Well I am back from school. DS is 6 and in 1st grade and he has ADHD. So needless to say he's been having a tough year. His old school last year threw out his IEP (a plan for kids who have learning disabilities or need extra help) and told me he was fine, but now it's all blowing up and my poor son is struggling. So what I thought was a parent/teacher/principal conference was actually an ALL staff conference about my son. The school psychologist, behavior specialist, speech therapist, assistant principal, and a ton of other personnel were there. I think I walked into a room of 10 or so. A little intimidating. But luckily I am well versed in developmental psychology and child development (thanks to a college course and my son's issues) so I was able to sit there as an equal and help them understand my son a lot better. The end result was a lot more help for my son and a lot of sharing of past school experiences and what will and won't work for him. It looks like he might qualify for some more services there as well as soon as his doctor send them over his findings. So it was a good meeting but boy did I feel like the kid sent to the office when I first got there. I must have turned a dark shade of red LOL.

Today is my busy day so I am off to get lunches packed for me and DS#2 and head off to work. Then it's kids' classes then a Harvest Party at the Y with food, games and who knows what else. Going to bring myself a snack so I don't eat any junk!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everyone. The week is going good for me so far. Just a run through as I'm busy today getting ready for a cooking demo tonight that I'm doing. Hope everyone is doing well. Gone to color my hair before I leave this afternoon.

Hey everyone...
Just a quick note to say hi! I hope everyone is having a great week. Tomorrow is Friday and Halloween! Does anyone have any fun plans? Is anyone dressing up??

Eny--New hair color is exciting! Got a pic to share?

Mandey--That's awesome that hubby will be home to take the little ones to trick-or-treat!

Mindy--I checked out etsy.com...OMG! That is my new fave site! I already have a list of links to send out for Christmas gifts!

HI! to everyone else!

TTYL...
~Misty

I hate keeping a food journal so this way, I can keep track without writing anything and worrying about losing the paper/notebook. No way will I lose my camera! Plus, it's helping me to stop eating at work. I mean, I can't just whip out a camera in the middle of the hallway and take pictures of food! People will think I'm a loon (more than they already do)! :dizzy:

I think that's an awesome idea. I wish my digital worked I'd do that too!

I can't seem to get a hold of the 2nd book of Twilight - New Moon. The store told me the sell them faster than they bring them in. Hmph.
I caught a rotten cold and cough and I'm so down because my friend died suddenly (at 33 years old) and things are just crazy here. Trying very hard to stay OP.
It's been pouring here, and being sick and melancholy - no exerciZe. :(
Hope things will pick up soon.
There are so many choices for exercize DVD's I don't even know where to start. I guess I'd like to know which workout is the shortest and most effective. Any input??

 Miriam I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. I hope your cold and cough go away. And I was at Borders last saturday and saw the Twilight collection packaged, 4 books, right? all hardbacks for $84.

Well I did it. I joined Weight Watchers last night. Going to give the flex plan a try to see if I can get a grip on things. Their scale weighed me higher than my home scale but then again I had all my clothes on where at home I'm nekkid when I weigh. I'm going to continue using my home weights for this challenge since that's the scale I started with. Anyway, I am just so excited to see if this makes a difference in my attitude even though I'm still in the "honeymoon period", I'm excited. Just wanted to share. I'll be back later.

:carrot: good for you !! I do WW too, but at home. I was going to rejoin, but again, I decided against it at the last minute, literally sitting out in the parking lot. I had the extra cash but I need other things and I have you guys here and I do journal so I didn't. I'm such a Libra.

I don't know if that has to do with TOM being out of sorts or if it is the added stress. There is no way I am going to lose my goal by the end of the challenge, infact I am over my starting weight for this challenge. So discouraging but as much as I think I should just quit, I don't think that will solve anything. So I am sticking around...I hope that is okay with you all?

Oh I did use a FREEBIE this week.

If you left we'd hunt you down! :club: ;) Don't worry about having an off week, we all have them. I've had 2 off weeks, I took both my freebies. So now I gotta get it in gear and just do what needs to be done and you'll do the same. :) That's why we're here for each other, to help get us through these rough patches.

Well I'm off for my evening walk with my bella girl. I did my watp and strength training this morning. :carrot: I hope everyone has a wonderful evening. :grouphug:

Hey everyone! Sorrry I haven't been on much today - work was CRAZY!

Shari - AWESOME idea for your food journal! I think if I had to See what I ate, it might curb the amount that I'm eating!

retired one - what cooking demo are you doing? Anything tasty??? :hun:

miriam - you can get all four of the Twilight Series online through Barnes & Noble for $54. also, check on amazon... I know they had a decent price on them as well. i'm sorry to hear of your friend. That has to be SO hard! As for DVD's - I LIVE by them. If you want a quick, yet effective one - then definately go with the 30 Day Shred. the workouts ar eonly 20 mins - but you WORK every second, AND EVERY MUSCLE! (even ones you didn't know exsisted!)

chiquita - Good for you joining WW. Let us know how it works out for you!

