I only got 4 hours of sleep the night before last. Yesterday I was falling asleep in my recliner so I went in to take a nap at 5:30 and didn't get up until 6:30 this morning. I wok up around midnight and went to the bathroom and changed into my nightgown. 11 1/2 hours of sleep! I feel very rested but have a lot of pain. Blood sugar is 101 so that's not causing the pain. DH said we aren't going to the casino today so we shall see. He usually changes his mind. He actually said yes getting tired of the long drive.
My stomach is growling but I don't actually feel hungry. For some reason I rarely feel hunger. I would like to wait it out and see how long it takes but if DH makes breakfast He will want me to eat. He will probably not get up until 9.
Well, yes, he did change his mind and wants to go to the casino today. This morning he pulled out the stove and helped me clean under, behind and around it. Crap falls down between the stove and refrigerator and it's impossible to clean without pulling the stove out. Next will be the refrigerator. He also mopped the floor and the kitchen looks great. He has earned his trip to the casino. We are still spending his winnings.

Carol Sue I think the pain is from laying in bed so long. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing myself any good staying in bed more than 7 or 8 hrs because my body aches when I wake up. It takes me a while before I can get up when that happens. However, this morning I did do the core exercises they taught DH to do in rehab after neck surgery. Of course, he never did them outside of rehab, but I remember the therapist saying that you have to take care of the core first. I have to say that I feel good after doing them, but also I have to admit that it is more of a struggle when I sleep so long that my body is in pain too. I need to learn to add a nap during the day, but I never liked taking them as a child and still whenever I try to take one, someone calls on the phone or DH says something and wakes me up.
1st FBG was 146 this morning. DH decided at 9 he was hungry and wanted me to fix eggs so I boiled 2 for him and 2 for me. I didn't have anything but the eggs. I'm not sure that is good for me to do. So today I'm going to have eggs, bacon, cheese and kale for breakfast. I will nuke the kale and just added it to my eggs after frying. I will do that around noon since we are probably not going to eat until around 5ish. We have an appointment with retirement center and Daddy and then going out to steakhouse with DS and her hubby. It will definitely be a keto day for me. My eating window will be more of a 5 hr window which actually works better for me than 4 so that should work out good. I will just have to adjust to cooking breakfast for me and then cooking eggs for him at night. Not sure what I will do tomorrow since I go to beauty shop and then shopping before I go see Daddy. I want to get him some salads to put in his little fridge. Warmer weather just means I can't visit as long because I don't want things left in car too long. He will have his food so he will be happy. Strange that food can make him happy, maybe that is why we have weight problems.
I was thinking this morning about how I was as a child. I never wondered about what I was going to eat. I never was hungry enough to worry about it I don't guess. When I was hungry, I would eat something, but many a day, I just didn't get hungry. I remember the family sitting around me eating sweets of some kind and they didn't even tempt me. I just didn't want them. Oh for those days to return. DS told me yesterday that her first husband told her that she had to teach their son to eat sugar. He obviously was like me. Strange isn't it.
Carol Sue I find it interesting that while Dr. Berg suggests eating loads of veggies (7 to 10 cups a day), he says to be sure to eat your protein but don't overdo the protein as it will raise blood sugar. Most Keto diets or LCHF diets do not say that. I remember reading a book once by a woman doctor saying the same thing about too much protein. Maybe that is why I could never be a carnivore. I have to admit there are times that I crave certain meats especially pork ribs or a really good steak, but I realized one day that once I have it that I can go for days or even weeks or months before I am hungry for it again.
We got to the retirement center and the meetings were running late so we didn't get in for our turn until almost an hour later so my eating hours ended up being 6 hrs. I stayed OP by eating half rack of baby back ribs although I did eat some of the BBQ sauce but had it on the side. I had a salad with balsamic dressing and green beans. I didn't eat any of the bread so the BBQ sauce was the only off thing on my eating plan today.
Tomorrow I will take my BPC with me like I did last week hoping it will help me with my fasting. I will leave beauty shop tomorrow to go to HEB store because I want to get m coffee and salad veggies etc that I can only get there. I am going to attempt to fast until we eat lunch tomorrow so I will get a 20 hr fast. Then fast until breakfast Saturday.
Carol Sue Hope y'all had a good day at the casino today.

