Carol Sue I remember the man I worked for who owned the Health Food store told me that veggies are the broom and the fruits are the mop that keeps our system cleaned out. That does help to know why Dr. Berg says 7 c veggies each day. Perhaps CAD wasn't such a bad idea since you were to eat veggies with breakfast and lunch and then start your starchy meal with a minimum of 2 c salad. They were getting you to eat more veggies.
I don't know if I have that book on kindle or not. I will have to look for it. I really think exercising 3 days a week is good and maybe that is why CAD recommended that. I would like to work up to 1 or 2 fasting days a week. I'm bad about trying to do the most up front and I think that is my down fall. I am going to start over with my eating plan and go slower. My weight was up a little at 218 but I'm sure that is the soup I had 2 days in a row. FBG was 137 which isn't bad, but not where I want it.
I'm sluggish today because I took one DH OVC sleeping pills last night so I could go to sleep. Man there is know way I could take a prescription sleeping pill. I have slept so much this past week from keto flu like feelings and at 2am I told him that I needed to go to bed so I took one of the store brand sleeping pills. I've never had a hangover but this must be how it feels. LOL Maybe another cup of coffee will help.
I ate breakfast at 11ish this morning. Started to do just 1 each of egg, bacon and toast and I wish that I had since I have indigestion because I felt like I had eaten too much when I was finished. No fat in my coffee accept for the half & half. Making pizza for our dinner today. I always have a nice size salad with that and add veggies to my side of it. I always put some of the dough down disposal because I don't eat all of that. I might have the yogurt for dessert and do a 2MAD today. Got to start some where. Cooked my eggs in spray oil and didn't add any fat to anything. The main reason that I ate the full 2 eggs etc is that I'm hoping it will help me eat only 2 meals today. I would love to do a 5 hr eating window today. I do so much better if I don't eat at night. So I will see how it goes.
We really like the homemade yogurt, but don't like the jars that came with the yogurt maker because they are difficult to clean and get all yogurt out. They make a couple of yogurt makers that I'm looking at that has a container that can be removed and put into the fridge and you can dip out what you want each time. One makes it and even cools it down and you can eat it as soon as it is cooled down and it makes more than any of them. It is pricier but I might get that one. I didn't use organic half and half this time but it came out perfect and just like I like it.. One thing we can do is that DH and I could half a jar. 6 oz is just too much for me to eat at one time and I tried eating half of one and save the other for the next day and DH ate it. LOL I would love to be able to make big batches of it at a time and I could give some of it away. One makes 32 oz which is less than what I make now and the other one holds 50 oz. I'm leaning toward the 50 oz because I would only have to make it once a week. O well, I don't want to order it yet so I have a few days to decide. Plus I want DH to read about it too. I don't like making major purchases without his input.
Nursing home called DS and told her they had put Daddy on an antibiotic. She wanted me to call the nurse and see what was going on. He had blood in urine and they had tested him but believe he has UTI thus the antibiotic. Maybe that has been his problem. I asked her if someone could turn his cell phone on and have him call me because I couldn't get him. He called me soon after and said he felt pretty good and talked to me for quite a while. I haven't talked to him this morning. Too late to call since he is probably headed to lunch. It is a beautiful day and he doesn't like Dairy Queen but I hope they took him out for ice cream today.
Starting to feel human again so whatever the problem was when I ate is going away. I used to wouldn't eat until my bs was lower... used meter to know when to eat and maybe I should do that again. Perhaps when my FBG is 125 or higher, I don't need to eat. Might do that again.

Trish, I think exercise CAN be done every day, but they mean not to exercise the same muscles every day. I don't think things like walking count. That can be done every day. But they mean if you do upper body exercises one day, rest those muscles the next day and do lower body exercises. Then maybe throw in just walking. Just don't exercise the same muscle group two days in a row.
I just looked up that book on Amazon. $11.95 for Kindle edition. I would never pay that much for a Kindle book, especially one that is not new. I guess I got a bargain getting it for $1.29.
We are going to a club tonight for a birthday get together. I don't want to go, but it is DH's youngest brother, so we are going to make a showing. We had eggs this morning and then just had home made hamburgers now. Tonight they are just going to have some appetizers and you can buy what drinks you want. Mine will be diet coke. DH will have beer. Unless we are having a rip roaring good time, we will stay an hour or so. Just long enough to offer birthday wishes to the birthday boy. He is 60 today. And I DON'T want any birthday cake!!
So I'm going to take a shower now so I'm ready when it's time to leave.

Carol Sue I think that is what it means too. That way you could exercise everyday but just different muscles.
