fatmad Thanks you always keep me grounded and good advice. You will be glad to know that I already decided that since I'm doing well right now, I won't change it right now. I did gain some weight when I started doing the 2MAD, but I think that was to be expected. I'm not eating a lot of high carb foods. I don't eat grains or sugar. And I know most of the doctors say eat a lot of veggies, however, I can't eat a lot of those. Actually my way of eating isn't much different from the CAD diet except that I don't eat any grains or sugar during what they call the carby meal Reward Meal. That is when I have my milk and I could have a low carb dessert which I haven't made yet. I am losing weight so I figure that is a good sign that I am doing what is good for me.

Have safe trip home dear friend.

Pain came back yesterday. We went out to the store and I wore a different pair of shoes. I don't get much swelling. My wrists hurt too and right more than left. I didn't take any Tylenol. Sometimes it goes away without it.

FBS was 124. Ok with that but prefer lower .

Ladies, I also had some toe pain, especially my left big toe. But if you google gout, you will see how swollen the joint gets with gout, so I really doubt any of us have it. Run of the mill pain and discomfort sadly. Carol, I am very sensitive to the height of a pillow, will have a big effect on neck pain for me. It seems that you have similar issues with shoes. They have to be "just right". Skechers seem to be pretty good, with memory foam in the sole. I don't like memory foam for sleeping, but for my feet, seems to work well. In summer I wear birkenstocks, or knock-offs of them, a lot. I have a pair of closed toe birkenstock shoes too, but they are not my favourites.
I had a great holiday over all, but due to confusion at the airport (mine and then misdirection by staff) I missed my flight. I will have to spend a night in Frankfurt at a hotel and catch a flight home tomorrow. Phew. All very tiring and difficult. Have been fighting tears a lot this afternoon, not the least thinking this is dementia too. You know how I get worried about that.
Sure takes the wind out of my sails in terms of travel adventure, I have always felt competent at this before.

Hope everyone is well, the time change means I am now 6 hours ahead of you (they just started DST last night) and I didn't sleep much last night.

Carol- I hope you get the pain sorted out.
Trish- Sounds like you have a good plan.
Mad- Sorry to hear about your travel woes. Hope you sleep well tonight and are home before you know it.

Well, the good news is I am still really motivated to change my behavior. Still no improvements in the numbers. I guess the best NSV is I can wear pants that are pretty tight for a work shift after not being able to wear them at all for a month. My weight is the highest it has been for the last six weeks. I was really hoping for a drop (aren't we all?). I think it is all within natural fluctuations though. Before, I had been doing well with my little goals. This week I tried to make bigger changes and was not very successful. In addition, I didn't meet many of my little goals. It's all another week in the journey. Still really worried about my health and want to see some improvement in it. In addition, I keep thinking about summer though and how much better I feel when my clothes fit nicely.

It was funny you mentioned the memory foam pillows. My husband has one and it reminds me of a couch cushion. I tell him I love/hate his pillow. Sometimes I will use it when he is on travel. I hate the way my head feels on it but I sleep better with it. I got a different type where the memory foam was in small pieces instead of one large block. It didn't work well for me.

Things have been stressful at home. Our teenager got into a spot of trouble. We set consequences for the behavior. One of which was to not have contact with the friend she got into trouble with for a certain period of time. Literally within seconds, she was contacting her friend. So then we had to set more consequences- sigh. The other part of it is, this is pretty much her only friend. All of my efforts to get her to foster other friendships have been unsuccessful. It concerns me a lot and I have been asking myself is it better to have one "bad" friend or no friends at all. To clarify her friend really isn't a bad friend or bad but when they are together they seem to feed each other's impulsiveness. In addition, her friend has really good, engaged parents.

Our pets have been adorable this week. I've realized one of our dogs is highly trainable. He's part border collie and they can actually develop a vocabulary. I've started to train him on names for different toys. Our kitten curled up on a corner of the other dog's bed. That dog would not lay on her bed but curled up on the hard floor next to it. She looked rather pathetic. I was able to get her to move to her bed with the kitten and got a very cute picture of them laying together.

Hope everyone has a good week!

fatmad So sorry about the mix up at the airport. I know you worry about it but I would just chalk it up to one of those things that just happens. Hope you can get some rest as I'm sure the agitation in the situation didn't help having to stay over in a hotel. Hopefully you will have a good flight home and can rest on the way.

