just a quick hi to let you know i am still hanging in there. went to the doctor today for cold symptoms and a noisy wheezing cough at night. left with another antibiotic, an inhaler and had to have a chest xray to rule out pneumonia. feeling tired and congested tonight but did want to say hello. weight has stayed the same for the past 2 weeks, only 5 more pounds and i will be under 200!!!!!!!!! the last time i was in this range was before i got pregnant with Sarah at age 40.

hope everyone has a good rest of the week, i may not always post but i read the posts faithfully and get a lot of inspiration from all of you...

Hi ladies! I am typing on my iPhone while Tom tries to deal with the virus I got on computer. It's not easy to do so this will be short.

Sleeping in the recliner last night helped me feel more rested. I need to figure out why I wake with such a sore throat. I sleep with my mouth closed so it can't be dryness. Honestly I think my uvula vibrates with my snores
and gets blisters on it.

Dinner tonight was tacos, beans and guacamole. Something weird happened. I had two tacos and some beans and guac, and I was too full to eat anymore!!! That never happens to me so naturally I was encouraged.

My son in law came by today with my grandson. That always brightens my day. This afternoon I got a haircut. I am not sure I like it though. I need to wash it and style it myself to really tell.

Ok I need to go do some evening chores.

Solly 02-19-2010 08:59 AM

Happy friday ladies,

Good news the snow they were forecasting has now been changed to just rain. Yippee! But I have heard talk of more snow middle of the week. No big plans for the weekend other than the fish fry tonight. We might serve lunch at one of our soup kitchens tomorrow if they have 2 openings. I bet I have called 4 charaties so far and no one needs help. I find that strange, but I guess a good thing.

Crystle, you keep saying it is going to get warmer. I'm having a little problem believing you. ha-ha. I am such an impatient person. Sounds like you have been one busy lady yestserday. I have been a slug all week and I beleive that is another reason for my lack of motivation and bad eating. I had planned to clean last night since I was home alone, but my DD left the baby with me for about and hour so there went the cleaning. I am not complaining as I would much rather spend time with my grandson than anything else. But now I will have to clean this weekend.

Mercee, yes you can certainly control what you eat when you cook at home. I just hate to cook. Not so much the cooking part, but thinking of things to cook.

Toni, we have to not let the scale discourage us. Remember there can be many reasons why you did not lose. Women's bodies are full of things that can cause a rise in body wt. Good job getting on the :tread: I know you will have a great loss next week.

Happy, so glad to see your post. Sorry you are suffering from a cold though. Good job staying the same with being under the weather. I can't wait to celebrate your new set of number with you. I know it will be soon.

Ellen, hope you can get that virus fixed soon. Glad you are getting some rest.

Better start on my work an get this day over quicker. I will

Ellen 02-19-2010 12:32 PM

Ok. Virus is fixed but now our Internet is down. Sure is frustrating! I am VERY thankful for this iPhone.

I am having a big church meeting here tomorrow. I should be cleaning but I just can't seem to get going on it. We are having 'stone soup' which is where everyone brings something to add to the soup. I just finished the stock and am amazed at how good it turned out!

Will check when the Internet is back. Hopefully soon.

CountryMom4Him 02-19-2010 05:20 PM

Good afternoon

Howdy ya'll. Just have a second so I wanted to pop in and at least say howdy.

((Everybody))

I'll try to sneak on later.

God bless,
Crystle

Toni48 02-19-2010 06:32 PM

Hello just popping on for a minute. I threw my back out yesterday so I've been down. I know its from lack of exercise. I sure hope I do better when I'm back up around. I'm ashamed of myself for letting me go so bad. While I'm down with my back Steve is doing the cooking so its different for sure. He's making grilled cheese on sour dough for dinner. I'll have this with light coleslaw I made the other day. Not the greatest meal but it will do.

Happy- I hope you'll be feeling better soon. Missed you posting.

Crystle- That was so nice Jess could cook for you all. I love anything on the grill. I get tired of my own cooking!! You had a busy day. I love days like that.

Ellen- Hope you didn't work to hard today. I love the stone soup. What fun that would be. Good thing you've got a good computer guy!

Solly- We're supposed to get rain too. Yuck but better than snow and ice. I can't believe the soup kitchens would turn down your help. Hope you have a good week end.

Where are you NurseDee, I hope you're okay. Hey Bob, and Tech and the rest of you.

Ellen 02-19-2010 10:46 PM

Instead of cleaning this afternoon, I spent a hour or so reading my UltraMetabolism book. I got through all the background stuff and into the diet recommendations finally. I feel like things are finally coming together for me with what I am learning in this book, the care I am getting from my chiropractor and now getting the sleep problems corrected. But, if anyone is looking for a good, inspirational, encouraging read, I highly recommend the UltraMetabolism book by Dr. Mark Hyman. So much of what I am reading in the book is spot on. Today, I read the chapter on overcoming toxicity. When the system is over loaded with toxins, the liver can not function as it should. The results are thyroid problems, sluggish metabolism, weight gain, and a host of other things, including blood sugar issues. Working on detoxing the liver helps the metabolism. His recommendations include avoiding chemicals...eating as much organic food as you can, avoiding artificial sweetners, (you CAN get used to not having sweets....) allergens, and eating foods that promote detoxing like dark leafy vegetables, broccoli, cabbages, and lots of water. Coincidentally, one of the supplements my chiro has me take she told me specifically helps the liver detox. Interestingly, once I started taking this supplement, I started losing weight.