I'm feeling better today although I was sleepy a lot and kept falling asleep in the recliner. However, I did get some things done. DH showed me last night why we can't put much in the closet in the room that was supposed to be an office. It isn't a whole closet. On one end it has a cut off in an angle because of the way the hall turns going into the living room. So I can only put so much in there. The only thing I could put in there is my ironing board but at least it is out of the way. I think I will be able to fold up the walker and put it in that closet as well. I didn't do much today but I at least feel like I did do something. We will go to Walmart tomorrow to get DH medications. When I did our meds tonight, I realized that I have to get my bp meds refilled and DH has one more med that needs to be refilled that I missed. I just can't get these meds all order at one time.
I didn't order another yogurt maker. Instead I ordered 24 4 oz jars and the part I can set on top of the present yogurt maker and make 14 jars of yogurts at one time. I just didn't like the idea that I couldn't make but a quart of yogurt in one and couldn't prep the yogurt the way I want to in the larger one. This way I can still make enough for 1 whole week and make it the way I want it.
Carol Sue I hope you will enjoy the party any way since you are going. Do they live far from y'all?
Got the dishwasher running now and I'm going to relax and watch tv with DH.

We did enjoy the party and were the last ones to leave. The birthday boy was very surprised. The club and their home are both about 2 miles from us. I ate things that other people wanted me to eat. And then this morning DH brought breakfast from McDonald's. Why can't people leave me alone. Now I feel nauseated.
Trish I suggest you tell Wal-Mart you want auto refill. You will get an automated call when it's ready and you have 10 days to pick it up. That's what I do.
Carol Sue DH is on auto refill but the prescription has run out of refills. It is easier here to just email doc for refills to be called in because it seems to take Walmart so long to get the re-order done. Our doctor in SC didn't do auto refills so this is really nice.
I'm glad you had a good time at the party. Sorry about feeling like you had to eat things you didn't want. I am upset this morning because my weight is way up again and I think it is the breakfast eating and or the bread. So I'm back to drinking the MCT coffee for breakfast and no food. I will try to wait until we come home from Walmart to eat but not sure about that but will try. It will be difficult doing that for the next 3 days because today we are going to Walmart. Monday going to see Daddy and then Tuesday DH has doctor's appointment at 1:30 and we will have to go back to Walmart to get our prescriptions that he calls in tomorrow. I could skip going to Walmart today but DH takes the last 2 doses of one of his meds today and won't have any of it till we pick it up. So we have to go get it. Any way I am going back on OP today. I hope.
I will just go with IF and not worry too much about the keto. I will do more of a low carb but I'm just not into high fat plan and I don't care for a lot of meat although I do want to eat it. I will try to go back to 1 meal and an evening snack and try to make them 5 hrs apart. That seems to work for me and I need to stick to it. The problem is sometimes I do like breakfast. Perhaps I could move that to an evening meal rather than an evening snack although 1 egg with bacon or sausage would be a snack I guess. Maybe I will try that. Of course feeling lethargic most of this past week didn't help with things either. Just thinking things out as I write. I guess one of my problems is that I still like the idea of eating only when hungry like we learned in IE.
Well, will hope for a better week this week. We end this month and start the next with a lot of busyness. Drs appointments for DH and Daddy and I have my mammogram this month. Then later in the month DH SIL and her husband will be here. Maybe the activity will help with things.

When I picked up my meds I saw that it said no more refills. I think they will last until I have my appointment in early July. I have not been with Walmart long enough to know how they handle renewals. I never had a problem with any other pharmacy I dealt with. I have changed pharmacies a couple times and one time the Dr called in DH's rd to the wrong one. I hate going to pick up meds so I use mail order for most. Wal-Mart is ok because we are there a couple times a week anyway.
I want to do IE but the rest of the world won't let me. Already today after telling DH that I feel nauseated he has offered me a half banana and home made potato chips. Maybe he will get the message if I actually throw hop. Lol
Oh Carol Sue I am so sorry you aren't feeling well and DH doesn't seem to get it. Hope you get to feeling better. I've never tried mail order for my meds because we also go to Walmart so much.
I am thinking my problem was the MCT oil. It was the main change I had made recently and I drank the coffee with it and now have a headache. So I think I won't use it any more. Maybe it is just too strong for me. I like the coconut oil better but not sure I will use that much either. I think I just don't need or can't handle a lot of fat. I think I will try making the fat bomb treats Dr. Berg's wife makes and try that. I want the benefits of the coconut but perhaps I don't need so much of it. I will look for something to make them in today at Walmart. I need some little plastic party trays like she buys around the party stuff.
