I should have been an attorney. Really. We went to see the new one yesterday. The meeting went well and then it came down to the discussion of her fee. How much do you think a good custody attorney makes these days? Did you say $15,000?  Excuse me, did you say FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS????? Oh, and don’t forget the $250 per hour for court room appearances on top of the flat rate. Damn! At least, she thought we should hold off for a while. She said this is going to be a long, drawn out process and we should stick with the do-nothing we have for now. She had some good advice for the time being but it’s too involved to go into at the moment.

I’m so glad today is Friday. Yesterday was a killer. I raced home from work, dropped the boys off and then DS and I headed downtown. It took forever to find a parking place close to the attorney’s office but we made it by 3:30. We spoke with her until 4:45 and I had to be back at work by 6:00 (all the way across town). Got on the expressway and sat in traffic forever. By 5:30, we had totally given up on getting DS home so we both went to school. Finally arrived at school at 6:10 and had to run in and get ready for Open House. I had several parents come in and we were tied up until almost 8:00 before I finally got out of the building.

DH has suggested a road trip for this weekend. Sounds good to me.

You will LOVE Julie and Julia!! It was hilarious and wonderful. Meryl Streep outdoes herself - she is brilliant!!

Enjoy that road trip!

My mom spent at least 10 grand for her attorney when she went through a divorce- BUT he was a good one and on top of everything! The cheap comes out expensive IMO- these just add on to the life lessons your DS will learn, and I am sure it helps him realize he’ll NEVER make this mistake again.

Wow! I’ll have to pass this info along to my brother who is considering law school–he’s a teacher who has been subbing b/c there are no jobs. I’m guessing this will help him make his decision.

I hope you are able to relax this weekend and enjoy the time w/DH. Talk to you soon.

Hope you did get a nice weekend to end things on a good note.

I’m heavy into lawyers fees right now too, and it’s true the ‘package’ and ‘retainer’ prices are quite astronomical. I’m still in sticker shock as well, and what makes it worse is these are serious, emotional, important life situations where you have to have a lawyer - and I feel that they kind of take advantage of that.
