Fruit--Go for the hat trick and get 3 days in a row.
Jack-K--The carnitine is for energy and weight loss. It is all natural and the book says there is no problem with it interacting with anything else. Apparently we don't get enough of it. They recommend at least 1000 mg (1 gm) per day. See if you can find anything on it on the web. The book Pancho suggested on page 2? 3? is a good one. My doctor recommended it and also loaned me her book.

Angehaley - I am using my ds's electronic scale which is very easy to read and measures in half pound increments. A word of warning though. If you decide to buy one make sure you get one that warns you when the battery is low. A few years ago I had one and I gained a few pounds before I realized that the battery was getting low and the darn thing wasn't working properly. I got mad and threw it in the garbage and went and bought myself a mechanical scale which I used until my ds went and bought the above mentioned electronic one.
Jack: The name of the book is The Carnitine Miracle (Author is Robert Crayhon). He is the president of Designs for Health (nutrition program in N.Y.) He also hosts a nationally syndicated radio show, and was named one of the Top Ten Nutritionalist in America by Self magazine. He really seems to know his stuff, and the book is fascinating reading. I bought mine used on Amazon, but you might find it at a library if you don't want to buy it.
angehaley: 11 pounds in 2 months in fantastic. You really don't want to lose weight too quickly. It is more important to lose it at a moderate pace. I use a digital scale that I bought at Wal-Mart; I don't remember the brand right off the bat. I wanted to order one that checks body fat too, but am afraid of the electrical pulse it sends through the body. I'm afraid I'd be doing it all the time, instead of periodically.
Well, take care everyone! I am going to go check out some E-baby auctions now.
AFTERNOON FROM THE USUAL STORMY SW SIDE OF THE STATE OF FLA!!!

I know I've missed some one, and I'm sorry about that...got to feed the FURBABY......
I'm happy to report that I did it again! No cheats today! I was also down another 1.5 so that's 3.5 since monday! I don't care what it was - it's gone now! woo hoo!
I'm sorry that I can't take the time to respond to everyone, but the first 2-3 weeks of school are so hectic for me. I bring so much work home with me. The paperwork is unbelievable. You know all of the stuff that gets sent home to you to fill out on the first day, well, we have to take that and make absentee cards, locater cards, etc. and I've got to do all of those for 22 kids. Plus, get stuff ready to teach, get my roll book ready, etc. We have so many deadlines to meet and I'm not a procrastinator when it comes to my work - just my diet! haha!
So, let me get to work. I did read the posts - everyone seems to be doing great - let's keep it up!
ANGE: I have a doctors scale in my house - I love it! I think I bought it at service merchandise.
CONGRATS! It looks like (most) everyone is doing a lot better this week than last (or even the few prior), between losing weigh-ins and people staying on plan better, it seems like we're in an up swing. I think that's great! It's probably due to all the support we get here form each other.
Today I met with DM and the photographer (the guy we had booked with, not the person who took the pictures) and he seems willing to work with us and try to make things as right as we can. He's also going to give us free baby pictures when we have a baby (whenever that's going to be, I want one so bad but....) I have to say, I cried a bit and was emotional, but my IBS didn't act up and that's a big plus for me. Now we just have to go through about a million pics and find the ones we like (and the ones we want them to try and fix). I guess I should be happy, from what some of you have written and other stories I've heard the problems could be a lot worse. I think I've been so upset be this b/c I'm such a picture person and so we didn't have a video done of the wedding and we spent the most on the photos of anything (except the caterer of course).
Tomorrow I have to go back to the Bronx for what will hopefully be my last leg of the physical and then to school to take care of some stuff for my dissertation. Then back here to do some consulting work. Food should be okay b/c I can space it out. I had the problem yesterday b/c although I left two hours to get from the Bronx to Staten Island which should have left plenty of time to eat the lunch I packed that morning I got stuck in a ton of traffic and then the directions were messed up so I got to the house I was going to (I do consultation work where I go to people's houses and interviw them and their kids) just as I had to be there so no time to eat (except a few sticks of mozzarella). Sometimes it seems no matter how much I plan things just don't work out right. But that's just life. I've looked for protien bars to carry, but haven't been able to find any without sugar that don't have tons of fat. Maybe I should just get a few to carry in case and eat the extra fat once in a while.
