I am looking to start c25k...tomorrow, I think. I just spend about 60 minutes on my eliptical so I am not sure my energy will be high enough. Glad to see so many do it too. I tried before and got a cause of sciatica. My town has a lot of 5ks and I'd love to be able to run in one so I don't keep feeling like life is passing me by. no pun intended - really.

Hi All! I officially started C25K Yesterday! I thought it was going to be a piece of cake (yeah right) and about the third 60 sec run I was about ready to die. LOL. Definitely going to be a trial, but looking forward to the results! I have never been able to really run any sort of distance in my life, even when I was in decent shape. But my goal is to run a 5K with my 65 year old aunt who runs marathons next spring. Here's to giving it my all!!!

Hi all! I was planning on starting C25K sometime after September 7th, when my oldest son starts pre-school. I was walking in my kitchen tonight (have to do something since kids were asleep and husband was at work) and just decided to start today. I made it through week 1 day 1 with no problems (I go slow, you can only go so fast in a kitchen!) but I feel so happy. I will probably start from scratch when he starts school and actually run outside. I find its a lot different to run outside than inside, and I had a really hard time transitioning last time I did C25K. I'm really excited because running makes me feel awesome, gives me great results, helps to curb my eating...not to mention the fact that I would love to say "Yeah, I can run 3 miles." Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of this group!

Hi everyone.

I stop by every so often to be encouraging, and I was very rudely reminded of something today that I thought I would share.

I have been running for years, on short runs I try to consistently run a 8 to 9 minute mile. I have been working for months to increase my speed for short races. But I want to remind you guys especially if you are just starting out, somedays your run is going to be bad, actually it can really suck. You can't have a really good running day everytime you go out. It doesn't mean you can't do it. You can, just a different day. My plan for today was to run 5 miles. No biggie, do it quite often. About the 2nd mile the run started going bad. So I decided to just run 5K and make the best of it. I hate to even admit this but I did run the 5k, it was not pretty, it was not pleasant and I averaged 18 minutes and 15 seconds per mile. I haven't done that bad since I was recovering from having a broken ankle (left) & a broken foot (right) at the same time. The 4 weeks after I had both of the casts removed I averaged that kind of time per mile.

You know that when you do that badly, for whatever reason (still don't know what happened this morning) you tend to want to give up, be depressed about it or mad at yourself. If you have a day that bad, think of it as a practice run so that your next one can be better & don't give up.

Any speed you run or walk/run is great, I know people run slower & faster than I do, so the speed doesn't really matter so much. My point is that some days you can't do your personal best, you might not even come close, but a bad day running or walking & running is still better than doing nothing.

Hope everyone has a good day. Everyone is doing great.

Thanks for that, I'm on a Boat. I finished w6d2 today and did not want to do it, at all. But I avoided yesterday, so I forced myself to get it done today. I wasn't glad to do it, and I felt blech when I was done. I'm glad it's over, but now I'm trying to find the motivation to continue since all the intervals are now done.

This would definitely qualify as "not a good day" but I'm confident I will muster the motivation to continue on Thursday.

Hi all. I've been absent due to work starting (I'm a teacher) and me TOTALLY going off my diet and exercise plan last week. My weight spiked up and I was too tired to exercise.

Anyway.... now I'm back running C25k and I completed my 4th (?) day of W5D1. Since I took about a week off I didn't want to push it. I'll probably due one more day of Day 1 before going on to Day 2 of week 5. Wow that sounded complicated.

Also, I'm going to sign up for a 5k on Thanksgiving (Turkey Trot!) to keep me motivated to keep losing and running.

Keep up the good work everybody!

I did w1d2 today, but doubled the amount of intervals. I feel fine, I don't feel like it was too hard, but I wonder if this is a bad idea? I know someone earlier in the thread said that they had done more than just one set of intervals at a time. I also just did w1d1 yesterday. I started c25k before and did it this way, but didn't finish because I got pregnant. Any thoughts on doing more than one set of the intervals at a time and more than 3 days per week?

Just finish week 1 day 1.
Ive never been a runner before - always walking and jogging for me.
Now I actually want to try running.
W1D1 was quite easy for me. I didn't sweat too much but again I run at home so the space is quite limited and that might limit my speed as well. Anyways, See you guys the day tomorrow

Welcome to all of the new C25Kers!
Welcome back LauraLoooo
I'm on a Boat - Thank you for your post. You are right, we should not let one (or even 2 or 3) bad days discourage us. The last few times I have gone out I have not had it quite together, silly stuff like bored with my music, trying out a track that was not in great condition, hills that were tough, trying to run on a treadmill (which was just strange to me) and I could not get it together. I needed this post, it has motivated me to get up and go again this am.

dudesmom - I do not do extra intraverals, but I often do more than 3 a week. I sometimes wonder if my lack of speed is because I did not give my body enough rest time? I am enjoying it (for the most part) and I am going for longer and longer distances though.

W6D3 DONE!

I did W1D1 last night. :-) My back has been bothering me because of walking a lot in super-high wedge sandals this weekend and it's sore today but didn't affect my run. Woo Hoo!!!

I actually woke up early yesterday AM to get my run in before work and it was still dark!?!? Going to try to start my run at 6:30 AM tomorrow and see if it leaves me enough time to run, get a shower, get ready and get to work by 8 AM. I'll be cutting it close, I'm sure!

OK I did it. W1D2. Slightly easier than D1 but still gasping for air at the end of my 60 second intervals, so I envy those of you that are not! Guess I am just THAT out of shape. Course, "wind" has always been an issue for me, even when I was in great shape. Not happy that the numbers on the scale jumped two lbs since yesterday morning :-( but hopefully that will come off soon. Not sure how that happened. Looking forward to W1D3 on Friday!

PS. I need some good running shoes. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello everybody, glad to see many of you are sticking to the program. Welcome to all the new members of the post!!
I've bee experiencing some problems with my health, specifically, I recently discovered that I am going through Perimenopause. In general, I've been able to manage the symptoms (lack of energy, hot flashes, headaches, etc), but the last couple of weeks have been very difficult, feeling extremely tired and even a little depress. This situation has slow down my progress on the C25K program.
So just wanted to let you know that I haven't been able to run these last few days but I am planning on going back at it as soon as possible.
Thx as usual for your support. I look forward to following you progress!!
