Hi Chicks

How is everyone doing today? What a beautiful day! Last week we were in the 40's and this week the 70's and 80's. It sure is beautiful

Thin... I definately know about those bugs.....they seem to be everywhere. I think the weather is going to be back in the 50's this weekend, so maybe they will not like that as much.

Oneday...Dr Phil has been doing the WLC on Mondays, but that might change. You can check his website to see what will be on everyday of the next week.

Nita....I have been trying to follow the Dr Phil WLC also (when I remember to tape it). I can relate to many of the issues that they discuss. Have a wonderful trip!! How long will you be gone?
And for weighing in below your goal!!

Halgal.... for you also. Adkins sure does agree with you. And how is Rocky doing? Like 1day said, I'll bet he is getting big!

Michelle....Hope you had a great visit with your dad. for you and your family...

Well, gotta go. Mydaughter has a volleyball game, and of course homecoming is this weekend. So LOTS to do....hair, nails, dress,etc.....

Have a great OP evening

Hello Ladies,
We'll yesterday I went to our State Fair & considering all the food that is their I did pretty good. I had two corny dogs & just one ice cream bar. I started to get the greasy french fries, but decided I didn't need all that grease in my system. Walked around & saw lot of exhibits. I still have not started back at exercising though. I need to get back on track. It's so hard to get up in the morning & do those 5am walks. But I know once i get going I'll get use to it.

Chacha - Thanks for the info on Dr.Phil. I will have to check out the web site. Do you have the book? or are you just following the program on tv?

Thin, Mitchellez, Nita, Cat, Hal, Jodie, Mooz, - Hope you all are having a great OP day... Hope to hear from you all soon!

Default good evening

Sorry I haven't been on.

My DMiL had a heart attack. She called the ambulance, and they took her to our local hospital, and then life-flighted her to KC.

She seems to be resting comfortably, though terribly tired.

Anyway, our excitement for the day.

See you layta--

Hello chicks~~
Been away at the lake while the temps were so nice. Breaking records here. Was in the 70's for the last few days. Took some fantastic fall pictures from on the lake. Going to post one on here, hope it looks good once i've "shrunk" it for the size alloted. Now the pontoon is pulled in and being winterized. But we cruised the lake as much as we could in the last 2 days.

CHACHA~~do you have those asian lady beetles in the Milwaukee area too? They weren't too bad at our trailer on the lake, but i see here at home they are still about as bad as when we left. I am trying to squirt them w/dish soap and water mixture. Those caterpillars die from just something so simple,so i figure it's worth a try.

