  • L&L's Mom - I hope all went well! Congrats on being the same weight! That is much better than gaining!!! Yep, we are total twinsies, June babies (well technically, I am a Gemini but you may not be so I just mean our similarities).

    Have a great week!
  • New to the forum
    Hi all,

I’m new here. I was looking for a place to give and get support during my journey and I landed here. I’m glad to see it’s so active in here. I won’t be posting numbers because they make me crazy. Anyway, I started a liquid diet in anticipation of dental surgery and my plan is to just do that and focus on weightlifting with some walking or bike riding. I’m hoping to make a decent change before I go back to school in August (older adult in college). And then in line with this particular thread made some really significant progress by the end of 23.

  • EyezOnThePrize79!!! We are glad to have you join us! If posting the numbers makes you crazy, that's OK, you don't have to. Good luck with your dental surgery and the liquid diet. I feel posting here keeps me focused and it's sort of like therapy for me to get my thoughts out and share my plans and ups and downs along the way. No matter how you lose weight, it seems those who track their calories have the most success.

KStrong The rehearsals and recitals went great, this was her 15th year of dance and she is only 18! She is one busy girl. Yep, I am a Gemini too, June 16th! I am sorry you are dealing with the health and eye issues, hang in there!

As far as the weight is going it's crazy...Monday I was 153 and then it's gone up since. Today I was 155.6. I thought it would be down today since I did a lot of yard work yesterday and the calories were only 1600. I guess the scale fairy will reward me soon. On a positive note I did get some praise at the dance recital. There are those who don't see me often and the reactions are amazing. One lady said I've lost so much weight "but you weren't big before though." I understand they feel like they might be insulting me while trying to give a compliment at the same time.
  • Hi everyone. I'm trying to get back here but I'm dragging my feet. I'm still hanging around 180. I've quit the scale, the one that, records to the app. Last time was in April. Occasionally I get on my balance beam scale. I have it set at 180. When I get on it either goes up indicating a gain or down indicating a loss. The numbers and tick marks are too small for my old eyes to see. Today it balanced right in the middle, meaning I'm right at 180. If I behave I might go back into the 170s and start weighing daily again.

I'm not feeling well today. Could be from a late night and little sleep. I have heart issues and diabetes and I feel wonky when things aren't just right.

I see some good results here from others. Kstrong our drivers licence never shows weight. Our pictures are color but I don't worry much about the picture. I rarely show it to anyone. For some reason my husband renewed his without a new picture. They just used the same picture. But I had to get a new picture. Maybe they think women change more than men.

I see we have a new poster. Hi Melissa!!
  • Hi y'all!

Hi Carol - Good to see you! I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I like the weight up or down idea instead of sweating the tiny fluxes.

    Welcome Melissa!
Congrats on going to college later in life. I did the same.

L&Ls Mom - Your daughter sounds like quite the dancer. I bet that really keeps her in shape! I knew you would do awesome and the month will soon be over. Have you thought about anything special related to food or clothes for your birthday? I think last year y'all did vegan ice cream or that may have been for another occasion.

    Have a great week!
  • Hi everybody!
Well the scale fairy never came. I have been keeping the calories under control and still it keeps ticking up. Now it's been 156.2 for a few days. I am not letting it get me down. I know eventually the scale will show some love! I still love seeing my waist in the mirror when trying on clothes so that sort of thing keeps me going.
Wannabehealthy I am sorry to hear you aren't feeling well! The good news is even if you haven't been trying to lose weight you are at least staying the same. Hang in there!
KStrong Wow, that does sound like a major storm!! Yes, Olivia is in good shape...she is 5'6 and size 4. Along with her dance classes and working, she lifts weights and does exercise videos, etc...It's a good thing because even though she is vegan she is more like a "junk food vegan"...she loves junk!! If she ever stopped exercising and dancing I know it will catch up with her. When you mentioned the ice cream place I had to ask her when did we go to The Yard Milkshake Bar. She told me it was November (her birthday), Do you get the name The Yard Milkshake Bar from the song "My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard." LOL Its a cute play on words calling it that.
I don't have any real plans for my birthday..This year my birthday is on a Friday, her HS graduation is Saturday and we are having her party on Sunday which is father's day. Kind of a two for one....my parents and my husband's parents both live near us so we can give them their gifts and celebrate her graduation at the same time. I guess I will get a few gifts myself. LOL
Oh with what you wrote about not writing down all your calories like regular people... that made me laugh! I know what you mean. I had dinner recently with coworkers and we were all talking diets. The one girl without a weight problem is a type 2 diabetic ironically. Nobody can believe someone who has always been a size medium and doesn't have to watch her weight would be a type 2 diabetic but she is! She said she has to count her carbs though. I guess everyone has something they have to deal with...
  • Morning all!

L&Ls Mom - All of our graduations are in May so I feel for you having so many special occasions close to your birthday. At least our birthdays are equal parts away from Christmas.
-As a person that has had similar weight battles, I know you may need to be reminded how great AND inspiring it is that you have kept those 150s in check for awhile now. I'm so thrilled for you and also a little jealous. Your body may be lucky enough to be at your happy weight so you may have to just look at those measurements instead of the stubborn scale for a minute... and having that waist without all the mushroom top deserves extra high praise! Looking and feeling good in our clothes is the best reward!

