonsinabox 06-10-2005 05:54 PM

 I know I dont need a trainer for that.. i need motivation I think kinda like a carrot on a stick... or should I say a pc of cheesecake.. anyway im gonna push myself just to do it.. maybe if it wasn't in the basement but up stairs so I can see outside.. hmmm... I just wasn't sure if I needed to workout more weights too thanks

Star 06-13-2005 09:37 AM

Beth - Do you have a tv in your basement? When I had my home gym, my stuff was in the basement too. The big screen tv really helped me do my time on the treadmill (beast)...lol Actually I had to turn the tv up real loud becuz my beast was loud. If someone would have broken in the house I would have never known.........

Star 06-13-2005 09:42 AM

Oh almost forgot - Gym today - cardio day with abs...it was great! Also rode my bike about 20 miles at Saturday morning - I forgot how much I love to ride my bike - it was great!

Star 06-14-2005 09:19 AM

Gym today - circuit training - great workout. Love the feeling of power and muscle. I can see my work paying off, the muscle is showing now. My arms are looking good. This gives me reason to keep doing everything I'm doing. (Plus I LOVE working out)

auditgirl 06-14-2005 09:28 AM

Hey Star-I'm still doing cardio like a mad person and trying to find the time/energy to get in some strength training. Keep posting about all the great benefits and hopefully that will get me motivated! We still have our gym membership until the end of the year and I think i just keep thinking the 'all or nothing' approach...I know I won't be able to make it 3 days a week with a day of rest in between, but I bet I can make it two days...something to think about.

Jen

Star 06-14-2005 09:53 AM

Jen -- Two days a week would be great - matter of fact that's what I do now....
If you go - you will see results!!!!
So glad you are loving cardio. You know having the love for working out is a huge bonus! we are very lucky.....
Hugs.....

auditgirl 06-14-2005 10:35 AM

Oh-I don't know that I love it, but I do love to eat and I know if I don't work out I have far less leeway ;-) I can say it is a routine and a priority!!!!

Star 06-14-2005 10:41 AM

Well, sounds like you have it down to a science and you know what works for you. I don't have that much logic - that's why it's a blessing that I love to do it......lol

Star 06-15-2005 08:48 AM

At the gym this a.m. ran into an old workout buddy, who works at the hospital with gastric bypass patients. Made me realize how lucky I am and made me push myself alittle harder on the treadmill (with a smile on my face). Did 3 Miles in 45 minutes.

Star 06-16-2005 10:44 AM

weights - 45min. see some improvement in thighs - must be the inner/outter thigh machine..

auditgirl 06-16-2005 10:46 AM

I walked 3.5 miles at the track, then went home and walked another 3 miles with DH. Tonight I plan 5 miles at the track and bowling night ;-)

Star 06-16-2005 03:38 PM

Jen - According to you walking schedule, I figure you should way about 150 right now.......and look at you - got DH out there too....WTG

Star 06-17-2005 11:59 AM

Friday - Went to gym - cardio day - get to look at magizine - cool!
3 miles - 45 minutes and abs ofcourse.
If this thread doesn't pick up by Monday, I will stop posting here.......

Karen 06-17-2005 12:48 PM

Well Star...Hopefully I'll be posting here in the morning... :ebike:

Star 06-17-2005 01:03 PM

Karen - you know my two favorite things are chocolate and exercise. Hum, I guess I could start a "Chocolate" thread........
lol

buttonsinabox 06-17-2005 03:12 PM

30 min on the beast.. at 3.5 going up and down hill and flat ... 2 bars on the fat burning thingy.. lol I was going to try for 45 mins but someone wouldn't leave me alone.. vacations fun but not if hubbys just sitting here...lol Im thinking I may try to do the easy step tape after my food settles a bit..

Ok just did the easy steps for 20 min I think it is... right at first I thought the band was a joke but after a bit I have to say that omg it was hard...LOL Tomorrow is deep tone in the morning... my goal is to be doing something everyday...

Star 06-17-2005 04:40 PM

Great goal Beth........we got to keep it moving.........
That could even be chasing DH around the house........

buttonsinabox 06-17-2005 04:45 PM

yeah chasing him with a :rollpin: He was working on our daughters car and he wanted a mecahnics helper.. Arrgghhh and thats not me, he should know that by now..

buttonsinabox 06-18-2005 04:13 PM

its saturday i did deeptone for an hour and then the beast for 30 minl..

My deeptone instructor who used to have a big belly told me to do the beast like this....5 min warm up then every 2 min raise the incline until your all the way up then go back down the same way... OMG did I feel that even though I only made it halfway because that same person is still home on vacation until monday..

buttonsinabox 06-19-2005 02:36 PM

sunday...... the beast.. 3.44 miles... 78.04 min....117g fat.... 375 cals.. and throbbing legs and butt...

OK, I know the beast is some kind of exercise equipment, but what exactly? Treadmill, exercycle, eliptical trainer....What?? :D

Whatever it is, it sounds like you are kicking its butt while it kicks yours!