Aaron's girl - don't stress too much! Just revamp and get moving! I posted a #3 gain a few weeks ago too. :( I made a comittment to myself that I wouldn't use ANY freebies for this challenge, unless the hand of God himself kept me off my scale. So unfortuneately I let the team down that week. Good news is - I dropped the weight off plus a little by the next weigh in... and now I've dropped even more! I'd LOVE to see a Lower #180's tomorrow for the weigh in!!!!! :crossed:

Cakses  I would be SO mad to walk in and feel overwhelmed like that! No warning, just all those people! WOW! Stay strong girly!

Ok I'm off for now - I'm EXHAUSTED! I played football today at work - for an HOUR! But - although my team was the worst looking on paper - WE WON!!! :yay: But MAN are my legs feeling it! According to fitness pal, 1 hour of tough football burns 673 calories!!!! THAT'S INSANE!!! I'm taking it easy the rest of the day though FOR SURE!!! I'll still do 30 Day Shred tonight though, after DD goes to bed... I don't want to break my streak with Jillian! :lifter:

I am in such a funk this week.

I know what you mean. Both my kids play sports and sometimes it seems all I get done is practices and games. Any chance your two could ever end up on the same team? My DS and DD are 3 years apart also and just when they could be on the same soccer team DD switched to basketball!

And I'm in a funk this week too. A MAJOR funk. I've been sick and now I feel a little better, but I just can't muster up any desire to get back to working out. And worse, I've quit keeping my food journal. I had been writing down everything I eat since late July. I feel like I've fell off the wagon and now I'm just sitting on the ground, not caring enough to get back on. And I really don't know why. uuggghhh!

mtiger 10-30-2008 08:45 PM

There seems to be more than one of us feeling a little down and frustrated. My body needs to be slapped upside the head to get it back in line. I have done so well this year, but for the past month or so, things just suck. I am certainly going through a plateau period and need to figure out how to get past it. I'm not giving up, but am feeling super frustrated.

Good job to everyone losing. And keep working out girls. We all know how much it helps. I am going to update my exercise post right now.

WARNING!!!!! Watch out for all the Halloween goodies coming our way. Our classroom party tomorrow will be tough. I need to be smart.

Rain Dancer 10-30-2008 11:58 PM

Mtiger, my bod and head need a good slap, too. I have been struggling to stay on track and have been derailing, here and there. My loss rate has slowed and I am feeling a little discouraged and mad at myself. I am trying really hard to pull out, shape up and sty with the program. So, shoot me a whack and I'll shoot one back at you. :D

For me, I think it is just a little minor burn out. Normally, by about three months in, I have lost a little weight and am ready to abandon my "diet" and start eating myself into a coma and gaining it all, plus a bunch more. So, I am having to overcome memory and habit. And, dangit! I am determined to do so. :D

Today has been a good day. On track and having a little easier time staying there. I am still not able to exercise. If I try, I hurt. A lot. Heck, if I sleep on my side I hurt. A lot. Strained and inflamed chest wall muscles suck.

Crud... I have to run. Have a great night, everyone. :D

miriam101 10-31-2008 05:26 AM

Hi Everyone,

Still feeling very down and in shock. On the one hand - I hope I get out of it soon, and on the other, staying down must serve some purpose because I feel comfortable there....

Cathy - Twilight books - paying the postage for having them sent form the states just isn't worth it. I'll keep waiting here. <sigh>

Cakses - you're lucky your son's school is so supportive with his issues. I have 2 kids with some developmental issues and the school isn't very helpful, not are the health services. Really have to fight with them.

Isabella - what color did you do your hair? I have started to consider dying as I found a beautiful <NOT> patch of silver by one of my temples.. WTH - I'm too young, LOL

Eny - football! Now that sounds like fun! The only game I play at work is solitaire, hahaha.

Kelleigh - here's to shifting the funk!! Cheers!

Mindy - hope you did well at the party. I find that if I eat a good, solid mood before going into a temptation situation - I have far more chances in staying sensible.

Rain - after losing 67 lbs - wouldn't it be a shame to go to the coma? :) Keep on track - you're doing great!

Have a gopd one, ladies (and guy - where's our guy??)

ArmyWife02 10-31-2008 08:26 AM

Good luck with the weight watchers. I am a weight watcher as well. I love the flex plan. Its very flexible and you can eat anything you want.

Well I am feeling a little better. Yesterday was a good day. I drank all my water and got my veggies in. This morning I went and stopped for breakfast...not a good idea but I counted it all so I will go on. Thankfully my mom didn't buy any good candy to Halloween tonight. So that should help. I hope to get some activity in this weekend. Thanks to everyone for being so supportive with me. It really helps to know I have people rooting for me.