Hope the homecoming weekend is a grand affair! It's fun when they get so excited...very contagious. The hair and nails thing is a hoot also! Enjoy !!

~~~1DAY~~Sounds like you did a good job resisting all the fried foods at the fair. We have to eat but we don't have to 'pig out' anymore! right? YGG~~
~~CATLOVER~~ so sorry to hear about your DMIL sending 's to comfort you and your family. Hope she is a little better each day. I will keep her in my prayers.
To everyone else...hope you had a good Friday and will try to do better on posting.
Hello chickies I sorry I have not posted in awhile but I have been sick with this terrible sinus/sold thing that has been going around. And I have been busy trying to get my plans for the school year done. We had our first home and school meeting Thurs night. It has been a crazy week.
Everyone sounds well, and OP, wish I could say the same, not doing to badly but seem to be slipping in those pesky sugary treats every now and then. I have promised myself that I would dust off that treadmill over the week-end and get my @$$ back on it this week, hopefully if I can stop coughing long enough. Well I must go it is almost 7 am and I need to get in the shower before I go teach my dance class this morning. Have a great week-end all.
Lightbulb RE: Fall Break = Peace, tranquility and FUN...!!!
Happy Saturday everyone!!!
Gosh, it is SO beautiful outside these days. Central Kentucky is just beginning to enjoy the beautiful Fall colors. I am thinking of a short road trip this afternoon to Southern Indiana for a Celtic Festival and a free concert by Seven Nations. They have a website for anyone interested in really good Irish Rock tunes. I actually saw them at a club Tuesday evening in Lexington (had to take a personal day Wednesday as these concerts run waaaay past my bedtime). Anyway... as you guys know I love music, and these guys are very, very good. Check them out at their website
http://www.sevennations.com
Also, anyone on this thread lucky enough to get the cable channel GAC (Great American Country)????? Hal Ketchum will be on GAC this Wednesday, October 15th on Lorianne Crook's new cooking show called Celebrity Chef at 10A and 6P. I am going to begin hounding our local cable to pick this channel up. Hal will be making pancakes with his 2 year old daughter, Ruby Joy! I am not giving up on finding a way to view Hal. Here is a picture of Hal with Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase. I've met these guys when they did a book signing in Lexington years ago. They are really great people.
Adkins is really, as in really working for me. I am confident in a way I've not experienced in dieting ever. Do know, I could be a vegetarian if I had a choice, so it does involve work, and dedication. I found some new low carb products at the health food coop in Lexington. They gave me a list of 4 pages of low carb products they carry with the nutritional information on each. I tried some low carb mini hamburger buns called O' So Low. I'll post the website for you guys, as they carry lots of other products too. It was a sourdough hamburger bun, and very good. It only had 3 net carbs, pretty neat, huh? Also, I saw an ad in the paper with a restaurant advertising South Beach dinners. I am impressed... Altho, I know how to eat out and feel very comfortable ordering and asking for things to be left off, and substitutions to be added. Sometimes I am charged extra, sometimes I am not.
CatLover: How is your MIL doing? I am glad she did the right thing and made the telephone call. So many of us wait, wait, wait and ignore. How are you doing?
LittleChick: Welcome back. Sinus infections are a routine part of the teaching professon - so I empathize! Blocked ears, fever and no sense of taste are the worst part for me. You said you had your first school meeting Thursday. Do you teach?
Thin: Awesome picture! I envy your life, if you only knew. I have a red pepper sitting in my fresh veggie bowl. These things remind me of you, my good friend. I love to dice them and pop them into salads, and use as a dipping tool for dips as Adkins does not allow chips!
OneDay: Pray for me... if I end up at the Celtic Festival this afternoon. Just thinking about the food makes my mouth water. I wonder why, why, why I am so attached to food, and cannot simply use it as a tool to live healthy. Trying to focus... on the benefits of eating well, dreaming of fried fair food...
Mooz: Thanks for reminding us about the importance of exercise. Rocky has helped me some in this area, as I walk him each AM and PM. I live by some good sized hills, and this is a good thing. I keep reminding myself how important it is for both of us.
Nita: If you have not already left, have a great trip East. I use to live in Boston. I miss the food... suprise!
Well, time to run and begin my Saturday. Have a great weekend everyone!!!
Hi Chickies, hope everyone had a great week-end. I am still sick with this cold which has now moved into my chest and I have a terrible cough. Which is keeping me up at night, so I am not only feeling miserable from the cold but also lack of sleep. And to top it off started TOM today could it get any worse.
Hal- no I am not a teacher, but I am the prez of Home and School which is the same thing as your PTA. I love being involved in my dd school and helping make decisions in helping the school run better for the students. We also look after all the fundraising and then make the decision where that money goes. Last year we totally redid the library. This year our focus is on healthy eating and how to help the children and parents implement that into their daily lives. It is very interesting. Well I must go my cough medicine is starting to work and maybe I can catch a few zzzzzzzzz's. good night and sweet dreams.
Good Monday Mornin' chickies. I seem to have less and less time to get on the internet these days. This working larky is giving me very little free time. My 6 months will be up next month so maybe I will be unemployed again. Not sure which I would enjoy most ........ having more free time or having more money .......... I want both