Not a good day at the casino. We brought some money home but left more of it there. I walked all over the casino with no foot pain and still none this morning. It would be nice if it was just gone like the elbow pain that just went away one day after months of pain.
My tastes have changed so much. There are so many things I don't like any more. I will eat pulled pork or ribs but no chops or roast anymore. I can force a burger. I was never really big on steak. I love chicken and fish. I think most of my protein is eggs. My favorite are scrambled or fried with runny yolks. I will eat boiled but not a favorite. There are not many foods that I won't eat if there's no other option but they are just not something I would choose. I still love some deli meat but don't buy it because I will eat too much of it.
Headed out to the beauty shop in a few minutes. I want to go by the store to get a couple of small salads Daddy can keep in fridge and have when he wants it. I also need to get some more coffee, broccoli and salad items. Also want to get salmon fillets for lunch and maybe some pork chops too.
Weight up only .2 lbs from the little sugar in the BBQ sauce. I would not have eaten it but the ribs were so dry. I won't have them at the steakhouse again. In fact, I'm glad I tried them because DH SIL and her Hubby are coming to see us in May and we would have taken them there to eat. Will have to try this steakhouse closer to us before they come. I would love to take them to Chip and Joanna's restaurant but I've heard the line is so long to get into that place and I think they close at 2pm. I need to check with my niece who works there on all that. I don't think they take reservations.
FBG was up but I'm sure that was the sugar as well as the fact that all this checking is an hour or 2 early too. I am going to do my best to go strict keto starting today. I do want to read more of what Dr. Fung says to eat.
I will share about our meeting retirement center later. It was quite an eventful experience. I hope for a good visit with my Daddy today.
Carol Sue It is strange but I didn't buy regular cukes last week and my joints hurt. Just the few I had yesterday in my salad at the restaurant and less joint pain this morning. I too am learning that I don't care to have a lot of the foods I used to eat either.
Just a quick hello, online at the hotel. Two more nights here. Have had but one good sleep here. Going to try a nap now.
Have walked 3 or more hours every day. Doing ok with that but my back is tired.
Will chat more when I get home. Best wishes friends.

Trish every time I think I have the source of my pain figured out I find out I'm wrong. I don't think I will ever know. DH had an aunt who was always doctoring for foot pain and never got relief. Doctors told her to lose weight. She ended up in a wheel chair before she passed away. I now understand how she felt. I am determined to beat this.
Now that you mentioned cukes I wish I had some.

fatmad 3 hrs walking a day should have helped with anything you ate that's for sure. Have a safe trip home.
Carol Sue I had found these little cucumbers that were really long and thin but only about 5 or 6 inches long in a bag. I probably will throw them out since they are mushy and not all that good. I bought those because the English cukes were so thin last week and I don't like them that thin. I found a nice one today at the store and got it. My joints should improve.
I got an email from Dr. Fung's IDM on Side effects of IF. One of the side effects is Gout. He said stick to the fasting when you start and add 1 to 3 tbls of lime juice to water and take cherry root extract which will not interfere with fasting. There was an added tip that when you first start IF to do it slowly going from 3 meals to 2 meals to OMAD and do up to full fasting within 1 to 2 months then if you develop gout you should scale back some and use this tip along with the other solutions of lime water and cherry root extract. I never have gout until I try fasting or low carb. So I guess I will go back to the 2 meals and/or a small snack for a while and see if it improves. I also read a long time ago that spinach can cause and have been eating it in my salad because it was in the mixed greens I bought last week.
We had a good meeting with the Rest Home staff and solved most of the problems. However, Daddy complained about the bus and outings because he feels it is poorly scheduled etc. He never seemed to accept the explanation that sometimes things change because there is one bus and outings have to work around doctors appointments and picking people up from the hospital. DS and I felt so sorry for the Activity director because he had her almost to tears. He was the manager of a tire company and scheduled peoples jobs and thinks they are insufficient. He felt like we thought he was dumb, however, DS and I were upset tht he was being unreasonable. They finally told him they knew things could improve but it is the best they could do at this time. He did finally tell them that he wanted them to know that he appreciate everything they do and that they do a good job. It ended okay, but it was real.
We also learned from him that he and the guy he was friends with and worked with at the plant had a fight. The first thing Daddy said to DS and me was "Did you get a call on me today" Then he proceeded to tell us about what happened. The guy is always making crazy statements to Daddy about Daddy's Mother asking him, "Didn't your Mother ever tell you _____ when you were a child or 17 yrs old?" Daddy finally told him yesterday that his Mother never taught him anything because she died when he was a baby. I don't know what happened after that except that the guy swung to sock Daddy and Daddy was chasing him to hit him. Thank goodness one of the nurses or staff saw the whole thing and stepped in to stop it. They must have got on to the guy because today when I saw him, he told me that he saw a woman up the hall that looked like she had stomach trouble but they told him not to say anything to her because it was inappropriate. He hasn't been the same since he went to the hospital a few months and is on oxygen so he may have some dementia going on himself.
I laughed yesterday and told DS, BIL and DH that when we are kids the school calls the parents on the kids now we are going to get calls on our Daddy? It was really refreshing to see Daddy more settled and like himself today. I called DS to let her know he was fine today.

