I did great waiting to eat until we got home from seeing Daddy. I ended up with an 18 hr fast because we got home to eat by 4:30ish. Today was a CAD day. Not sure if I will eat a snack tonight or not. FBG at 4:30 was 98. I think I will try to make this a OMAD and fast until meal tomorrow and do a OMAD tomorrow as well. Bible Study should be tomorrow night as far as I know. We just have the one more class to get done.
DH and DS set up Daddy's pc and by the time we got home DS called me and said Daddy called and his pc isn't working. We aren't sure he remembers what he is doing. I know DH took the time to show how to do everything. DBIL will go tomorrow after work and see what is going on.

I think you are ok considering your FBG to be before your first meal of the day. Since my eating window is earlier in the day I am testing after a 16-18 he fast. It just happens to be around 8 or 9 am. Online it says FBG should be after an 8 hour fast. Mine would not be as good with only 8 hrs. I guess they are saying it should only take 8 hours for it to come down to normal. I have to stop eating at 4-5 to get a good fasting number in the morning. My blood sugar averages around 80 in the middle of the night. Much lower and I would be having a hypo. So this is the best I can do.

I am doing a 4 to 5 eating window of one meal and a snack. I seem to need to do that right now and I will listen to my body continue to do it. Dr. Berg originally said to do 2 meals a day and of course Dr. Fung says not to lose weight doing OMAD because you will stall and have a difficult time losing more. I know OMAD would help me to lose weight faster, but evidently I don't need to do it for some reason. I fast each day until at least 3 pm so for now I may just start checking FBG before I eat my first meal of the day. I'm not sure I need to do 2 FBG checks a day although I do like to see how it is working that time of day. Any way I have my plan and will now start exercising again. I read info to day from Dr. Berg's book on exercising to burn fat and I now understand why it is important exercise 10 minutes 3 times a day. I did a few minutes this morning but had to stop because DH got up and wanted to leave in 15 minutes to take Daddy's pc to him. Tomorrow I will do better with that.

My exercise right now is going to be for muscle strength in my legs and arms. I am getting concerned by my rapid loss of mobility lately. I have noticed it getting worse and I don't want that to happen. I think I can make a difference if I set my mind to it.
I have found that I can only use my tablet for shorter posts. If I try to post longer posts, they either get lost, or won't go through. Only the PC for longer posts.
I did a different test last night. I ate some high fiber cereal at bedtime, comparable to the bedtime snacks I used to eat. When I woke up around 3am my blood sugar was 128. This is when it is usually under 100. When I got up it was 156. So a longer fasting period is necessary for me to get a good fasting reading.
I have been reading a lot this morning about testing and fasting blood sugar. Blood sugar is supposed to return to normal within 3 hours of the start of your meal for a non diabetic person. Mine is not usually back to normal by bedtime, which it 5-6 hours after my meal, not until the middle of the night. I think a lot depends on what I eat for dinner and the amount of food. I don't really know how high I spike in 2 hours after a meal, so I am going to start testing to find out, then work toward getting my high to be lower than 180. This might help my blood sugar come back to normal quicker. I probably won't worry about breakfast because it's usually eggs and they don't spike my blood sugar much. It's dinner, which can include carbs and can be a larger meal.
What I read said that type 2 diabetics seem to miss the first insulin response and therefor their blood sugar goes higher after meals. I want to read more about first insulin response. I think this was brought up in the CAD/CALP book and was part of the reason for only eating carbs at one meal per day. I think my eating style is close to CADlike in that I usually only eat carbs at dinner, and try to keep it to a small portion.

