Good Morning chickies!
I did not get on the computer much this weekend as I was shopping with Orla on Sat and Sun. She is in her final year of school and her formal is coming up soon so she has been looking for a dress and shoes etc., I think she has got all she needs now thank goodness.
Eating this weekend was not good but this week I am going to try and stick out the whole week eating healthy. I have been walking most nights so at least I am getting some exercise in.
There is an art exhibition/competition on in a local gallery, starting this weekend coming, and I have entered 3 paintings for it so I am a bit excited about that. I probably won't win anything but it is great fun trying!
Gotta go get ready for work ...............
Sending to all the sick chicks and to anyone else who needs them.
Next step is yours
Though the last step may have ended in disappointment, the next step is always yours. And the next step is what counts.
The next step you take may not seem like much. Yet it can make all the difference in the world. What matters is not so much the size of that next step. What really matters is the direction.
No matter how much life may have disappointed you, no matter how much you may have disappointed yourself, the next step is yours. And you can take that next step in whatever direction you choose.
Though it probably won't take you very far at first, your very next step can get you headed in the direction of your most treasured dreams. Every subsequent step you take in that direction will add to your momentum. Keep going, and that momentum will become virtually unstoppable. The next step is yours, so take it in the direction you truly want to go.
HI chickies.. there is no truth to the rumour that I fell off the face of the earth. I have been busy with making up dance routines for my little one we are having a christmas show in 5 weeks and I had been putting this off. I have two of three done. I also have been trying to get things organised for our ladies night which is in two weeks. So when I do get on the computer it is for a very short time. I have missed chatting with everyone.
Mooz - love those email jokes gave me a great laugh this morning. Paul sounds like he is having a wonderful time. And how I remember shopping for dresses in my last year of high school. god that wasn't yesterday. Well hope you have a wonderful day.
Michelle- my thoughts are with you. I am sure you will think of something to say at your dad's service. Just listen to your heart. send these to help you. Take care.
oneday- I am just getting myself back on track today. I have been eating everything the last few weeks. And the scales are showing it. So lets get our butts back on track so we will look great on the beach this summer. We can do it.
Well I really have to go I have another little one coming to the door sorry I can't post to the rest of you. But hope you all are having a wonderful day.
Well it is another cool day in Phoenix and I am sure enjoying it!
I have been busy all weekend sewing some warm-up blankets for my friend and bowling up a storm. I had my DH take some digital pictures of me practicing bowling on Saturday and I am sure happy I didn't print them until I got home from my tournament on Sunday. I had a rude awakening. When I saw the pictures I realized I really do have to lose at least another 10 lbs. My butt looked bigger than ever. However, I did come in first place in the no-tap tournament (if you got 9 pins, it counted as a strike) and I won $77.70. I also won another $13 in their "secret" pairs competition. All in all it was a great day.
As a further result of those pictures I did the treadmill for 35 minutes yesterday evening, and I am resolving to get back on track because I really do a lot of bowling and it is an enjoyable passtime. I am also trying to read Dr. Phil's book. I do believe he has some great ideas and according to the introduction this book has taken 30 years to get ready for print.
Well I had better go, I have one more blanket to print a name on and then I have to dye my hair!
Take care everyone and have a wonderful week! We can do whatever we set our minds to do! Remember we are only human but we have the gift of having all of you friends to support our endeavors!
Nita, Cat.... I also have Dr Phils book. I love the way that he deals with the emotional issues. Not what your eating but why. Unfortunately I haven't gotten very far in it yet.
Thin....are you staying warm up there? My dad in Eagle River got about 2-3 inches of snow. But also said its very cold...Brr
I am feeling MUCH better. I am back on track....eating good and working out. I will loose this week on my New Years Challenge.
Did everyone see the new smilies that were added? They are fun!!
Well I guess it's my turn to get a cold. I started out with a scratchy throat this morning and really don't have a lot of energy. I also have brought potato chips into the house which I never do and, of course, I had to eat them. Like most of you, food is comfort for me. It's really strange because I talked with my DD in Ohio this morning and she did exactly the same thing--bought potato chips and kept eating them all day yesterday.
I tried not think about how badly I was feeling so I did some sewing and it really did help out a lot. Today is my bowling league and I do plan on going no matter how this cold progresses.
I have come up with a plan though in regards to my eating. I told a friend of mine that I really didn't like to cook because it seems the longer I am in the kitchen I am always finding food to eat. So her recommendation is to eat Smart Ones for my evening meal. Since I do have at least four meals prepared in the refrigerator for my husband, I am going to give it a try. The thing about these meals is that they are small portions and that is exactly what I should be eating. I will also fix a salad to go with it. You never know how something will work unless you give it a try.
Yesterday I had so much energy and today I really don't have much but I am sure as soon as I get back to normal the energy will be there.
Well I am going to go and read some more of Dr. Phil's book. I decided I just need to take the time and read it because I do see how well these participants are doing following his 7 keys. I am also going to use a highlighter as I go along and highlight what I think are important items for me.
