Diva – you know you could subtract what you spent on your short setback and add the balance to the amount of money currently saved. I would. When I quit many years ago I had a number of setbacks and as someone else mentioned, I also still get urges. When that happens (usually about once every year or two) I bum one cigarette – I can never finish it, and it reminds me of why I quit.

Bobbi – ha, ha, cold is cold no matter where I live. Your husband probably knows how to dress for the weather.

Haven’t done well since Friday evening. We had our only grandchild, a six-year-old granddaughter, who spent Friday evening until last night with us. Yes, Bobbi and Casmsc, I am also a grandmother. My calorie intake for Friday and Saturday was about the same 1400 to 1500 calories each day but my weight went up .5 lbs. when I weighed in this morning.

Also, how does anyone who has the problem deal with hypoglycemia? Seems like the only way I can control it is not to consume any type of bread, cereal, high-sugar fruit or other carb that might start the insulin spike/blood sugar drop cycle. My breakfasts and lunches are mostly protein, vegetables and some fruits and nuts and are spaced over 3 to 4 small servings during the day. This may sound unhealthy, but I have so much more energy and remain alert when I have very few calories during the day, but I am so hungry by the time I get home from work.

I don’t want to turn this into a medical board, but thanks in advance for any suggestions for foods that I can throw into a lunch bag that will fill me up during the day and not contribute to my hypoglycemia or weight gain.

Welcome Cate!

Woodlily ... nobody is even going to disagree with you. Several small meals spaced out over your day is (almost) universally recommended for satifaction during weight loss. And that protein/carbs combo is perfect. If you eat something like that every 2-3 hours, your blood sugar should not drop. The Body for Life food plan demonstrates this very well.

Hello everyone,

I have lurked around your posts for a while, and am thinking I would like to join you guys. I have been trying to count calories on my own for a while with some sucess I just have a hard time getting myself to write everything down. I have a friend who is doing a research study and taking a diet pill and using calorie king. So I decided I would look up my stuff in calorie king and try to track calorie with no diet pill. So I am hoping if I join up with you guys I will have motivation to stay on track.

My calories today were around 1100 I think is what FitDay said. Kinda just sat around and watched the race. Still thinking about what I want my next goal to be.....

hello all!
another newbie here (to posting, not to reading/lurking!)
first of all, you are all so inspirational, it makes me a little more peaceful each day just to read of your accomplishments, and I feel that maybe someday I too can be like you!

A little background on myself: I am an overweight (not a LOT, but it feels like it) student in grad school. In high school/college I was a very competitive runner with a typical runners build...115 lbs and all lean muscle. After college, I began to deal with daily personal/professional struggles by eating, and before I knew it I was very much a binge eater. Fast forward a few years, and I am nearly 50 lbs heavier; of course I have been trying to lose the weight since i started gaining, but just could never find the motivation for more than a few weeks. It has gotten more difficult since I was diagnosed with a herniated disk in my back a few months ago, which has reduced my exercise to basically zero (I used to exercise 6 days a week). Now I am even more frustrated, as I am completely an 'all or nothing' person, so my mind tells me 'you can't exercise, so why even try to eat healthy, since you can't do the necessary exercise/eating combo that most people would agree is necessary for weight loss.' I have finally realized that I can't live like this, as my back is going to be a barrier to my exercise indefinately.

Sorry, that was way more info than needed! I have always been a calorie counter at heart, though I have tried other forms of dieting (obviously with little success!). I am finally starting to grasp the 'lifestyle change' instead of 'diet', so I am hoping that being part of this community will help in my lifestyle change that is starting now!

by the way, since my main obstacle is: I do well for about a week and then give up and eat waaaay too much for days on end, my goal for now is to just go 2 weeks straight with 1800 or less calories per day. (i'm amazed that a lot of you eat almost half that!). slow and steady, right?

thanks in advance for letting me be a part of the special thing you have going on here.

Good morning everyone.

