I have 3 days to figure a goal weight. I don't usually have a goal because I'm afraid I won't reach it and feel like a failure. I don't have a good track record. Usually I just want to lose as much as I can without having too much hanging skin. But I'm thinking having a specific number in mind might work better for me. I really want to do this this year but don't have much faith in myself. Losing weight will hopefully allow me to drop some of my blood pressure meds and diabetes meds, especially if I include exercise in my effort.
I will probably be starting out around 180. It has taken 14 years to get from 217 to 180. Very very slow, but I have never had a regain of more than 5 lbs. But I really want to lose faster than that!! Right now I'm thinking around 150. That is not anywhere near my ideal weight but I feel its doable for me. 130 would be ideal but I don't think its practical for me.
I appreciate you ladies for setting such good examples and being supportive.

Carol, we are only failures if we quit trying! Please don't be so hard on yourself!
See y'all next year.

Happy New Year! Well, almost new year any way...
Sorry it's been 10 days without checking in, but I have nothing really to report weight loss wise. I was 161.6 today. Basically I will stay this weight unless I either start "actual exercise" or reduce my calories. I think any weight will sooo slow, but that is really OK since I am happy at this size and every little bit less will just be even better. To set a goal weight for this year I had to think about it, but think I will say 155. Basically at 164 I was the very top of the BMI chart for my height for "healthy weight." Again I feel fine at this size, but of course see room for improvement..so 155 it is!
Wannabehealthy It is never too late to lose weight! My mom had lost weight the same time I did. She has gone from a 1x to a medium. She has kept it off and is 78 years old! I wish both of us did this years ago, but better late than never! It's good you've lost what you have, slow or not. It sounds like you have some good reasons with your BP meds and diabetes. Diabetes is nothing to play around with. It's scary how it can effect our whole body!
KStrong I saw your comment on Buc-ees and had to laugh! I haven't been there since there isn't one by me in Virginia, but have seen several family members post about it or talk about it recently in their travels. I would like to see it some day as much as I've seen posted about it...I swear you'd think it was a tourist attraction more than a huge gas station with lots of bathrooms and food, etc!
Thanks for keeping our thread going, it does help me get my thoughts out and keeps me focused on my weight loss-maintenance goals.

L&Ls Mom - The Bucees hype and the one near me in TX was not overrated. I just ran in there for one thing but spent an hour and only saw maybe 5 percent.

target: 12st 7lb / 175lb (BMI 25.0)

I lost ~45lb last year between Feb & Sept, & then virtually nothing Oct-Dec. a little more application & a little less food required this year.

Happy New Year! 180.2 this morning.
I decided to set my goal for 2023 at 150 lbs. That is 2.5 lbs per month. Its reasonable, doable and way more than I've ever lost in any other year. I will go from obese to overweight. To reach normal I have to go below 136 lbs. Honestly, I would love to weigh 135. That's what I weighed until I got married but it was my fighting weight. It was a constant struggle to maintain. If I reach 150 I can decide to adjust my goal and continue on.
I plan on focusing on the food that sneaks in. "I did good today, this cookie won't hurt." "I'm feeling full, but this is so good I'll finish it." I know what and how much to eat.
L&Lsmom, I can understand how you feel about coming here when you are pretty much at goal weight but we can help you maintain and you can inspire us.
Kstrong, you will inspire me to exercise. In my youth exercise was a priority. I joined exercise groups with friends, and spent lots of nights in dance clubs on the dance floor for hours. Lots of cardio. It has dwindled to nothing, but I think once I get back to it I will get hooked again.
Lacerta, don't disappear now!!

Welcome MrBadger!! It's great that you've lost 45 pounds and maintained that weight loss! I feel like once we have been successful at weight loss it gives us confidence to keep on going. You have the tools to do it again now!
KStrong Wow, Buc-ees sounds so big! I will have to go the next time we go to SC for sure!
Wannabehealthy I like what you wrote about focusing on food that sneaks in...my daughter will have me try different things she brings in. One bite of this or that sometimes leads to a handful. Also eating when you start feeling satisfied is something I have been working on as well too. I know you can get to 150, you have the power to do this! Honestly even getting close to that will be thrilling. If in December you were 160, 20 pounds would still be worth celebrating.
I am still bouncing up and down the same pound, pound and half. One day it can be 161.6, the next day 163 for really no reason and then back down to 162. I still watch the calories and never let it go over 2000. On most days I get activity and walking etc..I still like the idea of 155 though so I will have to lower the calories a bit and do the exercise videos online again.

I hope everyone is having a good first week of 2023!
L&L's Mom - I know you have to be so proud that you survived the holidays with no real gains! I don't know how you do it!!! Great job on the activity!

Week 1 under my belt. I was down by little bits each day and was down to 178.4. Then today I bounced up to 179.4, so I'm down 1 lb for week one! If I can do that every week I'll be below goal at year end.
Good for you for getting an inch off your waist Kstrong. I haven't measured in ages. Surgery destroyed my ab muscles so its elastic waists for me!
L&Lsmom, I would be happy to maintain where you are but more loss would be a plus.
Welcome Mr Badger! Keep up the good work.

Hi everyone , happy Monday!
Not to be a broken record, but nothing to report really. Same old up and down the same pound or so. Today officially I was 162.4...a few days ago it was 164 and then 163.4 and now two days of 162.4. I know it's the basic maintaining really. I still think I want to try for 155.
KStrong I am sorry about your eye still giving you issues. And congrats for the inch lost on your waist! When you mentioned doing well over the holidays it really wasn't much of an issue really. My family used to be much better about the larger (extended family) getting together when I was younger. Over time it sort of slowed down and then stopped. Before COVID it was just maybe Thanksgiving for ONE side of my family we'd get together, but stopped doing a Christmas gathering. (The other side stopped doing Christmas a long time ago and didn't do Thanksgiving), Now the one side that DID get together doesn't even do Thanksgiving as a large group. I see my immediate family only now for Christmas and Thanksgiving so there isn't that much temptation. I guess what I am trying to say...the extended family isn't having lots of parties so that's not an issues. Also I work at home, so no office parties or food to tempt you from others. It's sort of sad that we only literally see extended family (on both sides of my family) at funerals and weddings, baby showers, stuff like that. I truly wonder if other families are like this too??
I still want to see Buc-ess. My step daughter and her family live in SC so the next time we head down I know we will make the pit stop.
Wannabehealthy Congrats on your pound!
I am definitely happy to maintain but in the back of my mind I will still strive for 155. Honestly just maintaining is new territory for me. I have lost 50 pounds (a few times) over the years. I'd lose it fast and gain it back just about as fast as it was lost. Losing slowly and not regaining is a very new thing for me.
Where are you MrBadger ?? Hope all is well!

Carol - Great job on losing the first pound of 2023!
L&Ls Mom - At your current stage, no news is good news for sure! If you can maintain at around 2000 or less then that is excellent! I assume you are burning that or more or it could be that you were so smart with your choices and your body along the way.

L&Lsmom, I am the last living member of my family. I have nieces and nephews I never see. We exchange Christmas cards. I have a couple cousins I never had contact with who now want to get together but I don't even know them. They chose to stay away when we were younger. After my MIL passed away I started having family holidays to keep the family together but never heard from them from one holiday to the next. I stopped during the pandemic and chose never to start again. Noe my step daughter bought a bigger house so she started doing the holidays and I help her.
I gained back my one pound so I'm starting over. sigh
