  • Homersmummy you are doing great. Please don't compare yourself to other people. Remember that if you are losing weight slowly it will stay off. I used to feel uncomfortable in certain classes at the gym because I felt out of place, but someone said to me once, nobody is really watching anybody else and I find that to be true. Now I'm one of the "regular" people and I really pay no attention to who is around me (unless they need help or something).

Anyway I know its easier said than done not to be discouraged but you really are doing well, and if you continue at this pace think of where you will be a year from now.

It has taken me (I'm not exaggerating at all) 1.5 years to lose 30 lbs. My friend and I started trying to lose at the same point and she has lost 60. She however is doing it in a very unhealthy way that I won't get into here, but just remember you are doing this for you.

Sorry if that sounded preachy and for rambling
  • Homersmummy- that's a massive achievement and you should be really proud of yourself- that's 4 dress sizes down. I've lost 20lbs in a year and a bit so I'm in awe of you. You've got the commitment and willpower to change your lifestyle to lose this weight so if you carry on exactly as you are, in another 4 dress sizes you'll be in a 16/18.

There's a lot of ignorance in this world and the phone in seems to be just another example. I feel sorry for them to be that bitter about life.
  • BritinNJ : His already my hubby lol we've been married 4 years may 17th 07

    Teresa

OOPs... silly me, I'm getting confused with who's who and these upcoming weddings and such...nice to see you though Teresa

HM... same as the rest of these lovely people have said, ditto my woman, you're doing tremendously, be proud of who you are and what you've done for YOURSELF...ignorant people who make remarks like they did, are very unhappy people within themselves, therefore, try to make themselves feel better by being nasty to other's over different issues, keep going with all you're doing...you are wonderful and here's a

I was a piggy today, went out for breakfast with hubs and didn't eat healthily...back on track now though...it was a lovely meal though

How's our runners doing? Are they done or is it tomorrow?
  • HM - about long term weight loss - have you read Diet Girl's blog? Its completely inspirational. She's an Aussie living in Scotland and its taken her nearly six years to go from her start weight of 25st 1lb down to 12st 11lbs - and she hasn't finished yet! Take a look at her archives from when she was starting out - she describes very well the highs and lows of long term weight loss and all the struggles in between but in a way which is so funny and readable.

Yayyyy me - I've managed to stay within my 1500 low GI calories even though I'm back on the really long, flat walks - I managed just over 10 miles this morning. I got buzzed by some idiots on microlights who I suppose wanted to look at the Moor from above and chase the deer. I suppose they thought they were being funny but it scared the wits out of the dogs who ran straight in to a bog and I got filthy getting Fred out because he panicked! We often get microlights going over the Moor but they don't usually come down so low. Idiots!

I made some very yummy iced yoghurt stuff yesterday - just mashed bananas, L/F Greek yoghurt, a little honey and cinnamon whizzed up together and frozen. I thought it sounded a bit strange but I had loads of very ripe bananas to use up and banana fritters or banana bread is a bit out of the question at the moment so I found this recipe - and it turned out to be totally delicious.
  • Hope your feeling a little better today Hommersmummy. When we feel down about ourselves the whole world can look grey. You are doing fantastically well soon people will notice more and before you know it you will be in the next size down yet again. Go out and buy a lovely lipgloss to cheer yourself up I'd recommend a Lancome Juicy Tube works for me!!!

I am sending you a big hug for the lovely girl you are

    Michele
  • I have been lurking around reading your posts for a few weeks now, hope you don't mind if I join you (am english living in Belgium, missing the uk at the moment).
Felt compelled to post due to poor old HM's feelings- People have no idea what it is like to be Fat unless they have been there themselves. You have done absolutely brilliantly to lose 49 lbs. People who comment on the amount can't imagine how much dedication it takes to achieve a loss like that. You are awesome girl!

I love reading about your lives here, hopefully I will be able to post more freely ( limited time etc)
Congratulations everyone, remember evry pound lost is a pound closer to the new you!
    x
  • Sarah Ann your posts make me want to see pictures of the moor, it sounds beautiful.

It's getting to be too cold here in the morning, I have to go for a run but it's chilly out there.
  • Hi starbrite you're more than welcome.

Hope our Amsterdam runners are having fun.

I've just watched YP finishing the Berlin marathon from a clip linked on her training blog.
  • RedSoxGirl - sometimes its beautiful. I'll try and find a website with pictures.

