  • Anyone see Strictly Come Dancing? Talking of heels - I couldn't believe the heels the women were dancing in... I couldn't even walk in them, let alone dance!
  • I can't remember the last time I wore REALLY high heels - certainly not while I've been married to the current Mr S.
  • I only saw it once but I remember the shoes. Surely those narrow straps must cut in to their feet? I'm amazed they've got such good balance on those heels.

I remember reading Graham Norton's autobiography when he was talking about meeting with Dolly Parton in 'Dollywood' - they were going to be filmed going down a white water ride while singing Islands in the Stream - and she took off her shoes to get in the boat thing and still walked on tippy toes. Graham Norton said he thought that she had spent such a lot of her life wearing such high heels that the tendons in the back of her legs had shortened and she physically COULDN'T put her feet flat on the floor anymore.

So maybe the opposite has happened to me....
  • I try to make sure I wear a mix of flats and heels, when I first did my ankle I found walking in heels (chunky ones though) was actually far easier than walking in flat shoes because my ankle as at a more comfortable angle, and I still sometimes prefer heels after a run because it doesn't stretch the backs of my legs as much. I've never really had a huge problem with heels, and I've got some really nice thin ones now my balance has improved and I don't fall off them as often.

I think I should be OK putting a new switch on. I just need to work out which wire is which, and I should be able to do it (after all, I managed to get the old one off). The only problem is that I won't be at home in daylight to do it for another 2 weeks...
  • I can never wear heels, my ankles are too small and weak - my left ankle has been broken 3 times and i also have a bit of cartilage missing from my knee. The shoes ive got for the wedding have got a bit of a heel, but its a chunky one and I have worn them once before (they are my 'something old')

I took my wedding dress to my friend to fix it the other day, and she's had this fantastic idea - rather than taking it out at the seams, she's going to replace the zip with a corset type lacing
  • Good morning Ladies, I had to leave abruptly earlier after posting as I took a glug of coffee, it went down the wrong tube and I spat it all over computer, keyboard, desk and myself...just as well I hadn't had my shower as then, after curves and walking Pen and Lew. We're all cleaned up now though

I'm about to go out on a job interview, I actually have no idea what it's for though, apart from it's in a school....when they called me to set it up, I asked, and she never answered me, so wish me luck for whatever I'm going for, I guess I'll find out when I get there

Lovely day here, a shower first thing, but the sun has come out and all the colours on the trees look fantastic...maybe I'll take the camera and take some pictures as I'm drivng along. Hopefully it works, I managed to splutter the coffee all over that as well.

Ok, have a good one girls...later.
  • Hello everyone

I love a heel always worn them as I am such a shorty just five feet tall. Although I do have a beautiful pair of beaded golden kitten heeled mules but I feel so short when I go out. Last time I wore them I was told I look like a little doll!!

As well as the heels on Strictly Come Dancing aren't the dresses gorgeous. Oh I just love a bit of sparkle.

Hope your ok after your coughing fit Brtinnj I've done that before.

The corset lacing on your dress Kalijack sounds fantastic very sexy. What a gorgeous bride you will be.

I was at the gym this evening starting my road to 9 stone!

    Take good care everyone

    Michele
  • I'm a heel girl too, like yourself Michele I'm only small at 5' 1" and really appreciate the extra height that I gain with those heels.

Chris I'm glad you're okay now, I hate it when that happens it's really scary!
  • Woo hoo, I had a really good run tonight - I even ran with the middle group rather than the slowest for most of the way. We did just over 10k with a couple of nasty hills thrown in, and I felt better than I've felt running for ages.

Which is a good job because Wednesday's run is a half marathon, after work on a weekday They're doing a couple of runs, the half for those who want to do it and a shorter one for those who don't. I think I'll do the half though, because I almost certainly won't get a long run at the weekend.

