I wouldn't say I love it, but it is necessary. Cooking is definately necessary on LAWL.....

Star 08-02-2005 11:19 AM

Well, I cook sometimes and DH cooks alot....he does cook for me on LAWL.....which is great!

MetalChic 08-02-2005 11:22 AM

Must be nice to have DH cook for you :p I have to have a :tantrum: just to get help.....

Star 08-02-2005 11:24 AM

my DH was single for afew years before we got married and took care of himself. Actually he likes to cook and he loves to eat.....he could stand to lose about 40 pounds himself.....he is threatening to exercise again.......hope he does start and we can walk or ride out bikes at night.

 You are too funny  Yes, I haven't done very good with the exercise either and I have all kinds of excuses that I won't even waste your time on. So, I hear this dieting thing is 80% eating and 20% exercise - something like that. I'm going to focus on getting the eating thing undercontrol and then add back in the exercise. But, I'll post when I start. Actually, I did get a ton of house cleaning done on Saturday and my body still aches here and there ;)

Star 08-02-2005 02:17 PM

debi - my trainer told me diet was 90%, exercise 10% - But who knows......as long as we do both we'll look and feel much better......

Star 08-03-2005 09:19 AM

Wed - Hump Day........Exercising to avoid the hump onthe back...lol
Ciruit Train - 45 minutes
Inner/Outer Thigh machine

MetalChic 08-03-2005 10:55 AM

Monday my daughter spent the night with a friend, so when I got off work yesterday I had to pick her up. When I picked her up, she had this pedometer on her hip. I asked her where she got that, and she told me that when her friends mother picked her up on Monday she went by the YMCA and they are giving them away as part of a "Walk across the county" promotion. If you walk 46 miles in 43 days, you can enter for prizes. It supposed to be this big event. So I went by the YMCA on the way home and picked one up for me.

Maybe this will get me started. Since it only takes 21 days to form a habit, this could possibly be what I need to get started......

Wish me luck...

What exercise videos do you suggest?

What kind of treadmill?

I gotta get some ideas here to form a goal.....

Thanks!

Star 08-03-2005 11:06 AM

karen - I detect a sense of interest on your part......I'm so happy for you!
I use Beach Body Tapes - there are many different ones. As for the treadmill, my son gave me mine as a mothers day gift years ago and it's a good one. they come in all sizes, shapes and prices - you just have to go and look - or maybe try e-bay.....
you could also get the "Walk Away the Pounds" by Leslie Samsone (or something like that?).....
Sorry my info isn't better, but I want to help you, I'm a gym goer - that's the easy way for me right now.

buttonsinabox 08-03-2005 11:57 AM

Karen, I just joined blockbuster online.. they have a huge selection of workout tapes.. if I work it out right I can get a workout video every few days or so.. I just did 2 1/2 miles of the Leslie Samsone 4 mile super challenge.. It felt great I so needed that... I have better sex through yoga 1 on the way.. lol by doing it this way I figure I can keep changing it to keep me motivated and I don't have to do it so long that I get bored with it... Oh and the walk tapes you don't need very much room at all to be able to do...

21/2 miles walking tape.. 30 mins

nursegal81 08-03-2005 05:40 PM

Star- do you like your Beach Body tapes?

auditgirl 08-04-2005 07:31 AM

Last night I did 30 minutes and elliptical and then 3 mile walk with DH through the neighborhood. Tonight I'm planning to either swim for 30 minutes and maybe make it back to the gym for some strength training (i haven't been since last Thursday).

Star 08-04-2005 08:47 AM

nursegal - Yes, I have the whole Beach Body series, but do the Abs everyday. I like them all. Also have the bun and Thigh Roller and do that daily, then go to the gym.
Today:
Cardio - 45 minutes.....
Revisited my Michael Thruman info and realized I was working too hard - had to slowdown to stay in correct stored body fat burn zone........whatever......(sigh)

MetalChic 08-04-2005 08:50 AM

Star, I can't compete with auditgirl; but I did walk a mile and a half in the neighborhood after I got home from work. I put my chili together for dinner and took a walk while it was cooking. Otherwise, I would have either been standing there watching it or sitting on my butt watching TV..... ;)

Are you proud of me? ;)

auditgirl 08-04-2005 09:08 AM

Very proud of you!!!!! Keep up the great work ;-)

Star 08-04-2005 09:13 AM

Wow

Karen - :cheer: :cp: I'm really proud of you - and if I know you once you get started there will be no slowing you down...WTG!

MetalChic 08-04-2005 09:49 AM

Thanks Ladies :o

I am trying the 21-day habit trick. Hopefully, it will work. :crossed:

Star 08-04-2005 09:55 AM

My money is on you Karen!

Star 08-05-2005 09:37 AM

TGIF! Gym today. Did not do Ab and Bun tapes at home becuz last night I went for a colonic an didn't want to put too much pressure on my stomach area today.
Gym - weight train, inner/out thighs........finished early and went out for breakfast (how cool is that? lol)
Off for the weekend......

Star 08-05-2005 10:30 AM

Info on water consumption and time of work outs...

Here is a thought...

