Hey Ang! Welcome back, we missed you!! Good to hear your nephew is doing better. Hope he won't need surgery. Sometimes, recovery can be weird like it looks bad and then all of a sudden there's a dramatic improvement. Let's hope your nephew's case is like that.

Today's confession:

Breffix - 1 cup skim milk + 1 tbsp cocoa powder, instant oatmeal

Lunch - 1 pita bread, 1 tbsp hummus, lettuce
1 slice multigrain bread, 1 tbsp hummus, lettuce, tomato
1 slice chocolate cake

Snack - Apple

Dinner - felt heavy-headed for some reason, so opted out of cooking and we ordered Chinese. We got singapore noodles and tofu/veggies with rice. I ate maybe a cup of white rice + 1 cup of tofu/veggies + 1 cup of singapore noodles. Definitely went overboard a little. I ignored my full signs. I need to remember this next time I want to go back for more. I'm a little scared I'm going back to my overeating ways when all I want to do is maintain at this point!

Snack/Dessert - 2 cups of grapes

I was up to 157 this AM. I have no idea what's going on because I've been really good about my food, except for my chocolate cake slip - up. Plus, my inches haven't increased, in fact they're going down. I need to get back into exercise. This is what I needed to scare myself into working out again.

Exercise confession:

Walked 0.25 miles inside my house (raining like crazy), did 10 lunches, 10 high kicks and 10 squats. Will do more later tonight.

well my confession from yesterday is a disaster.

so i had a big breakfast, pancake, lamb kebab sandwhich etc..(thats not the disaster bit ) and then 3 hours later, i did p90x chest and back (1 hour) and then 16 minutes of ab ripper X. i really pushed myself hard on both workouts...and as soon as i was done, and i was doing the stretches, i got really tired and sleepy! the last stretch was a childs pose, where you just lay in a ball type with your arms stretched infront of you ...and i got REALLY sleepy all of a sudden - i had no energy to get up, and laid down on my yoga mat and took a nap! i didnt even have the energy to lie on my bed, which was RIGHT NEXT to me!

i was semi napping, wasnt completely out, was still aware. i think after 10 minutes, i then dragged myself up and laid on my bed. im guessing my blood sugar must have been low.

and then i was a ravenous hungry monster! and scoffed down dinner. and then ate 4 packets of crisps!! i couldnt stop myself lol. which amounted to like 520 calories!

so i went over my calorie intake by like 1000!

i remembered what jillian said, that after a binge, just make it up, by working out harder.. and that for eg, if your tire got punctured, you wouldnt go and slash the other 3 tires, you would fix the tire, and keep on driving. so dont just say, oh i blew my diet today, so forget it, and let me just scoff myself even further... so then after a couple of hours, i then hit my exercise bike and rode it for 1 hour to burn 600 calories. to make up for the calorie binge! no harm done! well i did see a gain today on the scale, basically the weight i lost yesterday i gained it again. but hoping its just a glitch and i can lose it again. so i'm still at 159.8 - yesterday i saw 158.7 - hope to see that again by the end of the week!

--

today's confession, back on track!

exercise wise - did 1 hour of plyometrics (p90x) boy does that work up a sweat!!

total calories eaten today amounts to 1534 calories. (i even managed to work in a treat today, haagen daaz strawberry cheesecake - 60g - 150 calorie )

calorie deficient = -1131 ~ 0.32 lb loss.

i was thinking about having a packet of crisps today. but i better not! so chewing gum instead lol. and will watch the biggest loser to distract myself. or greys anatomy havent decided yet. hehe

cheese and onion crisps are my kryptonite! as are american doritos. we have doritos here, but not the same taste. and i love american crinkle cut chips from lays i think. we dont get them here either. if left to my own devices i could eat a whole big gigantic bag of potato chips!

Echo, I feel you on the potato chips! I can usually resist, but if there are barbeque chips in the house, I'm done.

Today's confessions:

B: 1 cup special k red berries with 1 cup plain soy milk

L: 1 piece whole wheat toast with 1 tsp raspberry jam, 2 strips morningstar bacon, 1 apple, 10 baby carrots,

S: 1 100 cal pack of raisons

D: 1 cup broccoli with 1 oz. cheddar cheese, 1/2 baked potato, 4 soy nuggets with 1 tbsp ketchup

E: 10 min elliptical, 10 min stationary bike, 25 min treadmill

Agh.... yesterday was a trainwreck! I weighed myself in the morning and I saw a 1.5pound loss frm last week... well you can understand my excitment.. right? well I have no idea what happened.. I thought I was doing okay most of the day but yea allowing my self lil something here and there... turned into a huge OPPS ... went way over what I had planned on eating for calories yesterday and even though that was still only 35cal. over my highest allotment ... something switched off in me that hasn't in months n I just kept eating! A combo of discouragment, self sabotage and approaching tom... did me in! This morning I feel icky and tired and just plain miserable not to mention the added disgust after seeing a 4 pound jump on the scale... I know that is impossible and more then likely 99% water... but aghhh!
So I have to be diligent today and for the rest of the week to go low cal. and easy on the carbs.
Echo.. I have been meaning to ask you... when you do your calculations for the day.. cal. eaten, exercise and deficit, how do you know your ~ cal. burn? and get your whole equation? That may seem like a real duhh question.. lol it does even to me.. i know i should prob. now this but am feeling a road block in my brain when it comes to that ... lol
Well.. off to plan my day... then start it... be back this afternoon.. have a good day ladies!