Trish DH thinks my foot pain is gout. I read that gout can cause pain, redness and swelling of the big toe but I never has that. My pain started on the top and side of my right foot. That went away then the pain went to the right heel. I do exercises that help with the heel and it hasn't hurt for a week or so. Then this pain started in the arch and the bone on the inside of my left foot. It moves around to different locations. It would be nice if it stayed gone. I take the Tart Cherry Extract. Maybe it took this long to work. I hope the Tart Cherry doesn't interfere with my meds.
I think it is hard for people who live in these homes to get along day after day. I can't believe they actually got physical. What an eventful day.
Carol Sue I wonder if my toe pain last night was the sugar in the BBQ sauce because I haven't had any pain today. I'm just glad it is gone and hope it stays gone. I hope yours does too.
I have made it fasting tonight as I want to wait and eat breakfast in the morning around 11 am. I did get hungry and just drank a cup of BPC. It did help.

Trish, if you had toe pain it was probably gout. My pain has never been in my toe so far, but I've heard that gout pain can be in other places, just that the toe is where most people get it. I was supposed to ask for a test for uric acid last time I was at the doctor and I forgot. I could probably call him. My next appointment is for July. I will see how my pain is between now and then. Last night my feet were burning. I never had the burning before. I took Tylenol Arthritis and it went away. I'm fine so far today.
Did you ever try the Tart Cherry Extract? That is supposed to work for gout. I take it, but I don't know if what I have is gout.
Carol Sue I do have the Cherry Tart Extract and took one last night before I went to bed.
I am getting ready to read a new book titled Undoctored by Dr. William Davis, M.D. DH had me up until 3 am watching him on YouTube. He also wrote the book Wheat Belly years ago. I'm not sure why I didn't use the book unless the work Wheat through me off. He goes into more detail on what certain meds do to us. Any way, I just watched one on YouTube on Hacking Diabetes. He tells you how and when to check your bs. He says check it before you eat and then 30 to 40 minutes from the time you started eating. Your goal is to either eliminate or cut back on the carb that is causing the increase. Ideally your post reading should be the same as your pre meal reading. He says when you get it to do this then you will start losing weight. He says a T2 Diabetic should only eat 15 net carbs per meal.
He says patients either eliminate diabetes or lower it. He was a diabetic 25 yrs ago and now his A1c is 4.8 with FBG in 80s.
My FBG was 121 this morning. I had 2 eggs, slices bacon, about 1/4 c shredded sharp cheddar cheese and about 1/2 c kale greens and my coffee with Stevia and SF French Vanilla creamer. I also took all my vitamins before I saw this after I had done all this so my post check was approximately 30 minutes after starting time since I was exactly sure when I took my first bite. My post reading was up 20 pts to 141. So it has to be a carb so tomorrow I will leave out the kale and check it. If that isn't it, then I will leave out the SF creamer. I found it interesting that he says that "Diabetes is a choice". Oh yes, he said the doctors tell us to check bs 1 or 2 hrs after eating to control medicine not bs, however, if you are following his program you need to have a doctor who will work with you because when you start eating this way, he says your bs is going to drop very quickly and he doesn't want people getting into hypoglycemia too much because that is extremely dangerous and could be fatal. He says if your doctor won't work with you to do this then find one who will.
He keeps talking about some kind of wash program that he tells you in his book or website how to do. He also says that keto is good for short term but not long term because it can cause kidney stones, osteoporosis and eventually you will have the weight back and some of the problems you had before. He is concerned about people who stay in ketosis for years. He says you replace the grains with almond flour, coconut flour and golden flaxseed. I also talked of replacing the sugar with something but never said. I will read that in the book. I can't find my Wheat Belly book. I may have given it away. I decided to purchase the kindle version of Undoctored since it is a newer book. I've decided that if I want the actual book then I can buy it. If I can't find my Wheat Belly book and decide I need it too, I can get it on kindle too.
Hope everybody has a great day. I'm going to be reading.