Carol Sue I'm sorry the pain is back. You had a pair of shoes that caused you pain last year and you had to stop wearing them. By any chance were those the ones you were wearing? I know I have some shoes that are better for me to wear than others. I hope the pain goes away as the day wears on.

My weight was 213 today. I guess it was the snack, but not sure. Yesterday was a 2 meal and a little snack. Today I'm going for a 1 meal day and it will be eggs. FBG was 125. Of course I'm still fasting so it should be even better by lunch time. It was 97 yesterday 5 hrs after my breakfast so I'm looking forward to see what it will be today with the longer fast.

I bought Dr. Davis' cook book for his Wheat Belly diet. He has some good recipes. He has some recipes of mixing flaxseed, almond and coconut flour together to use in some of his recipes. He has a recipe for Crab cakes made with it that I want to try. He also has a yogurt recipe that is made with a pro/prebiotic that comes from some other country. DH said he thought he said it comes from Sweden. I went on line and got the recipe and will make it when I get the probiotic. Amazon says it will be here by April 18. I am going to have to research and find a good inulin product to use in the recipe as I don't know much about it. In the meantime, I wanted to get the flora improvement started without waiting so long to make the yogurt so I ordered one with a 5 Star and great reviews from Amazon. It will be here tomorrow. I look forward to making his yogurt recipe as he says you see a lot of healthy skin improvements within 3 weeks and it also curbs appetite.

I've got my new supplement regiment and finalized when I get the Pre/probiotic tomorrow. I have been taking some of the new supplements for a week now so I look forward to seeing how things go now that they should be starting to really work. However, I do need to work on getting to bed earlier so I can get a consistent 8 hr night sleep or take a nap in the afternoon. My 1 lb up could be caused from staying up so late. However, I must say I have no problem going to sleep when I go to sleep and I get up ready to go so I must be getting quality sleep.

Pipsicle Looking forward to hearing from you.

Y'all have a super Sunday.

Mad the shoes that are working are Sketches mules with an arch support insert. They are an old pair. I have a new pair which I wore yesterday. Same shoe but not stretched out as much so I didn't insert the arch supports. My current pain is in the arch mainly the bone on the side of the foot right above the arch. I say current pain because previously the pain was right behind the toes or the bottom of the heel. Those pains miraculously disappeared

Pipsicle it's almost impossible to choose your teen's friends. They are away from you too much to know what they are up to. I hope she stays out of trouble.

Your pets sound really cute! Mine was so well behaved at the vet yesterday I thought we had the wrong dog. Maybe this vet made him feel comfortable. I sure hope he's good at the groomers. He tries to bite her. Not good.

Pipsicle Again we were typing at the same time. LOL I think being able to wear the pants that were tight shows you are losing inches so progress is happening. I know I have one pair of jeans that I absolutely love to wear when dressing up and I was excited when I could get back into them. I agree with Carol Sue that choosing your child's friends doesn't work when you aren't around. I found that it only made my kids want to be friends with them any way. So I have no real helpful advice for you there.

Fatmad I forgot to mention that my pain in my toe seems to be gone and I was never really sure it was gout since there never was any redness or swelling. It just seems to come and go. I also noticed that the joint pain especially in my hands was improved when I woke up. However I'm thinking that is weather related because it ha been cooler yesterday and today back down into the 40s and 50s and I noticed that as my hands got cold that the pointer finger on my left hand is a little stiff. Weather is supposed to warm up next week so maybe that will go away with the cold weather.

Trish when I first started having these foot problems is when I started wearing these particular Skechers and they are about the only shoes that I can wear. What I wore the other day was a new pair. The inserts wouldn't fit because the shoes were new plus I wore socks. I rarely wear socks anymore with these shoes since they are slip ons. I have so many shoes that I love that I don't dare wear now. It is possible that the weather effected my feet because we are having some cold rainy days after a sunny warm spell. The knuckle on my pinky finger is swollen and red. I can't bend it. I might risk taking the Turmeric again.

My FBS was 89 this AM but it was only 5:30 when I got up so was probably before the DP. I sure did like seeing that number though! LOL .I slept for 2 hours in the evening. So the 6 deep hours of sleep I had overnight was very restful. I feel good only slight pain. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow.