Trish: doing OMAD sometimes is fine, not harmful, maybe helpful for weight loss, its basically a 22 hr fast usually. Its doing it all the time that its a problem. For many of us, its the stretch that allows us to fast for 36 hr next. So no worries. I think you have been mixing it up well.
Pipsicle, getting out and walking is always good. That alone will help with insulin resistance, and don't worry about the scale.
I did my fast from Saturday supper to Monday lunch time, but of course that would have been breakfast at home, so a 36 hr fast, about. I slept better on the plane than I have for years, it was not fully booked, and I had my little group of 3 seats to myself, so the armrests came up and I got to lay down. I had a brief nap after lunch, sister is just waking up now. I did decide to bring my laptop for many reasons, keeping in touch with work being one.
Will work to stay LCHF, may be difficult here. But no major problems
Carol: how is the pain, so interesting that carbs and sugar make it worse. And in the short term, not like me needing to be off gluten for weeks before it got better.
Chat later everyone
fatmad So glad you were able to get sleep on the flight. Thanks for the info on the 22 hr fast. I am going to go for the 22 or 23 on days I do OMAD. I read on one of Dr. Fung's FB groups not sure which one since he shares with Dr. DiNicolantanio now. Any way someone was complaining they weren't seeing much weight loss results for the length of time she has been on plan. Someone suggested alternating 2 days on 2MAD and the 1 OMAD. She also said that if the person was still using any grains that it could also keep her from losing. I'm not sure about the grains being the problem if you counted the carbs to keep them around 20 grams as Dr. Berg suggests. However, I will be considering both suggestions given her.
Carol Sue I know I miss my low FBG in the mornings mainly because I'm trying to work in an 8 or 9 hour sleep each night now. I went to bed at 12ish last night and didn't get up until 9 am. I think taking the magnesium at night is really helping me with my sleep at night. I do pee a lot some nights although I do not take any fluid pills any more. In fact, I don't take any meds any more. Plus I notice that I don't have any leg cramps any more.
I have noticed over the years that I have some numbness in my feet and lower legs although not severe and it is another reason I try to keep exercising them. The bike truly helps me with that. However, last night reading on the Dr. Fung FB, I noticed a woman said that her doctor tried to get her to take a statin and she refused to take it even after he talked her into taking a different one. She said that her lower legs and feet have had numbness and her hands tingle since she took it and even after 2 weeks off of it that it hasn't gone away. I will not ever use the statins again even DH has quit taking it. We both have decided to refuse it. A doctor who was shared on the Longevity group where I think I read this said that if your doctor tried to make you take a statin to fire him. He says that as we age that we need the cholesterol in our bodies and that the elderly live longer when it is higher.
DH learned that taking L-arginine and L-Citruline will open up the arteries and help the heart and circulation so we are taking that. We haven't taken it long enough to see too much help, but I honestly believe the numbness is beginning to improve but it is too soon to tell for sure. In fact, we have only changed a lot of things within the past 3 weeks and some of these supplements have only been taken for a week or 2 at the most.
I'm going to start taking a short nap everyday as it is supposed to be as important as the exercise according to Dr. Berg. A quick 15 or 20 minute should suffice.
I looked back on how I was doing on this day one year ago. I my FBG a year ago never was much less than 130s and often went up to 180s. I couldn't get my weight much less than 217 sometimes 216. Now my high in my first morning FBG runs maybe as high as 130s but when I actually break my fast in the afternoon yesterday was 98 never much more than 110. FBG was 211 this morning after CADlike CB Reward Meal and my protein only for a snack later. So I can see a real improvement. Small but it is there.
Not much to report from this way today. I did a 6 hr window yesterday because of my Bible study class last night started 30 minutes later and so it went a little later. However it was the last class for baby sister and me because we finished the book. Niece is going to have it with the other 2 girls so they can finish it too. I think that is nice of her.
DH wanted eggs when I got home but I was just too tired to cook so we ate snack of pepperoni cheese chips and beef jerky we bought from Sam's so I could take my ACV cocktail. I need a healthier snack so I think I just plan to start cooking eggs and have what I call a finger salad which consists of raw veggies like celery, radishes and cukes. That will be healthier.
I won't be taking the cranberry juice any more. I went on YouTube and listened to Dr. Berg's video on ACV and lemons benefits. He made the cocktail at the end of the video and in this one he said that if you have a slow metabolism that you probably should not use the cranberry juice. because it can slow down your weight loss. So as of today I will continue the 3 ACV/lemon mixture only each day. I also watched one on Reversing Fatty Liver and he said that meds like Lipitor damages the liver. So another reason not to take a statin. He also mentioned Tylenol that damages liver. I don't have to take those any more since I started taking the magnesium at night. He does stress sleeping 7 to 9 hrs at night and taking a nap but I have a hard time staying in bed for very long. I seem to be getting back to wanting to get up when I wake up regardless of whether I get 7 or 8 hrs sleep. I think if I took a nap that I wouldn't be able to sleep as long as I do when I go to bed. However, I will try to get 8 hrs if I can because it seems to be key to weight loss.
Carol Sue I hope you are doing okay. I wonder about you when I don't see you on here at least once a day.
I understand what you said about the exercise. I finally did about 10 minutes on my recumbent bike yesterday and used the weights while doing it. Today I did the 10 minutes on the bike and then did about 10 minutes of weights plus some other exercises. I did 100 steps in place and lunges while holding the weights. I also did some squats holding on to the back of the bike and some push up moves but I do it at the wall. There is no way I could get down on the floor to do them. I'm hoping these exercises will help reverse the neuropia type damage done to the lower part of my legs and feet from taking the statins I took. I don't really know if that can be reversed, but I hope I can improve it and stop it from getting worse.
I am not taking any meds now and my when I checked my bp this morning it 109/62. Weight seems to be stuck at 211.4 but maybe getting to 2 meals a day with a 18 to 10 hr fast without the cranberry juice in my ACV mix the weight will start coming down. I stopped the Splenda and switched to Stevia because the Splenda could cause hypothyroid which would keep me from losing weight. So I hope I've got things working in my favor now. Will check FBG when I break my fast later. It was 99 yesterday so that is great.
fatmad I know you are having a ball with your sister and DD and getting lots of walking in too.