My jars and all the other items I ordered to make my yogurt are coming by postal service and I should have them by tomorrow afternoon when I leave to go see Daddy. I will probably try making a double batch of yogurt tomorrow night when we get home from seeing Daddy. We won't have any for tomorrow, but we will have them for the whole week and it will be nice to have smaller serving sizes too. I went to Amazon to reorder 2 supplements and found that I can get them together in one pill instead of buying them separate. This is great because it not only saves me some money but it is one less pill for DH to take. It's always good when you can save a buck.

Trish I was going to try making some fat bombs and was going to make them in those plastic ice cube trays that you just twist to loosen the ice cubes. Miniature muffin tins might work too.
A week ago DH had a stiff neck and now I've had one for 3 days. Today it hurt so bad I didn't feel my foot pain. I don't know what is going on with me with all this pain. My stomach started to feel better. He wanted to go out for pizza but called for pickup since my neck hurt. I ate pizza and my pain went away. Mr neck hurts a little but not my foot. I don't understand at all. I feel as though I did something terrible and I'm being punished. I think I need a few days to just chill out and do nothing but tomorrow I need to.go to therefore for Tylenol Arthritis and Benedryl Cream. If I send DH he will get the wrong thing.
I watched an online video of Dr. Stephen Phinney on doing keto. I don't think I will ever being doing what he calls true keto although he does say not everyone should do keto because of health conditions. He says 10% carbs, 20% protein and 70% fat. There is no way this girl can or ever will do that. He went on to say that carbs should be kept between 20g to 50g but doesn't recommend high protein. How much carb to eat seems to depend on the health of liver and something else, but I will have to go back and listen to it again. He says eat 3 to 5 servings of nonstarchy veggies a day. I could probably do that. At this age, I'm just not sure how strict I want to go with low carb, but I know I don't want to go strict keto as low as 10%. Dr. Berg says 40%.
I told DH that I don't think I can take the MCT oil. Not sure why but I didn't have all these problems with the coconut oil like I've experienced with the MCT oil. I ate a beef stick before we left to go to Walmart and when I got home to eat my bs had gone from 124 before we left to 101 when we got home 2 hrs later.
Carol Sue what is the electrolytes drink that you drink. I looked for something at Walmart, but didn't see anything. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place. Let me know and I will look for it when I go Tuesday.
Sorry about the neck pain. I have that a lot but chalk it up to whip lashes from the past. DH grands all have aches and pains even in their teens and I've often wondered if it has anything to do with all the times they have ridden and still love to ride rollercoasters. Not only did I have a few whiplashes from car accidents, but I used to love riding rollercoasters when I was young.
I hadn't thought about those little ice trays. I need to go to Dollar Tree and see what I can find. DH son and daughter's birthdays are next month so we will be going to get BD cards and I'll look then. I also need to get some peanut butter to make these fat bombs too.

Reason: To correct amount of carb Dr. Phinney recommends for ketosis.
It is a mixed bag this week. I was OP five days this week. For the other two days, I was almost on track. My weight is stubbornly not budging. A couple of unexpected NSV showed up. The first is - typically I really like fast food and usually felt like I had more energy after eating it. This week, I felt bad after eating it and didn't think it tasted very good. Additionally, I noticed another taste change. Occasionally, sweet things I like tasted too sweet for me. Hoping this indicates things are changing for the positive. I have been taking different supplements to try to help me. I dropped a couple but think I may pick them back up again since things seemed to have changed for the worst after stopping them. Today was busy. I've picked up a bunch of extra work so my weeks will get much busier. I'll need to figure out a plan to stay on track even with being so busy.
What a bunch of random thoughts! I try to keep up with at least reading the posts during the week and think of all the things I would say. Unfortunately by the time Sunday rolls around, I have forgotten what I was going to say. I think someone mentioned getting a new doctor for my thyroid. I've been through at least half a dozen in this area and over a dozen if you include the other areas where I've lived. The problem is they are not equipped to deal with someone like me. I do not fit in the treatment paradigm and they are afraid to think outside of the box. They could lose their license if they step outside of the "standard of care" that has been set.
I'll say it again- this is really important to me. In it for another week- hope it is a good one for all!
Pipsicle I understand about reading something and want to say something and by the time I get around to it I forget especially if I read at night and sleep on it. LOL
As for doctors afraid of stepping out of the box, I saw a cardiologist on YouTube who had not only designed a surgery they do to save lives. He began to question what caused the problem in the first place and did a lot of research and learned how to treat the patient to save lives without the surgery. He thought the medical field would be excited about what he learned. Not only were they not interested he lost his license and unable to practice any more. I saw the AMA do that to a diet doctor I had years ago. He was saving lives and people were losing weight. They ruined his reputation and pulled his license. It is really a shame that they would rather keep their patients coming back rather than have us well.
