  • Hi all. Yesterday I spent the day gardening on a farm that provides training for our local schools. By the end of the day I understood why Cain killed Abel. If I could have found the jawbone of an a** I would have killed a couple lazy co-workers. LOL!! They were leaning on their shoves / rakes yakking all friggin day! Because I'd done chest/shoulder/tris the day before mine were on FIRE from moving all that dirt around. I skipped my AM leg workout but must have done a kabillion squats putting all those plants into the holes by boss dug.

So basically my unplanned off day became a STRAIGHT UP 5 hours workout. On the plus side though, my legs got a nice tan are getting closer and closer to the same color as my arms. At this rate, I'll be even in no time.

BTW I also kept the food CLEAN. When they brought out the big salad and hoagies, I whipped out my pack of tuna and was good to go.

WaterRat, I like the roadtrip idea too. Something about driving through that part of the nation with all that blue sky stretched out before you just fascinates me to no end.

    Have a successful weekend all.

    Tiki!
  • Tiki you crack me up! Love it. Hope you are recovering from your five hour functional workout.

My workout was a quick 30 minute race on the elliptical before the boys, my own, came looking for me. I made it, but barely. I need to give them some projects to work on while I'm working out.

Sorry for the fly by here. Still crazy busy but I'm trying to prevent myself from falling into lurker mode.
  • Nelie, good luck with your class, Monday. So excited for you! Great job on that workout. I saw the rx'd version on the mainsite..

Had my 12K this morning. Unofficial time 1:25:25..not sure if that's the chip time or just the clock time, so might be that, or might be about 10 mins less. Either way, I'm happy with it. My goal was to run the whole thing, no walking, and I did that.

Left right after the run to drive up and watch my trainer, Kurtis, compete in a strongman contest. His weight class was huge, 16 guys, and tough competition. He put in a great performance and got 4th place in his class. We all went after to eat at Red Robin. Had a whole burger and ate most of the fries, too. I'll have a headache to show for it tomorrow, but it was a planned cheat meal, rest of the day I kept it spot on. To sleep now, then gobs of chores and housework on the list for tomorrow. We finally got some sun today, hit about 80F, I think, and supposed to be nice all this coming week. Our new class format starts Monday at the gym, but Kurtis says I can still do my strength/strongman focus training in my warm-up.
  • Hi all,

Cheryl - awesome that you finished your 12k
Nelie - the cf wo sounded incredible
Mel - have fun in toronto!
    Tiki, Lydia, Pat- hi!

Another day of straight gardening & housework under my belt and going on the next one today. Weather is supposed to be nice & sunny but not to hot. Apart from a pet crises (guineapig of dd) it is a quiet weekend, and no time for official workouts.

a totally unrelated trivia: The lab where I work had an open afternoon on friday, where the guys can shhow their families where they work & what they do. I had the demo "get your infrared picture taken". The IR picture shows temperature. And I literally SAW middle aged moms in a family picture with their teenage children being cooler. They radiate visibly less heat. Sort of an eye opener for me.

OK, of to get out of bed & start on my chores for today.
    have a great day all,
    Rabbit
  • Rabbit, did you get your IR pic taken too? If so, post it! We want to see how much internal temperature you have!

Since the weather is dingy (as my BF would say) - I absolutely love it - and it rained a bit yesterday, not much but enough to make gardening put on ice (more rain forecast for the afternoon -yay!!) - I decided to work on the bathroom a bit before I run to my yoga class.

Here is the pic that shows the "progress" - Mel, feel free to show it to your DH as a proof that there a lot more hopeless DIY's around.
The gray and the blue wall are the before, the slate looking floor and the nondescript beigy (in reality not so nondescript) paint behind the WC are the after.

    Alena

  • Alena: I really like what you are putting down. No worries, it'll get done.
Rabbit: So now I have my IR picture to worry about too. Oh, this aging thing, will it ever stop...don't answer that.
Cheryl: on your 12K. How awful were the hills? I really admire that you could run this and continue to work toward strength goals.