I took my digital camera out with me while out walking and I have uoloaded the poictures to Webshots so now you will know what I see when I am out. If any of you are interested the addy is http://community.webshots.com/user/mooz49
Gotta go get ready for work ........................
Decide that you will
Though you're not yet sure exactly how you'll finish, go ahead and get started. Even the smallest amount of progress can motivate you to keep going. The big achievements begin with small achievements. And the small achievements come from making the initial effort.
No matter where you intend to go, there is always a first step to be taken. Take that first step now.
Nothing can equal the sense of accomplishment that comes from getting results. Though it's great to have faith that you can do it, it's even better when you know from your own experience.
Action is what will transform your faith, your hopes, your best intentions into real and undeniable results. And now is the time to act.
Take that first step, keep on going and don't look back. You can do it, when you decide that you will.
Post Mornin' Chicks~~~
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. Yesterday was mostly a lazy day, watching football(What the heck happened to the Packers??--i didn't see the O.T. part and they lost!) But i did do some cleaning --have to keep up w/the vacuuming when one has those asian lady beetles. They just plain stink! As i've mentioned before! The weather is changing back, so they probably won't be a problem except for the ones that already snuck into the house. More cleaning ahead!
~~MOOZ~~thanks for sharing your new photos on webshots. Did I ask this before...is there a charge to upload photos to webshots community? Very kool site. Loved the mare and her foal. Everything still looks so very green. Do you get the changing colors over there??
Yes, i don't see how i could go back to work as i can't keep up w/my chores now. They say that once you retire you cannot do in a day what you normally could get done. And i'm seeing that firsthand!
~~LITTLE CHICK~~Sending Get Well Wishes your way. sorry you are feeling so sick. Nasty when you get a cough and can't rest enough when you need to. Do take care~~
And then to top it off the start of TOM!! I just saw on the today show how doctors are now letting some women take 3 months consecutive of pills and then have their period. That would mean only 4 a year! I have to find out about this. There was a "new" one out w/the pack all set in 84 pills for a person, but it showed the exact one i take and said one could do the same with them. Just take them for 9 weeks and then stop for 1 week. I don't believe any of my doctors know any of this new stuff! I will call tho to see if it's ok if i take them this way. As long as my insurance will pay i would love to try it.
~~HALGAL~~so good to hear from you! Sounds like your life is going along great and the Atkins is still working so well for you! YGG~~
I bet that concert was fun. I don't know who posted the 7nations web site before, but i did go and listen to a few song clips and they sound awesome! If they ever come near here, i would love to get tickets and see them.
You are so sweet to say how you think of me when you get your red bell peppers. I am proud to call you my friend. I've said it before and i will repeat how important good teachers like you are to this country. I would pay you all big bucks if i had some say in the matter! Nurses and teachers should be paid more than the doctors and lawyers! All that the doctors charge and they need us to know the new stuff and question them on it!
I bet you feel pretty strong doing those walks and hills now! Been wanting to hear the latest on Rocky. I bet he really gets excited when you get home after a long days work. I recently found out that there is this shelter in Munising that needs people to be foster parents to dogs till they find homes. I might do that next summer. I can tell them it would only be from say June to November but i would help out. That might be just what i need. And if the right dog comes along....who knows! I know we need a small breed now, and we just miss our Vizsla breed, and the hunting we would do over her, so i can't seem to do anything yet!
We had our first meal of fresh partridge(it's really grouse, but around here everyone calls it partridge!) DH filleted the breast meat and i made up some batter and we had our own "chicken strips". We are partial to the drakes mix brand. BUT instead of everything fried, i made baked french fries(no oil) and asparagus. And we ate alot less than usual of the fried "pat".
Then we could still enjoy a bit of our SF ice cream later on that eve. We are making big changes in our diets and are happy to do it! That always helps one stick to it.
~~1DAY~~ we plan to leave right after Christmas for Az. I saw on the weather that it is still 100+ degrees there today. Wow, what a summer they've had. I'd like to leave in November next year(after deer season--cause otherwise DH won't be going with me! LOL) Christmas just won't be the same when we leave right after. I don't look forward to decorating or anything, cause then i'd have to take them down on or the day after Christmas! So i'm not sure how to handle that. Maybe i'll start my holiday on Dec. 1 and decorate EVERYTHING! and slowly start taking it down?? I am clueless on this!
Hi to ~~NITA~~you must be on your trip and enjoying every minute of it. Think of the heat you've left behind. It's probably perfect out east. And you will see the leaves change there too. So have a blast!
~~MICHELLEZ~~ CATLOVER~~~ BLONDE~~~CHACHA~~ anyone i've missed...we are missing you by the way! Hope to hear from some more soon.
Default RE: Happy Columbus Day...!!!
Hey Everyone... (is anyone out there???)
Just a quick Monday morning hello as I enjoy a few moments of peace and personal time. Say... "Ahhh.........!" I have been having fun playing with Rocky and see that he is learning. I wondered, but truly have not spent enough time with him to know - sad but true! Anyway... today is sunny and 74 degrees so I am going to do some shopping and running errands to enjoy it all. Colder and rainy weather evidently is heading in.