MonteCristo 10-31-2008 08:57 AM

Happy Friday!!

Is anybody else ready for a new month? I have been really haphazard with exercising this past month, and I am so ready to start out fresh. I know, I know, I could just as easily start "fresh" any day, but a new month just gives it a completely different feeling. I've got new goals and everything! I am going to walk 60 mins, do 25 pushups & 50 situps 6 days each week. November is going to be the month of ME! ;)

ArmyWife02 10-31-2008 09:15 AM

WTG on getting a fresh start Monte....Yes I am also ready for a new month. I plan to start back workouts each day on Monday. Will try to gt some kind of workout done today. We are supposed to be trading for the wii sometimes today. And my chore today is wak at least 1 mile during trick or treating....it'll be a longer than normal mile since i'll have both kids walking with me, but i have my pedometer and will make sure to get at least 2000 steps in for my mile. *fingers crossed*
We (me and DS) are waiting for hubby to wake up so we can do a few things. we need to go buy a new 30 day permit for our boat on the personal sale lot (it xpired yesterday) and i need gas soon fo the van....gas at the walmart in the neighboring town (5 miles from my house) is at $2.05/gal and that is before the gift card savings (walmart). yippee!!! i did the math, i could fill my tank up for under $35, and i'm used to spending about $55-60 to fill up. WOW!! loving it.
also loving the scale moving down. so am so siked!! well i need to see wht i can get donebfore hubby wakes up...nt sure i have 1 hr to try the get rippd 1000 workout from netflix. maybe just get the 1 mile (legs) from the 5 day slim down watp done. i can probably get 15 minutes in, and at least gt my 1 mile today (even if its not trick or treating, thinking about it - no sure my DS who's 2.5 y/o can walk a mile at a time yet).....we shall see.

retiredone 10-31-2008 11:23 AM

Hi all. I'm recovering from my late night. Did the cooking demo and by the time we got home and chilled out for a while it was quite late.

Here's one of the recipes. It's not low fat but it's a great introduction to tofu. It was so good I'm afraid I ate a bit too much.

TOFU WHIPPED TOPPING
12.3 oz. silken tofu, extra firm
3 T. honey
¼ c. cashews
1/8 t. salt
½ c. water
½ t. coconut extract or vanilla (absolutely use the coconut extract, yummy)
1 t. lemon juice (opt. with vanilla)

Blend all ingredients in blender until smooth. Chill before serving.

Nutritional analysis per ¼ cup: 99 calories, 5.7 g fat, 9.4 g carbohydrate, 4.4 g protein, 0 mg cholesterol, 1 g fiber, 49 mg calcium, 2.63 mg iron, 42 mg sodium.

My hair color is nothing exciting. No steaks, stripes, high or low lights. It's just as close to my natural color as I could find- a dark blond/light brown. As it wears/washes out it gets lighter and I become a blond. :lol : I got my hair cut earlier this week so it was time to administer the color. It's just a wash in color off the drug store shelf. I've been coloring it for about 7 or 8 years as soon as the gray started to show around the temples. My aunt never went gray. She died at 92 still a "blond". :D

On a sad note I got into the chips again last night. I bought my mom a bag and I helped her eat them. They tasted so good as I was hungry where I didn't have supper rushing about last night. I only had a Kashi bar, some of the tofu topping and a few other samples at the demo and by the time I got home I was ravenous. So at 10:30 pm I was chowing down on the chips...sigh... I actually didn't go much over my calories if I did at all but I could have eaten quite a bit more if I'd stopped and took a minute to get myself a bowl of soup that was in the frig. (Lining up for a slap in the head!)

Anyway, I slept in this morning until after 9 am and didn't get up until almost 10. So I skipped breakfast and just had some peppermint tea as my stomach needed the rest. Had a good, healthy bowl of vegetable chickpea soup for lunch. Tomorrow I weigh in so I hope I didn't sabotage my weight loss for this week. (Going to the back of the line for another slap in the head!)

Miriam, how sad to lose your friend. My thoughts are with you. It does take a while to feel yourself after something like this happening.

It seems as if everyone has their own stressors in life and I must say most of you are handling them well. I guess we just naturally turn to things that make us feel good at those times and for some of us that's food. But if you look back over your weight loss journey and can see how your behavior has changed as you handle stress that should make you feel much better about yourself. I know, for myself, I could drown any bad thoughts or bad things happening around me in a huge bag of chips, a bottle of soda pop, ice cream and anything else I wanted (you'll notice chocolate is not on this list). Things are changing and now if I do have those foods but they are more often than not resembling a normal or smaller size portion. I think that's great progress, how about you?