Country: Hang in there. Gains stink, but maybe it's all that walking you're doing adding some muscle
Jecrites: I have two male cats (brothers) and sometimes they bite each other so bad, it makes me so upset, but then other times they are sleeping together. I haven't figured out yet how to get them not to fight and bite when they get that way. I also haven't figured out how to stop the smaller one from bullying the larger one off the couch or chair he's sitting on so he can have it. It makes me and hubby crazy. Has this been going on for a while?
Debbie: I love the pics of you guys. It's nice to have a face to put to the name. Someday I'll post my pic. As soon as one exists that I don't hate. As for the carbs and stuff, on average (other than the weekend when I didn't journal) I've been eating around 1800-2000 calories and about 200 carbs. I know this is less than you had figured out for me based on weight and stuff. I just can't seem to get the carbs and calories up higher without going too high in fat or protein. I keep looking for stuff, but amazingly enough it's not easy. As with some other people, I can't seem to find enough things I want to eat (at least not that are on plan). I hope this will get better with time.
Well, It's taken me forever to post this b/c the phone keeps ringing. I need to go work on dinner. I hope everyone has a wonderful night.
Bashful....Girl you've been busy...hope you will be able to post some of those pictures...can't wait to see them!
CRYSTLE....I went to you Ashes site and I LOVE IT...Your creed says so much...I will be going back, so don't be surprised if you see a post on there from me!!! You should post the link for GATOR, she will enjoy it too!
OK...BB4 is on in 30 mins....I've got to go....Have a good evening everyone...
I guess my avatar didn't work, oh well...I'll try again later.
Quick question: I know Deb posted something about this once (when I was in information overload) and now I can't find it.
When I was at Wild Oats, I bought a 77% Cocoa content large candy bar that I keep in the fridge for those occasional sweet cravings. Anyway, it says on the package that it is made with cocoa beans, but the ingredients show the first ingredient to be cocoa liquor, and the second to be sugar. It is the darkest chocolate I can find, but was confused about the cocoa liquor -vs- cocoa beans. Anyone know if this is what I s/b eating or not?
Just got home after a longgggg, not to mention expensive day out - don't have time for a post, much less to read them right now. Depending on what time I get up tomorrow, we'll see if there's time before I have to get ready for the funeral. My dilemma is, should I go early for the viewing as everyone else in the family seems to be doing? I really don't care to see my GM in a coffin, maybe go late before the actual service starts and just say back
Just wanted to tell you all I'm thinkin' about you
Ange, I also use a doctor's scale. It is a smaller version and the bar with the weights that you slide is only about waist high. I got it years ago at a medical type drug store.
Hello Everyone! Well, my dear hubby blew in about 15 minutes ago, wolfed down a scrambled egg sandwich and is now off to two things tonight. He has a club meeting and a softball game that starts at 10:15. We've had so much rain that over half their games were cancelled. Hence these weird late games. I'm just glad I'm not going into work tomorrow.
Eating was okay today, but about 3 o'clock my gut started getting kind of icky. I was glad to come home and relax and experiment with some food to see if it settles any unrest. This ibs is a fickle ailment. One minute you're fine, feeling GREAT and the next, you're in deep you-know-what!!! What a happy note to include in this post. Sorry, it's just so frustrating. I thought once I got some medicine, it would disappear. Oh well, I guess it did seem too good to be true.
FRUIT---You are doing so great!!! I am so happy for you. That scale is really cooperating for you. WONDERFUL!!!!!
BOB---You're right . . . we will probably never know how these low lives get our personal email addresses. I feel as vehemently negative about them as I do the people who leave automated messages on my voice mail that I pay for!!!!!
LIBRA---That's the perfect avatar. I like that way you have your eyes set firmly on your goal ahead of you. If we could all stay that focused we'd have a lot more great WIWs. Hey, great going on the FIVE POUNDS!!!! Wonderful!!! You and I are doing the same thing, RELOSING weight that I had just lost this year. One bad month and you pay for weeks. I'll tell you . . . I could write the book on that one!