Hello chicks~~
I'm still not over whatever this is I've caught. Some days when i feel a bit better i do more, and then i'm right back where i started. I have to go see my doc about a pill refill anyway, and i will ask her to check my iron levels and whatever else she can think of.
~~NITA~~so sorry to hear you have caught a cold. Funny how we then do things we normally would never do. The potato chips sounds like just a reaction to needing "comfort". I would buy chocolate, but everyone has different comfort foods. Keep reading the book and let us know more. I don't see that the group that Dr. Phil has been following w/their weight loss on at all this week. I have tried the web site, but it loads very slow. I suppose it's all us people using it lately, i know Dr. Phil comments on how many more hits it's had since the big wt. loss group started.
You take care of yourself now and be assured you can eat a little more to speed up your recovery. You will be on track again in no time! I know how determined you are.
CHACHA~~now the weather is warm again, and the little bits of snow that we had have melted. The sun actually shown today. Yesterday was mild, but so gloomy and it did rain sometimes too. It felt good to see the sunshine and i got alot done.
Good luck w/your New Years Challenge. YGG~~ are you also posting on another thread for motivation? I sure could use some. I am going to get together w/my girlfriend soon and we really need to get started walking again. I hope my lungs are ready for a workout. So far i feel weak just doing stairs! I need to build up somehow.
No, i hadn't seen the new smilies. Thanks for telling me. Now i will try some out! i love when they add them.
Have to tell you all about the neatest thing on Sunday. The weather had been good n cold for 2 nights running and the river was starting to freeze up with some very thin"skim" ice as we call it. The middle of the river with the current stayed open, and a family of 3 otters decided to do some serious fishing right in the deep open hole. They were there for hours and this brought out 2 mature bald eagles and 3 osprey. They decided the otter would be even more "filling" than fishing(which is what they usually do in the river), so they hung around chasing the otter for many hours. The otter would dunk under just in the nick of time. Alot of people were stopped to see them. As far as i know they did not catch any, but was it a sight to see. All these huge birds of prey staying for so long in one area. I only wish my camera could have captured a moment of it. But they would have looked like little dark dots on the picture i'm sure....hate those moments when you have to tell people"yes, see that black dot right there --that is the ' deer' (or whatever) in the picure"!!
~~LITTLE CHICK~~ you sound so busy and enjoying every minute of it! YGG~~ Having the youthful zest of the children all around is helpful in staying young. We love hearing about all the stories of what is happening with them.
~~MOOZ~~~ i love your new avatar!! Perfect fit! YGG
Keep strong everyone, take all your vitamins-- I know i am! -- and post when you can. thinlizzie

Good afternoon chickies - I have finished work for this week WOO HOO!! They now want to keep me on but I will be doing maybe 12 hours instead of 16 so that will be good.
On Monday morning Orla had a sore eye and as she is prone to conjunctivitis I got her drops from the chemist. Then looking at it yesterday evening after school it looked like a cold sore. She is prone to taking them on her lips but I had never seen it near the eye before. So I took her to the chemist I usually deal with. He said it looked like a cold sore and that I should take her to see a doctor right away as a cold sore near the eye was very dangerous. So we went to the health centre and although we had to wait nearly 1 hour she saw a doctor. The doctor spent less than 1 minute with her and gave her a prescription for cream to be used on a cold sore near the mouth! When we took the prescription back to the chemist he was not happy as it said on the leaflet that it was not to be used near the eyes. He advised us to go to the Casualty Dept at the hospital, which is half an hours drive away, so we did. There the doctor was very attentive and checked out her eye to make sure there was no damage done. He told her not to use the cream that the first doctor had prescribed but that he would give her another prescription for some anti-viral tablets. These tablets are best given within 48 hours from the start of the infection but as the chemist shop was now closed, seeing as it was 8pm by the time we got home, I thought we would have to wait until the morning before we got her started on the tablets. I thought I would ring the chemists home number and maybe he would be able to get them for her. As it turned out luck was on our side as he was actually in his shop at that time getting some cough medicine for his mother-in-law so he told us to come on down and he would get us what we needed. Thank goodness we got her started the tablets last night. Her eye looked worse this morning but the itch had eased so hopefully it will soon be on the mend. Unfortunately now that she has had a cold sore there she is prone to getting them again.
I need to find out if taking certain vitamins would help guard against them. She is not a great vegetable eater ........... maybe she needs to start eating a lot more.........
I woke up with a headache this morning ........... stress I guess!
Anyway it's good to talk ..................
See it through
There are those who quit as soon as something goes wrong. They never even get a glimpse of the achievement they seek. There are others who hold on for a while, but then give up after repeated disappointments. They invest much time and effort, and then abandon it all too soon.
Then there are those who see it through. They find a way to keep going, no matter what. They are fully committed because they know, without a doubt, the value of what they're determined to achieve. They transcend not only the setbacks, but also the taunting and derision of all those who urge them to give up.
Thankfully, there are those who see it through, who put all they have on the line to accomplish what they know must be done. They bring incalculable value to the world in which we all live.
When life moves forward in spite of the odds against it, there's always someone who makes it happen. That's the person who is ready and willing to see it all the way through.