Have a great weekend! Happy Memorial day!
  • The scale fairy finally stopped by!! Yay!! Today I weighed 154.0, I'll take it! It's funny how even a few pounds we feel are undeserved can be demoralizing when the scale doesn't move. I am not at my recent lowest weight but will keep plugging along. I really do want to get to 150 by the end of the year. I also know when I get there I will want to get lower so I can say I am in the 140's.

KStrong Thank you so much for your pep talk! I can hardly believe this is me sometimes (keeping the 150's in check) like you said. Aww, don't be jealous, you've got this as our fearless leader who went from the 280's or so and didn't know for sure your starting weight was. (That amazes me since I am so OCD I would really want to know.) LOL Whatever your weight is now you know you have the tools you need to get your weight back down. It sounds like you are doing great with staying on plan and no alcohol.

When I said seeing my waist I meant now I have shirts that go in at the waist. It's nice to look like I have a waist! I am not pear shaped so it's not a tiny waist but it's much better than it was 12 inches ago!

I hope the others check in soon, checking in helps keep us on track!
  • I hope everyone is well!

L&Ls Mom - Yay for the nice scale fairy visit!
What you said about the scale being demoralizing is how I've felt for so long even when I was too strict.

    Have a great week!
  • Happy new month!

    We are worth it!
  • Its June, so I'd better bite the bullet and get back to losing. I have been 179 for a few. days now, trying so hard to move downward instead of bumping back up to 180. I'm not getting on my digital scale. In using my balance beam scale. I set it at 180 to start and left it there until the lever stayed down, indicating that I lost. Now I've moved it to 179 and it just continues to waver there. My eyes aren't too good so its hard for me to see the little tick marks. Today I overate so I won't go anywhere near any scale tomorrow, or until I have a good eating day or two and feel that I've lost. I keep telling myself that I've lost 38 lbs in total. Not near what you two have lost, but this is not a competition.

I go to the doctors on the 15 th and I'm hoping my A1c is down for my diabetes. My daily readings have been better.

Both of you are doing well. L&LSsmom, you are still losing! That's great. I remember when my weight went into the 150s and I felt so fat, but I would be thrilled to be there now. Never in my life did I think I would weigh this much. Last week I packed up 8 bags of clothes and donated them to Goodwill. So now if I gain weight I have nothing to wear except stretchy pants/leggings. Well, I'm still wearing last years summer clothes so I have capris, but no jeans. The jeans I'm wearing now are 14s and a couple 12s and they just fit. No wiggle room. I've never done this before so I hope I don't have to go to Goodwill and buy my jeans back! I still wear my tops big because of my belly.

Kstrong, what are you doing to whittle your waist and hips? I don't measure because my waist size is so depressing. My waist/belly is so screwed up from surgery. I feel that it will never get smaller. Its ridiculous and embarassing. Maybe I need to work on that instead of the number on the scale.

I have some clothes from when I was in the 120s. 2 pairs of jeans and a wrap around skirt. I look at that and can't believe I was ever that small. The wrap around skirt only goes half way around now! I don't know why I keep them. I will never fit in them again. Just memories.
  • Have a great weekend!

Carol - You didn't lose as much as we did because you didn't gain as much as we did. I think you are doing great keeping things in check!

There's a,reason for that. When I reached 217 I had to have open heart surgery. Seemed like a good time to start losing weight. I quickly lost 20 lbs, and from then on it seemed like I was losing 2 lbs a year! But as slow as it was, I never regained more than 5 lbs and I've kept it off.

I can't do floor exercises. I can't get down on the floor unless I fall, and can't get back up without a crane. I can do some in bed and will have to find some seated or standing core exercises. I have been researching losing visceral fat because that seems to be my issue. When I lose, it usually comes from my butt and legs, where I don't need to lose!

    Look what I found!

    Well, that didn't work!!

  • Hi All,

I stopped checking in when the end of the school year became very busy and I'm bummed to say I've gone in the opposite direction of my goal recently (weigh in 250.1 today). Checking in here and starting a DietBet challenge; one is losing 4% of my weight in four weeks (10 lbs), and the other is 10% over six months. I'm back on track with nutrition and have been tracking diligently since 5/24/23 and not eating takeaway. Got back into the hot yoga studio for the first time in far too long on Wednesday. My goal by the end of this month is 240.1, and my goal for the end of November is 225.1.
  • Hello weight loss warriors!
I haven't checked in for 6 days, but I have good news...the scale is moving down again. Today I was 152.6. (Actually it was lower yesterday but we had a trip to Whole Foods). Gotta keep things real on here!

RunningRedHead So glad to see you checking in! I'm glad you are back with tracking and not eating takeaway. I know eating out is normally a calorie minefield. You may even save quite a bit of money as well! Hang in there and you can reach your goals.

Wannabehealthy You are so right, that this is not a competition! For myself, I literally needed to lose over 100 pounds. Losing that much just got me to the highest weight of a "healthy" weight range. You have been through so much, open heart surgery? Wow! I hope your A1C numbers are great as well.

KStrong I am glad you are still going to be counting your calories even without using the scale all month. With the calories in a good range you know you shouldn't have any bad surprises from the scale when you do check your weight again. Just reading about your exercising is making me tired! I am very impressed with your dedication to exercise!