Trish I think I post every day except when I am in the hospital. I posted yesterday but it was at 5 am so it seems like I wasn't here all day. Its nice that you were concerned, though. I know sometimes I post more than once a day. I've been doing a lot of reading.
Good for you on not taking any meds!
Blood sugar was 100 this morning at 8 am. I just check when I get up. If I get up early I also check later to be sure it's after the DP.
I finally got an appt with the cardiologist for May 2. It should have been sooner after my hospitalization. I have a list of things I want to discuss plus I want to ask him if there is a way to avoid this problem getting appointments.
I got a new bottle of Braggs and want to start taking it in water again but will research the best timing for me. I was taking it at bedtime before but it didn't seem to be doing much. I want the alkelining effect.
This morning I was reading a book about IF. The man referred to his second meal as the small meal rather than a snack. I liked that reference rather than a snack because many people think of a snack as unplanned or unhealthy foods . I know you are eating healthy food and this is just a smaller meal than others. I would like to make my dinner just a smaller meal.
DH is keeping me running everywhere. I am going to have to start staying up later to get the things done that I want to do. LOL

Carol Sue Glad to see you are okay. I'm glad you got an appointment with your cardiologist. I saw a man on one of the FB Keto groups fussing about how long it takes to get an appointment and then how long you have to sit in the waiting room to see the doctor. I have to admit that while it may take a while to get an appointment that so far with this system we are with that we don't have very long waits. However, when I think about it, they are good at getting us in the room and getting our vitals and work up done and then we have to sit and wait. DH gets antsy but I tell him that the doctor takes time to listen to me and I appreciate that. Of course, I noticed on my last bill, that he seems to be getting paid by the minute too so I guess that is why he takes the time. LOL
Your blood sugar is doing very well. I know you use the G as needed but it is great improvement none the less. I am getting DP readings when I first get up and check. It was 141 this morning, but usually by the time I break my fast to eat it has been 99 or one time 98. So I am doing pretty good and should only improve as time goes on. I want to go YouTube and see if I can learn anything else about reversing neuropathy. (Funny I couldn't spell that on the earlier post) I want to know if it can be reversed after taking statins. I see an advertisement on reversing it with a supplement but those are usually expensive and I don't know what is in it.
I have spending time reading and watching YouTube doctors so I understand about the reading. I have always believed that we have to take control of our health and this is the only way I know to do it. I take my kindle and read to DH from Dr. Berg's book. I was having a problem getting back to what I wanted to read the other day when we left Daddy's and DH told me to buy the book. I think I will because it will be so much easier to look up what I want to know than trying to find it on the kindle. I think that will be a good idea. Kindle books are so much cheaper and sometimes free reading, but when I want to use it for a reference book then I need to purchase the actual books to keep on hand for easier research.
Be sure to share what you learn about testing bs. We watch a man and a couple on YouTube who test different foods so we don't have to. However, I'm not sure that is all that great since I have learned that just because something raises someone else bg doesn't mean it raises mine and vice versa. Plus there are so many other variables involved.
Just watched Dr. Berg's YouTube video on how to do Intermittent Fasting. He says gradually work up to a 23 hr fast especially a diabetic. He says start with a 12 hr fast and do it until your body is comfortable with that. Then you can go to 16 or 18 and stay there until your body adjusts to that and then go to a 20 hr fast which a lot of people do that with 2 meals within 4 hr eating window. There are some who go to 23 hr fasts and OMAD, but you don't necessarily have to do that. He only recommends longer fasts if you really know what you are doing example with nutrition and electrolytes. After hearing this, I have decided that for now I'm going to do my original 19:5 IF ratio,
Carol Sue I like the idea of calling my second meal a small meal instead of a snack. I think I will adopt that name too.

