I am either on week 3 or 5 of my new training with weights depending on how you look at it.
Week 1 was just figuring out what I could do.
Week 2 I only got 2 workouts because i pulled a hamstring and couldn't walk for several days.
Week 3 we amped it up.
My husband is "training" me. He is really fit. 6 pack abs and all....so it seemed like a good idea. Most of the time it works out well.
So our current workout is
60 sec jump rope warm up (2 sets of 30)
squats (mon & wed) or calf raises (fri) 1 set of 15
60 sec jump rope (2 sets of 30)
abs (bicycle, out and ups, captains chair or stability ball crunches ) 1 set of 15
60 sec jump rope (2 sets of 30)
chest press (mon & wed) or curls (fri) 1 set of 15
60 sec jump rope (2 sets of 30)
abs (1 set of 15)
60 sec jump rope (2 sets of 30)
And then we repeat that 2 more times. Takes about an hour.
On may 1st I was 149 (43 lbs of body fat)
On may 10th I was 151 (43 lbs of body fat)
So I have gained 2 lbs of muscle but I haven't lost any fat.
Lydia, I'll go looking for podcasts and if I find any I'll pass them on.
Candice--welcome. That looks like a good workout to me, but I'm a beginner at all of this.
I just finished Week 2, workout A of the New Rules Stage 1. (That's a mouthful right there!) I did up the weights, but I was really taxed at the end. I still can't type very well because of shaky hands. It feels good to workout so hard, but I think I might be getting a little sick and the workout made me feel really nauseous there for a while.
Now time to do some planting (container garden) and some cleaning. We've got family coming in tomorrow for Hubby's graduation.
By the way, you can call me Eumie or Kendra. You can guess which one's my real name.
Eumie/Kendra - I don't think I welcomed you either, I was on vacation when you started posting. I haven't used any podcasts other than yoga either. I do watch a lot of YouTube videos with demos of proper exercise form.
Lydia - I have gotten steered into healthy choices by people working at restaurants, too. Weird.
Alena - how goes it today?
I am stiff and sore today - I got back into my strength training on Monday with Day 1 of the 3 Day Intermediate FB routine from stumptuous, it was supposed to be 'light'. Before my week off I had moved my light/medium/heavy squat base up to 70/90/110. So, I jumped back in Monday with 70lbs for my light day and it still stings two days later. Run last night and yoga this morning has helped somewhat.
Oh No!!!!!! I totally forgot about this thread. Please don't take that as an insult. I have not been to many of my favorite websites much this week due to back pain. I FINALLY got up and did 30 minute Maura Barclay no-sweat yoga DVD and feel SOOOOO much better. I've missed so much in this thread! I'll go back and read this evening as my entertainment.
Thank you for the well wishes. We did end up going to the theater and I absolutely LOVED it! The better half loved it too and this will become a new hobby for us. Which means, eliminating two/three dine outs every few months to cover the cost of the tickets. Fine with me... I'm getting quite sick of chain restaurant food. We saw A Drowsy Chaperone at a very intimate theater, Marriott Lincolnshire... we also got to see how the better half lives. I say that, because part of the package that we won included a $45 pp brunch. Wow.
I hope all is well and I'll be back tonight to catch up on all of your lives! :O)
We're in for a long 4 day weekend overhere. I still have to finalise some work and I'm in half a mind to get it done & over with before I get going in the garden. Weather is still cold & rainy, but expected to be better next week.
Alena, Shannon - re the folic acid. There are different kinds of aenemia. I have a hereditary thing that causes malformed & small red bloodcorpusculi. Thus iron does not work for me (in fact too much iron can cause other problems) and folic acid may not work for you. But I'm very happy that after 20+ years of "untreatable, part of the condition, there is nothing we can do, you have to learn to live with it" I now have even a more convenient alternative to brewers yeast!.
I've just finished a fascinating book "the secret life of the grown up brain", about how the brains of middle agers (45 - 65) function better and different in many respects. Most interesting to me was that eating clean and excercise is also good for the brain. There was this fascinating study in mice indicating that they actually made new braincells as a consequence of exercise!
It's a new boost to get into the habit again. i ran yesterday, and I'll do it again today.Edited: I ran again, and I threw in some pushups, assisted pullups and downward dogs for good measure. Amazing that I do have retained some of the endurance & technique; I'm still in way better shape than I was 5 years ago!
YOU LOOK GREAT! Check out those legs! Thanks for sharing Mel! No wonder you are an addict. Your CrossFit facility looks beautiful! I'm very envious of the pullup bars...
Awesome Mel
The pullup bars scare the crap out of me
Nelie: The first time I pulled myself up there my first thought wasn't "Hey look at this I an do a pullup...it was Wow, the view is very different up here...cool. Might have something to do with the fact that I see the world from 5'3''. It was love at first lift. Seriously, after a few sets each week, it will be the favorite part of your workout. I hope anyway. Oh, and your place looks wonderful too. Rings! I SEE RINGS!
I really need to go check out the one that opened closer to me recently.
Overall decent workout for me too. I almost had to bail on my back squat though. Never ever had that happen before. Not quite sure what went wrong. I think maybe I had it a little low on my back...may have been the PF foot and I wasn't as stable as I thought. Saved it though which is more impressive in my opinion than the 135 ibs I was squatting.

Yup, they have rings! I'm excited about the prospect of rings. There are also climbing ropes and what not.