Confession: I will go without eating instead of surrendering to buying fast food. That is an even worse decision.

Confession: I lie to myself about my salt intake.

Confession: Sometimes, when I haven't exercised all day, I will go out the front door and run all the way up and all the way back down my block and log a full 5 minutes, no matter if it took 4 minutes or 7.

Confession: When ordering delivery for lunch at work, I type everything that looks good on the menu into my nutrition tracker on sparkpeople.com first and then order the healthiest thing because I don't quite trust my own experience, yet.

Emily, mmm bbq chips!! those are yummy too!

i like your confessions yoovie!

Angela, that's a really good question! i'm glad you asked

Here is how i do my calculations
-----

i have a pedometer, that i attach to my waist and wear throughout the day, and it monitors my movements, and gives me estimate of general calories burned, its not 100% accurate, but does the job fine for me personally.

plus i like looking at it at random times of the day and i sometimes will jog randomly on the spot, just to bump up the calorie number haha. on a lazy day i can have anywhere from only 200 calories burned, to a very busy day going up to 600 calories. it all depends, on how active i was generally that day. its not really needed, as main calorie burn calculations is really from your exercise.

so thats my general calories burned, just walking around normally. excluding the specific exercise.

now to calculate the calories i burn through exercise, i look them up using any of the following websites. i input my weight, and i input the number of minutes i had done the exercise for.

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

or

http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/c...ration=10&id=2

okay so this is how i calculate my calorie deficient.

for eg a typical ideal day would be

total calories eaten = 1400
total calories burned = exercise + general pedometer reading = 600

my personal BMR is 1800. you can find out your BMR using the following website. this is the number of calories you burn, at REST. if you just sat on the couch all day. this is the number of calories your body needs to function.

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

so calorie deficient is calculated as follows:

my BMR = 1800
calories eaten 1400
calories burned = 600 or if you dont have a pedometer, not a problem, just input the calories you burned through your exercise from the day. for eg, 600 calories would be like 60 minutes on a bike, going at a moderate to fast pace.

BMR (1800) - 1400 (calories eaten) = 400 (calorie deficient from food)

then total calorie deficient calculated (including calories burned calculated as follows):

400 (calorie deficient from food) + 600 (calorie burned) = 1000 (total calorie deficient)

then to calculate predicted lbs lost.

1000(total calorie deficent) / 3500 (calories in 1lb) (ie total calorie deficient including food deficient and calories burned divided by 3500)= ~0.29 lbs loss (for 1 day). over the week it would amount to a loss of 2lb.

but even though mathematically you might have calculated a 2lb loss, you might lose more or less, if you weigh more than what you calculated - this will likely be due to water retention, if your muscles are sore, or you had more salt intake, or high carbs, which have more water in them. or a slight miscalculation from food intake calories, or calories burned. but you will have a rough ball park idea of what to expect after a week.

for me personally if i do this on a daily basis. it keeps me focused, and if i want any indulgent snacks, i just work it in my calorie allowance. and also stops me from binging. i dont think, oh i just had a chocolate, screw it i'm gonna go on a binge rampage, because i know i can make it up the next day, or in the evening. its all about total calorie deficient over a period of a WHOLE week. so everyday does count. but if i do have a binge, then i work out how many minutes i will have to exercise to burn off the excess calories! hehe

i hope that helps!

Echo, thanks for the break down of the calorie deficit. I'm glad Angela asked - it's nice to see!

Cape Breton, congrats on joining the gym!

I did a lot of shopping today and bought two new pairs of jeans in a smaller size. I've been wearing 26s for the last year and a half and today I fit into every 24 I tried on at two different stores - woo!

My confessions for today:

B: 1 cup special k red berries with 1 cup plain soy milk

L: 6 inch veggie delight on wheat with oil and vinegar and american cheese from Subway, 1/2 bag of Lays bbq chips (I spilt them with the hubby so I didn't have to feel as guilty!)

S: tall skinny vanilla latte from Starbucks

D: 1 cup black beans, 2/3 cup lime rice, 2/3 cup corn

E: I'm going to the gym in about 30 minutes. I'll edit the post to update what I did.
ETA: I did 45 minutes on the treadmill and free weights - pretty good for a Friday night!

my confession today.

didnt do any exercise, because i felt tired and sore from the past two days of doing p90x. so took a rest day today.

so had to be careful with my food intake.

after my big lunch, i only had about 300 calories left for dinner, and i wanted to stay within 1200-1300 range today, so i had fruit and fibre cereal for dinner which came to just over 300 calories and then i had only 1 packet of crisps (25g of crisps - cheese and onion flavour - 131 calories). and i made sure i sat and ate the crisps without watching tv, so i could savour each potato chip! lol hehe whenever i eat something that i really like, i have this song running in my head, yummy yummy in my tummy lol i think im delerious hahahaha

100g salad 25 cal
38 g homemade chocolate chip cookie 173 cal
half cup semi sk milk 75 cal
gum 5 cal
benefibre 14 cal

total calories lunch >> 683 calories

dinner

64 g fruit and fibre 237 cal
half cup milk 82 cal
1 packet crisps 131 cal

total calores dinner >> 450 calories

total calories eaten today = 1340 calories

calories eaten = 1340
calories burned = 255
calorie deficient = 715
predicted loss = -0.20 lbs loss