Pipsicle when my step children were teens they did some things they shouldn't have. I tried to keep in mind that it is normal for teens to push things too far sometimes and kept in mind some of the things I did when I was a teen. I was no angel. Most things my mother never found out about and I turned out ok in the end. Hopefully your daughter will too.

EDIT: I finally got brave enough to step on the scale. I am down to 183. I don't remember how high I was last time but I think it was around 185, so it's coming down. Hope it continues.

wow, its been a while since checking in here. My weight is 199-201 depending on what I ate yesterday LOL. This has been a year, if you remember our house burned down in March 2018 which started the crazy year. Since then we finally found a rental after living with friends for 3 months and our lease is up in June. We are buying a house in the city which will be different as we lived on 8 acres in the middle of nowhere before. I spent a lot of time in California last year taking care of my mother in law who had cancer. I came home for Christmas with plans to go back at the beginning of January but on New Years Eve my youngest daughter ended up in the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis. She came home from work breathing really heavily and suddenly all the comments over Christmas about wanting to be on the diet she was on went through my head. I used my meter to take her blood sugar and it was 495! She spent 3 days in the ICU, then went home and back to the hospital a week later with sepsis from an out of control infection because of her out of control blood sugar. Since then we've been working on all the things a T1 diabetic needs to do to stay healthy. Everyone in the house has lost a little weight because we've become very mindful of what we are eating! At the end of January my daughter and I flew out to join my husband as we said good bye to my mother in law. I'm hoping things settle down after we move, we'll see.

Donna! I am so happy to hear from you. I think about you often. I'm glad to hear you are getting a house of your own. I never experienced living out in the country and I imagine it is nice in some ways, but I am a city girl and don't think I could ever be happy being isolated like that. We are suburbs now, but have everything within 5 miles of home and that's what I like especially as I get older. I hope you enjoy your new home.

I had a blood sugar in the low 400s a couple times. Once from careless eating and a couple times from steroid injections. I was able to get it under control at home but it is scary and causes a lot of damage. I hope your daughter is doing better now. Type 1 is quite different from Type 2.

I hope you are doing well medically. You have been through a lot. I have managed to get below 200 due to stress and not eating while DH was hospitalized. It was one good thing that came out of it, and I'm struggling to maintain the loss. It is so hard.

Sorry to hear about your MIL. Prayers for your entire family. Don't be a stranger!!

Donna So good to hear from you. So sorry about your MIL. Praying for your family as you go through this time. You have really been through a lot this past year and I pray things will get better and better for you, your daughter and family. I hope you will be very happy in your new home. I lived on a farm with Hubby #2 and I loved living out in the country. I also loved living on the little lake in SC and loved the peaceful days sitting on the back porch. It has been quite different living in the city but I am getting used to it. There is good and bad about both lifestyles and this is just the season I'm in in my life. I'm glad your daughter is getting better. I know that was a very difficult time for y'all to go through. The good that is coming out of it is you and your family eating healthier.

Carol Sue I guess I forgot or missed you stopping the turmeric. I can put turmeric in food which I forget to do, but can't take the pills without potty issues. As for the shoes, I have shoes that are not comfortable to me any more either.

Congratulations on the 89 FBG and the 183 weight. You are starting this month out really good. I've decided this is where we have to just trust our woe. The weight is slow, but it will come as time goes by.

I've decided that the way I'm eating is healthy and so is doing it with IF. I'm wondering if the reason CAD did so well for me at times was because those were the times I was doing 2MAD with a little snack only as needed which wasn't very often. I didn't know about IF back then but that was how I was eating.

I haven't seen the 111 or the 112 weight in a while, but I am stuck at 213 for several days. I looked back to what I weighed at the end of the year was 221. By March 1, I weighted 218 and today I weigh 213. So I have gone from losing only 1 or 2 lbs a month to having lost 5 lbs this month so I consider that a good thing especially since I didn't gain. My 1st FBG was 122 this morning and it was the same when I actually broke the fast and ate a late breakfast. We are going to see Daddy and then going to Walmart over in that part of town because we need some diabetic strips. I like to buy the 50 strips instead of the 25 count. I also want to pick up a few other items they carry that I can't always find over here.

I've decided to keep doing what I'm doing. I did have my eggs, bacon, cheese and veggie breakfast. So I'm starting with kind of CAD low carb breakfast. Knowing DH, he will want to get either Cheeseburgers or LJS fish or chicken tenders for our main meal. I think I will make our salads before we leave and I can heat up some veggie to go with it. It will be no problem if he gets CB because I can make me an Almond muffin and switch the meat to it and add my veggies to the burger and have a healthier RM.

