Now I will try to not be the little raincloud here. OH, yes I will....I freakin' did something to lateral side of my knee during an overhead squat on Friday. Classic knee brusitis right now. RATS.

Friday night I could not sit in Thunderbolt pose comfortably. In fact, left side was impossible.

Did elliptical on it on Saturday like a fool and now I have limited range of motion. Icing it, taking NSAIDS, resting it Sunday and today, and have it wrapped. Cripes. I look like a mummy taped up from the foot to the knee. I think it happened because of the PF in the same foot. I did the squat barefoot and probably didn't have the "roots" needed to pull it off. Let that be a lesson to the rest of us.

Last night I had a bit of an epiphany. I think that's what it might be. I'm lying in bed with a swollen knee about 4:00am and in pain. I've already googled how to treat this thing after self diagnosing it and then it occurred to me: most of the population would be calling their primary care doc to have it assessed. Me, really never considered it. I've become way to comfortable with weathering injuries. Wow. Not a good thing. Not condoning it or suggesting it any way. Just an observation and one that perhaps I should work on changing.

Oh well, my weight is on the lower end of my acceptable range so I'm good with taking a forced rest this week. Really. I am.

How was Doughnutville? Probably even hotter and muggier than here. (A friend came over to help me with the garden but we had to wait till the evening because it would have been suicide to dig in that heat. Of course, about 5 minutes after we got to the garden it started to rain and we knew it would not last. We tried to wait it out but it just rained long enough to get us both soaked and return indoors, and to make the dirt muddy, and then it promptly stopped).
You were right to call St. Catharines Doughnutville - did you know that St. Catharines officially has the biggest number of doughnut shops per capita?

HAPPY SOLSTICE ALL! weather here after 5 days of clouds/rain. I need to step away from the computer and go enjoy it! Lots of errands to do, ending at the gym where I get to do the last round (for awhile) the cursed WBWO with 3 - count them 3! - exercises with the barbell in the corner. Soooo tired of those, even if they are effective.

Lydia - the one thing that I learned from a couple of bouts with PF is never, ever, ever, go barefoot - or wear zero-support shoes (i.e. flipflops and their cousins) further than from the bed to the bathroom! Truly, that more anthing has saved me I'm sure. Hope your knee-itis is feeling better.

Gotta run - DH is without his PC and wants mine for some of his stuff. Grrr, hope it's not too long.

What you said, Rabbit! This whole year seems to be flying by me.

Deadlifts today, going for a 1RM PR. My old one was 225 from December, today got 235. At this rate, it will only take me 4 more years to reach my 300 lb deadlift goal.

Off to work, now. Still cold today. Hoping summer arrives soon and sticks around for a while!

Wow, must have missed a whole page of posts. Yeah, I'm that observant. to all, since I have to get out the door!

Cheryl- fantastic on the stone lift! I like the class format, too, although when I joined, I initially thought that I'd hate it.

Nelie _ Your first week sounds like a success. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

Lydia- Ouch. You and I are the most injury prone people I know. Hope it heals quickly for you.

Rabbit- belated congrats on graduation!

Tiki- Hope the dental dope has worn off and you are back in good shape. Whatcha shopping for? Something fun?

We made it back from Doughnutville in one piece, although we did have a minor accident on the way to Toronto. I, of course, was driving. There is construction everywhere, and the car in from of me hit what I call a "hit me not", which I've been told is a completely made up word. So a big traffic barrel which was forcing everyone into the right land. He made it through with probably just a big rubber scrape down the side of his monster SUV, but it was almost in the middle of the lane and I caught it with the edge of my side mirror. Which detached from my poor cursed little Civic, and whapped into the driver side window, which shattered all over me and the inside of the car. Thank heavens for tempered glass! I had a few pin pricks, but nothing worse. We spent two hours finding a car wash with a powerful enough vaccuum to clean out the car and then a hardware store for clear plastic and duct tape. Lovely. It's amazing how often you want to look in a mirror that isn't there. Dh didn't talk to me for about 8 hours- I can't figure out how this was possibly my fault He FINALLY said that he was pretty impressed that I hadn't completely lost control of the car. Anyway, we managed to get everything fixed in Toronto before we left so the drive back was not horrendous, but it sure added to the cost of the trip. Monster SUV driver just kept going

I went to Xfit when we got home this afternoon and realized how badly my knee hurts from walking 50 miles in Toronto, then dancing for 6 hours the nuxt evening in spikey heels.

