  • Happy Birthday, Shannon!
  • Quote: I also picked up Starting Strength from the library today. After skimming through the book and reading paragraphs randomly I've decided I really need to own this book. Too much good stuff in there for me not to have right on hand to refer to.
Yay It is an amazing book and you can also get a complimentary DVD from startingstrength.com that is absolutely worth it
  • Happy Birthday Shannon!
  • Sacha! baby update???

Hello My little man is still baking away, 2 weeks to go

I haven't been around as I stopped weight training at 35 weeks, I just walk the dog now I can't wait to get back into my workouts
  • I am now up to 160lbs Which is where I was when I began my weight loss journey 6 years ago. I'll be around here a lot after to get back down

  • WoW Sacha, nice pic!

    Rabbit
  • I was just wondering about Sacha this afternoon. Glad to hear everything is going well.

This cold has knocked me for a loop. I haven't had one for probably 3 years. I took a nap this afternoon and then had a short burst of energy which I used to cook some stuff for the rest of the week (and dinner!). Then spent the evening on the couch watching TV and knitting. Sigh. Hopefully I can get something resembling a workout tomorrow without feeling like I'm on my last legs. I feel like a wimp and yet the silliest things leave me very tired. Grrrr.

How did your DYI stuff go this weekend Rabbit? And a birthday report Shannon?
  • Pat,
welcome back. How was New England? Did you make it to Bonsai West?

Last week was hard, my lower back was really acting up and I did not exercise until yesterday, when I decided back or no back, I have to start moving. I got 40 minutes cardio down, and then still red beet faced and with my hair wet from the shower, I arrived to the yoga class just a minute before it started. I think the yoga helped as usual.
Starting this week, there is an additional yoga class (Thursday nights), at least for the summer. Brad (our yoga instructor) announced that he will focus on inversion and his plan is have us all standing on our heads by the end of summer. Good luck with that!

I was sore ALL OVER today and I could not believe it. I don't know if it was from the fact that did not do much during the week or from the yoga (there were some new poses, like downward dog on your elbows (i.e. the entire forearm on the floor) - it's a lot harder than the regular version - I think my BUTT hurts the most.

The sore butt also could be from a pretty fast walk for 3 days in the row through a conservation area - I got a new little pedometer thingy that tells me that route is 2 miles and I cover it in 34 minutes (with the dogs in tow).

There was a blurb about (well, stats mostly) in the last issue of Oxygen and I was surprised to find out that breast stroke burns 590 calories in an hour. Only butterfly burns more, and all other styles burn less. Also, it said that in a 25 m pool you need to swim 32 laps/64 lengths to cover 1 mile, so I decided to count it today. In my usual 35 minutes, I covered 58 lengths, so I was only 6 lengths/3 laps away from 1 mile (but I really can't stay any longer).
I don't know if it's good or bad (I consider myself a slow swimmer), I am sure I won't beat Dara Torres any time soon.
I have to admit though that counting the numbers pushed me to swim faster, also, I shared the lane with another lady who was quite fast (she was changing styles) so it was an additional motivator not to fall behind.
It was a great workout, even though it was only 35 minutes.

    Alena
  • Alena - New ENgland was lovely. I did not get to the bonsai place, but I told my friends about it. We did spend an afternoon at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens which are fantastic. We also spent a lovely weekend in Maine with my DH's brother and family, including a visit to a renovated alewives fish ladder.... I so enjoyed the spring flowers and blossoming trees everywhere. And also the lobster. After that I flew to Florida to see a friend and went to some tropical botanic gardens! Very different. ANd home to the beginnings of spring here.

I'm still down with this cold/sinus crud. Moved into my chest overnight, so most activity leaves me short of breath. Grrrr. I'm hoping to take my bike out for a leisurely spin this afternoon if it stays without wind. Need to start getting my butt in shape for longer rides.

    to everyone.
  • Hi!

Alena - that sounds like great workouts aal togerther. It is amazing how much you do in just 35 minutes!

Pat - sorry about the cold/crud. My DIY plans happened for 50% as I decided to go visit family on saturday & had a bad day on sunday. The crud laste through mmonday but turned monday evening, so I'm looking forward to the rest of the week. It is supposed to be great weather for the next 5 days, so I'll be biking to work, visiting Bruges on thursday, and work in my garden over the long weekend.
DS has his finaal exams these 2 weeks so we are all keeping our fingers crossed.

    have agreat day all,
    Rabbit

  • I've had a stomach bug for two days. Yuck. I have no time to be sick. Managed cardio this morning, but that's about it. Off to work, attempting to NOT get sick on the train!

    NICE belly, Sacha!

    Welcome back, Pat

    Hello to all- gotta run!

    mel
  • Good luck to Lil' Bunny Rabbit at the finals!

I did 15 minutes of cardio and then 30 minutes of abs (P90X Ab Ripper and Jackie Warner's Abs). I have to run back to the TV to watch The Biggest Loser.

    Alena
  • Wow I can't believe all the sickies here this week. Well, count me in for one too DS came home with a runny nose cold and two days later I'm dragging around with it. I always look so haggard when I'm sick. Blech.

On a good note, I forced myself to keep the appointment with the podiatrist. She's 45 minutes away and was running an hour behind. DSs in tow were not pleased. My foot is taped. I was given a script for an anti-inflammatory and a night splint. I go back in a week. There is a promise that if I'm good I MIGHT be able to run and (say it isn't so) JUMP in two weeks. We'll see. I'm just thrilled to finally have help with this. I'm a dork for waiting this out and trying to take care of it myself.

Sacha: YOU LOOK GREAT! And in TWO WEEKS you are going to be holding that new little babe if not close to it! That's something to get excited about. Best of luck during these last few days.

All right, feel better everyone. I'm going to bed. I was up all night last night after watching "Love Actually" as suggested a while ago by Alena. For some reason that movie disturbed me. It's probably just the cold playing with my head.

    Have a great evening everyone.
  • Crud, Bleh & TOM here also. It is like a global thing. hope everyone gets well soon,
    Rabbit