I have lots of school work to do this week (both high school that I teach and university class assignments). I actually have a university class meeting an extra night this week, but I am not going to complain. Yet...!
I am going to attempt to post a stuffed mushroom recipe I found at the WW site this morning. For us low carb folks, I would recommend simply dropping the bread crumbs and adding either goat or cream cheese. I love veggie choices that are low carb. I stayed 110% legal this weekend - honestly. I am very, very decisive about how or when I choose to indulge in carbs.
[IMG]http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/prt/recipe.aspx?
Type=1&RecipeID=93561[/IMG]
I made a veggie pizza last night and simply eat from the crust to the top. I did not think I would be able to do it, gave myself permission to cheat - and did not. I used Thin's diced red pepper, sweet onion (just a tad), black olives, pepperoni (there really is not meat here, eh?) and cheese.
I am walking more and more with Rocky, and he is pretty much house broken - finally!!! Life is good. I think I'll pick up the South Beach book along with my book club selection for this month, "Mary Todd Lincoln". Anyone read this one?
Have a great day, and I hope a few of you get the Columbus holiday off!!!
Good morning chickies just another quick check in. Still not feeling any better. Eating is back on track but have been staying away from the scales as I don't feel any thinner, but I am sure some of that has to do with TOM. Well I must fly time to get the little ones snack and some of them off to bed. Have a wonderful day.
Lightbulb RE: New Beginnings...!!!
Hey There...!!!
Me, and my shadow... da, dah, da, duh, da, da, da....!!!
Just interjecting some humor as I post predominately this week. I hope everyone is staying OP and having a good week. So far, so good for me. As we all experience dieting successes and the inevitable back falls, just remember new beginnings are a good thing! That is what we do best, and why we are successful.
I picked up the South Beach book yesterday. I've read all of the Adkins books cover to cover. I skimmed the SB book last evening and I must say it is Adkins? I don't see a real difference, and I really do not see clear guidelines on how much to each for SB. I found preferred foods and foods to avoid for the first two phases of SB, but nothing for maintenance foods? There appear to be many good recipies in this book, which is always a good thing.
Speaking of recipies, I found something interesting yesterday. I went to a new health food supermarket called Wild Oats. It is a national chain, so there is a good chance you guys may have one near you. Inside, it is beautiful. Prices are a tad on the high side, but generally that is normal for most health food stores. Add to that the fact it is in a 'A' higher end shopping center. Anyway (as I birdwalk here...) I purchased a steak roll in the meat department that was interesting. I spoke with one of the clerks and he said it was their best selling item. Basically...
Take flank steak and pound it out well.
Whip together your favorite cheese and veggies!
Examples: feta cheese and spinach
cream cheese, onion and mushrooms
goat cheese, onion and black olives
shredded colby and shredded zuccini
Spread cheese mixture on flank steak and roll up.
Tie with string every inch.
Cut into 1 inch slices.
Wrap with bacon.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
Very Adkins...
I picked up a Eva Cassidy CD yesterday yesterday also. It was playing while I was in the bookstore. A friend gave me one of her CD's for Christmas. This is a new release of tapes found in storage. Evidently she passed away at the age of 33 from melonoma. She found out she had it in January and was gone by August of 1996. Anyway, she is incredibly talented. Her family has a website for her at http://evacassidy.org
She is a classical folk type singer, and was very talented. I guess you guys have determined music is a big part of my life. I find it gets me through many, many, many situations.
I am craving chocolate. Big time chocolate. It is NO coincidence this text is in c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e color!!! Hey, the doctor that wrote SB said that was his downfall too. He admited their is no good alternative for chocolate - just indulge and get back on the program ASAP - have a new beginning!
Bye for now...!!!
Hello Ladies,
Things have been pretty hetic here at work & I'm still trying to get 8 days of vacation in. This monday my sister & I are headed to the casinos in Shrevport. I'm not planning on spending alot of money but we have a free room, so it's a nice getaway weekend. I am having a hard time getting back on track with my exercise. My friends are still walking in the am, but I have not joined them. I know once I get going I"ll enjoy it, but that 4:30 wake up call it so early.....
Hal - your right the SBD & adkins are very similar... I think the main difference is the beginning of the diet. Doesn't SBD allow more veggies? It's been a very long time since I've read the adkins. All I know is my craving for sweets are gone. Now if I eat some candy...I do crave more, but not like before. I've even noticed that I can pass up on pastries more easily. The key for me is to eat breakfast...OH, during my TOM I was craving quite a bit... so I eat what I craved in moderation & at the end of my TOM I had not gained anything..
LittleChick- hope you get to feeling better.
Thin - I'm with you on the Xmas decorations.. I love to decorate, but in my family we take turns on where we celebrate. So if not at my house I don't like putting everything up then having to take it down.. I usually decorate in the house, & put up a small tree. Now if we celebrate at my house.. then I go all out & decorate outside.. and throughout the house.
Mitchellez, Mooz, Cat, Jodie, Nita - Hope you all are having a OP day...