I have been reading a book on toning...actually it is a pretty popular seller right now, the title is, The Body Sculpting Bible for Women by James Villepique and Hugo Rivera.

During the nutrition phase of the book, the authors talk about water and how critical it is. Also they talk about exercise in the AM. I would like to share what I learned...and what I plan to practice. I will keep you in the loop to let you know how it works out.

1st point that impressed me:
Likely all of us know this...but water acts as a lubricant for all bodily functions. Specifically, the one I am most interested in right now (don't laugh) is fat burning. In order to make this process as efficient as possible, you have to drink water prior to working out and DURING the work out. They specifically recommend 16 oz before your work out and 32 oz to 60 oz DURING your workout.

Second point that blew my mind (and in combination with the first I have a new game plan):
If you work out in the AM and don't eat prior to working out, you are going to burn about 300% more fat in that work out than you would otherwise. Reason being, the glycogen in your body should have been used up the previous night...so there is minimal, if any, amount of sugar to burn in your body when you first wake up. That will send you straight into fat burning mode (no need for that pesky 20 minute wait before the body burns through your stored sugar in the muscles--you already did it when you were sleeping). They said that you should eat a serving of fruit after you work out, though to restore your sugar levels in your muscles for the remaining part of the day. They also recommended a starch in mid morning, to keep you going--keep feeding the engine your body will become.

So...my NEW game plan, starting on Monday:
Wake up--Drink a pint of water
Dress and go to the gym and jump on the treadmill/weight train (and keep heart rate at a fat burning level)
Drink a Liter of water WHILE working out
Come back to the house, have an apple or a fruit serving to get the glycogen backup...

Repeat on Tues, Thurs and Fri...

I will let you know how it works out...but it totally makes SENSE....

Mary - I don't know how you do it, but you have the strangest stuff happen to you....lol I guess I'm just downright boring...
Today - Gym - circuits, abs and bun and thigh roller.......

Star 08-08-2005 11:42 AM

mary - Don't ever go away when you reach goal - I couldn't get use to the board (bored) without you now
How did you keep a straight face when he told you he ate it :?: :o YUCK

Star 08-15-2005 02:34 PM

Mary - Hi - you are doing great....remember wegiht loss goes by 90% of what you eat, exercise is about 10%......but together they are awesome and 100%.....

Today for me - Gym - circuit train, abs, thighs and buns.......do the M-W-F Cardio on T&T...will altrnate weekly starting next week.......

Star 08-15-2005 03:11 PM

Mary - Sorry I don't have the stats to back up that statement only that my trainer (two trainers) told me that. Your DH is wrong - people can lose weight without exercise at all, but someone that weighs 220 can not exercise their way to thin. Once you are overweight the best combo (and this is just MY opinion) to get in shape is reduced calories and cardio with LIGHT weights.
I do believe if you are in your 20's and not overweight, that is when you have an active life style and you can eat whatever you want, with exercise at that point you probably wouldn't gain weight (that is my personal exprience).
My DH is about the same size as yours, he loves to give me diet and exercise advice, even though he hasn't done either in 20 years...lol

Star 08-15-2005 04:10 PM

Isn't he tall too? I know he is overweight. Are you sure he and my DH aren't related? The binges on the chips and bad stuff sounds like my guy 100%. Only he never had a weight problem until he was in his late 30's and even now it all goes to his (pot) belly.
As you know, you can't eat that junk, plus regular meals and expect to exercise it away. Maybe if he went in for a check up the doctor could scare him into rethinking his diet? I'm gonna pm you about something else.

Star 08-15-2005 04:38 PM

Looking forward to tomorrow at the gym....it's cardio day....oh rah!
Get on that treadmill and daydream, huff and puff and blow those calories away.....

Star 08-16-2005 08:59 AM

Gym - cardio, abs and bun roller.......

The gym down the street from my current gym closed down this week and so we have new members. Which means I have to get there extra early now to secure my handy treadmill. We have 4 new ones and 4 old ones. I ofcourse like the new ones, as does everyone else.... From what I could see today there were only 3 new people there at 6, so maybe not much will change for us early regulars....(cross my fingers)

auditgirl 08-16-2005 01:58 PM

Hey chicks....exercise going well...not so well OP though...I just feel hungry most of the time and just kind of negative. I'm so tired of doing this and with about 8lbs to goal, I just want to be done, but I've been battling these last 8lbs for a month now. I just kind of feel like I'm avoiding/dreading social events because of the food. i have completely altered the way I eat and believe it really is a life long change, but hate the feeling that I can't have a handful of chips with salsa because the sodium is going to cause me to be up at the next WI. I'm just so ready for maintenance, but can't seem to get there.

So frustrating, but i'm not going to give up.

Sorry I haven't been around much, but just don't really have anything very positive to add to the discussion. I think I'll get out the Thin for Life book and see if I can't find some inspiration.

Take care,
Jen

Star 08-16-2005 02:23 PM

Hi Jen - Was wondering when you would pop back in.......missed ya.
I can sure relate to where you are and 'ditto' to everything you have just said.
If you find the last boost of motivation, please share with me and I'll do the same....
Hugs....