ANGE----I'm going to have to say "tsk, tsk" to you. Every pound loss is a step in the right direction. So don't be poopooing that one lonely pound. It's hard to stay patient. I know that there are days when I look at the scale and want a full-fledged miracle. Remember, it's not good to lose it too quickly. At least that's what everybody says. LOL!!!
DEB---I love the picture of you and big E. You two look adorable! And I love that hold Eli has on you. Looks like a half nelson or something from big time wrestling. LOL!!! And your kids look great too! I think Michael looks younger in this picture than I've seen him in the past. Perhaps it's his dress-up clothes.
TYSGRAM---CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That's awesome news. You must be soooooo excited and soooooo ready to keep doing what you have been doing. Whatever you are doing, just keep it up and you'll have your first 10 off by next Wednesday!
CRYSTLE---Are you sure you aren't at your goal? I mean 155 is a good weight. Perhaps that's where your body wants to stay. Also, I've wanted to ask you about your workouts. Are you doing any kind of weight lifting a couple of times a week. I remember reading a book called Strong Women Stay Slim which was all about how women with muscles can get their extra weight to come off. You are definitely doing enough aerobics with all that walking. Just don't get yourself in a funk. Sounds like it could just be a nasty plateau. Hey, what's Ashes that BOB is talking about? Am I missing out on something good?
JACKK---That's a bummer about being separated from your breakfast. Wow, you are better than me. I'd have barged right in and gotten the treat and apologized the whole way out. Ha!!!
PANCHO---Yopu must be a tiny little thing. 124.5 pounds is not much more than a feather. Hey, you cracked me up with that story about weighing in buff at the ob's office. How hysterical. I wonder how many times the nurse has pulled out that one with the patients. Very funny!
DEB---Well, you are cracking me up about the vacuums. Woman, I just stand amazed at that brain of yours. However, I do have to say that the roomba does fascinate me. Wouldn't that be wonderful? The only drawback I see is that the little compartment that holds the stuff swept up seems awfully small. Maddie girl's hair is quite thick and if I go an extra day or two, she's fill that little cup up in about 15 seconds. I made the mistake of buying ove of those expensive bagless kinds of vacuums. NEVER AGAIN!!! The combination of static electricitiy and her swept up dog hair was a disaster. It would suck it up, but then when it was time to empty the canister it would fly out of that plastic can like it was battery powered. No kidding. I have cursed that machine over and over again. It's been banished to the basement to use on the car interiors and that's all. Wow!! Who would think a person could go on so much about vacuums? Kind of scary. How did your cooking turn out??? BTW, who did you email the 17 words to? You left out the name in that sentence. Here's something funny. This morning my boss asked me if I had any ideas on what she should talk about at the women's section of the justice center today. (Yes, that's jail in layman's terms.) So I gave her the 17 word pitch and she loved it. She said most of the women really got into it. Some were being rude while she spoke, and the others started getting on rude ones to shape up. She said it was great.
TONI---You are smart to not put much power on this first WIW. Give yourself time to really get going. I am so proud of you that you are back and that you are working hard. I'm glad that you are taking it slow on the exercise. Just build up your strength. Did I tell you we were in St. Louis and down to Farmington in May. DBIL graduated from UMSL So we got to go to that wonderful ceremony. It really was fun. Then we went to Farmington to see Paul's dear grandma. It was a wonderful weekend. Sorry I couldn't call you up while I was in the "show me" state.
JECRITES---I told the girls at the office who are cat lovers about your odd little kitty. One of the girls said her roommate's cat drinks like that by dipping his paw in the water. So your little fella isn't as strange as you think.
ROSALIE---You are doing great. I think there are quite a few of us who are RElosing some weight. We'll get there. Have another good week and you'll be down to another all time low by next Wednesday. How exciting is that!!!
Well, that's about it for me. I tried to go on the chat last night about 9:30 and didn't see anybody. Was it me just having trouble again or was everybody off by the time I got there? Catch you all later! Have a good night.