I have decided that I can create my own version of CAD and having the veggie/egg breakfast and then use the substitute flours etc to make healthier low carb breads or desserts and it will become like a CAD reward meal. This way I can eat 2 healthy meals a day and no snacks. This way most days except for days like today when we will eat later, I will be finished with eating by 4 or 5 pm. Also on days like today if we do get a regular meal that isn't really low carb, it will just be a regular CAD reward meal, but either way, I will still be eating 2 meals and be legal.

fatmad I hope you got home safe and are able to get some much needed sleep.

Y'all have a great day everybody.

Visit with Daddy went very well. He did mention car again and didn't seem to know where it was. I think his big problem was his granddaughter having it, but of course she had nothing to do with it having a bad part. The way the questions went I was able to let him know she had nothing to do with the car and he seemed to be satisfied. Couldn't seem to remember that all my Mama's family is gone except for a few cousins that I still stay in contact with. So definitely has a memory problem.

DH did decided to get a CB and I was very glad that he chose that. I came home and made myself an almond muffin and toasted it to build my CB on. However, I did have too many carbs eating 1/2 DH medium order of fries and a 1 oz bag chips and milk. I finished it off with the nuts I eat as dessert. Checked bs before and it was 104. However, 1 hr after meal tracking as they say from the first bite bs was 181 and then 4 hrs later it was 153. I guess I'm blessed it wasn't a reading of 200 with all those carbs. Back to regular eating tomorrow.

Even the Walmart in Waco didn't have diabetic test strips out. We had to ask the pharmacist if he had some behind the desk and he found me 2 boxes of 50 count. Next time I see them when I'm in Walmart I will definitely pick up more. My poor fingers are going to really be sore, but I'm going to test more so I can get a better understand of how the foods I eat affects my bs. I am determined to get this all under better control and I think this is the best way to do it.

HI everyone: finally home, and slept 12 hours so feeling better and well rested. I had a hotel room last night in Frankfurt for the long layover, and actually did sleep about 5-6 hours there, and a little nap on the plane home. The flight was fine and I am feeling a bit better about things now that I am rested. I am going to make a doctor appointment and request baseline testing for dementia and get retested yearly though. I think I will feel better if I do that. If she can't or won't arrange it, I will pay for and do it myself. Its very important to me, as it was so difficult to be with my mother at the end and I want options if I am heading that way. I also will have to make arrangements re working.

Other news: I am just a bit under 150 this morning. I fasted 42 hours coming home, I had planned the original fast because I am finding I feel better travelling while fasting, much less motion sickness, and I extended it until I actually was close to home, at which time I ate a "Good Fats" bar, then make a home made chicken caesar when we got home. DH also loves this meal, except he uses regular caesar dressing and I use the Paul Newman's Creamy Roasted Garlic dressing. We both at a large meal, and finished it off with some yummy dark chocolate with hazelnuts I got in the duty free shop. Waist is sneaking under 32 inches as well. The goal will be to keep up the activity I had in Germany, I know walking 3 hours a day is not a real possibility, but getting back to at least an hour daily will be my goal. I really let it go with the ice this winter and just could not get into using the treadmill. DH is much better about it.

Pipsicle, I think you mini goals are working for you, and when the time is right, you will be able to switch things up and make a couple of changes that will have a real impact on your weight and health. Keep going and it will get better.
Donna: glad you are able to check in again. That ketoacidosis is such a scary thing. Type 1 is a much more difficult thing to manage than type 2. But healthy eating is good for everyone in this situation, and glad it is leading to a bit of weight loss for all of you. In the Diabetes Code, Dr. Fung talks about how insulin causes weight gain, but that IF and carefully monitored blood sugars, with LCHF eating has lead to healthy weight loss of many Type 1 diabetics. DOn't know if your DD is also overweight, but getting to a healthy weight will only help the diabetes, and keep her kidneys and small blood vessels healthier. OF course, this must be done safely too.

Carol: you know, your foot pain sounds more like plantar fasciitis than anything else. It may be atypical because it "moves" but the fact that it is better with some arch support, or good memory foam support makes sense. Not everyone needs inserts for it. If you can get some Birkenstock-like sandals to wear about the house, that may be helpful too, as they are great for arch support. DH's PF got better wearing his Birks as slippers and using arch supports in his shoes and boots more often.