Trish I used to have a long wait in the doctors office when he was in private practice but not now since he is in the hospital system. That is one thing they do better and he never seems to hurry me. I am looking forward to this visit.
I know exactly what you mean about a kindle book vs a hand held book. Its very hard to find a specific item in a kindle book. I have several books about IF on my kindle. They were free and most are short but I get different pointers from each of them and find them interesting. I feel no draw to do longer fasts than 20-24 hours right now but maybe someday. No eating after 4 is working very well for me since I go to bed early. Its when I feel best.
Carol Sue I agree that there is a lot of good info in all the kindle books I got and I find that I take something from each one although I don't follow everything one book says. However, I do get some really good info to help me tweak and make adjustments where need to create my own healthy plan so that I can live with how I need to eat. Some things are more of personal choices.
Just a check in today. 1st FBG check was 130 so that is coming back down although never really low until I break my fast around 3ish. I fixed boiled eggs for DH and me for our small meal last night. I had a finger salad with mine. I looked on line to see how to cook the soft boiled but we like the yolk runny so will have to adjust it back down to 3 minutes. Weight was up to 214.4 this morning but I realized that I had a BPC coffee with small meal and that must have been too much for me so won't do that again. I had stopped the 2 BPC a day and was just wanting it last night. I just don't think really high fat is right for me.
Watched another YouTube video of Dr. Berg's on how to reverse diabetic damage. I wont to go online and look it up and watch again. He tells of a certain B1 but has to be this particular kind taken with Alpha Lipoic Acid and how to take them to speed up the healing. I want to order those and start taking it to heal my liver and other organs. He really pushes the veggies more than the high protein although he says you have to have a certain amount of it and absolutely no carbs from grains or sugar. So I'm going to go that direction.
It made me remember when I lost weight when I first married DH and moved to FL. We ate out a lot and took trips with his kids. I always had a salad... usually chef salad when we ate out. I never ate more than 2 meals and always stopped eating by 4 pm unless we went out to eat. I really would like to get back to our 3 or 4 pm meal being my last meal of the day, but now that DH is trying to eat this way, I feel I need to help him and it is easier to cook and eat with him. I don't want to cook for me in the morning and then cook again later in the evening with him. Plus it does give me time to sleep in each morning when I can and saves me some time in the morning.
Dr. Berg says 7 cups of veggies. So I've decided to start making myself a big salad 2x a day and add cheese and protein to make them more of chef type salads and get myself a really good brand of EVOO and start eating them each day especially while trying to go more Keto and I'm giving up my crackers unless I make them with Almond flour. I'm just going to step out and do it. It is that important to me.
fatmad Thought of you today and this being half way through your trip. I know it must feel like it is going too fast, but I know you are really enjoying the fellowship with your DS and DD.

Trish, I'm glad Dr Berg emphasizes vegetables. This morning I was watching a program on PBS about Keto by Dr Axe. He emphasized vegetables, too. I was surprised because most people I see who do Keto stay away from vegetables because of the carbs. Either that or they just don't like vegetables and use the carbs as a reason not to eat them. I don't believe anyone got fat or unhealthy from eating vegetables. Dr Axe promotes a lot of supplements and I am not interested in that since I take so many meds.
I have 5 weeks until my Dr appointment. I would like to get my weight back down by the time I go. I am up 5 lbs right now from my lowest, but I am down 12 from my last appointment with him. I would like to get back to the way I was eating when DH was in the hospital but to do that I would have to eat breakfast later and then a small dinner. As long as I get my eggs I don't care how late I eat them. Two meals in 5 hours will be good. When I did that my weight was down, my pain was down and my incontinence was just about gone. I think that is all due to lower blood sugar. Pain wasn't too bad today. I have checked and checked and I cannot find a supplement to fight inflammation that can be taken with a blood thinner. Very frustrating.
I agree that the small meal later in the day might be holding you back but I don't know if you would be able to change that since you stay up later. I don't know about the BPC. We are all different, so it's hard to say what is effecting you.

I only got 4 hours of sleep the night before last. Yesterday I was falling asleep in my recliner so I went in to take a nap at 5:30 and didn't get up until 6:30 this morning. I wok up around midnight and went to the bathroom and changed into my nightgown. 11 1/2 hours of sleep! I feel very rested but have a lot of pain. Blood sugar is 101 so that's not causing the pain. DH said we aren't going to the casino today so we shall see. He usually changes his mind. He actually said yes getting tired of the long drive.
My stomach is growling but I don't actually feel hungry. For some reason I rarely feel hunger. I would like to wait it out and see how long it takes but if DH makes breakfast He will want me to eat. He will probably not get up until 9.