Starbrite - thats EXACTLY why I suggested HM read Diet Girl's blog. DG has faced the same challenges as HM and has suffered similar depression when nobody noticed even after she'd lost a shed load of weight but still carried on. It really helps to read about peoples' experiences especially if, like most of us, it hasn't been easy.

Talking about easy weight loss - does anyone else get annoyed with these magazine articles about dieters' stories - about the way they always seem to imply that losing weight is such a simple thing to do. You know the kind of thing (they run to a set pattern) .... a woman (its invariably a woman) had a Horrific Personal Experience which made her realise she was ruining her life by being overweight - so she 'just' used this or that diet and 'just' did loads of exercise or even 'just' took this type of pill or 'just' had that kind of weight reduction surgery - and look at her now, size 10 without a problem in the world!

It feels like the articles are trivialising what really are incredible achievements. I wish that for once they'd get real and talk about all the blummin hassle that goes along with it and the fact that losing weight doesn't solve all life's problems (and can actually create quite a few of its own!) It would also be nice if they were to have a few more articles about larger women who are happy with their bodies / lives / careers - the only one I can think of is Fern Brittain!

Sorry to rant... just got annoyed at an article I just read!
  • Quote: HM - about long term weight loss - have you read Diet Girl's blog?
I hadn't no, but thank you for the link. She looks absolutely amazing! I am going right back to January 01 and I'll read her blog, thank you.

I've been slacking of late gym wise. I couldn't go for 3 weeks because of other commitments, but these past 2 weeks i've put it off. I can't afford it at the moment but I can't be bothered to go if i'm totally honest. I'm doing well eating wise but exercise wise... I'm sure i'll get back into it again soon though.
  • I'm back! Frus and Kylie are still in Amsterdam living it up and eating fondue, but I had to fly back tonight to go to work tomorrow

We both finished the run in one piece before the sweeper bus came to get us and have shiny medals with a nice orange ribbon. Frus said she ran all the way, so a big well done!

Homersmummy - you're doing really well so don't let comments like that or still feeling big put you off. If you stick at it you'll get there, don't worry.

Anyway, I need to sleep now, so I'll leave the proper Amsterdam update until tomorrow, but I thought I'd better update you!
  • Well done.
  • Wahoo YP, glad you're back safe and sound, we look forward to hearing from all runners, spectators and fondue-er's sometime soon

I've been shopping today, winter boot shopping, it's getting a bit nippy here now and Hannah needed some winter weather boots so I thought I'd buy myself some as well...got her a nice dressy pair for this kind of weather, flat scrunched up kind, she's got legs to kill for and they look lovely and she chose a great pair for snow and ice, all chunky and cool looking..I bought a nice pair of brown leather ankle boots, chunky heel...not too high and some new tennies for curves, loads of build up on the bottom as I'm having trouble with my heel...so we'll see how they work out tomorrow.

Eating has been good for me today, penance for breakfast yesterday....had a nice walk with hubs and dogs this morning although it was chilly, I think the warmer weather is all done here now.

Ok have a good week all, keep your chins up and smile at everyone.

Sarah, I agree with you on the magazine articles, no fat now thin woman ever says how they slipped, felt they weren't getting anywhere, or anything negative, makes me mad too, this isn't easy, we all slip, we all get disheartened and can be bl**dy hard at times. thanks goodness for places like this where you can get great support and a good moan session if need be Cheers UKFC x
  • I've created a monster. Not only did my mother spend the flight back from Amsterdam thinking of other places I could combine running and city breaks, she's just sent me this link.

    Only 67k, across mountains... http://www.transgrancanaria.net/

At least it finishes in the town where my parents live so I could be transported to a bed at the end!
  • Congrats to YP1, Frus and Kylie!

Sarah Ann - re the Amazing Diet articles - I also get mad at them. Plus also I think a lot of people lose the weight then put it on again because a lot of their problems are insude and they have to deal with that first.

I must admit years ago I went down to about 8 1/2 stone which should have been good for me at 5ft 4 ins. I did not feel any different and there was no red carpet treatment for me so I just thought "sod this" and carried on as before!!!

Homersmummy -You have done really well! If I lost 4 dress sizes I would be in absolute heaven!! It does not matter that you are the heaviest in the class - and do stay - even someone with a couple of stubborn pounds to lose would feel like poo - honestly! They are all there to lose weight.

I think when you go back to the gym you will feel better.