I have the church function here tomorrow. Unfortunately, something I ate at dinner has not agreed well with me. I made tandoori salmon, and spinach and paneer. (paneer is a type of cheese) It was really good...but both Tom and I feel kind of head fogged. I get this sometimes when I eat certain spices. Wish I could figure out which one it is so we can avoid it in the future! I am thinking I don't care if I get the rest of the house cleaned for the meeting now. If they don't know I am a slob, well, they are bound to find out, right?

I will say the beef soup stock I made is the bomb! I am mighty proud of it. It is WAY better than Campbells.

 Off to try and get some rest.

CountryMom4Him 02-20-2010 10:44 AM

Good morning

Howdy ya'll. Not a lot going on this morning. I woke with a bit of a neck ache. I think it is from trimming the trees the other day. It's been a long time since I've been reaching over my head that many times in one day. *smile* I hate being in such bad shape.

Ellen...how cool about the stone soup. There is nothing more fun than having fellowship around a good meal. Our little home church disbanded about a year ago and I really miss our special times.

HappyNow...so good to see you. ((hugzz))

Toni..ouch on the back. I hope it gets well soon. Yum on the grilled cheese on sourdough.

Solly...hope that snow is staying away.

((Everybody))

I hope and pray ya'll are having a super weekend so far.

God bless,
Crystle

CountryMom4Him 02-21-2010 11:46 AM

Good morning

Just poppin' in to wish ya'll a wonderful Sunday.

God bless,
Crystle

Toni48 02-21-2010 05:19 PM

Howdy everyone. Hope you're having a good Sunday.

Ellen 02-21-2010 10:38 PM

Hello everyone! The fellowship dinner last night was fun. We had a number of folks drop out...one family had driven to Birmingham for lunch and there was some horrible traffic jam and they had been stuck in the parking lot of the restaurant for two hours! They did not make it. Another family was sick and a few folks we were expecting just did not show up. We played a few games and ate the soup, which turned out great.

Today has been lazy and fun. We went for a walk in the gorgeous weather...about 60 and sunny...then sat outside on the lawn in lounge chairs and drank espresso and chatted. Then Tom went running while I made dinner- veggie stuffed sole filets, broccoli and tiny new potatoes boiled with garlic. We had church tonight, then came home and Tom ate since he has to fast for blood work in the morning. I had a small snack of a handful of cashews.

Tomorrow is water aerobics. I hope I sleep well tonight. I slept in the bed last night for the first time since Tuesday, and I slept fairly well. yay! Only two more days until I see the sleep specialist.

I hopped on the metal monster this morning and was disappointed in what I saw. I hope it is as good as last Wednesday, if I don't lose. I really don't want to gain. Especially when I have been eating well, and exercising.

Its about time for bed, so I will sign off here.

Solly 02-22-2010 09:47 AM

Happy Monday

Hope everyone had a great weekend. It ws simply beautiful here both days. Saturday we took a long walk and yestrday I cleaned house then cleaned out my car and went to the grocery. Then we went to look at treadmills. I really think having one at home will help a lot. There are some days I can't get to the gym but I could go downstair and walk and watch tv.

I got to see my grandson Wed-Sat last week so that was a great week. I have bunco tonight. It got cancelled last week due to snow.

Toni, I hope your back is much better by today. Mine was killing me while cleaning. Some days are better than others but it never seems to go away. Yes, we are getting your rain. But I agree, much better than snow. They are callng for flurries later this week, but I can handle that. I sure hope we have seen the last of it.

Ellen, sorry so many people didn't show your your gathering. I bet your soup was delish. When you make veggie soup what do you use for your base?

Crystle, Hoping your soreness has worked out by now. Funny how we use muscles we haven't used for awhile. I'm sure with your garden starting you will be finding lots more unused muscles. Spring usually does that to us with yard work, etc.

We are missing quite a few posters, where is everybody. I stalked BOB and Tech on FB. Guess I will have to do it again.

Have a great day. I will check back later.

techwife 02-22-2010 10:53 AM

 Hi everyone! Solly BOBed me on Facebook and now that the kids are out of the house and Derek's gone to work, I have time to pop on and at least wave.

I'm having such a rough time staying on track. Is there such a thing as too much avocado? They had some nice looking ones at Sam's so I bought a bag full. I made some guacamole and ate it ALL. Nothing bad in it...avocado, little onion, garlic and lemon juice...of course, I ate it on torilla chips, but what am I supposed to do? Eat it with a spoon? Atkins used tomake me laugh with this...'Here's this great dip!" Okay...but crackers and any grains at all are off limits on Atkins. Should I dip my bacon in it?