Star 06-20-2005 08:37 AM

Morning Fit Chicks! Welcome

Today - Gym :tread: 45 minutes, 3 miles.........felt good....
Welcome EweWho/Regina....

buttonsinabox 06-20-2005 09:17 AM

 Regina the beast is a treadmill.. I hate it and I hate doing it but I know the fat that I have is not going to go away unless I use it... so yes its kicking my butt, my goal is to wear it out before it wears me out.. welcome by the way!

Star when you do the treadmill do you do it at diff inclines or just flat ?? Just curious, yesterday I cycled thru the 2 min at each incline and it took forever.. but I guess after I got to about 5.5% I had to back off the speed a little.. or maybe it was a lot.. I didn't want to die in the basement alone..

buttonsinabox 06-20-2005 11:10 AM

treadmill.....3 miles... 62 min.... feels good now that im sitting down....

Star 06-20-2005 12:38 PM

Beth - Looks like you picked up your speed some - way to go!
I have bunions and so I can't use the incline more than like .05, or so says my foot doctor. Since I'm trying to avoid surgery forever if I can, I don't go any higher than that. I still burn the same calories and do other exercises for butt, inner and outer thighs. Oh I guess that's why you were slower the other day, messing with the incline....ha-ha

buttonsinabox 06-20-2005 02:49 PM

 yeah Star I was screwing around with the incline... I guess that must be working my butt and thighs because Im soooooo sore there now... since I don't have other machines to do im guessing thats the way I should do it do you think??

Star 06-20-2005 02:59 PM

Beth - I think I should be asking you the questions - I just read the other thread where you lost 5 inches in a month - that is awesome.....so just keep on doing what your doing...it's working! Way to Go and give the beast a hug....lol

brittyboo07 06-20-2005 03:22 PM

Alright I have decided I am going to start posting here as well maybe it will keep me motivated doing my treadmill or the dust collector as i tend to call it :dizzy: I have 20 minutes planned. Beth i think i will use your method of 5 min warm up and then incline every 2 min. What speed do you normally use? I was doing a 5 min warm up and then increasing the speed every few minutes instead of the incline think i will mix it up a bit. Im also starting my Situps/crunches tonight. Wish me luck......

Britt

WAgal 06-20-2005 03:35 PM

Hi Britt,

I just got on my treadmill, for the first time in a long time, today. I went 3 miles in an hour, no incline. It was all could do to get it done being flat!!! I have short legs and a short stride and to go much faster I am practically jogging. I would like to start jogging but will have to get some weight off first or I will blow a knee!! I also bought a Bowflex after Christmas and need to start getting back to that everyday. I'm just proud of myself for doing the hour on the treadmill!! I weigh in this afternoon as its day #2 for TO. Anxious to see how I've done. Sounds like people go back on TO periodically?

I do wish you luch with the crunches!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

rubyshoes 06-20-2005 04:09 PM

As promised, I started exercising this morning. First of all, I still have to give props to Star for waking up in the AM like she does. Man I hate waking up....LOL. But I got up at 6:30 this morning, a verified miracle for moi, pulled my hair back, tossed on sweats and went in the kitch and started my coffee....how is that for exercise.....

;)

Then went into the living room, pulled out my Tony Horton Power 90 tapes, blew the thick coating of dust on the cardio box, and grudgingly jammed it into the VCR. I kept up with most of the 30 minute torture test, and truly waited for the endorphin rush, that never showed up. But alas, I can admit that I felt good for the accomplishment, if not from the actually exersion.

Tomorrow...circuit.....hope like **** I can pull it off :p

~ruby

buttonsinabox 06-20-2005 04:44 PM

Britt I started at 3.0-3.5 do whatever you can.. I was told to do it at a speed that I can talk without being out of breath... or gasping as she said.. then after the first 5 sart doing the 2 min incline adjustments.... when I get to about a 5.5 incline I have to lower the speedto about 2.7 then at about 10 im down to about 2.5.. but thats ok it will get better i figure.... Ive only been walking on the beast for about a week so If I can do it so can you!

WAgal, Britt and Ruby....woohoo good for you guys Im proud of you!

brittyboo07 06-20-2005 05:12 PM

UGH its gonna be hard to exercise when i get home I have been yawning for the last 30 min or so. For some reason i have gotten so sleepy. Anyone have a pillow lol.

Britt

brittyboo07 06-20-2005 08:20 PM

Ok I am reporting in.......I did it!!!!!!!!!! I did 20 min on the treadmill (5 min was using incline the other was increasing speed) Then I did 100 crunches!!!! Now im going to take a shower and fix dinner. Talk to everyone tomorrow!!!!!!!!! ohhhhhh Rusty did you get your 15 minutes in today????????????
Britt

solocat 06-20-2005 09:17 PM

Okay...I rolled out of bed this morning and climbed on my treadmill too before work. Managed to get 20 min in, varying inclines and ~ 3.7 mph. Felt good!
WAGal...you'll love your BowFlex! I used to use mine faithfully...guess it is time to dust it off too hmm?