Trish: you are doing so well and overall losses are great. Like me you have dipped below where you are now, and that number is doable. Some time this week or this month, you will find the will and the right time for a bit longer fast, or something. I think if you do 2mad most days and 1mad a couple of times a week, you will maintain if you can stay lower carb. Its the extra snacks and treats that make it hard.

Well, glad to catch up with everyone. I will be back this week, will see how busy things are as I catch up with work.

Happy Tuesday

FBS 121. We ate out and I had an appetizer for my meal. We discussed that I eat when I don't want to and he said I don't have to do that anymore. I don't believe him. I am cooking tonight...chicken cacciatore. I will make veggies and potatoes for him.

Easter will be at step sons. DH doesn't want to go because he says they make weird food and there is nothing for him to eat. That's what I like about going there. I get tired of the same old food. But I will bake a ham with kielbassi and make potato salad for home and he can eat before we go. To me their food is great but his diet is very limited. They make ham but it is slow cooked overnight. Very different from the baked ham I make for DH. She makes different sides. If it was anyone but his son he would refuse to go and that would be it.

Mad I am glad you got some sleep and are home and rested. I understand why you are concerned about the dementia so it is best to get checked and ease your mind. I forgot about the family history.

fatmad Glad you are safely home and you got much needed rest. I understand about wanting to get ahead of dementia as I feel that way about cancer and heart health prevention. I don't really know if I can stop it from ever happening to me like some say or not, but I definitely intend to give it a good try.

Carol Sue I hope DH will stick to his promise that you don't have to eat when you are not hungry. DH has been better with me since he has been watching all these YouTube doctors with me. Although, I do still have to say no to some things he thinks is okay for me. And they might be, but I am afraid to get too far off of what I'm used to doing that I know works.

I'm thinking about joining Dr. Berg's online Keto Program so I can learn how to do this more successfully. I know what Dr. Davis says about a lot of things especially about keto causing osteoporosis, but I want success and I am 75 yrs old. I'm taking some of the vitamins that are supposed to help repair the bones. I read that kale and one other veggie that I eat helps with that too so I think I've got that covered. Plus Dr. Berg will answer my questions if I join the program. The only thing I don't want to give up is my milk but I do eat other dairy that he allows so I should be good with that and lets face it cheese is dairy and good for my bones. I still plan to make the healthy yogurt recipe of Dr. Davis' too. So I think I can still do keto and repair my bones at the same time.

I stayed up till 2 watching medical youtube docs with DH and I do enjoy doing that with him. He worked in the medical field for about 20 yrs and he is in his element when we watch them. It takes so long to watch an 8 minute video because he is constantly stopping it to be sure I understand what they are saying. I get frustrated but I think it is good for him so I endure. I do need to start taking a nap everyday though. However, I do still get 7 hrs of sleep and seem to do good with 7 hrs although I'm thinking no weight loss might be because I need 8 which isn't easy for me to do without staying up late.

Any way I checked my bs before I went to bed and it was 97. This must be when I get my low. I had not had anything to eat in 8 hrs. This morning my FBG was 122. Before I ate breakfast I checked my bs again and it was 139 so it was coming back up or the ACV/Lemon drink raises my FBG. However, I suspect it was just natural for me because I looked back and my FGB has been 122 for everyday that I take it slightly after 10am. When I take it later it is almost higher in the 130s, so I don't think my pills or the ACV drink had anything to do with it. I had 3 poached eggs (first time to make them in a skillet of vinegar water) over zucchini spirals with cheese and bacon and coffee. I did make the coffee with HWC, stevia and a very small amount of coconut oil. I figure a 1 pt rise in bs and hour later is good.

Lunch today will be grilled cod fish. Carol Sue stove top grilled like you do it is DH and my favorite way to cook our cod and salmon fillets now. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to go back to using ACV/EVOO on my salad and have some non-starchy veggie. I think for a while that I will try to just use my milk as my carby food. I will make some nuked cheese cubes for crackers and I will have a piece of dark chocolate with pecans. I read this morning that you are not to eat peanuts on keto although peanut butter is allowed. They can keep you from losing weight. I also read that pecans are great for lowering LDL and raising HDL. All healthy stuff. I will then check pre and 1 hr post bs reading to see how I do with it.