And I actually paid my money and signed up properly! I haven't got my vest yet though, I'll post a photo when I get it and I'm a proper signed up, club vest wearing running club member!
  • I'm ok after the coughing fit...it was the computer I was worried about more than anything, funny thing was, the two dogs didn't even blink an eye while I'm spluttering coffee everywhere...bless 'em. Thanks for the wishes though.

helen, Good Lord woman, you make me feel tired just reading your post, I reckon you'll be doing one of those tri? althalons before long...I'm glad you enjoy yourself though, it's so nice to hear about your runs. Can't wait to see you in your member vest luv...

Actually, we used to have a picture thread, from years ago, I wonder if we still have it, we used it so we could show ourselves and everyone knew what we looked like....mind you, the pics I posted back then, I was thinner than what I am now...ooooooooh, the shame
  • Been absent

Had a migraine on Friday so no work, therfore no internet. Out in bloomin Norwich yesterday, so no internet, and today it's SHOE CRISIS DAY!

My bridesmaid saw me in my frock and my shoes on Sunday and the lacey bits of dress keep catching on the sparkly bits of the shoes. AAAAAAAAAARGH! So she reckons I need NEW SHOES! But there's only two weeks to go and no free shopping time, so am ordering on the net. I've ordered 2 from office and 1 from faith and I'm looking in Schuh. If anyone's bored and h=fancies some shoe porn, then I am open to suggestions! They must not be pointy or have any stupid metal mounted diamentes! Apart from that then anything goes! I'm thinking ivory or silver - go shop for me ladies!

In other news - I have busted up the middle finger on my right hand well and good I first "sprained" it tying a sleeping mat onto the rucksack we took camping 5 weeks ago. It was still hurting and not particularly much better. THEN last night I was sparring with a big boy and we were just going gently and not doing any contact, but we hit each others' knuckles. Owwww! Now I can't bend my little finger and all of the silly tendons hurt right down to my wrist! So I decided to strap it up when I got to work this morning, since I need to be unstrapped for riding in my bike gloves. And of course I am hunting and pecking with my right typing hand. Not pleasant! And the position my hand's in hurts my forearm.

Anyway, off to the gym at lunch, I guess it'd better be cardio since I can't grip anything
  • Poor 2 frus! It is not cos you been showing your boss the finger then (LOL!).
We are grateful it hasn't stopped you popping in here. Migraines are no fun. I usd to get them at school but now I just get - well, hormonal 'heads'. ..just, well still annoying.
  • Shoe crisis day makes me want to go back to bed. I hate shopping! But good luck with the shoes.
  • 2frus - ouch that finger sounds painful Hope it stops hurting soon. The migraine sounds rotten too, you're not having a very good week so far - hopefully it's gonna start improving from now!

Re the shoes, I'll try and have a nosey round the net for you though it might not be today as it's my sisters birthday so I have to go do the visiting thing.
  • Frus - ouch - your poor finger. Good luck with the shoe hunting - what happened to all those pairs you bought earlier in the year???? (Or aren't ANY of them suitable?????)

I'm about to throw a complete tantrum! The people that have been around here a while will remember that George, the much bigger of my two labs, used to have a severe weight problem - he is a really tall boy but he was a HUGE amount overweight and used to waddle and wheeze everywhere. When we moved here we got a new Vet who gave me a real talking to and told me I was killing him with love - and he said G had to slim down to 43kg. That was a couple of years ago and ever since he's been attending doggie slimming classes once a month in the Vet's reception. It took him 18 months to get down to 43kg and we were about to celebrate when the Vets new partner said that according to the insurance charts a Lab ought to be 40kg max. Poor George. We have since really struggled to get that last 3kg off. Today we went for his annual medical and booster shot and popped him on the scales and he was a milli-gram under the 40kg. Yayyy! We were so chuffed.

Then we went in for his booster - it was the old Vet on today and I knew something was up when he stood back and looked at George from all angles, then he asked me what he weighs and what I'm feeding him - THEN he told me George looks a bit skinny! We explained about the other Vet, insurance tables, blah, blah, blah, and he said 'Oh you want to ignore the actuarial charts when it comes to a tall, big boned boy like this one, they're for normal size Labs like Fred.' Poor George.