Like everyone else I have catch up work to do around the house. Cooking, cleaning, yard work is done. Keeping that lawn mowed is a workout all it's own.

No offers on the house yet. I will just reframe my summer and consider the possibility that I may be here another school year with the boys. Its not perfect but it's okay. I'm surrounded by supportive friends and family and can look forward to the freedom of better workouts this fall. :
  • Lydia

to all. There are some impressive things being reported in this thread. I've upped my weights and am feeling it. Some functional fitness moving stuff to the tip ... I mean recycling centre, of course. And stiffness in my L hip.

    Age? Unlikely!

ETA that the DB's class of 9 & 10 yo is doing a history project about Life after the 1940s. I'm thinking of putting forward my year of birth (1955) to go on their timeline. To show them that it's possible to be alive & kicking at This Great Age. They know me quite well & I think it would shock them!!
  • Silver, I've got 10 years on you, and am still going strong - if more stiffly!
  • Pat - re stiffness. Could it be all in the mind?? So, you know, mind over matter, and we'd be fine?

There's a flaw in the logic there but it really has been one of those days and I'm heading for an early bedtime.

Btw, my friend at the gymn has got a year or so on you, Pat, and she is *bendy*!

I think the children would be surprised that people they know also lived in 'history'. You probably remember before the Beatles!
  • Birch, it is worse than that...the kids know the beatles.
But remembering before PCs, mobile phones & black and white TVs! Actually took cards with holes to the mainframe computer in university, back when programming meant you had to punch those holes in yourself with a separate machine and come back later that week to see if it had ran at all.
And I am stiff and creaking at my joints at a not so springy 51.

BTW I second that hug for Lydia...

    Rabbit
  • Ah yes! Punch cards on the mainframe! Those were the days! I used one as a bookmark until quite recently.
  • Ah Punch cards....my mother used to bring those home from work. We used them in my six grade science class to make flash cards for our vocabulary words.

Thanks for the hugs ladies. I'm good though. Just busy.

And heaven help you if you dropped them all!

Lydia Even tho you are good

Rabbit- That's fascinating about the IR! Of course, most of us know it intuitively- whose feet are cold a night but to see it proven is really interesting.

Alena- That looks like the tile I used for my laundry room. We finally painted the woodwork in the renovated master bath today. Yipee! Only the doors still to do.

I'm stiff and creaky too. I did no workout what-so-ever yesterday, and woke up with my butt really hurting. I also sat on a hard chair at my step-sister's for about 5 hours last night and I'm sure that aggravated it. This morning XFit WOD looked like a recovery WOD, and I didn't need to recover, so I did elliptical HIIT at home, then my own WOD, then my rehab exercises.

I'm so sad when Sunday night rolls around. I never finish my to do list, and I really just want a month off! Is that too much to ask? Really? But this will only be a 3 day workweek for me, then off to TO

In fact I remember when I first heard them on the radio. Driving back to university after Christmas break my sophomore year! "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to be exact. My stepdad was not impressed.

All of these things! I was an adult before most people had color TVs (we didn't have a B&W until I was 7 or 8). I worked in offices way before there were PCs, and I used punch cards and all their resulting problems in graduate school in 1973/74. We had one gal in our class who worked in data entry, and a number of us would pay her to punch our programs.

I also remember when McDonald's opened and you could get burgers for $.15. Of course they were small and had no "extras."

Okay, I'm feeling really old now. Silver, I'm working on getting to yoga on a more regular basis so that I too can be more "bendy." My problem area is my hip flexors (leaving aside my knees which have been awful for years). Trying to bend my hips and knees to tie shoes is huge problem for me. Grrrr. (I can do it fine sitting down, but when you're out and about that's not always possible)
  • I'm WAY too young to remember punch cards (or at least way too smart to ADMIT it )

    Tiki!
