Everywhere we turn, we are bombarded with advertisements for the latest, greatest diet pill. Lose weight while you sleep! Burn fat effortlessly! Can this really be true? Is there some magic herb from the rainforest that will help us lose weight?

With consumers spending billions of dollars every year on these products, manufacturers do what they can to make us believe their products are the magic bullets we're looking for. You may not realize that they can pretty much say what they want and they don't have to prove it. That's right, the supplement industry is not regulated the way drugs are. Supplement manufacturers do not have to prove the claims on their labels unless they claim to cure cancer or other major disease. Furthermore, the capsules you swallow may not even contain what's on the label. Since they are unregulated, they can contain dangerous amounts or even none at all. Many diet supplements have been found to contain lead or other contaminants.

Before handing over your hard earned money, remind yourself of this -- If these products REALLY worked, we wouldn't hear about them from the manufacturers glossy ads and infomercials. We'd hear about them from our physicians, insurance companies, CNN, and the headlines of every major newspaper in the world.
