QUESTION OF THE DAY!

What is your BIGGEST reason for wanting to lose weight?

I guess at my age I really want to lose weight to stay healthy. Right now I'm quite healthy, with no medical problems other than being overweight and I'd like it to stay that way. I know I don't want to be on meds for all kinds of unnecessary lifestyle diseases and I want to live to be at least 100 healthy years. But at the same time I really want to lose weight so I can buy and fit into nice clothing.

BTW, I weighed in yesterday and I've lost another pound. Good for me.

So I can look nice in clothes again and not feel self-conscious about the way I look. I miss being a hottie!

I know I'm supposed to say health reasons. Believe me, that's part of it. There is a lot of hypertension and diabetes in my family. Physical appearance is my #1 reason though.

Amany 10-26-2008 10:23 AM

I have a Bellydance Cardio Shimmy dvd that I'm not going to use if anyone is interested.
:belly: :belly:
I like the video, but there are lunges in the workout and my knees can't take it. I think it's a combination of heredity (both my parents have bad knees and I've felt arthritis coming along slowly for about 10 years) and being overweight for so long.

I'll take care of shipping. I just want to give it to someone who can get use out of it. Please pm me if interested.

I can so relate to many of you today.

Amany- The jogging thing. I started slow and worked my way up. The longest I have run is 2 miles and that was last weekend. Keep working at it and you too will increase distance. It certainly makes you feel good about yourself.

Eny- I too was up 2 pounds today. What the H***???? I hate when that happens.

Blue team- I think they are overdosing on too much Halloween candy.

QOTD- So many reasons. To look better, feel better, have nicer clothes. After 24 years it is time to get back to the real Mindy. I have always been a smaller, stylish person trapped in and unhappy, fat body. So it might take me 2 years to get to goal, but that fat has been firmly attached to this body for a long time. It will take time to get it off.

My biggest reason was my mom was diagnosed pre-diabetic and I was heavier than she was. The day I learned of this I scheduled an appointment for myself and started eating low calorie and exercising. Another big reason though is that my son started commenting on my weight now realizing that it hurt. He was at the age where he thought being honest was good, but not realizing that some things are better left unsaid. Now I'm proud to say that he comments on how great I look instead of how fat I am.

Two miles is a major accomplishment! I can't wait till I get there. I'm going to the track in about 90 minutes. I can't wait!
Thanks!

QOTD: Mostly for health reasons since I am adopted and don't have a family history of health problems. Also to be a good role model for my kids and others around me.

cakses 10-26-2008 01:32 PM

Ate horribly yesterday but managed to maintain 188. Don't know how but going with it! Still sick but I slept in this morning and I am feeling a little better.

 gals!

Sorry I haven't been around. I got a nasty virus on my computer and it had prevented me from getting on the internet....or doing anything else on my computer. My comp is still running slow from it. TOM was last week and it was HORRID so I'm using a freebie this week.

Considering that I'm 22, my reason is completely shallow. :p I've never had a date, hate going out and hate shopping for clothes. I would like to be a normal (or somewhat normal....I'm always going to be weird) college age girl.

modcat44 10-26-2008 03:06 PM

Blue Team--haha, we'll see who has the last laugh!!

QOTD--like Amany said, really. I am getting OLD, and I hate it! I especially hate being old and FAT! If I have to get old--I want to be HOT! At least, as hot as an old chick can be. I have a couple of celebs in my mind who are my age--Ashley Judd and Diane Lane. They don't really show their true age yet. I am trying to fight the good fight.......

And besides, all the cute, trendy clothes are in the smaller sizes! :D

Just checking in really quick. I am crazy busy and going nuts. :dizzy:

I hope everyone is doing well. And having a good week. I have been on and off track all week. Can't seem to get my **** together. But I am doing well yesterday and today. That is something... I guess. :o

QOTD: Simply, to not die. I was so heavy, so out of shape and getting close to being unable to function. I had no choice. And now that I am making progress, my reasons are many. Including being able to wear something besides tents and humongous pants and big, soft, lace up shoes. :D

Must run. Hugs, all. See you tomorrow for weigh in. (I have to admit... I'm a little scared, this week. :crossed:)

Ok I was sitting here with box of kleenex in hand, mounds of dirty ones on my desk and feeling awful and sick and watching the first episode of TBL from this season (I missed the first hour back then and forgot about it) and I thought WHAT IN THE **** AM I DOING SITTING ON MY BUTT?

I got up, forced myself to get into warm workout clothes and told myself I was going out on a run. I even bargained that if I was truly feeling crappy after a quarter of a mile I would just walk 2 miles to get some cardio in.

Well I *RAN* 2 miles! Man I feel better. I still feel sick and it was a lot harder than normal being that I have this dry cough going on, but I did it slowly in about 23 minutes and I now feel accomplished and better about myself. I was starting to freak out that this cold was going to knock me off of the wave I've been riding the last few weeks since I haven't been as active. I just have to remind myself that a lot about weight loss is mind over matter. I'm not on my deathbed - I just feel crappier than usual. And now even though I still feel sick and a bit more tired I can at least feel like I did something today for myself that's positive!

I am off to shower then take the family to DH's curling practice - that's right CURLING. DH, FIL and SIL thought it would be a funny thing to try and I am ready to pee my pants laughing at them fall on the ice. It actually looks like good exercise :) Maybe next season I will hire a babysitter for the kids and do it as well LOL.

Keep hanging in there everyone. I had a bad eating day yesterday and I'm leaving it where it belongs - in the PAST! Let's re-focus for this week and get our butts in gear. We have the holidays coming up! Who wants to be IN FRONT of the camera this year instead of the one taking pictures hiding behind it?!?!

Haley8203 10-26-2008 05:12 PM

Amany- awesome job on the jogging...ive kept at it too, my 5k is getting closer and closer yikes!

QUESTION OF THE DAY!

What is your BIGGEST reason for wanting to lose weight?
1. i want to be healthy for myself and my daughter
2. i want to inspire my daughter to want to exercise and eat right
3. i want to be able to wear non plus size clothes!

today is my first day as a vegan, so far so good!

miriam101 10-26-2008 05:48 PM

Hi all,

just a quick post here

I think i night have come down with the virus my husband and daughter had - ugh.came home early from work and went to sleep. not feeling great at all. maybe stay home from work tomorrow.

QOTD:
Biggest reason to lose weight?

Health! I HATED having gestational diabetes and when the dietitian told me my glucose and cholesterol were really high - that certainly helped!

Secondarily - I want to reaffirm that I can achieve goals I set for myself - FOR myself, as my ticker says - doing this for ME!

Amany 10-26-2008 08:36 PM

Why, why , why???

Ok, so I go to the track today and I couldn't run full laps anymore. What happened? Too much, too soon? Lack of water? I didn't have enough today. :o Could it be the fact that I had to use the restroom???

Oh well, I'll keep at it. This is the first time in a long while I've been excited about exercise; so I'll keep at it. I jogged half laps, and walked backwards for the other half. The speed-walked laps alternately.

I won't give up!! :)
