Eumie - That totally makes sense. He sent me an email saying the prices are fixed which I understand especially if you are in a small class environment and people can and will talk.

He is also moving into a bigger space soon, he says right now he can accommodate at max 15 students per class but generally classes aren't that big but he'd like more room overall.

Oh and I don't know if anyone is like me but I am a bit superstitious about events/dates/etc. I started dating my husband on my 30th birthday and I plan to sign up (possibly first session?) on my 35th birthday.

Nelie -
I was talking about this with my BF last night, telling him how happy Mel is with CF and that you are thinking about joining, etc. He quickly checked and said the fee is $150 where he is (i.e. Chicago).
I found out I was looking (online) at a wrong gym. The CF gym is in fact two blocks further than my current gym and I found out that 2 trainers (that I know from my gym) are now CF trainers there. The fee here is $120 (but then I live in a dump ).
When I look at the gym and read about the WOD's, it scares me the bejesus out of me. Of course, with my lower back problem there is no way I would even think about it. I practically cannot do pushups at all (not that I was able to do real military pushups before, but I was working on it and I could see I was gettng better). I really suffered at the TRX class yesterday, it just feels like my entire lumbar area is fused together and it makes it really hard.

Red Sock -
Sorry to hear about your back problem. I do know how bad that can be. Were you able to go to the theatre? I hope so.

Lydia-
THREE cubic yards of mulch? Are you nuts? I had two yards delivered two years ago and it took me a while to distribute it.
I think you need to sing the Mary Magdalene's song, Everything's Allright (it keeps buzzing in my head):

Try not to get worried
Try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you
oh Don't you know
Everything's alright
Yes everything's fine
And we want you to sleep well tonight
Let the world turn without you tonight

So. Let the world turn without you tonight and put your feet up!!!

Eumie -
It's called Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (or somethin' like that). I have exactly the same problem and it's a PITA because that means I have to give myself longer intervals between exercising the same muscles. Drink protein shake after you lift (although I will say openly that it does not help me) but your muscles need the protein infusion.

Everybody else, ! I gotta run to my yoga class.

P.S. Nelie, I don't know the date but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Alena - Thanks My birthday is in 2 weeks. We are going on vacation and when we get back is when I'm signing up.

Also, CF is very scaleable BUT you'd have to talk to them about how scaleable if you were interested. I have knee issues myself and my pushups (especially now that I know I was doing them wrong!) are on an incline. The guy did tell me he has turned back clients before because he didn't think it was a good fit for them.

Oh and it scares me quite a bit. We stopped in near the end of a workout yesterday and the people that were there were dying. I'm scared, very scared but I think I need it.

And I keep telling my husband about Mel and CF and yesterday he said (jokingly) "I think you need to stop talking to Mel"

Hi all,

Alena - Oh, so it was 3 cubic yards of mulch? thanks for clearing that up! I still have the visual of my 3 cubic metres of firewood...that is a big pile to distribute!

Mel - do you exercise AND mulch on one day ???!!!

I spent 4 hours in my garden this weekend and 3 hours cleaning...and I count those as exercise! I'm actually extatic at the moment: I am hereditary aenemic so I've had fatigue issues since I was 8. And last week I had almost none!!!!! I upped my folic acid intake after hearing the stuff helps making the red blood cells...and it is like I'm running on nitro! I do not dare to believe this can stay but I am surely enjoying it while it lasts

Alena - re: back issues. I cannot sit on a normal chair for long because of my back so I have a chair where I sit on my knees. the "wing" from stokke and this has done a lot for my back.

Have a nice monday all,
Rabbit

Another Monday...they sure come with great regularity

This weekend was mulching, tree pruning and yoga. I didn't do a heavy crossfit WOD. Usually I do, and am exhausted by Monday. Today I felt good when I woke up and did an interval elliptical session.

Alena- You asked about peonies and I forgot to answer. I'd move them if they are less than 8 inches high and keep them nice and damp. I'm not sure you should take my advice tho- I'll move anything and hope for the best.