Mornin' Chicks~~
Had to post back to Mooz~~to say i too get those cold sores by my lips...and that it can be dangerous when you have them, that you might spread it to your eye--or even your genitals. Very scary when a person finds this out! I guess i've been lucky as i have not had one by my eye as Orla does. I hope these pills help rid her of the infection. Another thing she might try is to take Acidolphus pills. But take one daily to keep it in your system. This helped me for a long time. It is what is in yogurt, so if she will eat that she could try eating some each day. Now there is a new (but very expensive ) cream called Abbreva that really works on me. If i feel the tingling i put that on right away and it stops it from ever coming out. Give my best to her. Glad your chemist was able to get you taken care of so late in the day! And that you questioned the first doctor! My! hard to believe they'd have you putting that strong cream right by ones eye!
There is a winter weather advisory again for our area. 3 to 6 inches of heavy, blowing snow coming our way about mid-day. We had what they call 'black-ice' this morning for all the people trying to get to work. It was cold enough over night to freeze the rain on the roads. Now it's above freezing, but still they call for this heavy snowfall. And 20 mph winds with it, getting up to 40 mph this evening. I am so very grateful that i do not have to go anywhere! I will just watch it from my warm home.
Just hope the power stays on and we will all be survivors of it!
I will try to check in later on! thinlizzie
Thank you so much Thin - I will try and find out about those pills. That is what is so great about this thread and this site ......... we always have someone to 'talk to' and especially someone who cares..
We'll I have been sick for the last few days. I came down with a stomach virus on saturday afternoon & have been running since then Had lots of cramping & diahera. Starting to feel better, still having to take it easy on what I eat though. I have got to start exercing. I bought a pedometer so i can so start counting my steps. Is anyone else using a pedometer? If so let's have a challenge on how many steps we take..
Mooz - Gosh, I'm glad the chemist advised you on getting a second opinion. I didn't realize that cold sores could get near the eye. Hope Oral gets to feeling better.
Thin - Wow I can't believe the weather you all are having. Our high yesterday was 82 degrees, today I think it was around 77.. but tomorrow the big cold front is coming in... a high of 45.. Are you taking your vitamins? I know I get low on iron too... I have got to start taking my vitamins...
Nita - I hope your feeling better too.
Chacha - glad you are back on track. What is your new year's challenge?
The diet is a rollercoaster, again. I always do this, work really hard to lose about 25 pounds and stall. I have not gained any of the loss back, but I have not lost in 3 weeks. Part of it is teaching the cooking classes, and sampling the food I demonstrate. I have no room for these types of extras with my extra slow metabolism.
Anyway... this download reminded me of each of you. I appreciate this site very much... and each of you.
Hello my poor chickies, we a quite a bunch of sickies around here. I have had this cold for 4 or 5 weeks now and I can't totally get rid of it. So I know how you are all feeling. I have been taking lots of vitiam c the last few days and I am slowly starting to feel better. Mooz- I feel for you daughter I used to get cold sores all the time. Stress brings them on for me. I know have passed the virus to my DH and know he gets them more than I do. Anyway try taking zinc. Jamie was taking it and it didn't work for him but I am thinking that he was not taking enough. I am not sure how much she should take but I know people who swear by it.
chickies it is time for us to get off our butts and get back on track, before we know it, it will be the first of the new year and we will be that we need to lose a few pounds. So I am challenging you gals today to have one just one healthy meal and some water and I want you back in here to check in to see if you have meet your challenge. Come on girls we have worked hard to get to where we are and we don't want to gain all we have lost. I will pledge to get in here everyday and challenge you with something new to do for the day and to cheer you on. We can do this girls. What do you think. I will check in again later. We can do this. remember today is one healthy meal and some water. YOU CAN DO IT.
Thanks Lttle Chick for starting a daily challenge - just what we need. I will go and get a glass of water now ................
Your best face
You never have to be miserable because of someone else's bad attitude. Your own attitude is yours to control, and you can do with it what you please.
Others will often attempt to draw you into their negativity. They may whine, scream, glare, pout, or call you all sorts of names, but never does it mean that you must pick up on any of it.
You can lovingly and politely choose to stay positive. Simply realize that another person's negative attitude is that person's problem, and does not have to dictate your behavior in any way.
The most powerful response to negativity is not more negativity. The most powerful, confident, effective response is to keep yourself focused on moving positively forward.
Smile, and know that you are in control of how you feel, what you think and how you act. Offer your best, most sincerely positive face to the world, no matter what kind of faces you find looking back at you.
Rather than being pulled down, you'll be lifting up. And that's a powerful, effective place to be.
LittleChick - Count me in. I am going to go and refill my drinking bottle right now. My stomach is still quezy, so I know i'll do good on the food.
Also I got a pedometer, and i'm going to see how many steps I take in a day. From what I 've read we should be taking 10,000 steps a day... I'm only on 780 steps.. so i need to get moving...
little chick here. You girls rock. Good for you with the water. I on the other hand am on my way right know to the kitchen to force down a glass. I have had my healthy meal today. So lets keep up the good work girls we can do this. We will have new and beautiful bodies in the new year. I will check in again later.