Trish, I think a non diabetic could have the same reading 30 min after eating but not a type 2 diabetic. That's just my opinion. Type 2 are insulin resistant and do not get the first insulin response so it takes longer for their BS to come back down after they eat. There can't possibly be that many carbs in 1/2 c kale and I don't believe vegetables should be eliminated. I think a lot of people are going to hear him say that and feel they are a failure because they can't meet his criteria. He could be right. I don't really know. But it is just my first instinct to not believe him.
We spend the afternoon at the Vet. DH found a tick on our dog's head. That is how our last dog died, because DH took the tick out but did not get him treated at the vet. So we took him. We were lucky they took him without an appointment but I think they were not that busy, plus they asked if he had been there before, which he had. $250 later we are home with antibiotics, and cream to put on it. They had to shave the top of his head and dig the tick out. I think we have to take him back in 6 weeks to be checked for lyme disease. Pets can be very expensive. We could take him to the vet at the shelter. They are cheaper, but it's first come first served and you have to sit around and wait your turn. We were lucky our vet wasn't busy for a Saturday.
Carol Sue I think you are right about Type 2's might read that wrong too. I think maybe the goal is to have the bs do that when it is corrected. I'm not sure that could be in the beginning. My bs before main meal was 97 and the bs 30 minutes later was 125. I don't think that is bad really. I remember on CAD that Dr. Richard Heller said the bs goes up when you take your first bite during the Reward Meal and not to go over 60 minutes eating or you will get another bs surge. So I'm not quite sure about that. The only carbs that I had was my zucchini and salad veggies along with my Ranch Dressing. So I think up only 28 pts is good.
I still think his concern with eating keto long term could be a problem especially if you have a tendency toward osteoporosis. He seems to think replacing them with almond flour, coconut oil or Golden Flaxseed meal is a good idea. Any way, we always take the best of the books we read and apply it as needed to fit our own lifestyle.
My plan now is to fast until our main meal tomorrow afternoon. I think I would like to alternate days of 2MAD with OMAD. So tomorrow will be my OMAD.
Hey gang: I get home tomorrow night, looking forward to seeing DH. Have had a lovely time here. DD is great and doing well.
Trish: no matter what you learn from the other docs and you tube videos, remember what you have been doing is working, with the IF etc.
SO don't change that. There are lots of ways to do low carb. Most people doing low carb are getting plenty of calcium from dairy sources, there is no evidence low carb causes osteoporosis, or other problems for that matter. Or good evidence that other diets prevent it. (sadly, most of our dietary advice is NOT evidence based)
Working through the evidence is difficult, and even for those with a good research background. So in the meantime, do what works, And IF with lower carb ( you are not Keto or very low carb most of the time) is working for you, very well these days.
Also re gout: I think you have been eating a fair amount of fish, which sadly, is not good for gout. Foods with Purines are usually no-nos. Fish and seafood are among them. Since I think you don't drink, you don't have to cut out or cut down alcohol. I don't think you eat a lot of organ meats either. Hope its not gout. That would be a pain.
Hi Carol: hope things are going well for you too.
Looking forward to a weekly update from Pipsicle, and others should feel free to chime in.
Have a good weekend.