You sound like you will be really busy. I think you told us you work at home so will you be able to set your own hours. I hope you will have a good week.
Well, I had a 6 hr eating window today. I don't plan to use any MCT oil or the BPC. I will just use H&H in my coffee and shoot for a 20 hr fast.

I feel much better today. For one thing, it is not raining. The wet weather might contribute to my pain. My neck hurts if I touch it in the back but it doesn't hurt to move it like it did. I was waiting until the pain got really bad to take the Tylenol, but now I have decided to take it every 8 hours as directed. That seems to be working out better. My foot feels pretty good, too.
The electrolyte drink that I buy is Sugar Free Powerade Zero. I tried all the flavors and the one I like best is the fruit punch, but everyone likes something different. I find it in Walmart with the Gatorade and some other similar drink. It is near the bottled water and other drinks but off to the side a bit. If you see an employee you could ask them. I guess the Powerade Zero contains sugar because I have to be careful to buy the one that says Sugar Free. It works really well for me, especially if I've had potty issues.
I like Dr Phinney, but I don't follow exactly what any of the doctors say. I get pointers and tips from them, but in the end I don't follow any macros that they suggest. I have discovered that for weight loss, my problem is eating too much food.....eating when not hungry, and having large portions. For blood sugar, I need to watch starchy carbs and test often. I still depend on my G, but try to keep it to a minimum. I am puzzled about my pain stopping twice when I've eaten pizza. I don't know if that's a coincidence or maybe I am affected when I try to keep carbs too low, eat too much protein, or something like that. I know I haven't been eating enough veggies but there's just too many other food opportunities. I need to make them more of a priority.
One of these times I would like you to watch some videos by Dr Axe and let me know your opinion. Right now he has a program on Public Television selling his book/dvds etc. It's interesting, but I won't buy those things. There is so much info online that you don't have to buy his program. But he says that he is teaching the correct way to do Keto. He includes a lot of vegetables. I think he also pushes some supplements but I won't buy them either. I am interested in what these doctors are saying, but not what they are selling. They all say their way is the correct way. I understand everyone has to make a living, and I think the weight loss business is a big seller because there are so many people struggling with it.
When you think about it, the medical field is a business just like so many others. Retail stores put out a weekly ad to attract you to come to their store and spend your money, the doctors want your business. They act as though they want you to get healthy, but if you do, you won't be coming to visit as often. I remember back when I was a kid, you went to the doctor if you were sick, and that's the only time. DH is still of that attitude. He never goes just for a check up. He get angry when he has to go once a year or the doctor will not renew his meds. If he had gone for regular check ups he might not have had the catastrophe with his heart, but it's too late to worry about that now. It happened.
Pipsicle, I used to love fast food, especially breakfast. Now I dread when DH says he wants breakfast from McDonald's. Actually, I don't like breakfast at the local restaurant either. DH makes scrambled eggs that are so light anf fluffy. He needs to go to these places and teach them how to do it. Theirs are rubbery and tasteless. I have found that I can eat a plain small fast food hamburger with nothing on it. It nauseates me to see them piled high with all the junk on them. I have found a spot in my heart for chicken McNuggets, though! LOL
Carol Sue I'm glad you are feeling better. We are having a cloudy day and rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week. You might know it as we have a very busy week. I suddenly remembered last night that DH has yearly eye exam Friday. I already called Daddy and told him we were coming to see him today and that I won't be coming our Friday as I will have to go get my hair done and then rush back home and get DH for us to go for his eye exam. I really need to go to HEB some time this week. Fridays are usually when I go. I had planned to go see Daddy and come straight home, but might have to run by that store on the way home.
I corrected something I said wrong on an earlier post concerting what Dr. Phinney said about the amount of carbs we should be eating for ketosis. I had said 20 to 50% carbs, but it should have been 20 to 50 grams of carbs. Dr. Berg says 40 g.
Dr. Phinney says there are a lot of different low carb diets out there and a lot of them are by people who aren't doctors and don't know what they are talking about as they are really only sharing their experience of what worked for them. So he is saying about the same as the others.
Dr. Berg sells some of his products too, but I don't buy them either. Some of the things I think are important that I want to get, I have found that I can find a comparable product at Amazon or the store that are less pricey.
Dr. Phinney also mentioned IF, but I want to go back and listen to it again to see what it said. If I heard him correctly, I don't think you have to do VLC when doing IF. I'll have to check that out though.