Rabbit-Fantastic that you may have found a solution to your fatigue!

Nelie- Everyone looks like they are about to die at the end of most CrossFit WODs. the difference is that some people have done it RX'd, some have not. Most WODs I can't do Rx'd for one reason or another but I still get a fantastic workout and probably look like I'm about to die. It's fun

Gotta scoot to work

Rabbit,
It was Lydia who had 3 cubic yards of mulch delivered - at least I thought so. But I browsed back a few pages in this thread and I can't find that post any more. I must be going bonkers.

Mel,
I am attacking the peonies this afternoon with a tape measure. But I suspect they are over 8". We finally got a decent downpour on Friday night. Weekend was very cold and extremely blustery, with trees literally bending. The wind was coming straight from the North Pole. I briefly considered cutting grass in my down-filled WINTER PARKA last night (how crazy is that, eh?) then I decided it will have to wait till tonight.

I did 30 minutes on the TM this morning and I wanted to go swimming, looking forward to not having to exercise after work. Instead, TOM and hence change of plans.
Shannon, I am planning to download the podcasts from yogadownloads, Thank you! (if I haven't said that already).

Yesterday's yoga was extremely good. Our usual guy could not make it so there was another dude - a young tall thin lanky guy - think a spaghetti - (I was guessing of a Jamaican origin) - his style of yoga was different but I really really liked it. If there is a yoga position that requires you to tie your own body into a knot I have no doubts this dude would be perfectly capable of doing that.

I was the one on the receiving end of the 3 yards of mulch. That's after the 15 I already put down, and the 3 yards of dirt.

I did my stealth yoga today. I'm going to look into your downloads, Shannon. I printed off a series of exercises from a site that I now can't remember!

Squeeky clean eating for the last two days. On Saturday I was so exhausted and worked so hard that dh and I went out for really good pizza and then had ice cream. I can;t remember the last time I did that. I was so starved (literally) that it didn't seem to make a bit of difference...except that I spent all of today in the ladies room peeing! I'd forgotten what sodium and carbs do

Alena- how is your back?

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been so absent lately... Good workout last night, run planned for today if it doesn't rain. Or maybe even if it does. Who knows.

I love the yoga downloads - Hip Opener #4 is my current fave, but I like a lot of them. I use the Yoga for Runners, Hip Openers 1,2 & 4, Shoulder Opener #1, tried the Power Flow this week and it almost killed me.

Mel - I wish I could claim two days of clean eating... I was doing well yesterday until I chose to have 350 cals of chocolate before bed. After Dh & DSS were already asleep so there were no witnesses. Geez.

Alena - how are you feeling?

Rabbit - folic acid? Interesting.

Nelie - I do things often based on the dates around them. I do some of the CF workouts at home, and I imagine I look like I'm dying after, too

to all!

At the risk of turning the weight lifting forum into the yoga forum, where do you get those downloads, Shannon? They sound intriguing....

Midwife - the ones I'm using are podcasts from iTunes, under 20minuteyogadownloads or something like that when you search in there.

And, I just googled it, you can go straight to their site at Yoga Download.com and get them there, too. The 20 minute versions are free, some of the longer ones charge a little. I go for the 20 minute on iTunes, they are usually 23-25 minutes in practice.

The thing I like is that you can get the pose guide for most of them, too. There are gaps sometimes, but they still help.

I found these podcasts from a suggestion from Lydia I think, in this very forum.

Shannon: You weren't alone in the chocolate fest last night. I had some Dove chocolates left over from my "Open House" and decided I would indulge along with two glasses of Merlot. Well....DH came home for the weekend and it was nice to sit on the patio with him and enjoy the night air. Squeeky clean all day today.

Alena: It was Mel who had the mulch delivered. I should have it done though...all in good time. Thanks for the lyrics. I remember that song from the show. Actually, what I remember was how awesome her voice was!

