Hi Everybody,
Well I feel better today. I have been throwing up off and on for about a month. There seemed to be no reason for it. Dr. could find nothing wrong??? I was able to put two and two together and decided it was the meds I was taking for high blood pressure. It turns out I was right and so Dr. switched my meds and all is well. Geee all of those tests for nothing. But I am glad it was a simple fix.
Wow -- I take a leave from the computer for a few days and so much to catch up on!!! I am back at work right now and will sit down (hopefully) at lunch and digest all the GOLDEN GIRL stuff (less calories!!!).
Had the most wonderful week off. We really didn't do much -- and it was really really nice. I was able to keep to my program (sort of) but fell down with exercise. I have to say I sat down last night and watched Fat March -- I have never been a fan of the Biggest Loser so I thought this would be much the same. Its not going to be easy for these folks but I love the message the trainers give them. Just keep moving -- eat right and even if the scale doesn't move much - they cheered as loud for a 4 pound loss as they did for a 16 pound loss -- just keep on track. I would dearly love for these people to succeed.
Big welcome to all the new people -- and there is always room for more here. Huge hello to all my GOLDEN GIRLS and I promise to check in either later today or tomorrow.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I made a post in the introduction area. I am finally getting a chance to read and write something. It has been crazy here the last few weeks. My husband has been back in NC packing the rest of our belongings and getting our house ready to sell. It sold and we closed on it last week. He made the trip down with the final U-haul load of our stuff. We spent last week unloading the truck and moving furniture and boxes around. He has gone back to NC now ~ he will stay until December to finish his job, then will reitre and move down here to live in December.
I have been coming to 3FC for quite a while now, but just recently found the 50+ area. I was excited to find such an active group, and have enjoyed reading your posts. It was helpful to read your posts ~ you all have shared things similar to some of the things I am experiencing at this stage of life.
3FC has been a wonderful place. When I first started coming here, I had just moved to NC. I missed my kids and little grandson so much. I am kind of a shy person, so meeting people and making friends doesn't come easily to me. I was so lonely ~ 3FC kind of filled a void for me ~ being able to communicate with others. I have met a couple people from here in person. That was fun.
I wanted to catch up on the posts. Wow, there's a lot of action here. You miss a day and it's not so bad but miss two and it takes a while to catch up. Attached is an interesting article.
Peg and Deb:
Do you want us to call you by your real names? If so, would you please add your name to your signature line so I'll remember.
Hi Gary: Glad you're back. You're certainly missed when you don't post. As you say, you 'shake it up' at bit. When I go to Balboa Island I cross the bridge and keep going straight until I come to the ocean. There's a fire station there and I park in that neighborhood. I can always find parking unless there's a special event going on and then I have to drive up and down the streets until I find a parking spot. Also, it's near the ferry so you can cross over to the ferris wheel and shops. I'm going to have to check out the 'menopause' site and read your posts.
Hi MaryLynn and Gayle: Glad to meet you. I know you will love it here. We are all a friendly bunch and very helpful with weight loss tips and life issues.
Zoe: Glad you had a good time on your trip.
Lynn: I hate having a colonoscopy!!! I had one last year and one this year. Yuk! The awful part for me is having to drink the liquid. I just could not keep it down. I'm very sensitive to taste and I thought putting the cherry flavor in the 1/2 gallon mixture would help. Boy, was I wrong. It was really bad. I thought I was going to die. I ended up taking shots of the liquid. I would put a small juice glass about 1/2 full in the freezer and get it icy cold. I drank it with a straw and washed it down with orange juice. It was better than drinking it just cold. My doctor told me to try it that way and it helped some. What a fiasco! The surgery part was a breeze though. Glad yours came back okay and so glad you're having them regularly.
I have to say I sat down last night and watched Fat March -- I have never been a fan of the Biggest Loser so I thought this would be much the same. Its not going to be easy for these folks but I love the message the trainers give them.
I looked on the ABC site and they have the first episode online. I love biggest loser and this looks like it will be very interesting and inspiring to watch! Thanks for telling us about it...I hadn't seen any ads for it.
Cat: I agree about the new show. I caught the second half and really felt for the guy with the sores on his feet. I think it's a lot to ask some of these realy really heavy folks to walk as far as they do in the first 2 weeks. It does make me want to get up and walk myself, however.
LindaD - I did the flavorless phospho soda in gingerale and it wasn't all that bad. I had to mix 1 T. in 8 oz of gingerale three times in the evening and three times in the am. When I did the procedure 3 years ago I had to drink about 64 oz. of a horrible lemon flavored stuff ("Go Lightlly?) and just could not get it down at all. I would recommend the method I did this time. it seems each Dr. has his/her own favorite prep method.