Anyhow...I have LOADS of housecleaning to do and unless Mary Poppins comes and does that little trick she does, it ain't gonna clean itself.

I will be back later...

Ellen 02-22-2010 12:09 PM

Just got in from water aerobics. It was a great workout, as usual. Unfortunately, I had trouble with muscle cramps today. I hate that. I did try to keep moving, so it was of some use.

I had steel cut oats, with blueberries and yogurt for breakfast. I just ate some leftover Palak Paneer...spinach and Indian cheese, with a bit of curry. I tossed some raita (cucumbers in yogurt) on the side. Loved it.

We had a small group meeting cancelled tonight because the leader is sick. Not sure what to do with the unexpected free time! I should make Tom take me out to dinner, but I hate to eat out of my 'norm' now...going out is much easier on Saturdays when I can eat a larger meal early. Most nights we have fish and one veggie for dinner.

TECH: You can eat that guacamole on lettuce. It makes a wonderful salad. You don't need chips! :) I think you can over do it, but its not as bad as eating say, potato chips.

SOLLY: I love how you qualify a good week...time with the grandson! I can SO relate! I have not seen mine for over a week now, and I really miss him! I don't get to see my granddaughter anywhere near enough. For the soup, I used beef neck bones, beef short ribs and water. I threw in a few a can of tomato sauce, carrots, onions, and celery, and pressure cooked it for 30 minutes. Once it was cool, I skimmed off all the fat, pulled the meat off the bones and removed all the gristle and yuck and bones, and put the meat back into the broth. Because I needed a lot of stock, I added a couple boxes of organic beef broth as well. We added carrots, onions, celery, green beans, peas, some corn and cubed potatoes to make the soup. The stock was really good plain, and I am thinking I will look for the neck bones and ribs etc. when it is on sale and make a lot of stock and freeze it. There is so much you can use it for! And I like that I know what is in it.
TONI: How is your back today? Its hard when you can't control the cooking...so don't obsess about it...just try and eat as well as you can until you are up and about again.

COUNTRY: Oh, I can understand the sadness of losing a beloved church group! Are the folks still in the area? You could occasionally invite them over for a hamburger cookout, just to keep in touch. I did that for a while with a group we were very fond of. We did it for years, but its been a while now since we tried to get together with them. Thankfully, we have eternity to spend together, no? :)

A friend of mine's daughter is supposed to come over in a bit. My friend is staying in Washington state to care for her elderly mother. Her husband is still here though and all of her daughters are now living in Washington too. I really miss seeing my friend, so it will be nice to see her daughter, and meet the daughter's boyfriend.

CountryMom4Him 02-22-2010 02:18 PM

Good Morning

We had a lovely day with the grand baby yesterday. It's the first time my hubby has really had a chance to get on the floor with him since he hurt his hand. Mav is an angel. He just cooed and awwed and kicked around. He is also reaching for things so my hair is one of his prime targets. Praise God I'm not tender headed. He can yank all he wants..LOL He is also teething so it is drool city.

My mom and step dad blessed me with a chi yesterday so I can't wait to go play with it. I alwasy knew you could straighten with them but my daughter showed me how you can curl with them. She said the curl will stay set longer than a curling iron. We'll see. :)

Email tip:

Be Accountable
It's far too easy to blame other people for your weight problem. Maybe your spouse is critical and it drives you to eat. Perhaps obesity runs in your genes. We can all come up with a million reasons as to why we're overweight. However, playing the blame game won't accomplish anything. Be accountable for your situation and take responsibility. Nobody is force feeding you that second slice of pizza. Start taking the measures that are going to ensure that you lose weight and stop pointing fingers. The only person who can determine the fate of your weight-loss efforts is you.

This went along with Dr. Oz this morning. He talked about the excuses we make and said it is time to stop with the excuses.

Ellen..thank you. We are still friends with one of the couples it just seems like life keeps us so busy we have time connecting lately. Hopefully in the spring with longer days we will be better at making sure we visit. Our kids and their kids are all home schooled so they have a special bond. I love your idea of making stock. I'll have to try that sometime. Using the pressure cooker will make it a much more viable option. You eat some of the neatest sounding foods. Living in the country there are not a lot of exotic options. Though they did open a little resturant in my mom's town that serves chinese, japanese and thai. I can't wait to try some thai. It all sounds so spicy.

Solly...Awesome on getting a treadmill. You really will like having one at home. I miss mine SO much. I am feeling tons better, thank you. I hear you about the spring. My thighs are already anticipating the pain..LOL

Tech..I LOVE LOVE LOVE guacamole and avacodos in general. It makes a tasty spread on sandwiches. I love it with my burritos or like Ellen said in salads. So glad you came and posted. You are such an important part of this group. Each lady adds so much. And we all struggle and backslide so don't ever let that keep you away. ((hugzz))

Toni...hope you are feeling better. ((hugzz)) Hope this is the start of a GREAT week.

NurseDee, Mercee, HappyNow, Scrappinhut, Beth, Bob....((hugzz)) Hope to see ya'll soon.

Love and hugs,
Crystle
