  • Morning, ladies!

Lydia, the hills were not as steep as I had anticipated, but the final climb to the finish was about a mile and a half of up, turn a corner, another rise, come over the rise, see another one, etc, so it was sufficiently soul-crushing to put the whole "no walking" goal to the test, for sure. It was a good workout!

I'm with you ladies on both the flexibility issues (hips and shoulders for me), and the never-ending yardwork (and household projects and cleaning..sheesh!). Never enough time. I spent the day yesterday, got the riding mower up and running with a new battery and battery cable ends, and got the ridiculous grass in the front yard mowed down. It was so thick and wet it wouldn't bag, so I had to rake most of it up. Hoping to get some more mowing in either today or Weds, since it just looks like a bad haircut right now.

First day of "classes" at my CF gym. Supposed to be like the on-ramp, with warm-up, skills focus, then the wod, maybe stretching after, about 45 mins or so for each class, starting on the hour. Means I have to adjust when I arrive a bit, if I want to get in some strongman/strength work first, and to make sure I'm bendy enough to do the assigned warm-up in the class. Getting old ain't for sissies!
  • I've seen punch cards but never used them

Yesterday was "Ikea day" and I'm thinking we'll have another Ikea day soonish. You know how you go to Ikea, buy a few things, put them all together and then tell yourself you are never going to do that again? And then you forget a couple years later and you head back to Ikea? That was us.

We bought a nice big storage table for the kitchen which I'm dreading putting together but last night we put a storage unit and a bookcase together. We have another storage unit to put together and then the table. I really like the storage units we bought and I decided I want another and get rid of a bookcase we have.

Anyway, between walking around Ikea (nearly twice), pushing heavy carts, loading our car, unloading the car and putting things together, I didn't have any time yesterday so no official workout.
  • Nelie; is there a training manual for the Ikea workout good luck putting it all together.

Jam: Love that line, Gettin old ain't for sissies. might have to add it to my signature!

Mel; it's Monday! Shake off the Sunday night blues (I have 'em too). and carry a seat cushion the next time you visit the stepsister. nothing worse than an achy arse.

Hi Lydia, Water, Silver, Rabbit & Tomato! Happy Monday to us all!!!

This AM I got in such an awesome chest/tri/shoulder workout I had to kiss my guns, then do a couple poses. My workout partner saw me so we had an impromptu "pose off" in the middle of the gym (she did upper body today too). The guys in the gym just laughed at us. It's so great having a gym buddy even though we are firmly divided on our weight lifting beliefs. She's firmly entrenched in machine/low weight area and I live in the free weight / high weight area.

  • Tiki, that's hilarious! Show us your guns!
  • Hey all!!

I had my first official CF class. We worked on squats, pushups and ring rows (as an alternative to pullups). Then we had a WOD that was 200m run, 15, 12, 9 of squats, ring rows and pushups and then a 200m run. My time was 11:30.
  • TIKI...I saw your name pop up here on the community page...

I was ready to send my condolences to your family as I thought you were dead.....

I really expected to hear from you recently...

    What about you ask....

    Read between the lines.....

  • EZ, I was trying to be nice......but....welll........I posted a true VOL response in Gen Chatter/Games/College Football.

NELIE!! Congrats!! You are OFFICIALLY on your way!

Hi Chicas!!! Cardio only day but my gym buddy INSISTED that I do some ab work. I personally think that if I'm walking upright, that should be considered ab work but she disagrees :-(

I'm debating on having tomorrow as a rest day or starting the cycle back over, then resting on Friday. Decisions, decisions.....

    Tiki!
  • Tiki, what she said, show us your guns! Strong work in the gym!

First day of classes was fun, but I have to make sure I get there early enough to do some warm-up on my own before the class begins. We did overhead squats in the wod, but it wasn't part of the warm-up, so I hit my too-tight shoulders on the first round...could not get the bar locked in overhead, plus my wrists were still tight and killing me. Had to stop during the workout to retape the wrists, then just keep working the lockout until my shoulders said "uncle". Did add 8 lbs to my hi-rep weight for OH squats yesterday...knew it needed to go up, but that 8 lbs felt like 800 on my wrists, lol. Still, did the sets unbroken, because it hurts most when I first get it overhead and before I get the shoulders locked in, so I just grit my teeth and try to NEVER set the bar down, because I don't want to have to pick it up any more than necessary. Obviously, if my wrists would just man up, I could do the rx'd weight for overhead squats, but I'll just keep pecking at it, adding 5 lbs or so when it feels like the wrists can handle it.

Sorry, got to run...not trying to be "all about me", just didn't get up early enough this morning, and with the new class times starting on the hour, I have to get out the door earlier than normal. A full work schedule and errands today, but hoping for a little time at home tomorrow, so maybe I can check in and do replies then!
  • Good morning. No decent workouts here in the last week, but I did buy a couple of cars.

Getting back to normal today, getting back into workouts and better eating.

I've been reading the thread and have been greatly entertained, sorry I haven't posted! I'll get back in this week.
  • A COUPLE of CARS! Fun. That could be a diversion from workouts for a few days.
  • Yeah a couple of cars? wow...

We are actually throwing around the idea of replacing one of our cars but we can probably get a few more years out of it. We are actually going on a road trip next month and renting a car instead of taking the one we are thinking of replacing (small suv). My car is smallish so can't really accommodate us although maybe if I got a roof rack it would I actually would love to really get rid of my car but it makes no sense financially so we'll keep it until it dies.
  • I'm headed to Toronto tonight- about 12 hours ahead of the previous schedule. SNAFUs all around!

Woke up at 4:30 am with a leg cramp from too many box jumps yesterday. I sure hope I'm awake to drive or dh is really wide awake!

    A couple of cars???? ouch.

I'll probably have very spotty computer access, so have a great time, all!
  • Have a great time Mel! Hope it's a nice drive! Sounds like you earned a rest day.

Rest day for me today. My dad is in town for a visit. Nice break in the middle of the week. Have a great day everyone!
  • Hi Ladies!!!

Mel, good luck and safe travels!!

Shannon, welcome back to normal, whatever normal is

    Lydia enjoy your dad!!

Nelie, I'm doing the same as you - renting a car for a trip. I've been semi-shopping, but haven't made a decision yet. I'll get there eventually.

Skipped the gym this AM and went for an early AM walk past a nature preserve near my house. While walking, I ran into Mr. Raccoon. He was not happy with me walking so close to his house while singing Billy Idol's Dancing with Myself. We had a brief stare down. I calmly told him to go back inside. He hesitated a bit more, then shuffled his tail back into his bushes and I went on my merry way.

Have a MOST EXCELLENT WEDNESDAY ALL!!!!!
  • Morning, ladies.

    Mel, have a good trip!

Lydia, enjoy the rest day visit with your dad!

Shannon, a couple of cars? We'll need more details than that! I'd love to get a little commuter car for just going to the gym and such. I still have to keep a big vehicle for work and for hauling dogs around.

We've had 2 days of structured classes at my gym. The instruction is excellent, of course, but so far I haven't been able to get there early enough to get in any skill work or strongman practice. Tried lifting stones Monday after class, but was too wiped physically to do much, so I have to do it beforehand. So, the classes are good in a way, but eat up an hour of gym time...anyway, we have to do this for 2 weeks and see what the feedback is, then the owners will decide whether to continue or to go back to the open gym style. I liked the old way better, but I'll go no matter what, so we'll see what happens. Going to leave early this morning to try and get some stone lifting and a nice long warm-up in, as the class warm-up just isn't enough for my old, crabby joints.