Mel: So nice to know you indulged in pizza and ice cream. I know, can't make it a habit but once in a while I think it's actually good to do. Especially when we are consistent with weeks of really tough workouts and healthy eating.

Mmm. Bout those yoga downloads...Jason Crandell from YogaJournal.com is pretty good. He has a lot of different sequences available from the site. I sometimes use this one as a warm up to my workouts at the gym when I'm feeling less than motivated.

Oh. And I want to thank all of you again for helping me through my mini crisis last week. You are all so wonderful and I'm certain to sound like a broken record with all of my complaints before this is all over. I'll keep it under control.

Rabbit,
I forgot to say thanks for mentioning the folic acid. I have to look into that. I have been horribly anemic all my life and somehow, nobody diagnosed me until I arrived at the ripe age of 31 to Canada and my doctor, God bless her, told me that my iron was non-existent - I had so little that the lab could not determine the numerical value. Little better these days but it continues to be an issue.

Shannon,
I got the $9.99 membership at yogadownloads last night and I downloaded 2 podcasts. I played only one and I was not all that impressed. She kept waisting a lot of time on talking without exercising. But I haven't seen the entire thing. I finally pulled out my wireless router out of the box and installed it. I am online fine when hard-wired into the router but the wireless part doesn't want to budge. It was past 10 pm so I had to drop it. Thanks for the suggestions though, I will check out the rest.

Nelie,
You mentioned a while ago that you would be heading somewhere to South America for your vacation - is this it or was another vacation? Have a good one!

Mel,
Thumbs up on the pizza and ice cream! You probably still were in caloric deficit that day.
Thanks for asking but the back continues to be an issue. I am losing hope that I will be ever able to do push ups again. I don't even want to mention that I am starting to have an issue with an ankle. Yap, nobody warned me that old age starts this early!!!
Sorry - I was so sure it was Lydia carting around the mulch. Mea culpa. that would explain why I could not find Lydia's post talking about it.
The peonies are safe for another year. They are a foot tall already and with buds.

We had a team lunch today - always a big trap. We went to a Thai resto and I tried to be good. I had chicken satay as an appy (I do admit to dunking in the peanut sauce) and scallops with snow peas and asparagus as main meal. The main meal was not the best. I have half of it in a take out container for a dinner (no rice).
After lunch, there were cannon-ball-sized muffins and equally large cookies as a treat from the social committee. I stayed away from both (i had a morsel of the muffin and they were disgusting - extremely oily). Though I did have a small one-bite dessert from a catering tray. (we get tons of leftovers from catered lunches, meetings and what not). The small bite-size dessert was no ideal but it just hit the spot. Otherwise I have been eating ok.

It is supposed to rain today - I hope it will. I am thinking of doing laundry and Jackie Warner's total body circuit.

Lydia, midwife -

Where is Eumie and Red Sock?

Alena - which one did you listen to? I haven't heard a lot of chatter on mine, but I do the 20 minute free ones... I hope you find some that you like after having to spend money to get them!

Lydia - I like Jason Crandell, too. I had forgotten about the Yoga Journal ones... Sounds like a relaing evening with DH last night!

I'm here!

By the way, Alena, thanks for the info on DOMS. I think yesterday's workout has me less sore than last week's. I don't know if this is due to the protein shake and stretching, or if it's just because my upper body doesn't have the soreness issues that my lower body does (this workout was more upper-body than lower-body). Either way, I think I'll be able to do another workout tomorrow, which makes me happy!

As for yoga, I've just never been able to get into it. Does anyone use any other fitness podcasts?

It truly never occurred to me to think of searching for a podcast beyond the yoga. Hmmm. Anyone else? I guess I just read a lot, watch the blogs and videos of my favorite people in the industry and then tweak it to fit my own goals. Great idea though.

Alena: I think you did pretty well with the business lunch. It's so difficult to go out to eat. I actually have come to dislike it unless I'm intentionally eating off plan. The last time I tried to eat off plan the waitress steered me into the other direction and said something like...well I could tell you were one of those people who try to eat healthy. Figures.
