Awwwww........... Frus, your M&D look lovely.

Anyone else heard this news feature about there being a direct link between obesity in kids and lack of sleep? On one of the reports an 'expert' was commenting and made a throw away remark that the relationship between lack of sleep and obesity in ADULTS had been established years ago. Interesting. I'd not heard about this before. I do always eat more when I'm tired and I do always want to sleep more when I'm really cutting back on calories so maybe there's something in it.

Obviously I've got to get in some early nights - I wonder if 10 hours a night will be enough??????

I had heard the thing about lack of sleep and obesity before. It does make sense to me - if I'm too busy to get enough sleep I might also be too busy to fit in the exercise I planned or cook properly (if I'm working late on a deal or something over a prolonged period of time). If I'm getting enough sleep it's a sign that my life is relatively calm and under control, because I have time to get enough sleep. (Having said that, at the moment I tend to give exercise a higher priority than sleep - sad but true). Also if I'm tired I'm more likely to just grab something to satisfy a craving rather than toughing it out til I can get some proper food.

Frus, your Mum and Dad look super, I might agree on a tad longer top for your Mum, but only becasue of the lovely length of the skirt, but she looks very classy in both outfits. Your wedding is going to be a very classy beautiful affair.

Sleep = obesity? Hmmmm.... I was just pondering the question of sleep myself this morning and thought about starting a thread on it. I feel tired at the moment but I'm putting it down to boredom of staying at home. I go to bed most nights around elven and get up at six, do my bits and bobs, wake up, go to curves, walk with the dogs and titivate the house with whatever needs doing and then if I sit down, I want to go to sleep. Now I'm getting about six to seven hours per night, which is pretty good as I know people who thrive on less...

How much sleep do you lot get?

Have had a very good eating day thus far today, had brussel sprouts with a slice of low fat cheese for lunch so it'll be windy around here lately A good healthy meal planned for dinner, so I'm doing well this week.

Helen, have fun with the boss away, sounds like you should have her job anyway... you seem to do so much all the time.

Ok, have a good night all..

I definitely do not eat right when I'm tired. I get lazy about cooking or preparing food so I eat whatever I want.

If I'm upset I also get really lax with the diet. Yesterday I packed a really healthy lunch for school, but then a student got upset, long story short I ended up getting hit with something that he threw. I was not hurt at all I was just startled and a little freaked out. Well next period was lunch someone wanted to split fries...I happily obliged. I know if that hadn't happened I wouldn't have touched the fries....eating is weird isn't it? It's such a comfort. I tried to make up for the bad eating today and I did pretty well.....and nothing was thrown at me at school!!!!

oo the sleep thing.. Yup its true.. not just because you munch too much/ wrong things when tired etc.. its to do with certain hormones.... cant remember now which ones and why.. i think its because they are too low... and your metabolism gets all screwy... (will have to look it up) !

I'd be interested to know the relationship between stress and sleep and food because I know I don't sleep well when I'm stressed and stress always affects the way I eat one way or another. The last time I was in an actively gaining weight part of a yoyo cycle it was a very stressful time and I had very bad insomnia - probably getting 3 to 4 hours a sleep a night but no more than an hour at a time - and I was incredibly out of control with my eating. I always blamed the stress but maybe it was the insomnia that took away my self control. What was interesting was that I knew eating so much was wrong and wouldn't bring back my daughter but I DIDN'T CARE - I was tired, I was stressed and eating was a comfort and having a constantly full tummy seemed to help me cope. I've always thought its a bit like reverse annorexia.

I have also had a couple of times in my life when I have been so completely stressed out that I stopped eating (and sleeping) and ended up at the doctors weighing less than 9st, looking dreadful.

I think that maybe this sleep theory works for some people who are genetically pre-disposed to being overweight but not everyone. There are people (like my DH) who copes on less than 6 hours a night but still has to purposely eat more than he really wants in order to keep his weight up.

With all that has happend to you, Sarah Ann I am surprised you get any sleep!

Maybe we should send someone round to bless your house or something. I remember reading in a magazine about a floor cleaner that was called Doctor something (supposedly a haitian Witch Doctor, and not only did you get clean floors, but is kept away evil!!). Maybe you can pretend there is Witch Doctor magic in the box of 'Flash' or something!

Let's all send you some positive vibes. Your luck MUST change for the better, soon.

YPI - I don't mean to laugh but your mention of piles (obviously you were talking about piles of work but of course with my mind I was thinking of haemorrhoids (why?? Dunno!). NOt that I think you have them - you don't stand still for long enough!!

Furs' parents look v. glam even if Pa Frus looks rather serious. The men in my family do the opposite. It is hard to get a straight forward photo of any of them. My two brothers used to excel in 'male model' poses. Now don't get excited girls - I mean the old fashioned knitting pattern type - checking their watch, pointing to something, hailing a taxi etc. They did it to good effect at nan's funeral.......

First though to my fave veggie Indian restaurant. It is gorgeous! My tummy is not rumbling - it is screeching for food!! Down boy!

G'morning! 2lbs gone this week - nearly back to my pre-holiday weight.

Peacock - please do send someone round to get rid of this streak of bad luck. My life has always consisted of long stretches of boring normality followed by something absolutely awful happening which is the start of a long period of eventfulness (if there is such a word) and right now I've had enough of the eventfulness.

We went out for a drink with friends last night to a lovely pub which is quite busy but relaxing. During a general lull in conversation a girl buying a drink at the bar knocked her handbag off the bar and it kind of burst open when it hit the floor - the contents went everywhere. Poor girl, it was full of a tube of something and some VERY personal buzzy bits and pieces that she should really keep in her bed side table (if you know what I mean) - DH's comment was that she was obviously not planning on going home alone!

I am off out shopping for clothes for Chrimbo this afternoon. We've got a few invitations already - including DH's work's 'do' plus we're having our usual open house thing on Boxing Day. I've decided to go to Monsoon at the local designer outlet and see what evening type separates I can get on the cheap. I'm going to be daring and buy a dress size smaller than I am now - I'm hoping it'll give me incentive to really stick to plan. I'll probably regret it and end up selling them on eBay!