I don't know what I weigh. Our bathroom is so small and DH moves the scales when he steps on them to get the laundry basket of clothes to take them to laundry room for me. My weight has been really high lately and I realized today that he had moved them. I saw him do it one day and he doesn't even know he does it. I moved it back and while it didn't say what I wanted to see, it made more sense and it was good to see I wasn't in the 220s again. I was ready to panic since I knew I couldn't possibly weigh that much. FBG was 147 but that is the reading before coffee no BPC although I did use H&H as Dr. Berg recommends. The coffee supposedly doesn't break my fast so I won't break it until we get back from seeing Daddy. It was 101 yesterday so I hope that will become a norm. We got KFC which is DH favorite. I don't mind getting it any more since I don't like their original batter so I take it off and just eat the chicken. I did have a little bit of the coleslaw that he will eat a little of till he runs out of it or it goes bad. I also had a big serving of veggies with it so I consider myself having been 0P.
I made a salmon/guacamole combo last night and had it with my yogurt. After hearing these 2 docs talk about not having to eat so much protein, I'm thinking about changing my evening snack to a small meal of yogurt and veggies to get my veggies in. I figure with the meat at lunch and the yogurt in the evening that I probably get plenty of healthy protein. Even with the KFC, I feel like I'm back on track. I might even be able to get into ketosis or close to it. At any rate, I will be eating less carbs.

Trish many people don't do low carb when they do IF but I feel it is still necessary for diabetes. I think the long fasting period was what was working for me when DH was in the hospital but I think I was eating low calorie too.
My step son gave us some home made sauerkraut so we had it today with hot dogs and kielbassi. I feel hungry now but I think that's only because I know there's some left. I do not want to mess up my fasting window. I bought the cheeses needed to make lasagna tomorrow. I also bought a red pepper to chop up in my eggs with onion and mushroom.
My foot pain came back after I walked around in Wal-Mart. I might try using one of the driving carts. Last time I tried I knocked over a display. Lol
Carol Sue I watched some videos by Dr. Axe. I was impressed with the story about his mother having cancer years ago and evidently is now cancer free and is the reason he got into nutrition and became a chiropractor. It is amazing to me how many chiropractors are also very much into nutrition. The one we went to in SC is the reason I got into eating cleaner with lots of veggies.
His plan is not much different than what Dr. Phinney's although he uses shakes etc that I'm not sure Dr. Phinney or even some of the other keto doctors would use. However, everyone has their own forms/idea to help them stay on plan. Like Dr. Phinney he says 5 or10 % carbs, 20 to 25 % protein and the rest should be fat. I did find one thing interesting that he said that I had not heard any where else. He said drink plenty of water and he also stressed not to eat more than 25% protein because if you eat 30% of you calories in protein that the protein will most likely cause bs to go up. This tells me that I should be eating less protein as well as carbs. He also says that a lot of keto people eat way too much cheese and don't get enough good fat. He also told a woman on Dr. Oz video that everyone gets some keto flu on keto but that it is worse when you do dirty keto. I have to say that since my lifestyle causes me to go in and out of keto that I probably do more of a dirty keto. I heard him say you really need to know these things before you decide to go keto. So this makes me think maybe I should eat more fat and less carbs and protein, but not really worry about going VLC which is the category that I think keto would fall into. Maybe that is why I should go more IE/IF.
I say IE/IF because I got a copy of the Diabetes Management Magazine in the mail today. They are now saying that dieting might not be the way to go after all and they are looking into Intuitive Eating as a way of eating. They seem to be looking into different ways of dieting now because they are seeing that we aren't any leaner or healthier following what they have told us to do over the years. They are finally seeing that no one diet is for everybody. They are saying that we should learn to eat to be healthier at any size.
I fasted until 4 today and was disappointed that my FBG was 121. After listening to Dr. Axe I think it was the sugar in the coleslaw and I had too much protein last night and of course, I didn't have the BPC today. Maybe I will try drinking a cup of BPC this evening. I would like to fast until we get home tomorrow, but I'm not sure I can do that. I will be home both Wednesday and Thursday so may try a longer fast those days. I really like the idea of just eating to be healthy and not worry about the weight at this time and trust that it will eventually happen. I still like some of the IE guidelines. I do have to eat when I eat the main meal with DH eat only as needed the rest of the time.
I got the jars and tier for making the yogurt. I may make it later tonight as it has to set for 10 hrs now instead of 8 although it would probably be best to make it in the morning. I wouldn't have any yogurt tonight or tomorrow night but it would be easier to let it make during my awake hours instead of me having to get up early to put them in fridge.