Hi to all the Golden Girls & Gary!!!! Welcome to all the new members. I agree with Linda if you miss a couple days here you are really behind.
We have been very busy trying to arrange buying a condo in Ohio but that seems to NOT be happening at this time. Guess it wasn't meant to be. It is for the best as I really don't want to move until next spring.
Karen, I hope the loan goes thru for your buyer.....sending good vibes your way.
Gayle, I realize it takes time to meet people when you move to a new state, glad you found 3fc. When we make our move we have children and grandchildren nearby and one couple that are good friends so that will help. I live in south Florida and all 7 of our grandchildren live up north....a 2 day drive, we really miss seeing them....they are all under the age of 7 and we have 4 two yr. olds.
Welcome back Joanne, missed your posts and glad you had a good time on your vacation.
Lyn, you will have a great time at your time share. We are using a week of ours in Oct. for Disneyworld for a family reunion. You can do all your walking on that beach.
Boy am I ever late getting on the computer today -- don't really know what happened -- but I've been super busy for some reason. The weather is definitely cooler around here although it is very humid. It rained quite heavily overnight and it has been threatening on and off all day today, too. However even with the high humidity, the net effect is definitely more comfortable.
Theresa . . . . . . Hope the computer probs are fixed soon.
Lyn . . . . . . Since I'm originally from Ontario, I know the Georgian Bay area . . . whereabouts are you going. I'm most familar with the Wasaga Beach area and have a lot of relatives in Barrie which is not far away although it is on Lake Simcoe not GB. A lot of people go to the Grand Bend area but I was only ever there once as a child. Wherever you are headed, hope it's fun.
Margaret . . . . . . My hair does the complete opposite . . . totally limp and flat in the humidity. Maybe we should somehow stick our heads together.
Peg . . . . . . so glad to hear the meds are sorted out. That was a long time to feel so sick.
Joanne . . . . . . glad you had a great vacation. Welcome back.
Gayle . . . . . . moving is so stressful. Hope everything settles down for you really quickly.
Linda . . . . . . great article; thanks for sharing; almost makes me wish I liked honey -- cinnamon I love, and it's also very good for diabetics.
Phyllis . . . . . . I only wish my grandchildren were that close. I only have three. One is in Ontario and the other two are in Alberta (about 2000 miles away).
Don't send out the search party on me. I'm still here. I haven't read the boards for at least 2 days so I'm sure I have a lot to catch up on. I will read later I promise. Right now I'm going to get ready for a Red Hat dinner. We are going to Ruby Tuesday's.
Oh yeah, they called from the home my dad's in and said they want to do a cookie swallow test on him. Say a little prayer that he passes. That would be the best!!!
I hope this finds everyone in good spirits. I took a long week-end to do some work around the house, mostly finishing up our shuffleboard court. I have been getting a lot of miles in on my new treadmill. This morning I took MY GOLDEN GIRLS on their 3 1/2 mile walk, Angie usually does but she has teacher conferences this week in San Diego, so is leaving too early for their walk.
My son and daughter in law had to fly over to Florida...my daughter in law's father is in a coma, probably diabetic, from what my son knew when he called. I guess her dad was moving on Sunday and passed out, maybe dehydrated...they aren't sure. I guess he didn't know he was diabetic (?) Details are sketchy right now. Anyway I guess they are flying back home Friday, they were supposed to start school (without kids) on Thursday. Monday is the first day of the year with students, they really want to be there for that.
My daughter is still in Michigan with my son in law , they must be having a good time she hasn't called me DANG roaming charges
Knucklehead nephew has been hanging around the house today, just flat buggin....er...helping me with the shuffleboard. Just kidding he's a lot of fun, but I sure don't mind telling him sure when he says "Uncle Gary can I go skateeboarding?" ...sure Ron. He'll me home in a few minutes so I can take him, and a couple of buddies, to the high school for tennis and football practices.
PAULA ~ I love Ruby Tuesdays! Prayers for your dad!
LINDA MEOWEE ~ Glad your weather is cooler for you...now let's work on that humidity!
PHYLLIS ~ Sorry the "dream" condo may not be happening. I am sure things will work out at just the right time.
LYN ~ Glad your test went "smooth" Enjoy that vacation in Canada.
LINDA D ~ Sounds like you know your way around the Island, I trust you had a good time. As far as my menopause thread goes...it was really rolling along, then it just kinda dried up but it is still on page 2 of General Chatter until someone bumps it up.
GAYLE ~
KAREN ~ I have my fingers crossed that the loan goes through for the potential buyer. So much stress! As far as that personal ad goes ~ I think I dated that girl Your dogs sound like mine ~ Reba wants constant attention..but runs when anything new shows up like a scary "box" Rylee would try to get in the box.