Headed to bed and back to the daily routine,

Start of week 2 with CF

The head trainer wasn't there so he had given the secondary trainer what items we were supposed to work on and then left the workout up to the secondary trainer.

We learned sumo deadlift high pull and push jerk. I was kind of surprised by the high pull part of the sumo deadlift, I thought that movement was bad for your shoulders? Anyway the original workout was:

10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1
sumo deadlift high pull
push jerk
150m run

I took one look at the 10x150m run and I said "umm... what?" hah so he changed it so it was a 200m run at the beginning and 200m run at the end. I told him 50m would've worked but 150m would've killed us.

Anyway I did the workout with an unloaded 33lb bar and my time was 17:40. I also learned I may have to not tell my husband want I do in CF. When I told him the workout we did and the weight I used, he thought it was a bit excessive. He worries a lot.

Also, I'm excited, I decided to buy some rings. I really like the rings and they are so portable.

Mel, so sorry about your accident. A big middle finger to the SUV driver and an even bigger HIGH FIVE to you for keeping control of the car and your temper. And as a fellow spiky heel lover, I am IMPRESSED with you - dancing 6 hours in spikes!!?!?!?! Work it!!!!

Nelie, so glad you are loving the CF. Isn't it great to be doing something you love?

Jam - 4 years?!?! However, with the way time seems to be flying by, 4 years will be gone in no time and you'll be slinging 300+ like it's a 5 lb pink dumb bell.

Lydia, sorry about the injuries. I hope that the week off will be totally sufficient to get you back in fighting form.

Hugs back to everyone else.

My workouts have been spotty spotty spotty. Haven't lifted since last Wednesday and got in cardio only on Saturday and yesterday. I got to sleep around 330 this AM so the 6AM workout just didn't happen. Will hit the gym tonight with The Boy and have a long firm talk with myself about making myself and my SLEEP a bigger priority.

Wow, Nelie, good job on the wod. SDLHP is not actually an upper body row or "pull". The bar is propelled upward by the violent opening of the hip, just like a kettlebell swing...the arms are just there to keep the bar from flying up and breaking your teeth , so they guide it underneath the chin and are the brakes. If your arms/shoulders/traps get fatigued, then you are pulling, not using hip drive (or not using enough), so you are doing an upright row, not a sumo deadlift high pull. The name is confusing/wrong, which doesn't help!

Mel, sorry to hear about the fiasco with the barrel. Glad you got it fixed, though and nobody got hurt.

Lydia, yeesh! You're worse than I am, lol! I tweaked something in my pec when we were doing rings last time....last rep of the last set, of course! Hoping a few days rest from anything that pisses it off will be all the cure it needs.

Okay, have to hop in the shower.

Good morning all... Rough weekend here for me, too. Lots of driving, lots of bad food, no decent exercise, then stayed home sick from work yesterday and slept all day. Found out last night that my parent's dog died - 17 year old mini dachshund that they got the year before I got out of college. It is like losing a sister. She used to sleep in the bed with me when I visited. Second dog they've lost this year - lost their Rottweiller to cancer in February, they had adopted her back in 2000. I'm pretty sad today.


Tiki - You sound like you have had the same workout week I had... I totally need to get myself back a priority, too. We can do it.

Lydia - sorry about the knee - rest and take care of it.

Mel - great holding position in the accident, it could have been so much worse.

Nelie - I'm so glad you enjoy the Crossfit! I've questioned the sumo high pull as well, DePalma told me that because you are using your legs to propel the bar up more than your shoulders that it isn't the same as the pull motion by itself. At least I think I explained that right.

Cheryl - on the 235! I bet it won't take you four years to get to your goal.

Pat - I know one of the corner barbell exercises? What are the other two? Oh wait, I think I know I just can't remember the names. yeah, those are icky all in one workout.

Oh Shannon, I'm sorry to hear about the doxie. We got one when i was 11 years old and he slept in my bed for many years and was my baby boy. He died when I was 30 (yeah that is right, he lived to be 19). I cried my head off and still sometimes I cry when I think of him. He was such a special part of my life for so many years.

Cheryl/Shannon - that is kind of what I figured in that the 'high pull' motion was bad for your shoulders if you are using your shoulder muscles but the propelling motion causes you to not use your shoulder muscles.

My shoulders didn't get fatigued from the SDHP but they did from the push jerk although I think part of that is because my inflexibility caused me to use more of my arm muscles than I should've. I definitely need to practice the push jerk.