Yesterday was a really busy day for me so I did not get to come back to check the board, but I did get to spend some time with DD & also visited DM @ the NH. DD has been very discontent with her bf whom she has been with for about 3 years. It seems as though he still has “feelings” for his former gf according to him. He decides to tell my DD this as she is about 4 weeks away from delivering her first baby. Isn’t that a nice thing! Well, she has been wanting to come back closer to us anyway, so we went to see a used mobile home yesterday that we saw in the paper. She really liked it, so we’re looking at pulling it right next door to her older sister who is about 2 miles away from me. Hopefully we can get it & get it set up for her real soon. Meanwhile I think she’ll be moving back home with me & DH till then, which would make me very happy.
I’m afraid with all this going on, the last couple of days has brought about a lot of emotional eating & the scale is back up. Not good
Well, on to some replies:
fruitloupe, So glad to hear that you were able to stick to plan on your return to class. We know you can do it!
Monet, I’m afraid when we play, we are given away by blood work & the scales. Sorry to hear that your blood work was not good. But happier to hear that you are back on track with your woe. I don’t know why we keep sabotaging ourselves that way. I do it consciously, knowing exactly why I’m doing it then could kick myself afterward cause it makes me feel bad.
FILLISE, Sounds like you’re keeping pretty busy! Slow down & take care of yourself. We miss you when you’re not here!
Country, WTG on all the walking. Wish I could get back into doing that. I really miss it but just can’t seem to make the time. I think if I had a partner like you it would make a difference because I’ve become a little reluctant to walk these country roads alone. Anyway, I cut & pasted all the “hello”s to Tranquil into an email & sent them to her hoping it will entice her to get back on the board.
Your Meatloaf recipe sound delicious Made me hungry for some. Copied your recipe & will give it a try soon.
angehaley Interesting about the realtion between obesity & breast cancer. Your baby girl sounds so sweet. I have 3 grown DD & 4 GS soon to be 5. We were so hoping it would be a girl, but alas, we are not the ones that make that decision Thanks for the sweet compliment. I do love my job. I have been a nurse for over 20 years now & would not want to do anything else.
Debelli, Sorry to hear of your GM’s passing, even if there was not much love between the 2 of you, I know it’s still a loss & even more so at times when there IS a conflict. Thoughts & prayers to you & your family. I am hoping that this back ache will resolve. I do have 2 bulging disks from a couple of years ago. I would hate to think that I will not be able to tolerate this job because I really love it. The change of pace is so refreshing.
Jack-K & Monet, I am wearing one of those back belts this past week or so. I had one from the hospital which I had not used in a long time, but dug it out & using it now. Thanks for the well wishes. Have had back problems before & I guess it is just acting up again. Am also taking Vioxx 25 mg twice daily hoping that will also help. I also forwarded the notes to Tranquil from you.
Jackie, WTG to DD on VB tournament. Sounds like it was an exciting game!
jecrites, Sorry to hear of you very eventfull day yesterday. What a mess on you first free day huh? LOL That worm is pretty bad I hear. Hopefully I will not have to deal with it either. LOL
Toni48, Glad to hear that you are back on track. See, you can do it! I knew you could! Hang in there.
Pancho, I must have missed something. What’s this about gas prices & fighting at gas pumps???
SEF I had to at your description of the dilemma when you went to Country Village. What’s a girl to do? You said. Well girl I would have done the same thing. LOL Lead singer, well you just GO GIRL! And sooooo glad to hear the old familiar tone of contentment in your posts. WTG!
BOB, It’s OK BOB!! I understood your message about the worm! Hey, thank goodness fro those anti virus programs, eh?? Hey, I tend to agree about weighing a little later in the am, cause I have often noticed that my very first weight, especially if it’s really early, is not the best. I’m usually swollen when I first get up. My hands are tight & stiff, but rings are looser later & have noticed a lower weight. But sometimes we don’t have a choice about the time to weigh when we have to head out of the house early for work. the blonde guy joke.
Well I did not get to read today's posts yet. Will work on that tomorrow. Good night