ZOE ~ So we have a radio star in our thread do we Glad your week-end was fun.
LYNN ~ I hope your MD trip is going great. The bike ride sounds like fun
MARGARET ~ At least you are losing some calories with all those trips at night from the tea Have a great time at your reunion.
Hello GG's,
I thought that I would come in and post these pictures real quick in between the storms!! I really would like to send the rain to who ever needs it right now 'cause we sure don't need anymore for awhile!!
The pictures are of my grandson and granddaughter when they went to the Bass Pro Shop in Denver last Friday. I don't think TJ is afraid of anything but Jade is a little leary of standing to close to that bear!!!
Peg, Glad that you are feeling better.
Well, it looks like I really am going to have to cut this short--- too much lightening!! Still haven't heard anymore on the house. Maybe no news is good news...
Greetings All.
I can’t help but wonder, EZ, if calling your dogs by our name isn’t just the teeniest, tiniest....I mean, just maybe a tad bit...perhaps without realizing it (perhaps)...just a LITTLE sardonic? Nothing more, certainly, than a passing thought on my part, but one that persists, and in the interests of straightforwardness amongst us it’s better for me to say it than it would be to repress my annoyance and end up with an ulcer or something, surely? Could be that nobody else minds a bit, but being the equivalent of a golden retriever isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I voted on our being called “the golden girls”. One woman’s opinion is all it is. Doesn’t even really require any response or anything. Just wanted my cards face up on the table, so to speak. Comes from being one of those brittle feminists, no doubt, and having read too many books by Marilyn French in my impressionable youth. Theresa, I’m hoping your computer problems get solved soon. We miss you so much! I DO hope you’re feeling better? Please check in when you can!
Welcome to you, Gayle. I think you’ll enjoy us Golden Girls, and I look forward to getting to know you!
Hmmmm, Moxie. Horseback riding DOES use SOME muscles in your arms, legs, back, etc. Unfortunately the horse is doing most of the heavy work, methinks. Now if you were to carry it...... ???? Meowee-Linda, that “lil binge” of mine probably wiped out whatever progress I’ve made in the past two week’s time! All FOUR ounces!!!!! I swear, if I’d only realized what I was doing to myself when I was eating all that pure KRAP a year or so ago, I might’ve put the brakes on a little sooner. Especially now that it’s so ridiculously difficult to correct the damage. At this rate, I should hit goal by the time I’m 87. Slow & steady may win the race, but I’d like to see some results in THIS century! Give those cutie pie kittens an extra little hug for me. Oh, I wish we could get some more furbabies! Karen, I’m dying looking at your little furkid on the trampoline! I mean, how precious is THAT? Lyn, DH can wear a mask and it’ll be fine with me. Knowing him, he’ll paint a wolf face on it or something. He painted this really horrible painting of the Minotaur....just awful....I hated it....and one morning he hung it up over my bathroom mirror before I got up. I rolled out of bed, shuffled into the bathroom half asleep (I’m no good at ALL until I have my first cup of coffee), and grabbed my toothbrush and started brushing and THEN happened to glance up into the mirror and saw that awful minotaur staring back at me. I shrieked so loud I think our next door neighbors were afraid we had a domestic violence thing going on over here or something. Jeeze. Nothing could be that bad! I think I could handle the mask!
Good sleuthing, Peg...sometimes you just have to tell the doctor what’s wrong with you, you know? I figured out that I have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome (like Carpal, but different fingers are affected) and now I get all kinds of fancy padding, wrist-thingies, and even a new ergonomically correct chair at work. Way to go, eh? Of course I would’ve preferred an extended vacay, but those are the breaks. We’re in the middle of a big project, and it would be highly “unprofessional” of me to skip out before it gets finished.
Get BACK here, Jo-annie! Inquiring minds need more details than you provided, girl! C’mon back and talk to me! LindaD, that was a very interesting link about honey & it’s uses. My eldest daughter, who was in training for the Boston Marathon last year - she’s always been very slim & athletic - when she started having numbness in her hands and feet, and shooting pains. Then she had blurred vision - couldn’t see to read or drive. She was ultimately diagnosed with MS, which seems to create havoc with the immune system. She’s susceptible to every bug out there, and it‘s tough because she‘s a family therapist for the local school department, and comes into contact with all kinds of people. So, it was REALLY interesting to read that honey & cinnamon could improve your body’s immune system. Anything is worth a try. So, I was awfully glad to get that link. Thank you, LindaD.
Hey Trish! Good to see you back! Don’t be a stranger, now!
Okay, I know I’ve missed a lot of my Golden Girlies, but my old eyelids are drooping and I’ve got to crash. Hugs to you all, and keep on keeping on, you know?
Greetings All.
