How to Encourage Your Children to Attend Weight Loss Summer Camps

Attending weight loss summer camps can be a huge intimidation for kids of any age. Not only will they be visiting a place on their own where they don’t know anyone, but they’ll be spending a lot of time away from their family. Having to spend time at a summer camp in hopes of losing weight isn’t always an easy thing to have to admit to or think about either. In fact, the whole idea could scare a child so badly that they resign or even become angry at the prospect. However, there are multiple ways you can go about encouraging your children to attend weight loss summer camps with a smile on their face.
Shower them With Compliments
You children love hearing all the things you feel are great about them. It makes them feel better about themselves and creates a willingness and motivation to become a healthier person. Don’t concentrate on the physical aspects of your child, but instead let them know when they’ve done a good job at their chores. And make sure to point out how well of a reader they are becoming or how proud you are that they clean their room without you having to tell them.
Stay Active with Them
Get out there and run with a kite in the park, or consider playing a little softball with the family while you are there for a barbeque. Getting active with your children is a great way to get them ready for weight loss summer camps. It gets them used to getting up and staying active instead of sitting in front of the television or computer, and it keeps them interested in exercise if you are participating as well.
Teach them Healthy Eating Habits
If you make sure the foods you create at home are healthy and tasty, it will get your child thinking more about their health. This is especially true if you get them involved in the process and you educate them on the importance of eating a healthful diet. In fact if you are consistent with this, chances are your child will start leading the way when it comes to contributing to meal planning.
Let them Learn about the Weight Loss Summer Camps
Order brochures and look up the summer camps you are considering sending your child to and share the information with them. This will give them an opportunity to see all the fun and exciting things there are to look forward to at camp like meeting new friends, exploring new activities and eating new foods.
Reassure them Before they Go
Make sure you children understand that you will be thinking of them the entire time and they can always call you whenever they want to. This will help them to feel secure in the fact that you are there to help if need be. You can even send off a post card before they leave for the summer camp so they will receive it when they get there.