I hope some of you are off today due to President's Day. I've got all the kids, haha can I still call them that at 19, 17 and 15? home with me today. We'll see who actually sticks around. Had a great dinner last night with my folks and sister last night. I served them a completely healthy and delicious meal last night. I hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving, over 40 lbs ago. My mom started crying when she saw me. Dad said I'm 1/2 of myself and look 20 years younger and sis said I look like I have maybe another 20 or 30 lbs to go til I'm done. Wrong. It was a nice evening. Today is my weigh-in day, I'm down 4 1/2 lbs to 189.

Sunday's calories - about 1350

Welcome to all the new folks. GREAT TO HAVE YOU HERE!!!!! Looking forward to getting to know you. Have a great Presiden't day ladies.

Wow, Robin!!! Only 2 more pounds til you've lost 100 pounds!!! WTG

Welcome to all you newbies!!!

Diva, the newspaper said today that the guy who won the half marathon came in at 1 hour 7 minutes (I forget the seconds). He is a local guy--he's the track trainer for one of the high schools. It didn't mention anything about being a record, though. I suppose I could research it. But boy did he run! He passed us just at his 13 mile mark and I couldn't believe he was going so fast! It was another 5 minutes until #2 arrived and then #3 was another 5 behind that (#3 was the first woman).

I'm kindof bummed today, the scale is up 2 pounds. I don't know what is going on as I've been on plan all weekend (which is unusual). I'll be tweaking my meal plan a bit today after I get my chores done. No work today!!! But I think I'll do a little shopping this afternoon. Have a great day everyone!

I've often wondered if, when I get up in the morning, I'm puffy or dehydrated. Yesterday, I got called in to work and arrived at the good scale with only a couple of mouthfuls of coffee in me. I thought I do a little experiment. I ate a replacement bar and had some fluids and went about my business. I lost .4 lbs by midmorning.

Apparently when I first get up in the morning, I've got a bit of fluid on board. An interesting but impractical bit of info It's still most practical and accurate to weigh with consistency ... same time, same garb etc. Er ... maybe I should look into why I have fluid on board first thing in the morning.

Good Morning!
Sunday's Calories... 1,101
Fat...23%
Fiber...51 grams
Protein...27%
I'm not posting my menu anymore, I signed up for the Free Fitday just to get the fitday on my posts. I will be using both the free and the paid for Fitday. If it gets to be a pain in the a$$, I'll quit the free one. The paid is so much easier!

Susan...Now you'll be able to snoop on my fitday like I do yours! You have lost so much weight, it's fun to see what you eat to keep it off.

Diva... I agree with WoodLily, you should include your past cigarettes not smoked, your savings and life saved. You're too hard on yourself. Add it all on, pronto!
Back in the 'olden days', we never learned that quote.
Quote:
Just remember... i before e except after c.
Doubting Thomas here had to look up in the dictionary to see if there were any words that started out cie, and none could be found. Go Figure!

Allison... Yeah! Congrats on reaching 140 pounds, I can't wait to hit 140. My weigh loss has really slowed down, I averaged two pounds a week for many weeks. Now it's 1/2 to 1 pound a week. How about you?

Mary... Congratulations on meeting your Valentine's challenge. I see lots of new challenges popping up all over, I haven't committed to any yet. I'm in the "Biggest Losers" challenge and that ends March 24th, I'll probably not take anymore on unless I find one that has TOTALLY COMMITTED PEOPLE on it. That sounded kind of snotty, I mean people that commit and stay to the end, whether they lose or not.

Robin...
I served them a completely healthy and delicious meal last night.
O.K. Fess up, what did you serve? Congratulations on the huge weight loss.
Rusty... Did you ever figure out how to post a picture of your Doberman, I'd love to see her/him?

Becky... Great calories for the 3 days! I have a cousin named Becky that lives in Alabama, wouldn't it be a hoot if you were my relative
to Cate, Haylo and Chloe! Nice to have more input on this thread.
Hi to anyone I missed.

Bobbi- I understand what you are saying about the challenges. That is why I don't want to really join one on here in case towards the end there is no one left.
